does the laptop fit into the sleeve? is it tight and do u think another quarter of an inch will help?

the compartment of the one i want to get is less than 1cm smaller than the laptop (0.99cm)

    thanks

    hey everyone I am back....
seems to me that the keyboard isnt working based on what ive read...
so the only conclusion i can think of is either get BIOS support or power that cable somewhow.
otherwise nice pictures sgilmore...i like the qosmio on the the rocks

thanks for the pictures. since you dont use the sleeve, is there any protection inside the bag for the laptop ( sharp fabric). and how is the strap? i was reading that where it rests on your shoulder its only supported by foam or gel.

im debating on keeping the order and seeing if the laptop can fit. i got the bag on sale, so i might just do that.

if it doesnt fit, i could just send it back and order that one.

    thanks for the pics, rep+

Thanks Dude55, could be a bad keyboard too I guess, wont know till I get a chance to take it somewhere to be checked.

How long do you think before the Qosmio gets a refresh? Notice that there is only one model that comes up on Toshibas site and it has the same specs as the one BB used to sell.

i just fit my laptop into a computer compartment with 16"/10.25"/2" tightly. the one im ordering have the specs 16.5" / 13” / 2.25"

it was pretty tight, but the one im ordering is bigger all around, so im gonna go for it and keep the order

thanks sgilmore for the pics, if i dont like the one im ordering, ill get that one.

Getting a bag of any sort for a 17" is troublesome, but i suppose if you do carry it around lots getting something that suits you is a must. I been using the bagman backpack which came with the x300 and its fit fine (little tight), although I've looking for a quality brand like crumpler but no luck 3 to 4 " to small.

I'm using the 186.05 beta drivers from Toshiba support.

Took a pretty big hit initially in FPS but the eye candies are all there and the longer I use them the better FPS I get.

... Is the Qosmio Gaming laptops exiting from Toshiba's Laptop lineup?

    http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/qosmio/X305

Or are they going to be introducing new ones soon?

(Despite the MSI mention in my sig, I'm still looking for a gaming laptop from other companies)

Cant really answer with anything but speculation but it does appear the Qosmio lineup is winding down

As far as new ones go, I am betting on something with ATI cards. Toshiba seems to have a knack for finding the sweet spot for price points for certain hardware configurations. None of the Qosmios are anywhere near that sweet spot at the present time. There are a number of gaming rigs from other manufacturers that beat the Qosmio in both price and features.

The gaming notebook segment is very competitive and if I were looking to buy a gaming notebook right now, it definitely would not be a Toshiba.

I think the best bang for the buck right now is the Alienware M17 with the dual 4850's. You can get that an X9100, wuxga screen for $2200.

    hi x300/305 owners
soon i will have one to! i got it for $1800 AUD which is about $1550 USD
im not sure of the exact model but it has
    CPU:intel core 2 duo p7350, 2.0GHz
    GPU:9700m gts
    4gb ram
    320gb hard drive @7200 rpm
    etc
im going to upgrade the cpu to 2.5-2.8 ghz and i have a few CPUs in mind
a bit later on I'd like the upgrade the graphics;because i dont have much money im thinking of just getting another 9700m gts and then putting sli on it as its an sli enabled card http://www.nvidia.com/object/hybridsli_notebook.html
    so my questions are
    1. is the pm45 mother board sli compatible? (i assume it is, as other models have sli and from what i know they have the same motherboard)
    2. is there a slot for an extra 9700m gts
    3. can i use hybrid sli with only 2 cards (use one card full time and then the other kicks in when needed or do i need a mgpu)
    3. to put sli on my x300 what extra parts and drivers will i need? (other then the extra card)
4.how much of an improvement will there be with and w/o sli? is it worth it?

thanks in advance for your replies

Didn't have any problem with the camera software did with TVAP. Finally uninstalled reinstalled TVAP for the media buttons to work and finally decided that it wasn't worth having buggy software and a borked registry so uninstalled all of it.

As long as I kept the bogus registry entries media buttons worked--soon as they were deleted they didn't.

I used the Vista x64 touchpad drivers from Toshiba, installed the Alps and Synaptics ones.

@ Red__Dragon Haven't found anything about a new Qosmio, probably waiting for the new i7 processors for the refresh. btw, nice outfit! are you a model?

Lots of good info in this thread ... figured I would join up since I bought an
x300 last November .. I just ordered a second drive for it and was able to locate the correct second HDD bracket both should be arriving soon ... i have two questions about upgrades though and sgilmore62 you seem to have done quite a bit with yours so maybe you can help. The model I bought has a french keyboard and I was wondering what kind of chore it is to switch it out with the standard english one ... and second some of the european models have biometric scanners wedged in between the touch pad buttons .. is there a way to replace the one i have with the touchpad that includes the fingerprint reader ?

my understanding is that basically all of these rigs( x300/305-xxxx) are in the same chassis so i'm guessing the keyboard should be fairly straight forward but the biometrics might need a connector that isn't on my board .... thoughts .. and thanks in advance

The keyboard is easy to replace. There is a little strip of trim above the keyboard that snaps off(carefully) and covers 4 screws. After removing the screws carefully tilt the keyboard toward the screen and you will see the ribbon cable and where it is inserted into the ribbon cable connector. The ribbon cable is released by sliding the connector straight up.

I'm sure a fingerprint reader board could be bought from the parts suppliers too the problem is not sure if the cutout for touch buttons without reader matches cutout for with, have to check.

As far as the connector for fingerprint reader goes it's probably the empty connector that I tried to use for keyboard LED backlight. I even tried installing fingerprint reader drivers to see if it would power the LED's lol.

Hey thanks for the quick turn around and the tip on the keyboard ... i've been trying to lock down exactly which euro models have the reader so that I can figure out which part(s) to order ... there's about 20 different flavors of x300/305 between the direct to consumer and the retail models .. and the parts lists are crazy long too ... that notwithstanding I'll likely need to order the buttons as well as the reader ( i'm hoping it comes as a package and can simply be dropped in )
