I use a a80 115 and so far,
These things were replaced.
DVD writer
Screen
power adaptor
And I have upgraded it to its max 2 Gb memory.
So far it still works. But I dont really like the plasticly feel of the new satellites. -
I have had no issues with my notebook A135-s4487. It has been upgraded to the max with a T7600g, 5350 wireless n and wimax, 4GB of ram and win 7 pro. Sometime I will get a SSD.
-
DefiantWing:
Wow to get ssd for it specially, that is what I call dedication.
hehehe dont worry I spend enough on this old laptop, I think I am doing it wrong. I should get a new one and get rid of this one. But the new toshibas are so cheap looking and bulky. -
Yeah it is a lot of money to be putting in a old laptop, but I have to Agee with you on the newer laptops are cheap feeling. I even went out of my way and bought another a135-s4487 for my brother and he loves it. It is so hard to find that specific model with all it's features.
-
Damn you went out of the way just to buy your bro another one identical. That is crazy. That is obsession.
I do need a better laptop to use it with Starcraft 2, so with this piece of old machine it wont work.
So somehow I need to start using another laptop. I do love the Toshiba, but the newer products just need to hire the Dell designer or any other designer that designs a case with style. I mean it might work and you still have to stare at it most of the time when you need to use a laptop.
Also I might get a full hd laptop this time to cover for the years not using any other laptop since 2004-2005 I think.
It has been 5 yrs with the same. -
Satellite R630 owner here (i3,2GB Ram, 320GB HDD)
Never owned a Toshiba before but I love this one, great battery life, light weight and solid build quality. Only downside is the amount of Toshiba software that comes with it, I've un installed it all, with the exception of the Eco Utility, thats quite a handy app. -
It looks bulky and plastic feel.

Do you have a big screen?
I do love the older models. But can you sum up the good points of this newer types of satellites so far.
Does the black plastic look cheap to you? And does the battery last long?
How about the screen and the keyboard?
I have seen them in the store and to me they look heavy and bulky and cheap plastic. -

I will add to this post.
I just bought an Toshiba A665-S6095. Before this purchase I bought an HP something or other.
I started on my journey to get a laptop on a low budget. I had to replace my desktop due to space issues and was really not looking forward to replacing my desktop with a laptop.
The HP I bought was $898 and seemed to fit the bill for what I needed. It had aluminum construction and had a decent recent video card with a AMD 3 core CPU. It also sported 2 320GB 7200RPM drives. Got it home and next day video card fried. This left a bad taste in my mouth about HP.
I live in the country. The delivery people like to leave anything I order outside under the mailbox. We are new in this area and know no one. So buying a $898 machine and having it sit out by the box is to much of an investment to take that risk with.
I had to go local on a hunt (since we live in nowhere land, not much choice here).
I found this machine at Office Depot. I was very concerned about being able to play LOTRO on my laptop. This machine was the only machine they had that caught my eye. This machine was $849. The salesman I had was luckily a WoW player and understood what I needed. He told me that Intel graphics get a bad rap and that the newer stuff really is not that bad. He told me it should have no issue playing LOTRO. I pulled the trigger.
The Toshiba feels solid. I was worried about the plastic, but the more I use it the more I like it. I can leave the machine on and grab one side of the screen to move it (up/down) and there is no worrisome flex in the screen.
The keyboard on this machine is just fantastic! I like the layout very much and don't really see anything that Toshiba could of done better. It has the number pad (which is great) and is also back lit for those whom need that (I turned mine off). No flex or "smacking" type sounds from the keyboard some laptops have issues with.
The touch pad is decent. I don't really like the scroll on the right that much (need to turn it off). The gesture features work rather well. The left/right buttons feel "clumsy" (if you will) with a feeling of being loose or sloppy (hard to explain).
The sound quality is amazing! The HP had some "beats" crap and sounded horrible and over processed to me. This little thing has no sub and seems much more accurate and natural. The Harman Kardon speakers are amazing.
This unit came with a 500GB 5400RPM drive. It feels slow at times (will upgrade it). Toshiba has this little shock protection utility to to park the heads in case of shock. I had an issue in LOTRO with the sound "machine gunning" and I traced it back to that utility. That utility is a tad sensitive but also could save the drive if something bad happened (like a drop or whatnot).
The i5 is a great CPU, no issues here! This CPU runs LOTRO without issue and gets a tad warm (71 is my high), seems to idle right around 40. I am going to get a cooling pad in the near future. The temps do seem on par with what others get in other machines when gaming so I have no real worries.
The 4GB seems to be pretty darn fast. Running some small benchmarks gives some nice results. What else can I say about memory? It works...LOL
The Intel graphics work surprisingly well. LOTRO runs really well at close to max settings. I also tested Everquest 2 with the same results. I don't understand the Intel graphic haters, but they have done a wonderful job with the newer offerings.
The screen seems good. I was worried about the resolution coming from a 22 inch monitor running at 1680x1050. But it seems to work well and the color is great (I had to tweak a bit to get to my liking). I can watch 1080P video full screen with only 18-20% CPU usage.
The connections on this machine are great. 3 USB 2.0 with an E-Sata that also supports USB, HDMI, Ethernet and VGA along with a memory card reader.
That about sums it up! Let me know if you have any questions.
Very happy with my purchase! -
I love my shiny, new Qosmio. Even with only an i5 processor the freaking thing is literally blazing through all the games I can throw at it. I give Toshiba a lot of credit for putting the GeForce 460m in this beast. I will say that with the shiny, black finish it is challenging to keep this beautiful monster clean, though. lol
-
Realistically though, it is better to clean your laptop regularly. Most keyboards are dirtier than toilet seats....
Has anyone complimented you on the size of your laptop? lol -
I actually do, by the way, almost constantly, because I want to keep it in absolutely pristine condition in case I want to resell it and upgrade in a year since these Qosmios tend to somewhat keep their value. Also, the thing is so beautiful looking, that even one or two fingerprints takes away from it. Speaking of cleaning, I am finding that cleaning the chicket keyboard AND the flush media control buttons on the left are very hard. Even when I power off, sometimes I accidentally power the thing back on as I am cleaning.
Oh and as far as compliments, most people compliment the looks and aesthetics of the laptop, but are like, "Dude, that is way too big and heavy!" lol Gamers appreciate it, though. -
i just got a L655 with a core i3 from best buy, the 450 deal, so far, so good, I like it
-
No. had multiple bad experience's. Will buy something different this time around!
-
I just got a Toshiba Portege r705-P41 and I totally have a crush on it!
The Norton Installer that kept crashing my precious until I got wise, not so much. -
Hell ya.
I've had my x505-898 for one month. HELL YA!!!!!
-
Loved everything about new Qosmio x505-q8104 i just received from best buy until found a dead pixel. Returning.
-
My P105-S9722 served me well since 11/2006 with nary a problem (even counting the extreme effort it took me to transform over to W7 x64 ULT with the correct drivers) but I do believe it is time to move up to a Sager/Clevo now and put this unit "out to pasture". Goodbye 'Go 7900 GS' -- hello 'GTX 485M'! Plus I do a lot more ACAD work now and truly need a better processor to handle the workflow. I have nothing but good things to say about my Toshiba experience.
-
I like it. Purchased sometime around 2001.
It's the Satellite 2805-S603.
Pentium III 1Ghz | 384 MB RAM | NVidia GeForce2Go 16 MB | 30GB 7200RPM HD | 15" display.
Shipped with Windows ME, upgraded to 2000 Pro & then to XP Pro.
Still runs great.
No complaints. -
-
But alas, ten years is a mighty long time in computer years. I have been eying Clevos/Sagers for the past several years and currently I'm awaiting delivery of the system in my signature. -
I've got no complaints regarding my Toshiba Dynabook AX54/F. Have had this for about 2 years now. Actually it was sold to me by a friend, whose wife picked it up from Japan as her own. He then sold it to me for a relatively good low price so that they could add some bucks to their business. That's how I got this.
This is actually an A300 series that came with a Celeron 550 (2.0Ghz, 1MB L2, 533Mhz). This is literally a base model. Even the mobo says Intel Base Board on Everest, Speccy, etc. I've since upgraded it into a T8100. I was a bit worried about the bios. It being a Japanese model. But to my surprise, it supports some features such as IDA, Disable-bit and others.
I've also upgraded the hdd to a Samsung 640GB (5400rpm) I was able to get at a good price.
The only down side I've noticed is that it uses the GL960 board. Which obviously means I'm capped at 2GB of ram.
I guess a good sides would be that it comes with Harmon/Kardon speakers, which I like and it has potential for a DIY Vidock.

I'm a new Toshiba owner. I've purchased the Satellite A665 3DV and the Qosmio X505-8100X within the last three months. The Satellite was my first purchase and I fell in love with it so I gave my son my Alienware M17XR1 and purchased the Qosmio. I love it. Both computers are wonderful but I also purchased a square trade warranty, three years, for both of them. My only complaint on the Qosmio is the size of the hard drive but I'm rectifying that on Monday when my 750g hard drive arrives. Both only have 4 gigs of ram which I will eventually upgrade to 8 gigs but they both play games wonderfully which is why I got them. Downsides to any computer that isn't a high end is the amount of bloatware that you have to delete and stickers all over them. Computer companies need to learn to put stickers on the bottom of laptops and not on the palm rests.
-
had it for almost 1 year, and NOT A PROBLEM with it, I'm satisfied with it
-
My Favorite laptop is Toshiba. I have L500-247, which I bought last year. It is compact and Windows 7.
-
First thing i always do is to install my WXP 32-bit system without all these junk programms that manufacturors are giving us.
-
Just purchase the Toshiba Satellite A660-042 for a decent price $990.
With the limited reviews I got online it seems to be a decent laptop so I am giving it a try.
Had the Alienware m14x for about a week and return to dell (mainly their poor customer support). But I did find the M14x to be a bit on the heavy side(I guess that's normal for gaming laptop). But I don't really like the alien logo on it since I do bring it to work and having an alien head doesn't seem too really good. Also the keyboard and the touchpad lighting can get annoying.
I am hopping the A660 can perform on par with the M14x in terms of gaming. The 3Dv really got me hook. I was deciding between this or the ASUS G53JW-A1.
A660 won my heard coz of the cheap price, is a lot smaller than ASUS G53JW-A1 and battery life last longer. -
Toshiba R700-184 i5 560M, 4Gb RAM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120Gb, W7 Pro 64-Bit and all bloatware removed.
excellent system, lightning fast and very lightweight.only lacking in gaming graphics but i tend to only use it for old skool RTS' etc, my ps3 satisfys my 3d gaming needs -
Just got a chance to try my Toshiba Satellite A660-042
Setup seems really fast, lighting on the screen seems good. Keyboard feels a bit cheap (really really cheap plastic) but then again I am using a gaming keyboard on my desktop so that could be me being bias(too much to rubber keyboard =D). Also the light on the keyboard seems really weird. Not sure what cause it but with the lighting on it makes the keyboard look really cheap when compare to alienware's keyboard lighting.
Haven't try much since it is late. Going to bring it work tmr and clean up all the crap software that was installed. -
Hey guys,
i have Toshiba Qosmio X505. The left fan (CPU) is making a loud bumpy noise for a few days now. It is especially evident if the fan riles up when im doing heavy stuff. Has anyone encountered this problem? It's really annoying.
Any suggestions on what it might be and what to do with it? thanks! by the way, i've tried the vacuum cleaning stated above, it didn't work. -
toshiba do good notebooks but too but all are plastic
-
Hello, i own a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q893. The left fan (CPU) is making a rattling noise that's becoming rather annoying. I think the fan blade is hitting something inside the laptop though im not sure since i haven't tampered/opened anything and i have also never mishandled/dropped the laptop.
Yes, i tried flushing it with compressed air and used a mini vacuum that has an extended air-tube already just in case, but the sound is still there. Also, It gets a little louder as the fan spins faster.
The temperatures however of the CPU (and GPU) are unchanged. Still maintaining cool temps from when it was bought (averaging from 45' to 48'). The laptop is only 7 months old, i wouldn't want to send it to the repair center with a 1-2 week repair time just to have it fixed.
Please help. -
Brand New, R835-P56x. I am still unable to have this problem fixed yet. Battery loses its charge roughly 10% overnight when it is completely turned off (shutdown). It is not just annoying but rather diminishing its portability, rendering it useless. I can live with the other issues, but not the lost of the battery capacity when not using. I have everything turned off and disable; yes, almost everything, including paralyzing mode (no wifi). sleep, wakeups, vmm, usb legacy, you name it, and it still eats up the battery power when it is completely off; i dont use sleep mode or hypernation.
-
I liked it for about an hour...then it started popping up error messages, something about the cooling system having a defect, and stating that I should return the machine for repair.
This is a brand-new Satellite A665-S5199X. I'm not angry, just disappointed. Either it's a real hardware defect out of the box - which is a deal-breaker - or it's a result of poorly-written software - also not good. I can't tell which it is, but I now have reason to suspect that the cooling system is indeed defective. So back it goes.
Sadly, it looks like I'm going to have to get a Dell or HP, as I'm shopping at Costco.
eta:
Took the Toshiba back and got a Samsung Series 3. Now plotting ways to add USB 3.0 support, as it's the only thing missing from the Series 3. -
I've been bought a Satellite C660 and it's one of the worst laptops I've ever set my eyes upon let alone actually owned.
I can't be too ungrateful though, it's replacing a machine that actually no longer works so atleast I have a computer, compltely useless for gaming which is a massive shame. (though I realize they aren't designed with games in mind)
It even has trouble with titles that are 7 years old, incredible!
So yeah, horrible mouse buttons, squished and cramped keyboard, gets hot for no reason, horrible cheap plastic case, only 2 usb ports, vga and ethernet port for connectivity and awful sounding speakers. -
I posted this as a separate thread about my new R835-P56x but decided it also should be in this thread also because this to me makes it equal to the Samsung series 9 & MBA except for the lighted keyboard. I have had both & returned them.
I installed a Intel 6230 network card' replaced the hard drive with Samsung 128gb ssd and increased the ram to 8gb. I have 90gb empty space on the ssd which is plenty for me. Boy do I have a fast light machine now with bluetooth and good wifi range. Awakes from sleep in 5 secs. Full start up in 20 secs. All for $1100 which is a lot less than the Samsung series 9 or even the MBA. I am a happy camper jim_joh -
I would recommend cleaning out your vents/fans if it is over heating [this is a problem with all laptops regardless of manufacturer].
Good luck -
I have an L305 that I bought almost exactly 3 years ago. Just fixed the charge port. It seems like every Toshiba I've owned has had this problem. Due to the fact that my laptop has lasted so long with minimal help, I would say I am a Toshiba lifer.
-
Cramped keyboard aside, it's a pretty tidy machine.
I've given it a quick blow out with some compressed air (as you suggested) and the temps have certainly lowered so yeah, better! I'll be honest and admit that I don't love the thing (I'm a bit of a computer geek, though) but it's definitely not a bad computer and I'd definitely recommend it to either students on a budget or people who want a sizeable machine for basic tasks as it performs flawlessley otherwise. -
I brought my Toshiba tecra M9 PTM90E laptop on ebay.co.uk. After having different branded laptops including acer I went back to toshiba. My First two Toshiba Laptops was a satellite (windows 98) and a Tecra (windows 2000). My laptop came with a windows vista business 32 bit product recovery disk. I would like to to a clean installation of windows 7 ultimate 32 bit I am worried that I could mess up the boot screen and the bios with a hard drive cleaning programme (dban)to remove my current version of windows (vista business 32 bit). any advice would very helpful. I highly rate toshiba over any other brand. It is just a shame that toshiba does give you a windows 7 product recovery disk as well for either vista or xp

My Toshiba Qosmio x505-q870, is by far the worst laptop i have EVER bought. and the last Toshiba i ever will buy...
Paid nearly $1700 for this desktop replacement to be used specifically for my classes in Game and simulation programming/design, and its a piece of crap!
At first it worked great, i was very happy with it, but after maybe 5 or 6 months the problems started, ie graphics card crashing, computer not recognizing USB devices, computer not connecting to the internet, and also the (x86) program files folder not being able to be opened due to it being "corrupted and unreadable" even though i always have virus/malware/trojan protection installed on the computer, along with file scanner to detect this stuff.
i called toshiba earlier this year to have the motherboard replaced before the warranty expired, because the issues i was having could be directly related to the motherboard. but when they were in possession of it they did absolutely nothing to fix the problem because "they couldn't get the computer to duplicate the issues that i was having".
i called again today because i am having the same issues AGAIN, and toshiba will do nothing about it to fix the computer because it is out of warranty. So now i have to send my computer to a authorized repair place to have the problem fixed and pay however much it is to fix the issue. -
from years 2008-2011, I had Toshiba Satego X200-21D. Absolutely great piece. Not a single problem with this machine for the whole 4 years. Yesterday I sold it, and ordered new M17xR3 Alienware. I hope it will be in the same condition as this Toshiba.
-
my toshibas an old pos but it still runs real great up to this day!
Its a Toshiba Satellite A210-MS0 with 1GB RAM, TK-55 Turion CPU (overclocked and prime stable @ 2.3 GHz 1.1v) and ATI X1200 IGP.
Stock clocks for this cpu are 1.8 GHz
At 2.3 GHz max recorded temp on load by CoreTemp was 65 Celsius (Prime95)
CPU heatsink base had to be lapped, and thermal paste replaced with Arctic Cooling MX-3 to achieve this overclock..
Below is the highest validated CPU-Z screen I could get of my TK-55 cpu overclocked to 2.425 GHz (unstable)!!
-
I like it.
In may 2010 i bought an x505-q860. I like it but sometimes is very difficult to carry around...
After a year and a half I'm looking for a new gaming laptop, but is very difficult to decide between asus, msi and toshiba...
The perfect laptop for my needs would be:
- Style like the qosmio f755
- 15.6", normal 2D, 1600x900
- i7 and at least a gt555m 1gb ddr5
- ledback lit keyboard
Do exist something like that?
Do someone know if toshiba is going to come out with new qosmio models similars to the f755 without 3D? -
I have the same problems on my x505-q860:
- Somethimes the graphic card crash. Lukly never when im playing... only when i surfing the net (??)
- The left USB doesnt work... so i have to use the other 2 usb
- The wired internet doesnt work... so i have to use alwasy the wi-fi
I hope i can fix this issues with a fresh W7 install before sell it. -
I bought a Satellite L745-S4210 a couple of weeks ago and so far, it's pretty nice. The Intel HD 3000 graphics handle anything I throw at it and the system runs rather cool while doing it. The screen is also quite nice as well. The only things I don't really like about this computer are the speakers and the battery life. Other than those things, it was a pretty good purchase for the $450 that I paid for it.
-
New member here and I've had the Qosmio X505-Q892 since last November.
Not a single problem with it.
I've owned four Toshiba computers in my lifetime and my parents are still using two at the moment. All have been fantastic. -
I have a Satellite A660 and overall I am satisfied with it, but there are some issues.
Pros: Sturdy, well-built, no keyboard flex, have barely had any problems, easy to self-upgrade, etc.
Cons: Bad screen (not specific to Toshiba), and unavailable with bonuses like TV card, fingerprint sensor, etc.
So basically, I like it because it's hardy and works well but I hate the mediocre 720p screen and I'm not big on how this laptop is available with limited upgrades just because of where I live. Oh well... -
I like it.
I bought my Toshiba P750 about 3 months ago after my Toshiba A505 broke due to the screen hinges breaking off causing it to break the LCD backlight.
So far my P750 runs well and i havent had a single problem with it. The build quality is truly better than any other laptop i owned in the past especially the keyboard area. But it does heats up when playing games and i have to clean the vents every month -
Regardless of the make or model of Toshiba laptop you possess, good luck getting any action out of Toshiba customer no-service. After a solid month of
dealing with them I have concluded that they have no intention of honoring their agreement, made that the time I purchased my laptop to repair or replace my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L675 D,should it be defective. My screen started blinking and flashing less than one month after I purchased it. After following Toshiba's instructions to do various things to address the situation, I started getting hard drive failure warnings, followed by the dreaded blue screen. At that point, I dutifully shipped off my laptop to the repair depot. After ten days turned into 3 weeks, I called to see why my machine was still in limbo. I was informed that they had put it on hold for parts. My subsequent phone inquiry elicited an excuse that a parts hold extends their repair time frame by 7 to 10 days. The rep was actually counting off the days on his fingers. When he got to 10 and realized that his excuse no longer held water, he apologized and said that he would e-mail someone to find out what the delay was, and he would "call me back immediately." Ten days later, after nothing had changed, I called again.
I was informed by a supervisor that my laptop was put on a new hold on December the 5th, and that there was no other remedy available to me.
Basically, if I didn't like it, tough. there's no-one else to talk to, and if I complain to Toshiba corporate or post on a board like this one, they could care less. I told him that he had lost a customer, and he basically kissed me off and hung up. Please take this under consideration when you consider purchasing any Toshiba product. I am going to.
Do you like your Toshiba?
