ES is "engineering sample" some of them don't have temperature sensors. The difference between OEM and retail is the packaging. With OEM you don't get a box. The engineering samples on Ebay are going for about what you will pay for OEM @ HP parts store so you will be better off going with that IMO.

    Hello :)

I am new here and I hope you can bare with me ;)

    I have a Toshiba Qosmio X300-158
    Processor : Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53
Graphic Card : GeForce 9700 GTS

I have heard that there is some sort of an integrated VGA (Built in) card and some people activated it to use it as a Hybrid SLI mode for power saving while operating on battery.

I want to know.. How do you know any specification about that integrated card ?

How I can activate it in Hybrid SLI mode even with Customized Forcewares if possible ?

DOX Foreceware doesn't work. I tried all 3 options and no avail.

    Thank you :)

Your machine has an Intel chipset--no hybrid graphics , the machines with Nvidia chipset has the hybrid graphics.

    1. Standerd Single/SLI
    2. Hybrid Graphics
    3. Hybrid SLI

    Thanks ;)

Option 1 since you have a single gpu and no sli or hybrid.

Should be there 2 cards under "Display Adapters" into the Device manager ?

EDIT : I have installed it. No changes. Nothing signals to having any sort of using Built in Intel card

EDIT2: In conjunction with the Nvidia 9100M G integrated graphics, the 9700M GTS supports Hybrid-SLI (only HybridPower). HybridPower is a technique to choose between the integrated and dedicated graphics core, if performance or battery runtime is needed. This works only in Windows Vista. Up to now the user has to use a tool to switch between the GPUs. Later Nvidia wants to switch automatically in the drivers. GeForceBoost is not supported with this card, as there would be no performance gain to combine the integrated GPU with the 9700M GTS.

What does that mean ? They said Hybrid SLI is supported but it seems not. Any illustration please ?!

ok hybrid is too cards.... i dont know extaactly how it works but im sure someone on here will explain, either than or GIYF. If you have a 9700 GTS thats a 1 gpu so you chose the first option.

The second if so laptops which have an nvdia chipchip ( i think thats right) which uses an onboard graphics (vga) and a decidicated graphics card. In other words there is two graphics cards. One is built in (vga) which is lower power, so it used for surfing, web, email etc.... the decicated card is for gaimg, watching video, editing etc.

With hybrid you can chose switch between card to save power....

The third option is ... not quite sure extacly how it works... but i know it uses 3 gpus... two cards in sli and a vga. Example 2x 9800 gts 1x 9400 gt

As far as im know of the hybrid is options are only for nvidia chipsets not for intel... So if your like me with an intel p45 you can only run one gpu, not sli, two gpus.

Hope this helps.... Im sure someone on here will fill you in with the techincal detail... power managment etc.

back to your first question the 9700 gts is a single gpu, it only the 9800s that have hybrid, with an nvidia chipset. So you will only see one card in the display adaptors.

mmm.. That explains much.. then how did you switch between the VGa and the 9700 GTS.. (if you did using Dox 185.85 ? )

I know that hybrid is between 2 cards. I actually need to use the VGA if available using any mods when I am at college to save battery duration. But if DOX 185.85 won't help us to switch between VGA and dedicated graphic card as we have Intel P45 chipsets.. why it is there in first place ? or it is there for another purposes

I dont switch beteen vga and 9700 gts, beacuse i dont have the option since i only have a 9700 gts no vga. It's only the x300/305 models with the nvida chipset that have option not the intel chipsets. I have the dox 185.85 and running it perfectly fine, i chose option 1 unless you have an nivdia chipset and have one of the hybrid configurations.

As for power the is a number of ways to save power on 9700 gts, such as using power save mode, turning down the brightness or the screen. Running lights applications such as firefox,msn.... i only get about 1 hour + unplugged which is plenty on time to get a beer at the pub and flash your laptop off to the girls. Red lights and girls are a good combo.. im talking about the qosmio lights :)

I hear underclocking works, but i have not tired it or read up on it. There is a topic on here about it .... cant be bothered to link the link it's like 2 am. No rest for the student lol

Besides than i have acess to a power supply everwhere i go...

yea... the laptop is very catching.. Toshiba really was successful designing it :D

Well.. I will try about downclocking it temporarily using nVidia System Tools and see the results.

    Thanks for the clarification :)

    Hi all.

I am new in this forum. I recently purchased a X305 Q711 laptop and this the best community of Qosmio owners so far. I want to know which parts of my laptop can be upgraded?

    Cheers.

First Of All, Welcome to NBR and enjoy your stay!
If this is your laptop, you can start with your CPU, RAM, or HDD. The best upgrade will be SSD. You have a OK CPU and your GPU is OK as well. SSD drive will give you a boost, at start-up, loading times of apps. And loading times of games if you play any. But it will not give you and FPS incrast. Also you will get better battery time, I don't know how important this is for you, but this means also less heat. Also Vista x64 (64-bit) is recomended, to use all of the 4GB RAM

For CPU the maximum upgrade is the QX9300, Memory is 8gb, GPU for your system is 9800m gtx, harddrive is probably 2x-256mb ssd's and AFAIK the screen max is 1680x1050. I haven't heard of anyone upgrading to 1920x1200 but wouldn't rule it out. You can get a blueray player but without at least 1920x1080 resolution the benefits would be negligable.

I have seen toshiba x305 9800m gtx on Ebay for $169, you can get an OEM QX9300 from HP parts store for $502 +shipping. SSD's and 8gb 204 pin pc3 8500 ram kits are $450 and up.

You can easily spend $2000 maxing out your X305. I've alredy spent $205 on an ES Q9200 from Ebay and $129 for my SSD. I want to get at least 6gb ram because the 9400m eats a lot of memory but it is still too rich for my blood.

    Hey sgilmore62!
I must ask you a question. Did you change your RAM timings ? Becouse I got lower 3DMark06 points with 7-6-6-15. 7-7-7-20 is stock.
You got any idea about this ?

Changing ram timings with Nvidia system tools has failed to net any noticeable positive results. I think the reason that my ram scores are lower than what Intel chipset users are getting is because of the bandwith requirements of the 9400m g sli.

I would like to hear from any 706 or 708 users who have upgraded to 6 or 8gb to find out if there is any performance gains in benchmarks.

Generally speaking, the GPU upgrade would yield better gaming results but it depends on the game. Some games are heavily CPU dependant and a fast quadcore would make the best upgrade.

For more modern games CPU, you can overclock your GPU. The overclock for the GPU will be limited if your CPU is weak. Becouse higher clocks has higher CPU ussage... But also what sgilmore62 said, it depends on the game...

You laptop is a similar spec to mine.... so you gpu is your strongest component. In vista it a 5.6 while your cpu is only like a 5.3.... so i would upgrade your cpu.

    Hello Everyone,
New to this Forum, I have been checking it out for a couple of months and finally decide to join it. Nice forum very informative and not a lot of bad mouthing each other. I think I'm going to like it here. Ok my first question, and I did search but didn't fine the answer I was looking for. My Qosmio X305 Q701 is currently in pieces and in the process of upgrading it form stock. I got a Intel t9900 cpu on the way and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the screen. I would to change it to a WUXGA 1920X1200 but I'm having problems with supplier giving me the information I need as far as connection cables. we all know that our x305 q701 has a WXGA 1440x900 screen with 1ccfl Back light. I need to know if its the same 40 pin connection which include the 7 pin inverter plug and if it is possible to use the one with dual ccfl back lighting. Has anyone here actually upgraded it and have that screen. could you please direct me to where you ordered from and the model you got. Every time I try to order 1 I get the same thing "it will not work, the gpu won't support it, people buy them and send them back... blah blah" Dose anyone have it, did it work or did anyone try and fail?:confused2:

WUXGA 1920X1200 dont think it possible... besides 1440 x 900 is good enought of me since i do aniamtion and gaming. You know that the higher you res the lower frame rate you get in game. Beside i noramlly set my icons to small and use the +/1 in firefox to change the size.

Top tip: When using meida player classice press the 9/8 on your number pad and you can scale movies to the max ratio of your display.... useful for watching moves late night. Letterbox is so old school

What it you change the DPI scaling from 96 DPI default scale to 120 DPI larger scale to make text more readable and icon larger. I think that should put it back to normal to make everything readable. any one out there want to try this. just go to personalize then on the upper left hand side it says adjust font size (DPI) click on it and set it to large you will have to restart the computer to make the change take affect. Any one out there with a WUXGA 1920X1200 want to try that an report back? Or even with the regular WXGA 1440x900 screen can try it just to see what I am talking about. If icon an text is not large enough and then you can keep the resolution set at max, let me know what you think.

i have not messed with my dpi scaling. Alli have changed is the sixe of the windows icon to small, so my desktop and tool bar takes up less of the screen. In firefox i have press +/- to zoom in and out untill i was happy. When im gaming i play 1280 x 800.

Great tutorial, I will keep it in mind when i upgrade my laptop.

Wow, does a 9800M GTX runs stable at that temperature????
BTW, you guys think a "17 cooling base will fit with my Qosmio? (that is back from service on Friday, with its new thermal paste :p )

Depends on what cooler you get.... A zalman will fit kinda off... I bought one but i did not like the way that you have to have your laptop hanging off the front so that the fans to line up with the vents.

A qosmio is not the space size as a normal 17" laptop due to the thick base and how one end is thicker than the other.. The best one which i have found..... is the one on my sig. My latptop sits flush, due to the think lip at the front. It only over hands at the back aboutt a 1 cm, but the think front lip and the way it's angled makes it extremly secure.

The way that is it angled you can fully open the cd/dvd rom drive, you cant do that on the zalman. Besides the fans are faster and there is an option to power but ac rather than usb, if you need more power.

There is four usbs at the back. As for a bag you need to get an 18.4 bag due to the laptop not being the standard 17" spec. A lot of people about the size of the laptop. I have had mine for over a year now and it's light as hell and is not that heavy. When it's in the bag you bearly notice the weight since it is distribuated aross two shoulders.

    The dell xps 1730 heavier

I would not buy the ofiical toshiba bag they are HUGE, like suitecase size.

As for thermal paste, most people use either Arctic Silder AS5 or Tuniq TX-3

    Hope this helps

    Hi and welcome to NBR!
I want to ask you a qestion, how did you get 5.9 for your GPU ? I have also single 9800M GTX but I got lower WEI ?
At least was your GPU at stock clocks when you did the WEI ?

i have not OC'ed anything... reason being is that its a laptop and if you damage any parts then you will pay a very pretty penny repairing it... i was planning on getting a qx9300 off of ebay so when dragon orgins releases i can max everything out without any stutters..

why depend on the windows rating system??? i mean you know what you have and what it is capable of... so why get mad because windows isnt rating things correctly... i gave up on the rating system a very long time ago
