Although the guide on irisvista.com says to use a Torx-8 screwdriver, I had to find a Torx-7 to open the Wireless Card Cover on my M115.
FYI.

Help please... -

-
great link on how to open the pc......however can anyone take a stab at a motherboard issue?
I have a Toshiba Satelite A15-S157 with what seems to be a power issue....if I let it stand without working it stays on fine. Fan seems fine etc.....however when I start working on it....after about 20 mins the screen would go blank and the light s would give me a beep code.......now that I want to replicate the issue it won't happen so I can get the beep codes again....everything I read pointed to a power issue on the motherboard and that a replacement would be needed. Does anyone know what would be the chips/parts I would probably need to replace and where I could get them? -
1. Download THIS program
2. run the program claled SP2004.exe
3. set the Priority to 10 and then press the start button
If your computer does not turn off within 1hr it is not an overheating problem
If your computer DOES turn off under an hour and then when you turn it back on it turns off again (quickly) it is most likely an overheating issue.
If i turns out to be an overheating issue, turn the computer upside down, take off the cover in the back corner to expose the cooling unit (see picture below). Then clean out the fan and heatsink (the copper thing with fins on it) with a can of compressed air.
Then retest the laptop like I instructed above. If it still turns off so quickly its possible you have a defective heatsink (the copper thing with fins on it) or that some other component is overheating and failing such as the AC adapter, the Proccessor or the power supply for the CPU on the motherboard or one of a 1001 other things. -
Cool. I will try as soon as I get home...I was able to replicate the problem after I posted this message...the code is:
4 short, 3 long and 1 short........any ideas -
based on that code its the memory. But that is for Phoenix BIOS'. I cant remember which bios manufacture your A15 uses.
for AMI that is video memory. Either way it appears to be a system memory issue because the A15 uses system memory as video memory.
I would suggest you download THIS and burn the ISO file to a CD via Nero or any other program that supports ISO burning. If you need instructions let me know. This program will test the memory. You will have to boot from it. To boot from it press F12 and select boot from CD. -
ok it is not a overheating issue. I can run it and as soon as it dies I have to unplug it and the battery, then put them back on and it will run for about the same time.....I ran the Memtest and it was passing all the way through right before it died........any thing else you can think of that might help......oh and I even changed out the 2 sticks of memory for a stick of 512 and it seemed to do better but same issue.....could it be the wrong type of memory?
-
with the wrong type of memory the laptop would not POST (Power On Self Test).
If you feel confident about working on your laptop a little, you can try removing your HDD, wifi card, modem, unhook the touchpad and unplug the LCD. Then connect the laptop to an external monitor and re-run memtest. If the laptop still turns off its 99% chance that the motherboard or CPU is the problem. -
cool. thx for all the help
-
oh, almost forgot, you might want to try another AC adapter. I know its a hassle, but you can purchase a 3rd party one at Frys and then return it if its not the problem.

Hi all,
I am having problems with my 18 months old Satellite M60, luckily I found this site and the detailed instructions how to take it apart (actually the instructions are for the M65 but it looks the same), thanks CJ2600.
The problem is that the computer doesn`t turn on. When I plug in the AC adapter the front (blue) indicator light doesn`t come on, when I press the power button (even when I hold it for any lenght of time) nothing happens. Actually, as I noticed in the evening, when I plug in the AC adapter the indicator lights up very faintly and only for a fractin of a second. If I install the battery the orange indicator doesn`t light up. Basically I have a dead system that doesn`t start neither from the battery nor from the AC adapter. I took it apart to see if I have the broken DC connector solder joint, as some peopel have suggested on other places, however Toshiba has changed the design and this computer has a flexible connector that will not break even after repeated usage. So now I have a computer that is apart but I am not sure where to look for any sign of trouble. I checked the voltage where the DC is connected to the mother board and it is around 19.5 volts, so there is power there. I checked the voltage at the battery terminals on the mother board and when the AC is connected it is about 1.5 volts, when I disconnect the AC cable it jumps to about 14.5 volts and slowly discharges down to 0 volt. I am not sure where to look for broken solder joints, if at all. Anybody has any idea as to what I should do?
It is a fairly new system, I have no intention on buying a new one. Does anyone know a reputable place where I can get a replacement motherboard if that is my last resort?
Thanks,
Alex
Edit:
I plugged in the AC adapter and connected the battery to the motherboard. I measure around 17.5 volts at the battery terminals with the battery installed AC connected. AC disconnected voltage goes up to 18.5 and slowly discharges. AC connected battery removed voltage was around 8 volts the first time but after a few tries it as around 1.5 volts again. Strange, unless my multimeter is dieing too. -
I droped my Toshiba M40, everything works no problem, but the casing is slightly open in the front left side corner of the laptop. How do i snap it back? I tryed to force it, but i dont want to brake it. I have a picture, but i dont know how to attach it to this post.

100,

Tnx n advance, -
I currently own a Toshiba P15-S479. I need to find instructions on how to dis-assemble it so I can replace the power input jack. irisvista.com does not seem to have instructions for this model.
Thanks in advance. -
I have a Satellie M45 laptop that the Toshiba repair people has just told me that the screen needs replacing. They would charge over $800.00. There is no way I am going to do that. I can buy a cheaper laptop and probably better one. I was wondering if you think I could buy a screen on e-bay and change the screen myself. Do you have instruction on that?

I have been unable to locate the hard drive in my Toshiba Satellite 1100-S101. I am not new to taking apart computers as I have been building them since 1984. I even bought a new 60Gb HD to install 3 months ago. I did call Toshiba and asked a technician if I could locate the HDD by removing the back and she said yes. I didn't pursue it any further. It has taken 3 months to find time to replace the HD. I'm afraid of "messing things up"! Please help me locate it.
Thank you for your time and knowledge

Hi,
I have a toshiba m45. recently one of the hinges broke. its mainly the plastic part that sticks up and holds the LCD screen in place. Ive been looking for a replacement part but havent had any luck. I've tried Ebay and several online sources, but havent been able to find it. Anyone know of a website that would be able to help me out for a good price. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks -
hi

Hey, can anyone provide either the service manual or a mini guide to replacing the Wireless network card & CMOS battery on the Toshiba Portege M300?

I know it's not a good idea taking your new laptop apart, but I got my X205-9349 late last week on 09-11-2007 to be exact and I already took it completely apart changed the cpu from the T7100 to T7300, removed the goop they use on the cpu and gpu and put Artic silver on both cpu and gpu, I also put ceramique on the NB and memory for the 8700M GT. I hope this will help all those components stay cool. ( I love tearing laptops apart and have had plenty of experience doing this)
-
Wow you are very good.
So CPU and GPU are changable in X205?
I need higher!
Will that void the warranty though?
-
I know the graphics card can be changed, I would liketo get a card with 512Megs of memory but the problem is finding someone that sells the one that will fit into the X205 laptop.
-
Isn't the graphics card in the MXM form factor?
-
I think the 8700M GT is the latest and greatest (not 100% sure) but it only has 256Megs of dedicated memory and shares 768Megs with main system memory in Vista to make it 1Gig, I would like a card with 512Megs dedicated memory for future proofing a bit but I know it won't improve performance, that is why I went with X205-9349 and saved about $800 over the 9359 and spent $200 for a T7300 and now have the same cpu speed as the 9359 for $600 less.
-
Hi,
I am looking for satelite U305 disassembly guide. can any one help me -
I just created a guide on how to disassemble the X205-9349 if anyone is interested, the pdf file is too big to upload to this server but I have it for anyone that wants it.
-
Can you upload it to some free uploader, like rapidshare? This would be great.
-
OK, Thanks for asking and so I don't have to e-mail this everyone who wants it I have uploaded it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/63294352/X205_Disassembly_Guide.pdf
So anyone can download it anytime, have fun kids!!!!!!.
-
Thanks a million! That's an extremely useful document for X200/X205 owners, thanks again for taking time to making it!

Hi All, Sorry haven't checked out all the threads yet before posting. I have an old Toshiba Satellite A55 and the DVD-RW is not working anymore. I would like to replace the drive from another Toshiba laptop too, but I dunno how to remove them both from the devices. If you could post some step-by-step images on how-to, it will be much appreciated! (btw, I have seen how to remove the KB, so just the DVD-RW pull-out pics will do) Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks CJ2600..
With the help of ur guide I was able to Disassemble my Toshiba P105 laptop to replace the CPU
-
could you tell me what all i need to do to remove left speaker from m45-s359 the guides i've read doesn't show that
thanks deb -
Good I really glad I can help some of my comrades on the forum.
-
How I get that one, just in case i need to do something...
-
You can get my guide here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179789
-
You can use a compressed air duster. Blow air through the fan vent and watch all the dust come out! Just be careful to do it while the laptop is turned off. You don't want to force the fan the other way while it's working. Also, be careful not to shake the can, otherwise liquids will come out and could damage your laptop.
-
Thanks...
-
Actually even with laptop turned off this way you can damage the fan by causing it to spin too rapidly, most air dusters pack quite a punch. To be safe, you'll need to hold the fan in place somehow.
-
Great guide!
A cowrker gave me his M55 to try & repair.
His wife left it by a window & it rained on the notebook.
It was off, but was plugged in.
He left it off for about a month to let it dry out but now the notebook "powers up" for one second or so after the on button is pressed, then it shuts right off.
I hope I find lots of "rust" & debris to clean on the MB when I get the notebook apart. -
Since it was a month already, most likely you will find the badly corroded PCB circuits, and no cleaning will help. You must clean it *immediately* after the liquid leakage, before corrosion kicks up.
-
Found no corrosion at all!
There were waterspots on the protective clear sheets, nothing else. -
