Not to be rude by any means, but perhaps for posting space, you would be so kind as to condense instead of reposting over and over again in a different block. Just a suggestion...

I will have it soon(3 days) my friend, but I will still hang around in this forum to help...as I always have. Alas it is time to max out a new system. Finally I found one that is aimed at me(high-end, beautiful, and user-upgradable). It seems to me, that if Toshi would support it's entusiasts better, more enthusiasts would buy.

I am buying from XoticPC, and no I'll wait on the Clevo refresh. I'll wait for the i7 refresh first. I forsee some growing pains, especially in bringing a brand new desktop architecture to the mobile front. As for the whitebook, I'm sure I will be very happy with it, and in the future, when the new G280 comes out, I'm sure XoticPC, will offer their own compatible version, as they do with all videocards. I'm waiting for the Mobility HD4850/HD4870s to come out, then I'll crossfire them too, and get rid of the stock HD3870s. Thats one reason I wanted the Whitebook, I tried to use Toshiba to upgrade, and all they did was tell me how impossible it was, I asked the Toshiba tech support guy if the 9800M GTS was a dual card configuration, and he didnt know enough about his own supported product to tell me the truth. I'm tired of getting the run around when trying to upgrade. I would rather invest my hard-earned money in a company that appreciates it by offering me the functionality that I pay for.

straight for that one. In some ways I regret getting the Toshiba...I really would like to have dished out 'round 3k for a Whitebook or the D900F...I probably would spend more cause its so tempting to upgrade...but I definitely would get those. Upgradeability, knowledgeable support, overclocking...yeah this Toshiba is really a caged animal, and Toshiba is keeping it that way. It should be free, with upgrades and overclocking.
    But I'd probably wait for the D900F, get the 3.2ghz i7, dual 280's 3, 500gb 7200 in raid 0, 8gb 1333mhz ram...id break the 20k 3dmark 06 barrier.

By the way, I got my score to 8590 from 8426...I think I could manage 9000....without upgrades...but have you tried running 3dmark 06 in safe mode? would that yield better results?

I tried it in safe mode, and it would not access the drivers for the videocard, so advanced performance is unavailable in safe mode.

Anybody try new BIOS v1.80? It says it can run in x64. I'm updating an older X105 and it shows an unknown device in device manager. I was told to try the password utility and it would solv it but it says serial number not corrrect or something. Is this because I installed Vista Enterprise x64 SP1 on my own?

Did anybody experience this when fresh installing to the X305 w/ a clean Vista x64 install?

"Intel Robson Technology Driver for Windows Vista (32/64bit)" I find this on Toshibas site for the Q705, yet I some on here say that our Toshiba X305/X300 do not support Intel Turbo Ram. We have the slot so is it enabled if we run this driver?

Yeah, I had the same concern about resolution and not being able to get an image when clicking to enlarge. When I right clicked and saved as background it was fine. I did have to go to personalize/desktop background/click on the "how picture should be positioned" and it is fine on my screen. There is no pixellation or anything. Also, quote from Qosmio X300's link, "these were hard to get. only way is to save them as soon as a recovery is done. once you change your theme the will vanish". Does this mean that after a full recovery, and when Windows first starts and asks to select a desktop background they are there? And if you do not save them immediately they will be deleted?

Toshibadirect has the X305-Q715 listed for $1650, but I am pretty sure you can ask for a quote from a sales rep and maybe get that down close to the $1300. I was quoted $1750 for the Q706 model that lists for $2000.

    Hi

I just won the toshiba qosmio 305 11w from Ubisoft Far Cry 2 contest and it just arrived from the UK. I was wondering if Matt or anyone else can link me to the specs so I can list it on Ebay. It would be nice to keep but my desktop with a intel i7 and nvidia GTX 295 in SLI is all the gaming rig I need and can sure use the money. I could buy the adapter and get the specs from the rig but it worth more sealed. Can any one link me with the full specs...googling hasn't helped! thanks in advance.

I right clicked on the largest viewable images and saved to pictures gallery. If I zoom the images in pictures gallery they are jagged and pixellated. If I right click and save as desktop background, they are fine. Strange huh?

You dont need a UK to USA adapter, just need the cord that comes from the adapter to the wall to be the USA version. I have an extra cord because I dropped my first adapter and damaged it. Toshiba sent me another, now have two.

Where would I get the USA version of the cord that would be cheaper than the $3.95 adapter? That would be convient to have if I take it with me anywhere and was planning on keeping it. I'm thinking using the money to upgrade my DP with the new Intel i7 and a couple of Nvidia's 295 GTX.

    Conclusion:
Much like in the preview of the GTX 295 its performance on the I7 platform is just phenomenal. It far outstrips the performance of the HD4870x2 and Core I7. The performance is so far superior in all but two benchmarks that it just makes sense to go with the GTX 295. One thing that I had concerns about but could not speak about in the preview was the temperatures that the GTX 295 delivered under load. Sandwiching two GT 200 GPUs on a dual slot cooling solution could be a recipe for disaster but Nvidia has pulled off the cooling of the GTX 295 using a heatpipe based solution. Under load with the drivers manually controlling the fan the temperatures never got out of hand at 74 Celsius. When the fan speeds are manually controlled the temperatures were even better at 65 Celsius. Price wise the GTX 295 and HD4870x2 are swimming in the same pond and are in the $500 range. But couple in the superior performance and cost really does not become a concern. If you absolutely want the best card out then the GTX 295 is it when running the latest games. Its only weakness is the 3Dmark 06 testing. This could be remedied with something as simple as a driver update. Couple this card with a second GTX 295 and Nvidia's 3D Vision and you have a gaming rig that just wont be topped. I never thought that one card could provide this level of performance.

It looks like the X300/X305's each have only one single fan, at least for sure on the single GPU Intel versions. Couldn't say for the SLI nVidia counterparts. Maybe somebody w/ SLI can say for sure. Certainly, there is room for another fan of the same type. And if you use the squirl cage design I mentioned earlier, it wil fit and mate up w/ the intake vent just fine. as well as the bottom of the 2nd GPU

Any news on the pll of the X300s/305s????

2.0 ghz really doesn't cut it. And I think it might be bottlenecking in games like CSS and Left 4 dead. I have a 9700M GTS :(

Sorry new to the forums :p

I have a guess for the Pll though:

Motherboard question? Other then a few fps in gaming, and lots of loss of battery life, how well does the nVidia chipset based mobo do compared to the one installed in the Q705/Q701? The Everest RAM Bench scores are not as great as I had expected for DDR3 @ 1066. Can I OC my 1333 RAM back up to rated spd on the nVidia mobo? Can I OC CPU and or RAM w/o GPU?

Thanks for the great info guys!

I just picked up a X305-Q701 today at Best Buy and I noticed that the machine will run silent for 5~10 seconds... then the fan will kick in for 2~5 seconds before shutting off. This happens when I am just browsing the net and not doing a whole lot that demands much performance.

Why is it doing that, is that normal? I ask because when the fan is on, it's pretty darn noisy.

    Thanks,

    Raymond

This is both normal for the Toshiba as wel as Intel Fan controller to CPU core temp. The CPU cooler is half the size of the GPU and is only aluminum finned so it is gonna heat up a tad quicker then previous models w/ copper of the same size, as well as take a few moments longer to cool back down.

On our notebooks, I think the GPU temp may also add to the fan speed kick up as temp slowly build.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that the fan kicks up because of the GPU heating up (I am looking at the Hardware Monitor). Anything I can do to help the GPU stay cool (when I am not doing anything requiring much GPU power)?

Any way to control the fan(s)? I'd much rather have a steady low hum than "silence... then LOUD... then silence..."

Thank you again for your help.

new updates for x305 at Toshiba site. More importantly Bios 1.09, I think and nvidia driver 176.89, which outperforms nvidias mobile driver 179.28 by 200+ points in 3dmark06. I went from 7488 with 179.28 to 7695 with 176.89, with no overclocking. Also DVD update and more. Check it out.

Thanks man, I checked them out and I got a few of them downloading....

And as for keeping the temperatures lower check the first page of my guide...
i mention the undervolting guide, the nzxt cryo lx notebook cooler, underclocking the gpu, etc..

and yes, change your memory timings with memset...the timings in my sig are the absolute lowest u can go without a blue screen. 15 might be too low even so try 16 first.
