Ok well finally my X305 Q720 has arrived! I am a happy camper now :) Unfortunately mine was full of errors when it arrived. I got BSOD right out of the box and it continued to haunt me all night till I managed to upgrade the BIOS. I was also saving up my Razor Lycosa Mirror and Copperhead for this pc so they finally saw some light. Again, unfortunately the "z" key on my lycosa just popped out and the tiny clips broke so its just hanging in its tiny hole not hooked to the keyboard :S
It was frustrating not to find any reviews anywhere for this particular model but I can confirm that this is a great machine. I do a lot of Photoshop and the quadcore really shines here. Games look great as well. Ill be doing some benchmarks soon and will let everyone know how it comes along.

I have a 9800m gts. And a nice FM radio too :D Actually I had no idea it had an fm tuner as well but it was a nice surprise and works great with the small antenna.

No you cannot add 2 9800's to the X300 due to the lack of an nvidia chipset. Also the 9800m gts is around $500 so 2 will cost you $1000. upgrading is really a nightmare. Anyway you need the SLI ribbon cable.

ok i understand the 9800gts is exspensive is there a big diffrence from the 9700gts? also im just a tad confused on your reply you mentioned i cant add 2 9800gts cause of lack of nvidia chipset but then you mention i need the sli ribbon cable? so im assumeing its still a no on the sli cards on my x300-02k?

I was watching in BIOS v.1.60 today, here are every missed OC options we need in “Strings” but I’m not sure if it is working right and all properties were just removed from “Setup table”. We just lost “Advanced chipset features” tab with all OC properties me thinks. So anyone knows any good programmer who can confidently look into BIOS, or someone from Toshiba who can give us a first not cut BIOS version?

Ah, I use GPU-Z for temps. The 185.85 DOX is running 7C higher for me. My max temp is 87C at normal. But don't know why, I got up to 97C without overclock last week-end... But I will try'em out. How is Windows7 now? Does your bluetooth stack work? I had troble with it... :(

I guess my bluetooth stack is working ok on 7, my logitech mouse works but it could be microsofts drivers because I can disable bluetooth area network in network and sharing center and the mouse still works. btw, I would go ahead and get the hard drive now, don't think prices will come down much from where they are. The 320gb 7200's are what $40?

Still get the best framrates for Farcry2 with Toshiba display drivers 176.49. I would think that newer drivers would produce better results but that is not the case. i do get better results with Crysis and 3dmark06/Vantage with certain other drivers but not Farcry2.

The touch panel buttons dosn't work with the new Windows7 build any more!

The sound driver dosn't work... (But you ofcourse still have sound becouse win7 detect it self, but maybe it can be a problem if you use HDMI ect.)

I originally had a problem with sound drivers with 7 and changed the settings by right clicking on the audio icon selecting playback devices, highlight speakers(realtec high definition audio device), advanced, 24 bit 192000 hz to get the sound to play. I eventually re-installed the audio drivers from Toshibas site a couple times and now the audio works flawlessly. i like 7, not having many issues.

Finally got my SSD in my Qosmio. For people who have the top spec machines QX9300 etc it really really makes the whole machine a lot nicer.

I got the OCZ Vertex, booting takes 20 seconds from power on till every little app in the systray open.

i also got the dolby control center working. i got the realtek off of their site i think, bluetooth is working, flashcards, bios update, nvidia control panel ( i hate the new one with the dual view, its so confusing and doesnt work right)

ive only had one problem with my laptop, and im getting it fixed next week after school ends. my screen on the left side, where the plastic curves to meet the outside cover, the supports are slipping, so if there is any pressure on the lid, the left side pops out a little bit, and i just have to lightly push on it to get it back in.

i bring my laptop to school everyday and use photoshop, but i just got a rocket mobile internet stick from rogers, so i get internet anywhere. in the middle of my religion class, i bust out my laptop and start killing people in cod4 online, no lag at all on 3.5G internet i have a crowd of 5 people around me, m16 ftw :)

and jw wats the newest and best drivers for 9700M GTS?

Alright. I am having trouble with my Q720 already. BSOD random without any warnings. The system was unable to narrow the problem down. tested it with a huge number of hardware diagnostics (prime95, memtest etc) but no issues were found. Tried clean installing the OS twice also didn't help.
But what I did find out was that one of the memory modules is bad. The laptop works great with one 2gb module in both the slots. the moment I try the bad module it gives BSOD with the upper slot and makes the OS unstable (errors popping every now and then) with the lower one. I am kinda surprised that such a thing would happen on a brand new laptop. Obviously Toshiba has quality control issues. Anyway, I have ordered new RAM and would test it today. I certainly hope I have pin pointed the problem correctly cuz this is very frustrating.

Anybody else having the same problems??

Sorry about not reading all the post but the 3 or 4 i seen , gives the 305 a bad buy. I am going read the post now.

    Well this is my problem,

Looking to spend around $ 2,500 or less on a good laptop, need ideas. Not worried about overclocking as this will be my entertainment at work for such as videos and game playing.

Wondering if Toshiba's X305-Q706 laptop has the same problem with the motherboard/charging problem as the older units. I have 2 older Satellite p25-s507's and they both broke at the exact same spot. Seems like the motherboard cracks around the plug in which does not allow to charge the system. I have tried to take apart both of them and now i have pieces all over the place. I did some research and seen lot of other people having problems with the cracked motherboard. (so it not from something i did)

I am thinking about getting a new Toshiba's X305-Q706 this week so would like to see if anyone has had this problem before or is there a better laptop i can get that has to have 17" screen , lot of graphic ram,.

Want it to last a few years. My P25-s507 lasted about 6 or 7 years (only has 32video ram ) lol it kills me. I could not play games. When i build my quad core desktop with 3 g-force 9800 video cards it can play every game possible . GTA4 , Scared, everything plays at max settings and never seen my system processor get used up half way.

    Hello everyone,

I've spend the last couple days reading all 130 pages here when I've had a free moment, and all I can say is WOW! Thanks for all the great tips, info, and feedback, its great to know there is a place I can go to talk about X300/X305s with other owners.

I've got a Canadian X300-033019. For starters, what is this the equivalent of out of the American X305 models? Mine has the P8400 CPU, and 9700M GTS.

I'd like to ask a simple question, hopefully I receive a simple answer! I've plugged my laptop into my Samsung LCD through the HDMI port. Video works fine. HDMI also carries sound though. The Dolby Home Theatre settings has 2 options, 1 for stereo speakers, and one for Digital output HDMI. I am unable to get the sound to come out of my TV though, it always comes out of the laptop speakers, despite the Dolby settings. Does our HDMI port only work for video? I can run sound out of the audio jack without problems. The TV is fine, it receives sound through HDMI from other sources.

    Thanks!

    Shaun

    @ nakedshorts;

if i was going to spend 2500$ on a laptop, i would definitly order a sager laptop. they have 9800's anf they look really good.

i like my toshiba, but i probably wouldnt buy it again, not worth the money for what its got.

9700M GTS and 2.0ghz p7350 isnt worth the 1900$ i spent. i havent had any problems with my laptop really, but id take the p9500 and 9800 gts/x over it.

I have connected my X300-13o to tv trugh HDMI only one time and yes I got also sound only from laptop speakers. I'm not sure why, I it was only for test so I didn't try to slove the problem. :)

Now that was a simple answer, take a look at sound settings. I mean from realtek control panel. There should bee HDMI option there. If any things come up feel free to ask :)

    tuηay,

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, I thought it was pretty silly that it wasn't working, or thought I may have a hardware issue.

I'll continue digging and testing before I rule out sound out of the HDMI connection.

ive used my hdmi alot, and have gotten sound working. i had to go to the sound options, disable the laptop speakers and enable hdmi out. - go to bottom right, right click the speaker symbol, go to sounds, playback, then disable laptop speakers and enable hdmi

Did you end up finding a solution to this? I've updating my nvidia drivers to 186.03 and I am getting the same issue now.

Update: I rolled back to my old Nvidia drivers, and am able to use both displays again, no more black screen that requires a reboot. Weird.
