Maybe so, but it's better than just using default. You comments are even worse if you wear reading/computer glasses too. Which, at my age now, is a must. But default color with say the 195 series drivers is blinding and off. As an amateur photographer, the difference IS highly noticeable. My chair and computer rarely move that much as well. Pretty "static" seating and computer position. So, every little bit helps.

I never meant that calibration is useless.
What I meant is that you dont need precise calibration with calibrator that much - an approximate manual calibration will be more than enough.
The gamma is about 1.8 almost on every LCD, while all software and internet made with 2.2-2.4 CRT gamma in mind - thus the need primarly to adjust gamma, otherwise everything looks too bright and washed out. -
Red_Dragon I know, thats why i just stick with dell, i am thinking about getting a hp dv7t, its a 17.3 a bit cheaper and finally has a bloody LED screen. Lower graphics card gt 230 but i have a precision m6400 so i don't care with a RGB LED screen. I just idk hp sometimes has problems... Plus i hate the Phoenix bios. But oh well hard to find a good one, even with dell home machines, that's why i prefer business. The only true thing i will be lossing with the hp is the backlit keyboard, but now i have two of them with it so whatever i guess. Plus an 18.4 is bloody huge. lol

I have seen some nice benchmarks from the 250m.
-
I would like to see what kind of overclocking can be done on the 250m.

If i bought this it wouldn't leave my house anyway. I use my FW on the go and its pretty darn light. The DV7t is nice though. -
Hello guys,
I'm in a great doubt whether to buy the Qosmio X505-Q830 (I got the Amazon price of $ 1289.00) and Asus G51J-A1 (got it for $ 1336.00). As the price is very good, I have to buy from Amazon, so the laptop will not be upgraded with IC Thermal Compound.
The Toshiba has the benefit of the BD Combo drive (that I can upgrade the ASUS for only $90). The ASUS has a better video card, screen Full HD and 2 Gb 320 HDD, mouse and gaming backpack. The only problem with Toshiba, in my opinion, it is not Full HD, but for that price, I think that is a beautiful setting.
But I'm too afraid to pick up the ASUS and have problems with temperature, whereas the G51 series has overheating problems. Even the GPU is underclocked.
Geforce GTS 250m´s memory bus is 128-bit, but it´s DDR5. Consumes only 28W and has a performance at the most 10% worse than the GTX 260M. And in the future, probably it can be overclocked. So I think it´s not too bad.
How far is it bad to buy a notebook with a display of 18.4?? The bigger the screen, more powerful must be the video card or who sends it is the resolution?
I'm very indecisive, if someone can give me an opinion, I will appreciate it. -
being it is GDDR5 it doubles the preformance. Its plenty powerful for new games and such.
-
Yeah the dv7t is very nice with that sub woofer lol. Well my xps m1530 is darn light too most of the time. But i have an xps 1340 now so thats my ultraportable but at heart i love big screens! lol I am debating between both of them. I would like to see with my own eyes how well the gts 250 performs.

Its funny i went to Amazon earlier and didnt notice the "amazon" price. I saw the third part sellers price and was thinking man this is expensive. But yeah its a good deal what amazon is charging for it. Im seeing $1350 though not $1290.
Also you mentioned it isn't "Full HD", how so? -
This one has a 1600*900 screen so not full HD but still much better than that 13xx*7xx resolution. I am getting one of these tomorrow. We will see how it performs.
-
Amazon gave me a $60 promotional balance, so the final price: U$ 1289.99.
I placed an order with ASUS G51J-A1 to guarantee the price of U$ 1376.99. I sent an email to Amazon Costumer Service and they gave me a $40 promotional balance. So the final price: $ 1336.99.
Qosmio was already shipped, but I think that I will buy the Asus too. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
You can buy them both and just return the one you dont want.
I COMPLETELY forgot that there was a 1600 x 900 version. I thought they were all 1920. -
Yeah i see that this card is significant and just as powerful as the gtx 260, what makes the card is so special is the gddr5. I want to play gta IV on this machine, i just want an led sheesh, within a year and half ccfl will be eradicated. The powerful gpu and core i7 it will play the game very well. How is the screen anyway? Is it worth to have the sub woofer? I am thinking of getting Harmon Kardon speakers with a sub woofer anyway.
-
X500 has big primary stereo speakers behind proper audio grilles in quite good, unobstructed position (not under your palms ahem X300 ahem).
I have compared X505 sound to HP and even to Toshiba X200 (which also Harman Kardon, but also with subwoofer), and X500 sounds both louder and better quality comparing to both. Take note that this is on W7 built-in HD audio driver though - manufacturer-supplied driver has some wierd EQ or volume leveling active, that manages to make is sound like total crap. I am quite amazed how manufacturers manage to screw brilliant hardware by installing tons of crapware on it. -

Hm, no surprise to hear about the speakers none of my past toshibas ever dissapointed.
-
I certainly hope we can get some real benchmarks in this thread. The X305 thread was really helpful in benchmarks, overclocking profiles, etc. We need someone like Dude55 to really break this thing open and see what it has! I can't afford (yet!) to just buy a few laptops to see what one's better (care to donate whichever one you don't want, Mariomega?) so if someone could be the guinea pig, it helps folks like me make an informed decision.

Processor: 7.0
Memory: 7.3
Aero Graphics: 6.7
Gaming graphics: 6.7 -
Graphic scores are only .1 less than 260M GTX. I just wander how much OC this card can take.
-
-
..
Id love to see some 06 and Vantage runs etc while your at it .. -
Ok i am convinced then, i can't wait to get it going to wait until the holiday season.
-
Yes so it is better too have external speakers which i have, but i will get the hadron karmdon with a sub.
-
Alright i want to know what company is the blu ray drive? Does the blu ray movies work with windows 7? What programs are you using to play them? I have a big problem with my blu ray drive in my xps m1530. Ever since i have used Windows 7, the hardware with my blu ray drive has been very very buggy. I fear that i might have to use vista on a seperate drive to just play blu ray just because manufactuers won't update their products to work with the newest OS. But i am still searching for information.

Thanks for the info Alitunay..
Can you run GPU-Z to see if says GDDR5.. I think there is a few doubters out there so id like to hear it straight..

Hmm im not sure honestly as only ATI cards up to this point have had DDR5..
Maybe try everest ?.. If not maybe do some poking around to see how the ATI guys are able to read the memory off there desktop cards..
Would NST(Nvidia sytem tools) show the memory info maybe ?.
Wish i could be more help .. -
Everest didn't help either. But looking at the results actuallt 3dmark06 vise it is par with 260m GTX in the M15X. I am just trying to find Vantage scores from M15x now.
-
Well i was almost certain the card had to be DDR5 but then i saw the 18.4 inch Acer which is very similar in every aspect to the X505 except its running a 250m with DDR3.. So the confusion began .. Up until then i didnt think Nvidia announced a 250m with DDR3..
Another way i thought to confirm it would be the fact the card supports DX10.1 but i see that screen shot of yours and it does not show what DX the card supports lol.. Back to square one... -
I was looking at Sleey's M15X benches and it looks like he was getting 4.8K Vantage out of the box where this one is getting 4.5K. Either the 250M GTS is really close to 260M GTX or the difference in GDDR# and GDDR5 is making up for the difference. Anyways, I am happy with what I have so far.
-
Yeah based on the numbers you have put up i am almost certain its DDR5.. The new 260m thats coming out with DDR5 was supposed to be like 1% faster or slower then the current one but these cards are 128 bit not 256 so the memory speed is making them very fast...
Either way seems like a solid machine and more so for the $$...
Do these have backlit keyboards btw ?. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
...Did you put one of your SSD's in this notebook? If so that would be awesome.
-
Ordered mine a few hours ago... looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Total NITS of Qosmio X505-Q850 model??
-
SiSandra says DDR5 memory for graphics. Also the posted numbers
Processor: 7.0
Memory: 7.3
Aero Graphics: 6.7
Gaming graphics: 6.7
are plus/minus 0.1 from mine. -

Does it run hot when gaming?

Guys I need to know if the "standard limited warranty" includes international coverage and what exactly is "limited". Believe me Iam searching for the answer since days but just couldn't get a clear answer.
Any info regarding this will be a great help. -

Thats funny considering im an FX owner and considering this. -
Yeah i watched that video earlier today..
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah i really like the keyboard on this.
Im glad because i was never really felling that glossy Toshiba crap. -
-
Umm, the keyboard on X500 is still glossy, less tactile and much flatter then one on X200/P200
Yes, its backlit now, but I don't like it that much. -
Have there been any Crysis benchmarks?
-
New to the forum. Just bought this beast! I'm pretty stoked. Should arrive in 2 days. I'm replacing a 3 yr old desktop (Intel Core 2 6600, 2.4Ghz 2gb RAM and 2x320 Raid 0, ATI Radeon x1300).
Never owned a lappy for pleasure before, owned a whole bunch for work though, IBM back in the day, and mostly Dells (Latitudes) recently. The Dells feel flimsy yet are durable (I've banged mine around a lot), but seem poor on other merits, like screen quality etc.
Anyhow, will be doing a lot of HD video editing, storing and network media streaming which is why this beast appealed to me in the first place.
Cheers! -
