They need to unlock the bios for some overclocking or just user friend. Their site sucks for updates their motto, here are the drivers to turn it on, anything else its up to you to find. I got a ton more.

Tecra M2 1.7PM/14S/1G/60G54/DVDM/W/B ...just to follow the rule of the first poster.
And I like it a lot. (It is not really mine and belongs to the company I work for but there is not much I cannot do with it.)

I hate my girlfriend's toshiba.
-
welp i got mah Toshiba A215 for $598 at walmart..
this was a steal for the specs under the hood.
Windows Vista Home Basic
AMD Athlon X2 duel core
2gb ram
120gb HDD
15.4" true bright screen
Realtek HD speakers.
IM vervy happy with this laptop.
i love how the screen hinge is place on the back of the laptop instead of on top like the Apple laptops.
i have no complaints about this laptop and i am very satisfied with it. -
my dad gave me his toshiba notebook and for the year that i have been using it, it's ok. but i do have some problems with its battery life. it's too short! and it heats up easily. but overall, it's ok.
-
With the motherboard on my four-year-old M45-S169 having just failed and being faced with having to buy a new laptop (not worth repairing, saus Toshiba technocian), how would you "like" your toshiba?? Obviously, I never want to see another Toshiba.

I still own a Satellite 5205 that I bought new in 2003.
This laptop is still currently in use today and has been in service nearly every single day of the past fours years without much issue. The only recurring problem it has that boils down (literally) to a design issue is that the laptop goes through an optical drive in the fixed bay about every year due to the nVidia GeForce GPU, which runs quite hot and is located directly under the fixed bay optical drive, slowly baking said drive to death. When the drive dies, I just score a replacement off eBay. NBD IOW.
Now while I've moved over and up to the ThinkPad camp, I still keep my 5205 running close by for watching flicks and listening to tunes as its Harman Kardon audio with built-in subwoofer still sounds way better than most every other laptop's speakers and it's a testament to the good ol' days when Toshiba really went all out to build a very stylish, compact high-end laptop. -
Bought the A200-1J0 just 4 days ago. I think they only sell these (1J0)models here in Israel and in Eastern europe. I have Core 2 Duo 2.2 ghz, 2gb ddr2 667 mhz RAM, ATI mobility 2600 HD, 250 gb HD, and the great Harman-Kardon speakers. I also tested it during a 2 hour long bus drive, and while it "jumped' quite a few times on my knees never did it malfunction or overheated, even when running a movie from a DVD inside.
I'm 95% satisfied as of now. -
For four weeks now I've had:
Toshiba Satellite Core Duo Notebook P205-S6267
Intel Core Duo Processor T2350: 1.86GHz, 2MB L2, 533MHz FSB
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
Memory Size: 2048MB
Memory Speed: PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM
Display Size: 17.0” widescreen WXGA+ with TruBrite Technology
Display Resolution: 1440×900, Native support for 720p content
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Graphics Memory: 8MB-256MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
Hard Drive: 120GB 5400rpm
DVD-SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash drive supporting up to 11 formats
120GB (5400RPM); Serial ATA hard disk drive; 9.5mm height; user removable
It is a little dated obviously, but I found what I consider to be a great deal on it. I'm very happy so far. Battery life leaves quite a bit to be desired, but I'm usually at home or office within a few feet of an AC outlet so no big deal yet. Anything else that has given me trouble I attribute to Vista. This is my first laptop, and I love it so much I almost never use my desktop anymore! -
I'm somewhat happy with my recent purchase of a Qosmio F40.
Intel DC T7400 2.2ghz
2gb Ram
1gb Turbo Memory
dual 160GB 5400rpm drives
Vista
Pros: Looks great, feels great, and the customizability (?) was what drew me to this model. Fingerprint scanner is nifty, extra side control buttons for web navigation, media player controls, volume control... are all kind of nice. Speakers are the best laptops speakers I've ever heard (that's not saying much though, they still sound like laptop speakers). Heat and noise are pretty minimal for such a high performance machine. Screen looks pretty.... bright, good viewing area. I would prefer a more 'square' screen.... this is elongated more than I would like (looks good on movies, but can't fit as much content on the page for, say, web browsing)
Cons: WINDOWS VISTA. I feel like I have reverted to windows 95. Way too many security checks, incompatibilty, instability.... "Not Responding" for NO reason at all.
Also, I want my brand new computer to operate at its maximum potential when I receive it. If I want to bog it down with loads of software, addons, and junk then that's my choice. My new Dual Core 2.2ghz machine sometimes performs worse than my old single processor 2.0 ghz did, because on my old machine I was able to only run the programs I wanted (and on win XP too). Just because a system is capable of running all this crap (Vista, Touchpad options, webcam utilities, Toshiba Help Center, McAffee over-active productivity killer, download this, try that, would you like some frys with that?)...... doesn't mean that you should shove all of it on there, Toshiba!
I have spent hours struggling through Vista trying to get this machine to operate at its full potential by removing this extra crap. Oh, and of all the useless crap that Toshiba thought I needed, they couldn't just go ahead and put Adobe, or Flash, or RealPlayer on there..... or even a full working copy of MS Word.
Thanks, Toshiba... and Microsoft. Next time I'll know that I'll just be better off starting clean with a reformat and WinXPSP2.
So if you buy a Toshiba.... which I believe are still well made laptops.... do yourself a favor and buy a clean copy of windows XP and just start over before going through any of this hassle.
As far as toshiba customer service... not bad not great. I ordered this custom built and overnight shipped. The build and the shipping took several days longer than they told me, but everything did arrive as ordered.
So there you go. -
I just got a toshiba notebook. It's good! I like it!
-
I love mine
P105-S6147
Not a single problem for a year now! -
my parents just bought me one for christmas. it's a Satellite L200. :x i actually like it.
)
Pentium Dual Core
1GB RAM
120GB HDD
Windows Vista Home Basic (i hate it)
basically, the performance is good. but i prefer the M200.
haha.. -
I'm almost satisfyed with my P205-S6347. I'd like a little more CPU power. I've got it tuned up pretty good so far.
Lots of extras.
I does work quite well.
Looks good too.
Love the big screen. -
using my u305 with xp, and its amazing. I like that they release bios updates frequently.. fixes allot of things
-
The P105-9339 is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!
Today is 2/15/2008 - NO VISTA 64 DRIVERS!
Just go to google and type in "stutter problem P105" , You'll see and endless stream of people so pissed that they're ready to sue Toshiba for false advertising.
I've recently owned 2 laptops..
HP NV9408? Dual Core AMD 1.8 , upgraded to 4GB ram, 180GB HD 128nvidia/shared?
3.6 Windows Performance Score (video card slow)
Retail around $799 (ram was $109 on ebay)
and..
Toshiba P105-9339 Dual Core Intel 2ghz, 2gb ram, 200gb hd, 512mb Nvidia
4.8 Windows Performance Score (hard drive slow)
Retail around $1999
The HP was a much better machine and about half the price! Case looked 1000x's better, it was thinner, nicer volume control etc.. This Toshiba looks generic and ugly.
Toshiba has no remote control, the HP worked flawlessly with windows media.
Toshiba has NO VISTA 64bit DRIVERS! HP had EVERYTHING for vista 64. Toshiba is a JOKE!
Toshiba has some cheezy touch pad, god this thing looks soo cheezy, it's like a Speak and Spell. Just looks like 30 different manufacturers threw components together into a generic shell from Taiwan, without cooperating or coordinating with the manufacturers to make it look right.
Fingerprint this is pretty useless to me, just more junk running in my system tray.
Toshiba advertises this thing as a 64bit gaming laptop, whooptee-doo, 64 bit without 64 bit drivers! It looks like the users who bought this thing when it first came out had to pull teeth from Toshiba just to get it to work with 32 bit VISTA!!!! WORST COMPANY EVER -
My notebook: Toshiba Satellite Pro A200
Basic Specs: 1.66 GHz Core2Duo, 1GB RAM (upgraded to 2GB), 120GB HDD, Intel X3100 graphics chipset, Vista Business
OK, one of the first things I did was to uninstall most of the junkware it came bundled with (eg. Office 2007 trial, Norton Security, etc). I put my own replacement software and also configured things to my liking. Before purchasing the computer I had about a year's experience with Vista on my desktop, so I knew how to use it and also had all my compatible software available, so unlike a lot of people I knew how to use the OS and hence had a fairly smooth experience. Upgraded to 2GB RAM because that's how I roll.
Still, I'm a control freak so I had to repartition reformat and reinstall before I would be happy. Fortunately TOSHIBA had a bunch of drivers and extra tools with installers on the C: drive, so I backed them up, downloaded updated versions for several of them and went to work. Deleted the recovery partition as well as the hidden partition in front of the C: drive, reclaiming all the space. Installed Vista Ultimate, updated, drivers, now it was clean and a touch faster.
I also tried dual-booting for a while with Ubuntu, but I soon discovered it was pointless. Compiz Fusion had my graphics chipset blacklisted due to lack of support, and even though I worked out how to remove the blacklist and get it working, it was full of tearing and not as smooth as I hoped, plus XV was broken so video playback required alternatives. Fn keys didn't work at all, so no muting or brightness control from the keyboard. Ultimately it was far less functional in Linux, so why bother?
So, final conclusion - my first laptop, and I'm happy. Gaming performance is crap, but it got me off my gaming addiction so that's a net benefit I suppose. -
I have a Toshiba Satellite A210-128 and I am pretty happy with it!
Specs:
AMD Turion 64 X2
ATI Mobile Radeon HD 2600
2 GB RAM
200 GB HDD
When I first got the laptop, there were some problems with the built in Chicony Webcam, but they were solved by the newest drivers (that are FINALLY vista compatible!!!!) that were release in the end of January. Other than that, no major problems!
I'm not a big gamer, but I am a big fan of the Sims 2 and this laptop runs the game GREAT! The graphics are fantastic, the game doesn't lag (even with all of my custom content...)...It's just greatSuch a big improvement to my old Dell dinosaur Inspiron 5150 (which was a badass laptop back in it's day), lol.
The only thing that I don't really like about my laptop is the battery life. With my dell I could go approx 3 hours without having it plugged in..With the toshiba, about an hour and a half...I may have to buy a better battery someday,b ut for now I am satisfied!
I love my toshiba! -
I a A215-S7462 that came with vista home pre. pre-installed, dont like vista, formatted and installed win xp home now it runs like a champ, very slugish in vista even upgraded my memory from 2 gigs to 4 gigs that didn't faze vista much. So now I am very happy with this laptop!

I'm checking out this thread because i'm thinking of disposing my HP Pavilion dv2120us. Too many problems within the year - failed MOBO, DVD drive and battery. It looks good but the components are crap. My brother who bought a Toshiba Satellite notebook 6 months before I bought this crap hasn't had any problems with his Toshiba. And to think that he just throws his notebook anywhere while I've been taking care of my Pavilion very evry well. Sheesh!
I'm thinking of getting the Toshiba M200(?) I think. Nice specs... -
I just bought an A205-6812 and so far so good. Never used Vista before but I am getting there.
-
My initial experience was bad, but its not Toshiba's fault.
I bought the X200 tonight, C2D 1.66, 3gb ram, 8700GT 512mb, 17". I bought mine from Best Buy and upon opening I relized I was given a used one, or returned. The security seals were already broken, finger prints on the LCD, and when I turned it on for the first time, instead of booting to Vista, it booted to a factory re-install of the software. Kinda annoying, will have to return it. I did let it reinstall so I could test it out but Vista kept crashing and I think it rebooted 3 times due to "unknown" errors. Vista or Toshiba, maybe a problem which is why it was returned, no idea.
But, overall I LOVE this laptop. Putting my experience aside, the specs for what I paid $1600 CND, was awesome. Love the bright screen, great video card. I tried out Crysis and was able to run it at 1280x800 Med settings and it ran fairly great. Deffinately pleased with the laptop though the processor only being 1.66, kinda wish it was at least 1.83 or 2ghz as 1.66 is on the lower end now. -
i got a A200-1AX back in september of 2007
specs are
T7100-1.8 Ghz core 2 duo
2gb ram
HD2600 256mb
200gb hd
and so far, i'm loving it, i thought xp was gonna be good on it but it just worsened battery life, but i failed to realize how awesome vista is, it never crashed or got stuck to date.
pretty awesome laptop, cost me about 1300$ back then -
i got an a205/s4577
from the pawn shop, it was locked and they were sellin it for 500. i told them ill buy it for 399...and got it unlocked...it had been converted to xp, now its back on vista...
i love it...
but i realized it was on xp because the camera doesnt work on vista...now im trippin balls tryin to find the fix...
but i still love it... -
and u know what...before i bought this laptop...toshiba is what i wanted to get, i was set in my mind that was teh lap top for me...i couldnt have made a happier or wiser decision...wish my whole life was this easy.
-
Just got an X205-S9800 from Newegg (was $1249 now back up to $1449 - got lucky, I guess) and I really love it. A super nice looking machine, IMHO.
I am an old UNIX hand, and it wasn't until XP came along that I would really consider Windows a "real" OS. XP has been very stable for me and I was not at all looking forward to Vista. Planned to remove it. But I've changed my mind. Vista performance is very snappy on this rig and I find it's not as bad as I feared. This thing is smooth as butter so far. Great 'out of box" experience and no issues (yet, fingers crossed!). Yes, too much bloatware. I'd be OK with that if they made it easier to get rid of it.
Lots of nice features and some of the Toshiba 'added value' software is actually useful. The DVD player software looks great.
Nice build quality and solid construction. Incredible audio for a laptop - I mean truly amazing. The crisp presence and clarity of the speakers is outstanding. This is very important to me. I have to use headphones with all previous laptops since the sound is so poor usually. I'm already enjoying my music with this baby sans headphones.
Can't wait to get my games loaded up! A real good value for the money. To anyone considering one, I don't think you'll be disappointed. -
P.S. Just downloaded and ran the Crysis demo - runs fine at medium settings at 1024x768. This is on the stock Vista system - no driver updates or anything (yet). It can only get better.
-
I haven't been happy at all. I have a Qosmio G35-AV650. $3,000 laptop. I accept that the HD-DVD was a risk, but this laptop has been a letdown in several other ways. I've gone through two power supplies. (They keep coming apart.) One motherboard replacement. One internal fan replacement. The plastic border to the screen is starting to detact near the hinges.
Of course, HD-DVD has never particularly worked in Vista on this "Vista Capable" laptop, either. I don't think I've watched a title in 8 months. And software support is, well... let's just say that it leaves a lot to be desired.
The community for this laptop is so small, too, that it's virtually impossible to find help online when you need it. Chances are that no one you know owns these things.
There are things I like. The dual hard drives are handy. The screen is stunning. The keyboard and touchpad have been great, the sound is fantastic. But Toshiba's support for this model has left me pretty firmly committed to never buying a Toshiba product again. -
Swiego,
If you are still under warranty or have a service contract, ask about their "lemon" policy. Also, you say their support, did they balk at fixing? Take too long? What? Just curious.
Laptops do seem to have more problems, especially the hinges, screens, etc. but I would expect Toshiba to stand behind their products better than most manufacturers. Hope I don't have to find out, though!
Playing Crysis at full 1440x900 res with all medium settings and loving it. Actually playable with textures and shaders on high if you don't mind a little slower frame rate (<20). But medium looks pretty darn good to me, so I went back to that.
Good luck with your Qosmio, I hope your luck with it improves!

I'm very very happy with my Toshiba. I have an old one, that I bought back in 2003! (model: A25-S307). Lol!
Anyway, it's been extremely reliable. It's been almost 5 years since I bought it, and it has given me almost no trouble! While friends were switching laptops because of different problems with theirs, I was still enjoying mine. Knock on wood tough, I guess I was lucky. A friend of mine had to change his Toshiba because of motherboad problems, overheating I think.
Mine is still working fine (and I have used it for college and work, and use it almost every day for several hours). It has obvioulsy become slow by now, so I'm planning on buying one of the new Satellites. Maybe the M305. -
-
Well.. I went to BestBuy yesterday to take a close look at the new models. All I can say is.. I miss the old Toshiba style! The new one is not that bad, just not my style, way too glossy. I still don't find myself showing that up at a business presentation or something. Too bad, because I love Toshiba :-(
-
I have a toshiba A10 which addmitedly is old, but never crashed and never gave any problems apart from dust collection in the cooling section. That, by all standards is pretty good for a lap as, in the same time i already burned a MSI, a VIO and a PBell. Only toshiba service desk sucks.
-
My M70 is fine as far as the hardware goes. Having a recovery cd with a single image that forces you to reformat rather than having a reinstall options is ludicrous.
Having drivers that only work with XP Home and not Pro so you can never upgrade is also inexcusable. In order to have all of the software and drivers you paid good money for, you have to stay with the original OS and never upgrade. If you upgrade, the drivers don't work and the software is not available.
I will never buy a Toshiba again. -
i love my shiba like there is no tomorrow. omg, i posted already but when i posted orignianlly, i had camera problems and such...
i upgraded to vista ultimate, and everything works like a beast. got my SP1.
got my little tweaks in there.
got some games on it like hitman and doom. waitin to play halo and other games...
updated my intel graphics drivers...
im wantin some more ram, now i see that i supports up to 4 gig...
jeesus...i cant ask for more, im a computer game novice novice, so grphics cards abilities are beyond my needs.
duo 1.73 processor is awesome for me, though i know there are bigger processors, u know i cant be happier
with the cam, with everything. built in speaker...i can go forever..

from what i have read on the internet, it seems to be a problem with 32-bit windows, 64-bit windows is unaffected by this little problem. I don't know much more than that about this issue, anyone else here able to shed light on this?
-
yea, but does it not show, but still uses it or it neither shows or use it?
-
that I do not know, as I haven't been able to
afford the 4GB i want to put in my machine yet. basically from what i read windows will only be able to show 3GB of that 4GB but as to being able to use that final 1GB, I do not know. M$ should patch their freaking O$ backbone. -

We just purchased the Satellite A305-S6825, and, with the 3G's, it's a whole new world to me! I can't believe the speed. And, even though it has the same res as our Gateway NX570X, everything is so much clearer because of the glossy screen- there's no "ghost" effect when the screen is tilted up.
I just love it! -
I just ordered a Toshiba A305-S6845 but the demand is such that I cannot expect delivery until 5/15.
I have had a Toshiba A75-S231 for at least 3 years. I had some troubles with it shutting down or crashing toward the end of the first year. I contacted Toshiba and they said send it to them. They fixed it for free, but the problem came back. In all, I send the laptop in 3 times before it was fixed for good...but after that it was rock solid for another 2 years.
Gradually the Pentium 4 3.33gHz processor was left behind, and a unit that was speedy when new is slower than the cheapest of the current generations. What's worse, it does not have USB 2 ports! I began to try benchmarking it to compare with newer units to try and see how much faster the new stuff was. The answer seems to be 3 to 6 times faster, and my 100GB hard drive is 80% full which approaches a point of diminishing performance.
While out of town for a week I thought I would catch up on my DVD library but the crash problem came back and it was apparent the unit was running hot and shutting down.
Upon my return from the business trip my wife took pity and let me order a new laptop. After looking at the options, and knowing my budget was the same as last time, I selected the A305-S6845.
Subsequently, I took out the vacuum cleaner and sucked some dust out of the cooling ports and deep within the Pentium 4. It runs cool again and does not shut down, so I should be able to remove all my expensive software and irreplaceable files and port them to the new machine when it arrives next week.
I worried that the A305 might have problems similar to the A75-S231, but research shows the new one has a T8100 processor which is one of the earliest Penryn 45nm units and pulls 35 watts. The Pentium 4 processor pulls from 55-88 watts and when you say it's "smokin' " you're not necessarily kidding.
I trust Toshiba will look after me if I have problems. At least enough so that I bought another Toshiba despite the trouble that the A75-S231 is apparently famous for. -
Toshiba Laptop, I think it is OK compare to Dell because technology is the same . The important thing is how to satisfy to users . What they need then they can get fast, easy ... For example, I am used Dell (for 10 years) . what I need for my system then I just go into side "Dell driver download support" and get it . But Toshiba [the first time I try this guy] I waste my time to looking "driver" for my system . Even I get into Toshiba side support with no help ! So a question,
"do you like your Toshiba" ?
my answer is NO . It is not because a Laptop, but because a support . Toshiba is making not easy for user when they need .
buile -
i can see how dell has good support and toshiba doesnt, im sure in china or out there in the far east dell wouldnt have great customer support and toshiba might...
-
I sent in a claim (using traditional mail) for the Toshiba Hinge Remediation Program because my Satellite notebook computer developed serious hinge damage due to defective design. That was two months ago. Since then I have heard nothing from Toshiba until this week. They appologized for the defective hinge design and said I will receive a $75.00 coupon in lieu of repair costs in about 12 months. $75 dollars is about 25% of the actual cost of repair. 12 months? How's that for customer service.
