Hello, somebody knows (or has) if the qosmio x305-q706 works fine in windows 7 with the FN Keys? the last time before my third repare that i used that OS the keys didn't work and my last hope that i used was to go back to vista (i installed everything, even the flash cards program).

Right now my qosmio works fine after the repare, the problem is that i dont have the vista cd, so im thinking that if the fn dont works again i cannot return to vista until i get another cd. (Double Partition is not an option for me right now). Thanks

P.D: The reason of using windows 7, is that some programs from XP dont works fine in vista, in 7 they work fine

That's a bummer. I have the exact same model and was thinking about getting q9200 for it. Now I wonder if the chipset is able to handle it.

wow that sucks spend all that money and ending up not being able to use it and stuffing the laptop up too
i would by your laptop and possibly cpu if you have a 9800m gtx graphics card so i can try an upgrade

its strange i was under the impression that some other people have upgraded there cpus to a quad core and not have any problems and all the quad cores have a power consumption of 45w so and any one else had a quad core fry an Intel motherboard?

Hello! I am back! :) I had too much at school work and things to do last few weeks so I have not been able to visit NB. I have been reading the last pages I have missed now, and I must say that this is going to be a long post :D
Umm, It should as some of they have pre-installed two fans. Have you tried to contact Toshiba about this? Maybe they can give you a answer. In Norway, Toshiba support s...., if you are lucky maybe they know more in your country :D I have called Toshiba service, they can't even talk Norwegian, they speek Swedish :D
After you have unistalled a grapich/sound/chipset driver, you should first remove the old "junk" files with DriverSweeper. Here is the link: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
If I don't remember wrong, some here have upgraded to a QX9300 without any issues. Do you have Intel or nVidia chipset?
    Hello dude!
How are you man? Long time ago I have seen here you now. I hope everything is well. You must stop by more. :D
I used Windows7 for about 2 days, but my FN keys didin't work either, so I rolled back to Vista. Acctualy, I have no reson for upgrading to Windows7 yet. Vista runs very well over here. And I didin't notice a diffrance between the speed of Seven and Vista.
As I answerd a few questions erlier. Try to uninstall your grapich driver, then clean it with DriverSweeper and install the lastest official driver from www.nvidia.com
Atleast, I have that wallpaper, do you want me to upload it ?
    --
Let me know the results guys, If you don't get an answer you can always P.M me...

    Cheers!

yeh if you could up load the wallpaper that would be sweet!

From what i have gathered a gpu upgrade for the q701 is possible if you have enough money!, would there be any power problems with the extra 10W required for the 9800m gtx, etc frying my board like GamerFX with his new cpu.
Also does any one know if there is any thing else to prevent a gpu upgrade?
Even though the cost doesn't really justify it i still want to try(and not stuff up, thats why i just want to double check!!)

Here is wallpaper you wanted :)
    http://uploaded.to/file/s61s36
I did it this way becouse it has awesome qualtiy and is 1.6MB. I don't think the extra 10W would be a problem. Users upgrade from T to QX series and does not get power problems. Same theory. Maybe 9800M GTX will run warmer, I have no idea about that. What GPU do you have now, and what is your tempratures?

I upgraded my 9700m gts to 9800m gtx about 3 months ago. No problems so far. It even runs cooler thanks to a better paste (OCZ Freeze).
My qosmio is pretty much entry level with Intel chipset.

    thanks it looks real good!

I got the 9700m gts, it idles around 50C and cpu 45-50C with 3dmark06 gpu highest i have seen is 70C and cpu 75C so its warm but not insane. Combined with a fan mod and gpu driver update it could come down, although my temps are about 10C higher then before i updated my bios do you know any thing about that?
any way how does that compare with your temps?
(also just found out that its a 15w difference between the two cards

i can think of any other problem that i cant fix

I got the gpu dirt cheap from ebay for 169$. http://myworld.ebay.com/ltparts/ but it seems that the seller does not have any items for sale right now. the 9800m gtx was labeled (Toshiba VGA BOARD (1GB) X300/305 P/N K000063270)

As for the fan, if you don't have 2 installed already it would appear that there is plenty of room secondary fan. The 2 fans (or their casings?) are of different size though. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Qosmio-X305/laptop-disassembly-4.htm
Oh yeah and the fan is supposed to be a 3-pin connector. The topic was discussed earlier in this thread.

ok thanks i had seen the fans before but i didn't know that it was the smaller additional fan. That irisvista disassembly guide is the best guide i have seen!

i found the 2 fans here
    http://www.impactcomputers.com/tosh...q706-parts-internal-parts-and-assemblies.html

But im not sure which one is the right i would assume its the cheaper one, smaller = cheaper and the fans from sale on ebay look the same as the one i already have and have the same part number as the the more expensive one (just thinking out loud sorry) can some one confirm my thinking please

wow thats cheap! only $170 if i don't get one from eBay I'm going to have to pay $1000!! any one have a 9800m gtx from sale?!!!

And, btw if the link for Wallpaper goes down, let me know and I can re-upload it. I hope it looks good Kenny :D

Also, I am doing some new memory tests. I am going to post the results here if I achive something good :p I have one download going on now, just waiting for it to finish and I am going to start. I did some simple yesterday.

I'm thinking this is the fan we're missing http://impactcomputersmiami.stores.yahoo.net/k000061950.html. It is supposed to be the smaller secondary fan. I have an old satellite fan so I was thinking about trying to put that in :p

nice, i did not realize that ram made much of a difference on 3dmark06
so would 7-6-6-15 be a safe timing to do or would it just be better to work down from stock timings?

ok thanks that fan seems right to me as well.
i also compared my mobo with the one in the irisvista guide and the smaller fan will fit i just need to make some spacers so it doesn't rest directly on the mobo when i screw it down.

oh yeh and the wallpaper is awesome thanks tunay!

Well, in overclocking/changing of timing there is always a risk. But, I have used 7-6-6-15 for almost one year now and did not get any crashs or bluescreens. I am quite not sure how 7-6-6-14 safe is. But, so far I have not had any problems yet. And, it is not much, but it incrases the 3dMark a little bitt. Don't forget that, my laptops 3dMark score without any overclcok or tweaking is about 10 000.

And, that wallpaper is exclusively uploaded for you!!! :D

I did not understand what you mean, but if you ask for a program to edit your RAM timings with, you must use MemSet. Keep in mind that it only works with IntelChipsets...

An other option for a gpu upgrade would be to by a new mother board and a sli 9800m gts gpu set up. If i was to buy it from ,impact computers and electronics, it would cost me about the same as a 9800m gtx The only things would be: bios on first boot up would it work? motherboard mountings lining up,and heat sinks being the same etc i suppose it would be possible, it would be good as then gpu ram and cpu can be over clocked in the same place.
mmhm maybe i will just stick with the gtx at least i know it will work! can any one comment on the feasibility of this idea extra parts need etc

Well, that is a good increase!
Do you know what you are talking about? 76C is about to be normal under load. Acctualy, my 9800M GTX goes up to 80C under load without any overclock.
Play CrySis with overclock for about 15 min, even 10 min will be enough for you to hit the max temp. Becouse, fans will not kick until one point and that will make you to hit the max temp.

If 76C had been a dangerous temp. my 9800M GTX had not been alive today.

Sorry Kenny about the stupid comment on running 3dmarks all night. People here have helped me alot with my lap-top, I used poor choice of words. What
I do is run 3dmarks 3 times then check temps on card 90c is the highest my card has gone without any problems. I have my ideo card at 630,940,1500 my
score is around 8800. I have my video card over clocked at that setting on windows start-up and no problems. On a lighter note i just got the game "The Saboteur" and having alot of fun with it. :)

90C is about the max at normal level. My 9800M GTX downclocked at 103C. That is pritty dangarous tough. But, playing with clocks at stock voltage is not that dangerous. But if you edit voltage and clocks then you can be afraid for your GPU. But, no worries, we Qosmio users can't do that, thanks to Toshiba whoose locked out the BIOS reading.

Between 70-80C is fine under load...

    :)

As I'm going to upgrade my cpu as soon as have extra $$$ I did some research. After reading through the thread it seems that most upgrades from c2d to quad were made by users with Nvidia chipsets. But I believe the user Bar-code (x300-31A OZ model) (it has 9800M GTX so I'm assuming it's an Intel chipset) upgraded to QX9300. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    But then again,

What might have caused this? Any ideas? Could there be differences between the Intel chipsets they put in qosmios?

So I'm thinking X9100 as it is getting cheaper all the time. T9900 is also an option but its more expensive. As I see it the only problem with the upgrade is the TDP because my current cpu is 25W and the X9100 is 45W. I already upgraded my 9700m GTS to 9800m GTX, the difference being 15W.

How much more can I strain the chipset? I know there are models with 9800m GTX and X9100. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have no idea about how "strong" Intel chipset's are. I am going to upgrade to QX9300 as well. But, when it comes to W I had 9800M GTX pre-installed. And one model here in Norway has 9800M GTX and QX9300 + SSD Disk and 4GB 1066Mhz RAM. This model has fingerprint reader ect. And Intel chipset.
SO, basicly, I don't think Toshiba uses diffrent Intel chipset's on each model. And theoretically our Intel chipsets support up to QX9300. But again, upgrade on your own risk...

Thank you for a prompt reply!
Yeah, having different Intel chipsets seems a bit far-fetched. I guess I have to see what I'm going to do when I upgrade.
    QX9300 is sweet though :)

the only thing i might be concerned about being different is the power brick. the higher wattage (preinstalled 9800M GTX and 45W TDP proc) machines might ship with a different brick to accomodate for more demand....

    just a thought...

My post was also based on my thought. As I said, upgrade at your own risk...

I got Zalman nc2000 and it drops temps about 10C when gaming. The downside of this pad is that the position of air vents are a little bit off so I need to adjust my laptop a bit. But this depends on the position of the fans in your laptop. Also this one is usb-powered only. And no additional usb ports.
