Went ahead and ordered the backlighted keyboard, it was $90 shipped. A bit pricey, but worth it for me as I use my Qosmio alot in low light situations and constantly find my self tilting the display down towards the keyboard so that I can squint to see the characters.

Since the A500 Satellite comes with both standard and backlighted keyboards as options, I can't imagine the ribbon connectors being different for backlighted vs. standard. Heres a photo of the ribbon connector for the Qosmio X300/X305:

The Nvidia 190.38 drivers come with an SLI indicator that displays whenever an application is utilizing SLI. The indicator can be toggled on and off at the top left corner of Nvidia control panel by clicking 3D Settings.

Anyone know what a good 250GB HD would be good for this? I know on the page there WAS one on the page that used to link you to a deactivated hd but its now sense been gone. I'm try to figure out what exactly the laptop HD type is so i can get a second one or maybe a bigger first hard drive. 200GB just doesn't cut the cheese...

Was thinking that the HD's are 3.0GB/s SATA HD's but i dont want to get it and have to send it back...

The models with hybrid SLI can be overclocked with Nvidia system tools via raising the front side bus. AFAIK, it is not possible to overclock CPU in any of the other models.

Maybe you could download setfsb? I have not read of any successful overclocking by x300/305 owners.

If you have a Qosmio X-300/305 that has the Nvidia chipset/SLI graphics then you can overclock your CPU with Nvidia system tools. You have an Intel chipset, so unless you can figure out pll and how to use setfsb, then you are out of luck for oc'ing.

Hi, I am new to the forum and is nice to meet you all. I own a Toshiba Qosmio X300-770 and the specs are as follow:

    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    Vista UE (32 Bit)
    4gig ram
    Resolution 1,680 x 1,050
    WD Scorpio Black 320gig x 2 (Without free-fall sensor)
    NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS
    DVD SuperMulti

A carry bag (Brand Bagman) its has Qosmio logo on it. Fits the 17" rig nicely
    1 year Intl' War...
    Etc......

I would like to share some of my experience with you all.

I purchase this Gaming Rig at the 2009 PC convention in Singapore and I purchased it as a Demo Unit and got a 690 USD (discount), the original price for it was priced at around 2500 (USD). So I decide to buy it. It was on demo for only 3 days so what the heck I pull'ed out my credit card and paid for it. When back to the hotel and fired it up and I love the red shining glossy red and black combination.

After I return to canada I decided to fresh install the rig and it works fine as ever. I have follow the advice given from this forum and its working fine till I install the latest Nvidia drivers. Got Blue Screen and crash 3 times after each restart (Well its windows can't complain). Then I decided to fresh install again, got everything up and running, then again window does not boot nor shut down (after I've updated windows etc....) so I unplug the battery and hold down the on/off switch button to shutdown. I was calm and Oh well .............-_-.......... I fresh installed again, during installation the laptop hang and again I start to reinstalled again, after a week of window installation and format. Now my X300 Works like a charm. Haven't had any problem till now (almost 2 weeks now). So to say it give me problems but after some time of clamness >_> it as good as new.

Run COD4 on full (Resolution 1,680 x 1,050 max setting) works fine didnt check Fps. Can only Run Crysis & Warhead on medium setting and on Resolution 1,680 x 1,050. Very happy with it, very smooth. Hard Disk, GPU Temp was about 45C without running any major games. After crysis or COD Hard Disk is about 47 -49 C GPU was about 80 - 90 C depends on room temp.

I will pst some picture later. thxs for reading

Just a post to say goodbye and thanks for the updates and info for this Toshiba model.

My x300-13w is now somewhere else in the UK, Toshiba need to sort their drivers out and allow people who spend £2000 on a laptop to have access to their bios like AW m17x.

Will miss needing the thread though :)

I don't think the backlit keyboard is going to work unless someone knows how to connect the second smaller ribbon cable. You can see from the photo there is just the standard keyboard ribbon cable connector.(circled in blue)

From photos of backlit keyboards for various manufacturers, they all have a second smaller ribbon cable presumably for the LED's. There is no smaller ribbon cable connector on the mobo. Wonder if I could buy the smaller ribbon cable connector and power it elsewhere on the mobo? Any ideas/suggestions?

Hey Thanatospy, can you post some benchmarks for your upgraded Qosmio? I'm interested in getting another processor and was wondering what kind of Vantage/3dmark06 I could expect. thx and btw, been looking at 8gb pc3 8500 sodimm kits and not finding any of them cheap. Most around $700-$800 range.

i just use a large cloth antistatic cloth to put on my keyboard to protect my screen from my keyboard, and it works well.

got it in the store, but heres what it is:

    http://www.klearscreen.com/detail.aspx?ID=9

i use it for everything because no fibres fall off when i use it.

without it i get keyboard key marks on my screen, but they are wiped off easy

No, they said my card would not be billed until it is shipped, and don't think my card has been billed yet. I should call and cancel my order as I'm fairly certain the LED's will not work as there is no connector for the LED ribbon connector.

Hmm there are 2 connectors for the keyboard then?
Depending on how the connector looks, I think there are a few open connections on the motherboard. Do you have a picture?

And by the way, I am really disappointed in every member of this thread.

If there is no dedicated connector for that ribbon cable, I would look at connecting it to one of the cables that powers the red LEDs near the tweeter speakers.

That's if it's a LED power cable, ie.. +5VDC and Ground (red and black). If that's the case it shouldn't be too hard to solder a 2-wire jumper lead to the new keyboard LED ribbon cable.

i dont see any point to upgrade the RAM, or to overclock it, but thats just me. i multitask like mad, play games and do everything else and never use the full 4 gigs. i would def spend the money on a new gpu or cpu first. the ram is probably the best thing in my laptop.

I would upgrade to 8gb of pc3 8500 before going with 4gb of faster ram. The U.S. Toshiba support site reports 4gb limit for Qosmio X305. The Euro Toshiba site reports 8gb ram limit for X300. They are the same machine components and BIOS.

You might consider taking it to a computer repair shop to have it done. Replacing the CPU on the X305 is somewhat difficult--a lot of things can go wrong when disconnecting all of the components to get under the mobo to get at the CPU.

Any of the "socket P" processors will work, just make sure it is socket P.
