It would be super easy to replace the keyboard if the backlit one fits. I took mine apart when I first got it using CQ's guide and it only takes about 5 minutes to get at and replace the keyboard.

No, but I wouldn't care if it stayed on all the time. Maybe downloading TVAP for the backlit model would do the trick.

so u dont think there should be any different wires that are needed to power the lights, or to get it to toggle on/off?

im going to see if one of toshiba's repair sites will put it in, if i ask for a new keyboard, i see no reason why they couldnt put a backlit one in if i pay 4 it

Considered the possibility but more concerned about fit and availability right now. I think we can figure out how to make it work with our computers if it matches for size and shape.

    Found a better price for the 9800m gtx--Toshiba VGA Board (Video card), NB9E-GTX, 1G - K000063270. $495

    http://www.impactcomputers.com/k000063270.html

Still not able to find parts for the new Satellites with backlit keyboards.

I would not buy a processor from them--the prices are too high. The qx9300 lists for over $1300 and the p8400 was like double or triple the $195 it can be had for. It was interesting to note that there were 2 screens for the 706's and 8's--an LG and a Samsung. Their could be a problem with attempting to upgrade thr processor and VGA card at the same time. I think there can only be 1 major hardware change between boots. You would have to disassemble/reassemble twice because the BIOS can only recognize 1 hardware change at a time? Or maybe it was Windows?

My upgrades will be, processor, SSD, backlit keyboard if possible and 2x4gb 1066 ram if the prices ever come down to something reasonable. Currently the best price i can find for the correct 4gb module is $345. Waiting for SSd prices to come down also.

Just looked at the new Satellite model with backlit keyboard at BB and it's nice. Press fn-z and it comes on then it goes off by it's self after about 30 sec.'s of inactivity then comes back on after pressing any key. It is between glossy and matte. Looks about the right size and shape but I didn't get a chance to measure it.

I was hoping that the on/off mechanism was self contained within the keyboard electronics. Hopefully there will be no need for additional power, but I doubt that it will be as simple as plug and play.

I never buy extended warranties, seems like manufacturers are betting $150 that you won't be needing that much service over the next year. Even if you do, there is probably a way for them to deny the claim.

Nice 9800M GTX find SGilmore, I added the link to the front page.

Hmm, I am sure that it will be doable. The only issue would be obtaining any software or drivers involved in the backlighting, and making sure the keyboard conforms to the physical dimensions of the x305. Due to the likelihood of both I am sure it is possible.

And yeha I've been away doing a lot of website work, playing sports, just been busy.

Looks like that LED backlit keyboard is a match! gonna call Toshiba tomorrow to see if I can get one.

ok on stock i got about 6800, overclocked i got 7900, then tweaked it and got 8100.

i tried upping it a little more, and near the end of the test my screen kept flashing, so i aborted it.

whats the best video driver to have right now? should i overclock anything else? im running on an external 22" monitor, should i test on my laptop screen?

    thanks

yea i just installed it. i just changed my memory settings in memstat, should i change anything to the cpu?

and is it normal to only have 0 - 1 fps during the cpu tests? i never get more than 1 and its complete lag.

Yeah, thats normal for CPU tests unless you've got an X9100 or overclocked Qx9300. I don't think you can overclock the CPU with that BIOS and chipset can you? I think you can undervolt with CPU genie.

I don't know, could be from memory timings, usually when I've gone past stable with GPU overclocks I get colored speckles on the screen. I don't mess with memory timings, haven't really seen any performance gain from it so I don't risk it. Why risk if theres no reward?

my super overclock, and i mean the max i can do. ive been at this for 4 hrs, and got it down to the exact # where its stable and gets the best score.

    superoverclocked, barely stable:

    GPU: 696/1050/1800
    RAM: 7/6/6/15

    8412 3Dmark06

    super O/C'd, but stable:

    GPU: 695/995/1795
    RAM: 7/6/6/17

    8394 3Dmark06

    stock settings:

    GPU: 530/799/1325
    RAM: 7/7/7/20

    6750 3Dmark06 score

i get a 1662 score jump in 3Dmark06 just by overclocking my gpu and tweaking my ram. if i go to what dude55 gets ( 700/1100/1900) its not stable, and i only get about 15 fps during the first test in 3D 06. with my settings, ill get 63 fps max.

temps didnt go above 55c, but i did have it on my notebook stand with 2 fans to be safe

wondering if i CAN overclock my cpu, testing in vista, and a good cleaning of dust would up my score

def need a cpu upgrade. how much would a p9500 up my score anyone think? a noticable difference?

    edit:

i was playing crysis warhead earlier today and it wasnt playable on anything above low - med, now i can play it all on high, with a couple things toned down (shadows) getting above 20fps, averaging around 30 and max 45 fps. OC'd to 680/980/1795, nothing done to the ram, 1280x800 it is fully playable, no lag to make it unplayable.

running at that overclock in crysis for about 1 1/2 hrs is ok right? it wont shorten the life? i have it on a cooler, temp never going over 55c

yea i got a pm and they asked me to shrink it so i did. i made it less than the 125 height max, so its actually not taking up anymore room than other sigs.

+ its not uploaded, its a pic from photobucket, so im just gonna see what they say.

    1023 x 118

just hope they dont say anything, too much work to change it. actually takes up less room than your sig (height) :)

and jw, but i know my laptop can support up to 3 gpu's, 2 in SLI and 1 hybrid, so is it possible to have a 9800M GTX and a 9700M GTS?

    couple questions:

    1. could i have both a 9700M GTS and a 9800M GTX in my laptop? since i can have 2 in SLI, could u have 2 different models in SLI, or switch between 1 or the other to save battery?

    2. whats more powerful/ a better buy, 2x 9700M GTS in SLI or 1 9800M GTX? also factoring in the price to performance.

    3. if i were to upgrade my cpu/gpu, i would probably sell my p7350 cpu and 9700M GTS, so what sort of price would i get for it?
