Over a year old and out of warranty
Recently bricked due to a bad firmware posted at the Toshiba driver downloads support center.
Definitely not buying one again--- -

It doesn't matter for Toshiba of course, since what's one customer after all? -
I'm a very happy camper. After a lot of comparison shopping I ordered a Satellite P305 from NewEgg. Couldn't touch the specs for the price anywhere else, even after applying substantial discounts at Dell and HP. It was beautiful and quick out of the box, but after a little tweaking it flies. Used the empty drive bay to house an SSD and did a clean install of 64-bit Vista. Formatted the included drive for data and storage. Display is gorgeous, Fusion finish is tough, next-gen ATI video card can handle the newest games and any multimedia task I can throw at it. Can't really think of any negatives other than the bloatware installed at the factory, but the other guys are worse. I haven't had it long enough to assess reliability, but build quality looks solid and I'm confident I'll be loving this Tosh for years to come.

Sorry yours bricked, but that's always a risk with a firmware flash. I did enough poking around in the Toshiba download section to know that they don't list every model and you need to be careful to match specs before installing drivers, etc. Bios firmware is something you do only if you really need a specific fix.
So far, so good on everything I've tried with mine. Time will tell. -
I have a Satellite A205-S5880 that I bought on sale at Office Depot. I like the computer very much but I'm having problems with the 32 bit Vista Home Premium OS. I did a VMWare VM and installed Windows XP Pro and it seems to be doing fine so far. I use it mostly for programming.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6916
. I have had it for just a little over 2 weeks. I loooove this laptop, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop
. I bought it since my Compaq Presario is quite old (about 5 or 6 years old) and hardly was working for what I wanted, so I got my Toshiba. My compaq was nothing but trouble since day one, I've yet to have a SINGLE problem with this laptop (don't wanna jinx myself D: )
What I like:
-It doesn't get as hot as any other laptop I've ever owned
-It actually lets me use IMVU (which my other laptop butchered)
-Best preforming laptop I've owned (My mom has a laptop with Vista, it only has a 3.1 this one has 5.0 in the vista experience index , which is nice)
- Neat design (my mom actually spotted it at best buy, at that point I knew I had to have it, and I couldn't get it off my mind for a week ...everyone wanted me to shut up)
-I just overall love it, it's my best laptop EVER!
Things I dislike:
-gets dirty very easily
but that's all I dislike.

Just bought a U400 03S and it's the best thing since sliced bread. When I saw the specs, nothing could compare for the price - it was on sale at 33% reduction, probably because it's now been superceded. But for 13" notebook weighing about 2kg it was specced/priced better than any similar Dell or HP or other that I looked at. (I paid less than I would have for the equivalent Dell even with their 20% off plus another 8% coupon discount.)
At first I was put off by the glossy finish and nearly bought a Sony Vaio for around the same price. The sony looked very nice and had similar specs but with only 3Gb ram instead of the 4Gb the U400 had, a smaller hard drive (250Gb vs 400Gb), was heavier and bigger (14" vs 13") and had far fewer ports. The U400 has hdmi, e-sata, firewire plus the normal memory card, usb, express card etc.
Got it home and it's so far ahead of my dying compaq. The keyboard feels very good to type with, the screen is great and the sound is better than I'm used to on a notebook. And it's lightning fast - the 4Gb ram and very good hard drive, plus the fast 2.4GHz processor make all the difference. And the Intel 5100 WiFi on the U400 makes a huge difference. Download speeds have improved noticeably from the NAS as well as from the internet.
Although the U400 was first released about 12 months ago, if you can still find it anywhere it compares very favourably with anything else I saw, and can be bought for a song. Especially with the end of financial year coming up here in Australia.
The only slight problem I had was that I needed to update the fingerprint software because it seemed to cause a bit of a conflict with offline files. That was easily done with the latest version on the Toshiba website.
Other than that, no problems so far. It's very quiet, cool (very good fan and outlet) and I'm even getting to really like the glossy finish now that I've removed the stickers. Oh, and the touch pad is fully configurable (unlike the review model on this site). Seems a very solid machine for the consumer end of the market. I bought it mostly for work - and expect to use it for up to 10 hours a day.
This is the first Toshiba I've had - I've mostly had compaq/HP in notebooks, and a gateway. This seems to be a more solidly built machine than anything I've had previously and I've a feeling it will last a good long time. -

I love my tecra a9, but I do get flickering when on AC and connect to an external monitor. It's worse with the docking station.
also the screen is not bright enough. And the silver sort of color makes it seem cheap. my tecra p4 was much better.
and this laptop is a bit creaky, and flexable.
otherwise it is a very good and reliable laptop. I will only buy toshiba and asus laptops. -

If they made the Qosmio X300 with dual 9800M GTX card for Europe, I would love Toshiba even more (I guess I'll have to do with one then
)... I had a wonderful time with my previous Toshibas, a P100 and a X200, now a proud X300 owner, AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM!

I like everything of my Satellite L310 except temperature is quite high about 50 C.

Satellite A505 S6960. Needed to replace my more expensive but now dead P205-S6347. I'll fix it later with a new motherboard and faster CPU when money and time is available.
I like it except for it's overly presure sensitve mouse pad. Not having Bluetooth is a minor concern. I had a Bluetooth USB setup on my other laptop that I just moved over to this one. I'll install the 500G HD from the other laptop in here also. -

I love my Toshiba Qosmio, its good accept those windows Hiccups (Blue Screen, Timeout freeze etc.......)

Wow, why are there so many that rated Toshiba bad?
Does it is really good or bad? Because I'm looking to get a S6898.
Thanks! -

I bought my L305 new on sale for $400 4 months ago. Its a low spec'ed laptop but gets the job done as a backup laptop. Recently it stopped charging. Found out it was the ac charger. Called them up and they sent one overnight! Up and running agian. Because of their service, I highly recommend Toshibas.
-
I bought a Qosmio x300 back in Nov. 08' and I love it .. best laptop I've ever owned (certainly not the lightest or best on battery but far and away the best performer)
-
-
I'll wait until they're affordable thanks ... 800 bucks for a 256GB SSD is a too much to spend on a little extra time off the wall .... -
-
besides the price of the SSDs .. at a spine cracking 11lbs. I'm never too far from a wall outlet anyways .... more and more manufacturers are installing them these days so the price won't take long to come down and tohsiba recently announced a 512GB SSD although I'm not sure what the price is .. pretty soon all laptops will have them just for the battery benefits and I/O increases

Bought my Portege R600 back in November 2008. In March 2009 and now -- August 2009 -- have had black/dead pixels appear on screen. (see my earlier posting about this.)
And now I'm waiting to see if Toshiba will honour their warranty agreement and replace the screen a second time. Otherwise, I'm definitely never buying Toshiba again. -
I think alot of people are, for some reason, angry with Vista, so "they hate their Toshibas".
Oh Yah, forgot to mention this laptop I'm on right now is...
Toshiba Satellite 1410-S174

Dead serious....it still runs, everything works. -
We are very happy with our new Toshiba A505-S6965. It has excellent performance, is decent looking, very good speakers, a good screen, and there is a lot of bang for your buck with this particular model. The LED screen, back-lit keyboard, and a decent graphics card were big factors in our decision to buy it, along with the out-the-door price of appx. $750. Overall, a very nice machine.
-
This A505-S6960 is a good laptop for the price. I picked mine up for $625 during a sale at Best Buy so it worked out to less than $700 with tax.
To bad BlueTooth wasn't included with it, but I guess at that price I shouldn't be surprised.
4gigs of ram is plenty of ram for now. The 320gig hard drive is not enough for me so later I'll install a 500gig. The screen meets the minimum needed for my constant work with Word files. Actually it is a nice size screen. So glad to get away from those Minnie 10 and 12 in screens.
I did not need a machine for games. This is a replacement for a previous Toshiba that a kid stuffed a SD card in it till it jammed and then he shorted out the motherboard trying to get it out.
This more for business and e-mail than anything else. I do some mild photo work with it but nothing fancy. I mainly do a lot of work for a non-profit group. So big Word files and a lot of scanning documents and writing reports and tons of e-mail to take care of. This machine handles everything quite well. Not the fastest but not exactly slow either.
All in all this Toshiba works great for what I needed in a hurry. As it turns out this $700 machine is a good replacement for the $1400 machine I'm going to have to repair out of my own pocket when I can affored to later on. -
I recently bought the L300-22E which is the AMD 2.1Ghz version with 3GB RAM and a 250GB hard disk. Its a good budget machine (although a card reader really would have been nice!).
I love my laptop. -
How did you add 1gb of ram to a Toshiba 1905-s277? I have the same laptop and I want to do the same, but everything I have read says that 512mb of ram is the max ram....any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks -
-
I got mine and I did not have a choice, it is an ok computer but it is not what I really need. There are a few quirks but they are bearable.
-
Got my L500D 5 days ago, I like it. I did some tweaks, (some from the Vista tweak section), I havent had any problems. Everything worked from the get-go, as it should. I couldn't pony up the bucks for a Fujitsu, so I figured my 9 yr old Toshiba is still going, I'd get anohter Toshiba. Plus I got a smoking deal. I WILL say this,my old Satellite is a tank. This is definetly a bit lighter...we'll see if it's solid in time.
I really think Toshiba does a nice job on quality though.... -
I had no problems with mine and loved its 'better than Dell' speakers. Irritating to dismantle, but that has no bearing on its function.
It was a Satellite A200-03v
Got it in June, sold it in September.
It had T2310 - up'd to T5550
1GB ram- up'd to 3GB
Intel smell graphics
DVD+/- RW and all the other stuff in the 03v package. -

Making disassembly easy because you know what to expect, you get no surprises. -
My Toshiba is a 2001 Satellite 1800 (got it second-hand for $4 last week)-very happy with it.
Like how it can operate as a CD player without botting Windows. -
I like my Toshiba, even though it's the only Toshiba I've ever had a problem with.
Toshiba Qosmio X305-711. Bought it a little over a year ago. -
Toshiba Satellite L300D Vista OS 32bit AMD Athlone X2 1GB ram. Bluetooth.
My first computer and laptop: gotten about 14months ago (Xmas&Birthday rolled into one!): The TEMPRO update facility has been brilliant. I've found that it's got more than enough capacity etc., for my needs. It's been wonderful to learn on...the occasioal freeze: tho' I've tended to use Vista's Memory Diagnostic Tool and CHKDSK, for errors/consistancy more often lately....seems to have warmed in the process. Keeping progs/apps fully patched and regular reg. scan/defrag, and cleaning seems to really agree with it. Running like a charm !!!! Havn't screamed "HELP" too often !! Thankyou Toshiba. -
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
I am very satisfied with my Toshiba T115-S1100 ... a lovely little "high powered netbook".
-
The issues I had and steps I took to make it last:
- within first 6 months: the laptop continually overheats and the fan is always going. Was told by friend that all of this series have the same problem and that someone should sue Toshiba.
- 14 months (2 months after warranty expiration): graphics card memory starts to degrade causing visual glitches and overall system failure. I only survive with hardware acceleration reduced greatly. My computer even freaks out when I use plain-graphics Ubuntu.
- 22 months: Working with laptop plugged in, my computer tells me it has 5 minutes of battery left. Mains adaptor DOES NOT work. Brought it in - they have no idea why it won't charge but clean out the dust encouraged to gather by the fans. Mysteriously works.
- 29 months: Worst of worst. My screen turns pink and the backlight goes out. Being poor, I replace the FL inverter (the problem 95% of the time). Turns out I'm in the 5%. Take apart the LCD screen (something they tell you not to do) and replace the bulb. A little glowy at the bottom but a miracle fix.
After less than three years with this laptop of this "awesome brand", I'm surprised it's lasted this long. Someone less frugal and determined as I would have to had given up after month 14. And I wouldn't blame them in the least. -
I have owned 3 Toshibas since 2000 (and a bad overheating IBM ZD7030US). I had generally good experiences with them, they last long even though I use them as desktop replacements and they are left on all the time.
I forget what the model of the first one from 2000 was, the 2nd was a P105-S503, and my current is a P105-S9312. I have been using the P105-S9312 since September of 2006 and it still runs most MMOs decently at lower settings. The only major complaint I have is that the P105-S9312 has cracks along both hinges, which after reading up on seems to be a common problem with the model. I sent it in for service for a problem with my AC adapter to Toshiba once, and they refused to service it due to the stress cracks. I would still recommend Toshiba to others for general use, even though I am looking at Asus and Sager for my next laptop. -
Since I just got a new Toshiba I thought I should enter the poll.
I asked for and got a T135 ultraportable for Christmas- black, SU4100 low voltage dual core processor, Win7, 13" screen, no optical drive. It works well and I'm happy with the size, weight and battery life.
I also bought one for my daughter. She likes it but hers had a problem with excessive keyboard deflection so I'm trying to decide whether to send it back to newegg for replacement or to send it to Toshiba for warranty repair. Mine came from BestBuy but I ordered hers from newegg in order to get a white one.
Let me make a belated entry for my wife- she has had her A605 for 1 year now.
Her silver A605 has a 12" screen, Vista, ultralowvoltage processor, AND an optical drive. It is also very light. She really likes it and uses it quite a bit at home for casual use. She almost never uses her desktop anymore.
I bought the machine for her. She told me she wanted a computer that was "2 pounds". This is almost impossible, in fact a year ago it was hard to find much selection even under 3 pounds. I decided not to get her a netbook because they don't have much power and I didn't think she would be happy with a 10" screen. I thought 12" might be acceptable, and anything bigger at that time was heavier. The A605 was a LOT more expensive than a netbook, but the increased features are much better for her use.
Her main complaint is that the machine takes too long to boot, and the battery life is not as good as she would like. She gets 3+ hours of battery, I don't know what her power profile is but maybe we could adjust it and improve the battery life. I've thought about buying her an SSD for the machine to improve its speed. Perhaps within the next 12 months the cost of a good 128GB SSD will reach a point where I can justify the expense. -
I got my X205 bout a week ago
(Christmas gift for me I got on Ebay for 500 bucks.YAYS)
I had a few driver related problems due to having to put XP
on a hard drive thats never had an OS in its life. Still am a little.
But all in all I GREATLY enjoy it. SO much better then my worn out
acer was.
Thanks to the Sli cards, and the 2ghz C2D, I can ACTUALLY play a modern day game like the new Wolfenstein and SPEED through Sony Vegas 7.
I'm still trying to get used to not having to wait 45 seconds for XP to boot!
I hope mine doesn't succumb to the infamous FRIED MOTHERBOARD everyone's experiencing with these lappys -

I like my R600 for the short time I've had it but the memory was not running at full speed and now it has been in repair at a Toshiba authorized service provider for two weeks and they still can't figure out what's happening.
Two days ago they had to contact Toshiba in Germany for support but they didn't get a reply yet but they promised to call me tomorrow to give me an update.
I wonder how long I have to wait until I can claim a replacement laptop.
I still like the R600 though and hope to get it back soon. -

Heh, just got the Toshiba Satellite L505-10x. I'm happy as far as performance is concerned, though the bloatware still has me shaking my head in confusion - there's so much for so much, I have no idea what to remove, or even what I can remove (you must understand, this is my first laptop and my first experience with bloatware). I guess that is my only complaint. Can't seem to find a bloatware removal guide for Toshiba Satellites, more's the pity.
Cheers,
Patrick
