The newer grapich card drivers have a feature which is that it downclock your GPU to save heat. But, this was included in few relases back for months now. Your GPU will not clock up for a task like that. I have the same "issue" in Winamp. My problem is related to this, but this thoes not mean that yours also is. Just a theory.
-
Hi peeps!
I have a X305-Q706 and was wondering what is the highest temps you seen on the 9400M GPU?
Min and maximum please.
TIA
GOTIME -
This depends on your other components etc. But about 90C is max for a standar GPU. And 70-80C is normal max under load. My 9800M GTX idles at 43C, but that is because I have SSD -drive and that saves the heat form normal HDD and generally drops my tempratures.
-
just been looking around and some 9800n gtx run there shaders @ 1350 and others at 1250 (which is what mine is) is there any difference or is that just the different bios which has a different core clock speed ratio like this guy was talking about
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=339589 -
4-5 months ago I done a huge research about this so here is what I found out.
We, I mean all the Qosmio users, mostly with Intel Chipsets have locked bios. This means we can not edit the voltage of our GPU card by bios modfication. The Qosmio users with nVidia chipsets have a bit more limit to go. Since we can't edit the voltage of our GPU and when we only edit the "Mhz" at some point the GPU downclocks. This is maybe because it does not get enough power. We have to just live with it. Intel users can't either overclock their CPU. Dude55 worked hard to get the datasheet, but no body else was intrested if you don't include me. We tried hard, we sended diffrent emails etc. and we have maybe 1000 P.M's send to each other beacuse of this and generally overclocking.
I think I've seen every single 9800M GTX overclcoking therad at this forum, just take a look at the therad you linked to. Who has the first reply? -
ok that makes a lot of sense, if it runs out of power at higher clocks and high load then that would explain why my clocks after crashing from 3dmark06 seem to be locked at low frequencies and i have to reboot to get them back to normal
which screen do you have tunay the 1440x900 or the 1680x1050 (i have this one) (just wondering coz when i do my 3dmark stuff i was running it at 1200x800 so it was compareable with the other x300/305 scores but does it actually make much differnce i know on vantage it does becuase you have to use default setting to get a valid score. -
I have 1440x900. That is my theory from all the research I have done about this laptop and GPU overclock
-
do you run 3dmark06 @ 1200x800 then? or at 1440x900 (1440x900 has only a few less pixels compares to the 3dmark default 1280x1024, 1,296,000 to 1,310,720 so i guess it would give a basically identical score
sorry for all the questions i'm just trying to figure out how to run 3dmark so that i can compare it to other x300 users and every one else -
I did not touch any settings. To be honest with you, I have no idea which resolution I ran the benchmark tests at. But, I'll think I will get higher score now. Because that result was with RAM timings at 7-6-6-15, now I have them at 7-6-6-14. I had many grapich driver updates since that time. And, I have optimized Vista for my use more. I have some "small" works/projects done like that. But I'm not posting anything anywhere. My vista boot-up takes about 10 seconds to boot. My ThinkPad is even faster then that.
-
wow 10 seconds that's fast i get just under 30 sec are you talking about windows boot or from when you press the power button to desktop? which part do you time?
-
I mean to the log in screen. Because I must swip my finger to log in. But the process after swiping my finger to my windows is fully loaded is about 5 max 8 seconds.
-
still that pretty good
-
I took the time today. 8 seconds to log-in screen. NOT included bios post. That takes about another 10 seconds as well. I hate that.
-
im back to tell you guys my solution!!!
after all this hard work, i was maybe 5min away from formatting my laptop untill i realized the solution!
my power plan was on power saver!
hence y everything got laggy!
i dont know who the put that setting for me!
anyways thanks tuna for your help and ideas it was greatly appreciated!!
my laptop is bak to normal
-
Haha! I forgot that most basic thing
But, I still have the problem. But I've read that others as well has this problem. So there is nothing worng either with my laptop or my OS.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well after dealing with vista for a couple months because i couldnt use the HDMI output, i decided to reinstall w7.
I can finally use the HDMI port in w7. a new video driver came out a few days ago, so that might have fixed it.
but anyways im finally going back to using w7 which has no compatibillity issues at all. its so much faster than vista in every way, and now finally everything works. -
I thought it was mentioned somewhere far bk in here but what is the unknown device driver left behind in Windows 7 Enterprise x64 and what is the driver or utility needed for the touch keys and led lights enabled? mine were left enabled during install so they are currently stuck on for now with no function yet. I installed most of the drivers that look like they belong. I want to keep it as trimmed down with as little Toshiba apps or utilities I dont need.
Also just now I noticed there isn't a Fn function keys driver for 7 x64. Is it included in one of the many utilities? Whis of the Toshiba value added utiliies are you guys adding to complete basic installs to Windos 7 x64 Enterprise/Ultimate? -
As you said, this question have been asked many times. But anyway, the driver package you need is named: Value Added Package. Includes FN and touch panal drivers.
-
I keep getting an error starting FN Key button, says "Keynotify MFC has stopped working" The touch keys work but flash cards only work if I set to activate by mouse and will not work by pressing Fn key anymore. I can no longer endble touchpad by Fn+F9 if i forget my USB mouse. What is the work around for this to day? Has anybody tested using Fn key support from another Qosmio model download? I tested with several of the value added utilities that looked alike.
Also, I still have the unknown device in Device Manager What is this?
What about BIOS v1.80, has anybody tested it? It indicates we need to load and run under Vista x64 since not listed for 7 Enterprise -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i used to have that problem a way back (during the w7 beta) where i couldnt use the fn keys and only use the mouse. Im currently working on reinstalling everything, and ill let you know what happens. I have all my w7 drivers saved on my HD, so its pretty easy for me to reinstall them
-
I get the same error Lappie. I'm stuck, because I have no problem with Vista x64 as I said before. Excellent performance!
Share the information if you can find something, there is more people who has the same problem. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
HEYYYY ive been trying FOREVER to get it to work again in windows 7!
I had the fn keys working before in windows 7 and reinstalling the OS again the fn keys would not work. I was so puzzled because i had it working before and couldnt do it again.
I FINALLY have the fn keys, lights and everything else working in windows 7 64-bit professional!
heres what i did to get the fn keys working:
1. I removed all instances of Toshiba value added packages, and flashcard utility and restarted the computer.
2. I reinstalled toshiba value added packages AND flashcard utility FROM THE VISTA section of 64-bit on toshibas site
3. i restarted the computer, and guess what, after doing that about 100 times, the fn key STILL didnt work.
4. I THEN installed the utility support driver under the 64-bit windows 7 section located here http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows7/download/Qosmio_X300_64_cae.htm
5. I then restarted AND WOULD YOU BELIEVE that the fn keys FINALLY WORK! After looking everywhere on the internet on other forums, no one was able to solve this, but i just installed that driver and it works.
Give it a try, it works -
So, tornbacchus, Utility Support Driver was something like patch right? You didn't remove Toshiba Value Added Packages, did you ?
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well i tried so many different combinations of things, but maybe if you already have the value added package and flashcard support utility, you could try just installing the utility support driver and see if it works.
It should, but everytime that i tried different combinations (like windows 7 VAP and flashcard utility to windows 7 VAP and vista flashcard utility) i got different things working and not working.
so yea just try that patch & it should work -
I guess we have to wait for Lappie so he/she can try this out. I'm currently on Windows Vista x64. But if this problem is solved by this. I can ofcourse test Windows7 again. I have not runned benchmark testest in a while! I almost don't remember how 3dMark06 looked like
I'll try to hit 12k on 3dMark06. But for now, school and all that stuff is taking all my time. And my way to school is so long, I must take bus and it takes 40 minutes for me, from school to home. 3 days of week I have activates to do, remaning 2 days for homework and stuff, and for the weekends I try to enjoy the life
No time for benchmarks and almost no time for NBR anymore... =/ -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
it takes me and hour to get to school twice a day 5 days a week
still not as bad as last year that took 1.5 hours twice a day with 4 busses each time.
I'm also considering getting a portable laptop for next year college. I have to find something with a good processor to run things like AutoCAD (engineering) and photoshop.
Im really liking the studio xps with either i5 or i7 processor, 1080p screen and 1GB graphics.
but that wont be for a few months now. -
I bought a ThinkPad for school. Amazing quality, I change the HDD with SSD drive. It has Quadro -GPU card and a T7500 (@2.20GHz) I' have also upgraded RAM to 4GB. I get atleast 2+ hours batterylife of this laptop. I had to just buy something, because my HP 13" died in middle of a week. I use laptop every day, it is not a must, but everything is so much better and organized.
I also have no idea why, this laptop boots faster into windows then my Qosmio =/
Max 12 sec. included bios. I'm going to have some free-time tomorrow tou, So I'm going to clean the vents on my both laptops and install new OS on my Thinkpad. My Qosmios vents are white of dust
Beside this, summer is going to be awesome if my plans go as they should. I want to buy a QX9300 and upgrade my RAM to 8 or 6GB. I'm tried of that message whichs pop-up when I have used all my RAM
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i really need something with good battery life, which is the main reason I need a laptop for school instead of my qosmio.
on my x300 i get max 2 hours. i want at least 5 hours, which is what the dell studio xps. i might get a laptop that gets 10+ hours, but ill see. -
My Qosmio would be kinda ummm destroyed if I had used it at school. I also get about 2 hours of battery life @ Performance plan.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I used to bring it to school everyday because i didn't live far from school.I used it for photoshop and stuff, but i really don't feel like taking my laptop downtown everyday to college. i want something thats light and where i never have to worry about being near an outlet. I'm going to keep my qosmio on my desk and use it as a desktop.
I gotta wait and see. i also have to save up money because i just bought ALOT of new electronics, the most expensive being my 46" tv. I dont want to spend another $1500 on a laptop. -
I'm also going to buy a new TV soon! I wonder if I still can play GTA IV high on my TV from HDMI
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i installed GTA4 on my computer (not legally) and it is so laggy i didnt even play it. i dont know if its because its not a legit file and theres something wrong with it, or if i need to patch it, but it is worse than any other game.
I recently installed just cause 2 which is an open world like gta4, but bigger and better graphics and it runs smooth on my TV.
other games ive played on my tv are mass effect 2, borderlands, just cause 2, assasians creed, and maybe a couple others and they all run fine.
PS my TV is 1920x1080p.
I couldnt get the HDMI port working in windows 7 a few months ago. i wanted to use it to play the games and also downloaded bluray movies. but since the new nvidia driver fixes the hdmi output i went back to w7 i just finished installing all my drivers, and am currently installing programs and games. -
So cool! Yes, you must patch GTA IV with 5th patch to make it playable. Also, I think you you'll be able to play it at medium settings, @ 1440x900
Ah, I miss those days where I could game about 3-4 hours a day =/
I think I must give Windows7 another try now, the FN-keys are fixed, nVidia has started to update drivers (startet long time ago tou) etc. etc. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
what do you think of those 3D TV's?
it seems like a gimmick to me. $4000 for the TV, $400 3D bluray, $300 glasses
and it doesnt even look that good. i saw it at bestbuy and its not "3D", it just gives it depth
i got this TV:
http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/se...1&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=1006441
its awesome. its the 2009 model, but it has the new bravia engine & 120hz. -
I'm not into 3D yet, I've not even seen AVATAR
But, I have been looking for some TV's I can't remember anything from that day. I was so tired when I came back home. But, I found a cool Samsung TV 46" LED and full HD. I can't remember what it was but something like 100 Hz (?) I can't remember the model, I wrote it down one place but
I'm not buying it in few weeks anyway, I must paint my room first. But I also wonder if I should forget about the HDMI and buy a new internal screen with higher res. and a new Quad Core cpu + more RAM?
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i saw the studio xps laptop at my work which has a full HD screen which is glass covered (like the macs) at it looks so clear, which is why if i buy a new laptop im for sure getting a full 1920x1080 screen, it looks so nice.
I wouldn't get more ram, i've never seen the need for it with 4GB DDR3.
i wish i had your processor. the weakest thing in my laptop is my p7350 which lags with photoshop and cpu intensive games.
but its expensive and if i get a new laptop with an i5 or i7 it should be really powerful to do photoshop and autoCAD -
I get all my RAM used up when I play GTA IV. Then a message pop-up and I sometimes get disconnected from the game or it simply crashes when I try to open it. I wonder if I should upgrade my screen and RAM first.
Anyways, here is my upgrade list:
- New CPU (The last step)
- New screen with higher res.
- More RAM
- New keyboard with backlit.
This is it. Since I can not sell this laptop, I have plans to upgrade it and then used it untill it dies. But, I really don't know if it is worth it?
How would you do it?
And do you know what the highes res. screen I can get for X300 ? -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i really wanted a laptop with a backlit keyboard, but i bought a logitech illuminated keyboard http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/4740&cl=ca,en and its really nice. I use it whenever i can at home because it lights up and types a lot better than the laptop keyboard (it has something called perfect stroke)
But i guess the slowest thing in your laptop is your RAM, then screen (i use an external screen + my laptop screen), the keyboard is pretty cheap so you could get it any time if you can use a backlit keyboard with the laptop ( i heard someone else tried but it didnt work) then your processor.
with mine, before i upgrade anything i need to upgrade the processor, then add in an ssd hard drive, then a graphics card.
but the only thing i might do on this is get a second regular hard drive for the space.
the dell xps studio laptop has everyhing i want in it:
i5 (or i7) processor, full HD screen, backlit keyboard, 5+ hrs battery life, 1GB graphics card, so i think i will probably save up to get that laptop near the end of august. -
The keyboard looks good. And yes, sligmore (?) tried this out but it did not work for him. He has nvidia chipset and I have Intel. So I'm going to give this a try, because I'm going to change my keyboard layout anyways. I have norwegian layout, but I have Turkish OS. I I know where every letter is placed on keyboard so I can use it, but I simply don't like it and want to give that backlit keyboard a try soon I find it as Tuskish layout and black one. (Not sliver
)
About the RAM, I have my RAM-modules at 1066Mhz that is stock. Can but any RAM modules that is higher? Will it work or downclock since my CPU is at 1066 Mhz ? I can that both RAM modules must be at same Mhz tou.
The dell xps studio laptop sound really fast
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i dont know much about upgrading RAM or overclocking it (ive only tried overclocking my graphics card a while ago)
i also know nothing about the new processors. is i7 the best? does it compare to the core 2 extreme? what about quad core? -
lol. I have either no information about the new processors. As I said, I've been out from this stuff for too long. But, if I don't remember wrong i7 is the best. I either don't use my overclock profile. Only for benchmarking.
BTW: About GTA IV, I've uploaded some videos at YouTube. You can check it out if you want. Settings are in discription. Nearly maxed out.
I think my CPU is doing very well. I think the problem is me that wants everything running at very high/highest haha
I just mentioned that I'm playing on higher settings then most destkop computers when it cames to GTA IV. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
do you overclock while playing GTA4? if not have you and how much improvement?
-
No, I never overclock my GPU while playing GTA IV. I only get worse result, because my GPU is doing well, ussage is about 90%
BUT my CPU ussage is about 98-99% So, when I overclock my GPU the CPU ussage underload raise and I get worse result.
This is the main reason why I want to change my CPU, it is kinda like holding me back... -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well u could buy a new cpu and i could take the old one off your hands
-
lol
I'll keep that in mind
But, as I said. I want to upgrade, but I'm not sure yet. -
Anyone using windows 7 on a x305-q708 or x305-q706? These are the models with the nvidia chipsets. It seems like Toshiba has fixed all the issues with the funcion and media keys with patches/updates? Also, I read that the all the speakers and subwoofer work if you install the realtek hi def audio driver in vista sp2 compatibility mode.
Any issues with hybrid SLI and the nvidia drivers?
Does the dolby control center still work?
Any other issues annoyances that you've experienced?
I'm just trying to decide if it's worth the trouble to switch to win7...
Thanks. -
What quad cores are supported and or known to be working on BIOS 1.70 or 1.80. I have a chance to grab a pulled Q9000 or Q91000. What kind of heat differances are we talking here? I need it to be VTT capable.
-
The Q9100 is confrimed one place back there. I have no idea about the heat change tou. Try to search in this therad and you'll find some posts about it, not sure about the heat differances. Also the QX9300 has burned out one users laptop but worked for others.
-
hey tornbacchus i have a t9400, 2.53GHz 6mb cache is you want to buy it
