Has anyone tried running a S.M.A.R.T. disk monitor on their X305-q708?

I've tried diskcheckup2.1 and speedfan4.38 but none them can see my Toshiba 128G SSD or the Hitachi 320GB-7200 drives.

Under device manager they appear as SCSI drives, but then they are connected to the Nvidia SATA controllers...

CPUZ-hwmonitor can't see their temperature either...

I'll try notebook hardware control (nhc) next ... any recommendation for SMART monitoring software?

    thanks

The HDMI didn't work with the 190 edition beta drivers from guru3d, so i tried again, just for a laugh, the drivers that were supplied.
Im not sure how this happened, but i have now the Hdmi working properly, with both the laptop screen and my lcd monitor. Although it doesnt find the native resolution of my monitor.
It was a combination of tring the different settings in nvidia display panel and also windows graphics adapter settings( extend onto desktop).

When i first pluged it in, it didnt do the usual thing of going staight to black screen. I got the pop up screen where you could choose a presentation mode which id not been able to click before. I tried yes to see what that would do and I got the clone mode. I then tried in nvidia panel to select set screens independantly which gave me the black screens I waited the set time it takes while it askes you if you want to keep the new resolution to get the clone mode back. I clicked the presentation icon, that was now in the program bar, and switched presentation mode off. I then tried selecting just the lcd monitor which worked so I then went into windows display seeting page and selected to extend onto the laptop lcd which worked. So I now have both working usuing the HDMI although not at native resolution, on the external mointor.

    Sound works too!!!!

But guys to be honest there is not much quality difference, that I can tell using the HDMI, not tried dvd's yet so will let you know. So those who cant get it working I wouldnt worry too much.

Try fiddling between the windows display properties and the nvidia panel and watch out for the presentation panel that pops up.

People might be having problems if the graphics card in the laptop can only handle certain resolutions through HDMI and the external displays have a differnent higher resolution. So im not quite sure why it has now decided not to find my native resolution. But its working for now. Probs when i get home tonight and switch it back on it will be different, and as stupid as that sounds it happens alot i can tell you. Im sick of having to put my icons back where i want them or reseting the resolution.

So good luck, have another go then if no luck just give up lol.
But to me, thats proof that it is the drivers that are causing the problems. Which is a disgrace if all the new drivers that have come out non of them sort the HDMI out. If they are not going to get a new driver that works then they should be paying for everyone to get a HDMI to DVI converter as they have drivers that don't do what they should and renders our devices faulty.

    Right, over and out.

Still looking through some of these pages.. holy crap im gonna be here all night x.X

I checked the start with the dismantling but i'm a little confused on fast and the easiest way to the CPU would be which is why im Asking. I'm tempted to overclock but idk if i should, i dont wanna screw it up even thou i have a 3yr warranty.

Hi, I just dual boot Win 7 RC 64 bit...on my hybrid SLI (vista 32bit).
Is that anyway to disable share graphic memory? The video cards take about 1.8Gb of my system memory, so I have only 1.8 GB available for my Win 7 or Vista. Because of that, I cant see any improvement in between both system.

The problem is that you are using a 32 bit operating system with a hybrid SLI machine. I am using 64 bit as Toshiba has strongly suggested using and am only sharing 256mb of system ram for the 9400m g.

"The Qosmio® X305 with nVIDIA SLI® graphics ships with a 64-bit version of the Windows Vista® operating system. If you should elect to recover your system to a 32-bit version
from the recovery media or from your hard disk drive, note that over 2GB of your computer’s system memory will not be accessible due to use of the main system memory by the
graphics system for graphics performance and limitations of the 32-bit operating system."

That's why I have installed win 7 RC 64 bit in my seond HDD (dual boot) and the result is the same.
May be i should re-install my graphic card driver??

That new SATA driver doesn't give me S.M.A.R.T. either and neither CPUID HWMonitor nor Nvidia System Monitor will give me disk temps and SMART counters.

However, a kind person on the NVidia MOBO/Hardware forum pointed me to CrystalDiskInfo at http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en.

This stand-alone program works great... :) gives me temperature and all SMART details and counters on both disks I have... it must have bypassed the nVidia SATA driver and done some low-level programming direct to the disks to get at it....

Now I will pass this info to CPUID see if they can fix this in the next version HWMonitor.

Has anyone had any luck installing the new Windows 7 display drivers from Toshiba's site for the X305-Q706's and 708's? I was going to test them out but the setup will not run. I clicked setup from the folder and says no compatable hardware. Saved a modded inf from lv2go but they still would not install.

It is the Toshiba value added package for windows 7 that is supposed to make the touch buttons work but all it did for me was turn on the lights with no ability to turn them off. I uninstalled TVAP and turned off the lights from Vista and they stayed off when I rebooted into 7. I don't relly care about the touch buttons anyway but would install the software if it worked. Let me know if the drivers work for you.

i use the flash cards, but not with the fn keys. i just highlight it with my mouse.

with the touch sensitive buttons it works for me. im able to turn them on and off, use them in itunes etc, dolby, media player.

    touhpad works, config free.

the only thing that doesnt work is the fn keys, but i dont need them because i highlight the flashcards with my mouse.

all of my drivers, i just used the vista 64 - bit. if you can find any driver for vista 64 bit, they will work with windows 7 64 - bit. all drivers off of toshiba website were vista 64 bit.

from what ive seen, all vista drivers are compatible with windows 7 ( 32 to 32 and 64 to 64)

Hmm downloaded some of the Vista 64bit drivers. Touch pad still cant be enabled or disabled.. Wonder if its because i wiped out vista and did a fresh windows 7 install.. Guess i'll have to work around for a bit. Not a big loss if it is because i removed vista and didnt upgrade, everything's backed up on discs.

Clean install to my second hard drive. works great, I really like Windows 7 and IE8. IE8 looks great and doesn't seem to be nearly as buggy as it was with Vista. I have build 7100 and AFAIK clean install was the only option. Either way, I always do clean installs of OS's.

im running dualboot of vista/7 64 bit on partitioned HD and i have all things working.

your touchpad might be disabled, install the flash cards (if you dont have them working) then go and enable them to be used with the mouse.

couple things that i dont like and i hope they fix in w7 for this laptop:

-nvidia control panel is a pain with dual monitors
-when switching between my 17" laptop screen and my 22"desktop screen, the icons get all mixed up, and dont line up to the way i had them. it gets annoying
    -fn keys dont work
-IE8 doesnt work on some sites (it times out too fast) so i use firefox
-cant set up mic for games
-support for dual-view in games. w7 doesnt work with dual view games (burnout paradise). i cant get it setup to run on 2 - 3 screens
-cod4 is really buggy (same as in vista) done alot of installs, but after a while, the game crashes
-sometimes my computer cant recognize my external HD, and i have to restart
-fix the windows live program, when u minimize it, you have to click twice just to open it, i dont know why theres 2 windows open when its only 1

id like to be able to mute the sound for the touch sensitive buttons, it blows my eardrums out when listening to music (anyone know how?)

It has come to my attention that the satellite A505-S6965 has an LED backlit keyboard that has the same offset arrow keys and appears similar to the x305 keyboard. I would like to check one out at BB with a tape measure to see if it will fit. I would like a backlit keyboard and generally dislike the appearance of the X305 keyboard.

it looks like the keyboard on my x300, i would love to put a backlit keyboard on my laptop. thats one thing i really wanted on a laptop

i notice a difference with the enter and backspace buttons, but i think thats just because i have a canadian keyboard.

it is a 16", but still looks like the same keyboard.

im going to call tomorrow because i need to get my screen frame replaced, and ill see if they could replace my keyboard with that one, for a price

I hope it is not a glossy keyboard, that is the main thing that I dislike about this one.

if its possible, i have no idea, and i dont know where i could get it done

I can't find the model #'s at sparepartswarehouse.com but the same parts number for the X305 replacement keyboard seems to cross reference with the several other Toshiba models that I checked, none of them were backlit. I am thinking that Those models with backlit keyboards are so new that sparepartswarehouse.com either doesn't have them or has not updated their site yet.
