Any idea on how to locate the CMOS battery for the Satellite A215-S7444? I'm trying to reset the BIOS thanks.

Sorry were not aloud to discuss how to get round bios passwords on this forum.
-
I never mentioned anything about a password. I'm simply trying to locate the CMOS battery in order to reset the BIOS because there is an error with regards to certain toshiba laptop that are using an old BIOS version:

Go here and look for your model and some references as how to take the machine apart. The CMOS battery is either under the keyboard or underneath the wireless card.

Post back some pics for the next members. Good lucks.

I've got a question, hopefully you guys can offer some advice.
I've had a Toshiba Satellite for about 3-4 years now and performance has dropped over the years. About 2 years ago, it started to sound like a lawnmower. I figured it must have been damaged while traveling. The sound has gotten considerable worse to the point to where I hardly use it.
I recently had to upgrade my anti-virus software and since then the performance has extremely fallen off. My programs don't respond, shutting down takes 10 minutes, etc. Sometimes the computer shuts down on its own when it seems like it is being "overworked".
So I decided to break out my recovery disk and start from scratch. Maybe it would at least hold me over until I decide on if I want to get a new one. About 15 minutes into the recovery process, it shuts down. So now I'm stuck because the computer already erased everything but I also can't do the recovery because everytime, the computer shuts down.
My question is, should I take the computer somewhere to maybe get the motor fixed and start from scratch again hoping everything works out or should I just get a new laptop altogether.
Thanks for reading and I appreciate any suggestions. -
hi i own an satellite m100 can i upgrade to more than 2gb of ram??? the manufacturer says its upgradable to 2gb.. thanks
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
If you m100 has 2 memory slot it should be able to take 4gb of memory if you have the latest bios.

IF you haven't gotten it fixed/replaced you might consider taking care of it yourself. It sounds like the fan is failing and fixing this is not terribly difficult and is pretty cheap. New fans will run you ~$20 depending on your specific model on eBay and while you are in there you could blow out the four years of dust that has undoubtedly accumulated around your heatsink.
-
Why do you need to reset the CMOS battery? Do you mean replace the CMOS battery cuz it got borked in a failed recovery or what?
-
Hello All , Newbie / Oldie here . Hope I'm posting in the right place ?
My Wife just picked up a cheap Toshiba Laptop . An A 10 Satellite & it has
a cracked screen . Are they hard to replace ? I've worked on watches since 1965 & I've got plenty of patience . Your guidance would be appreciated .
Thanks heaps from Ken . -
Piece of cake Ken, there are plenty of guides out there for replacing notebook screens.

Ok, so I've been checking out the how-tos that cj2600 has at irisvista.com... I'm using a Satellite A215 and I find it curious that mine does not conform to either of the A215s shown on that site. It is similar to one of them, but it's a small matter.
I partially took my A215 apart in order to clean the keyboard. Now the keyboard doesn't want to work correctly! I found that I had not completely connected the ribbon cable. I paid more attention this time and connected it fully. So, now everything except the keys "ZAQ1" seems to work.
To make it worse, I've enabled the startup BIOS password which contains a character from the ZAQ1 column (as does my os password)! I'm having to use an external keyboard! Does anyone have any advice? Should I just buy a new keyboard? -
yes, keyboards are reasonably cheap and easy to replace. you can get a new one for about $30.
-
Hmm.. weird, I followed the guide to disassemble my Toshiba X305, and I'm having the same problem as you, except it's different keys that aren't working.
What would you guys suggest to fix this problem?
I mean my keyboard was working fine before I don't see how it could be broken now. -
I think that would be fantastic. Will it cover all Toshiba models? just bought my first Toshiba (satellite s6964) i am very pleased with it. Owned probably a dozens laptops over the years and i know they are expenses to work on, especially if you have to send it back to the factory. Cheaper to buy a new one. I would willing to help with the expense:

Thank You. You took a scared technoob and led him through the process of upgrading the memory of his ancient 1905-S301.

Hi Guys, @%#^&*$ SCREWS!
I'm trying to fix the broken DC Jack on my Toshiba A65 and am having trouble getting all the screws out of the back of the case. Especially the ones hidden by the DVD drive and the ones in the battery compartment. I got a couple of them out and one seemed to be coated with blue loctite. I sprayed a little penetrating oil on them, but that didn't help. I also tapped lightly on the screwdriver with a hammer to help loosen the screws, but that didn't help either. Any ideas? If all else fails, I suppose I could drill out the screw heads, and then, once it's apart, maybe I could get a vise grip on the remaining threads to get the screws out (if not, maybe a dab of hot glue when reassembling). Thanks, John -
Question:
I took my A135-4645 (BestBuy special low end) apart to replace the Celeron with a Core Duo (now much faster and quieter). Thanks cj2600!
After I put it all together I noticed that the wireless switch (front left of computer) does not slide. The wireless is on, and the switch lever is on the left.
I'd hate to spend another hour in complete disassembly for diagnosing the issue, and find that the cause is not bad assembly.
Can someone say, is it likely that somehow when I put the motherboard back on the base the switch did not get seated correctly? Or, is the switch lever part of the switch and there is no way to get it mechanically obstructed? -
Hi. I need some serious help. I got Satellite 1620CDS and there's some problems with power connection and battery. I already did a thread of it to the Toshiba laptops but I don't know how to disassemble this at all...
-
Is there a chance you could show us how to disassemble a T115D-S1125? I would like to know how difficult it is to switch out the PCI card.
-
I'd be curious to see a T135D disassembly guide as well unless it is pretty much the same as the T115D...
-
nice job sir you did a good job.....good sharing to all.
-
Sorry to bump this, but a thank you is in order.
With the help of these guides, I was able to upgrade my processor (and a 2.2 Turion beats a 1.8 Athlon any day), and it's amazing what's inside these machines.
After taking on this task, I must say that while a desktop has customization options and generally has more power (or the option for more power), a laptop is infinitely more interesting when it comes to assembly.
Amazing what they can fit in such a small case, anymore.
I also learned a great deal about my laptop's motherboard, such as it had the capability for HD DVD decoding, but they stripped the mini PCIe port that held it, among other things. (Makes me wonder, could they be soldered on?)
So, not only was this guide helpful, but it became a great learning experience, thank you for your time and efforts. -
I, too am interested in just such a guide. I am awaiting the delivery of my T115. I'd love to learn how to properly tear this little rocket down. Hopefully there is a wireless-N solution for this PC on the horizon? If not - USB solutions abound...

Go down to the bottom and see the thread; Toshiba T115D-AMD/HD3200, go to page 22 and NY1790 gives details on how he replaced his WLAN with an N card. His directions are easy to follow, however, I would like more pictures and details. Hope this helps. -
I have a broken M115-S3104. There was some liquid spilled and now the volume dial and the wifi do not work. Is there anyone who has an old Toshiba Satellite M115-S3104
Model no. PSMB0U-011007 that wants to sell for parts? I think the motherboard is broken on mine.
Thanks -
Hi
I have Toshiba-Qosmio F45-AV411, it used to have bios version 1.10, so I updated it to 1.90, the problem is that it didn't have a password on the BIOS setup but after the update it asked me for password.
can you help me to reset the password?
I've tried to short and remove the battery before I read your article, but no way.
can you help me?
Thank you in advance -
I am curious about that why you can promote your website here? Why didn't the administrator spam them? When I put more links (5 or 6), the administrator spammed my accounts...

Hi there CJ2600,
Do you know how to get the cover off a Satellite E205? I am trying to replace the hard drive on mine. Thx

Did you have any luck finding a Disassemble Guide for the Toshiba Satellite A110.
I am looking for this guide myself.

My father-in-law just bought a Satellite C650 laptop here in Canada. I really hate the extra key on the Canadian keyboards by the left shift key. If I were to get a US English keyboard and swap it out, would it just be plug and play? Or would that extra key that was missing now cause an issue?

Hi all... I've looked into the first post link and did not see a disassembly guide for Qosmio F55.
I have a Qosmio F55-Q5021 at home. Its been overheating since last month and I need to open it up for cleaning.
Please help. If anyone could give me a link to a disassembly guide for my laptop that would be much much of appreciated. I'm looking for it myself as well...
Thanks in advance. -
hi i cant find anywhere a disassemble manual for my EQUIUM P200-178 anyone could help?
-
Here is a direct link to the X500 service manuel if anyone needs it:

Maybe print it out if you need it, before it disappears again. -
Thanks Scanner! That's twice I owe you!

My Qosmio X505 Q850 kept getting nasty video blackout from time to time. I heard from other users that this is due to overheating. Some nights ago, I smelled something unusually hot from the laptop so last night I decided to disassemble it.
Here is what I find:
#1 Disassembly is not easy compared to Alienware M15x. It took me 3 hours to disassemble/assemble because I missed some connectors.
#2 There was a DUST BALL blocking a considerable part of the copper heat sink. No doubt its degraded the heat dissipation capacity.
I concluded that if the reason for Disassembly was to clean the fan and copper radiator heat sink, dont bother disassembling. I suggest a simple method of doing so:
Use a VACUMM cleaner sucking the FAN ENTRY VENT (circle vents under the laptop), while using COMPRESSED AIR (air can or compressor) to blow the dust from the copper sink by blowing from the rear EXHAUST VENTS. Of course do this with the laptop OFF. -
Can anybody tell me How to get to the Fans inside the Qosmio X505-875 from start to finish.
Would I need to take out the keyboard or do I just need to just take out all the screws on the back and remove the back cover. I already downloaded the Service Manual for the 500 series but it doesn't really help on the disassembly part.
I have already vacuumed and blew compressed air on the back of laptop but I need to go deeper into the laptop in order to clean all dust that's lingering inside my laptop.
I need to clean all the fan because of over heating problems that have recently occurred.
Any help or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. -
If you are using this manual:
http://tim.id.au/laptops/toshiba/qosmio x500.pdf
Then you should not have any problems finding any and everything in the notebook. I used that manual to take apart my 505-898 and upgrade my CPU to the 940xm. But, to deal with your question, you have to remove all the screws onthe bottom of the lappy, then flip it over and remove the keyboard and then the face plate under the key board. Carefully disconnect all the fasteners, remove the LCD screen. Flip the lappy back over and disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Then when all this is done lift up the mother board, and then you have access to the fans, video card, and cpu. I think the Qosimos 500-505 series are basically laid out the same.
Good Luck -
anyone can help me with opening my equium p200-178?

Hey guys,
i have Toshiba Qosmio X505. The left fan (CPU) is making a loud bumpy noise for a few days now. It is especially evident if the fan riles up when im doing heavy stuff. Has anyone encountered this problem? It's really annoying.
Any suggestions on what it might be and what to do with it? thanks! by the way, i've tried the vacuum cleaning stated above, it didn't work. -
Hello, i own a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q893. The left fan (CPU) is making a rattling noise that's becoming rather annoying. I think the fan blade is hitting something inside the laptop though im not sure since i haven't tampered/opened anything and i have also never mishandled/dropped the laptop.
Yes, i tried flushing it with compressed air and used a mini vacuum that has an extended air-tube already just in case, but the sound is still there. Also, It gets a little louder as the fan spins faster.
The temperatures however of the CPU (and GPU) are unchanged. Still maintaining cool temps from when it was bought (averaging from 45' to 48'). The laptop is only 7 months old, i wouldn't want to send it to the repair center with a 1-2 week repair time just to have it fixed.
Please help. Yes, i am tempted to open it, but would rather avoid it as of the moment.
