Don't think i did tell you guys
First i had the X305-Q701 (2.0GHz cpu 9700m gts gpu etc) Upgraded CPU and SSD to a T9600 and kingston v series 128gb
Then my sister wanted a laptop and I wanted a 9800m gtx, so she bought the x305 of me and I a bought a x300-w00 (2.5GHz cpu and 9800m gtx)
I just swapped my SSD and CPU into the new rig and yeh happy with it at the moment but hoping to buy a Sager at the end of the year (i7, proper overclocking etc)
-
Ah, I see
Well, we have the same system now
I don't want to buy a new laptop for now. I have again today talked with my friend about the QX9300. Hopefully, I'm going to upgrade it and brake new x300/305 high record
-
yeh same system only yours overclocks a bit more before it runs out of power
good luck with the record
the sager rigs are so tempting especially the NP8120 , i7, blue-ray, HD 18.4' screen, 6gb ram, dual gtx 285m, overclocking ability, really good cooling, tv tuner, Intel SSD (3 hard drive bays)also can get over 18000 in 3damark06
dont get me wrong i like my x300 but that sager is just
-
I don't know why some of the x300's runs out of power "faster" tou. But thank you! I'll try my best!
I know that sager is very good! If you take a look about 200-300 pages back, I also wanted a Sager. BUT, for now I'm going to upgrade my CPU and use my x300. Be cause I have found out that, we all have good systems. I have no heat issues, I have no hardware problem. My laptop runs fine. And yeah, maybe i7 is faster. But I've just got 18 (28th of April) and I'm in first place going to buy a car. Then I'll look for new laptop.
-
yeh necessities first ay i just got my first car a few months ago and they can really use up some money which is why i can wait till Christmas to get the sager or what ever good laptop is out by then
-
yeah, I'm also going to wait a bit for new laptop.
-
I some times use pcsx2 as well mx vs atv and final fantasy 12 are the only ps2 games i got on at the moment they are playable with the T9600 but when i had my old p7350 (@2.0 ghz) the fps averaged 10
now +30
If you looking for a suitable cpu to upgrade to, id say you want at least a T9600 or if you can an X9xxx or a quad core QX9xxx will be expensive though, that is of coarse if you are going to crank up the ps3 emu to any thing worth while -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
ok i am having a huge problem right now.
I'm at work and trying to power up my x300. but I can't.
The laptop hangs at "starting windows", I can't boot into safe mode, and can't do anything else. , I was just using it last night perfectly fine. The only thing that has changed was a windows update that installed last night when I shut down.
Any help? -
Have you tried booting to the Windows installation disk and selecting "repair my computer">"startup repair"?
-
I allready have an T9600
When I read "ok i am having a huge problem right now." I thought it was a hardware issue
Good place to start
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
WTH, after spending 1/2 hr with microsoft support, the laptop started up WHEN I TOOK THE BATTERY OUT!,
after all that, it finally starts up.
thank god. -
Wired.
(10. char) -
That is really strange maybe it just needed to be totally reset
-
hi,
im with an x300-14n
here in france with quad core 2g and 2*9800gts and 2*320go
added a massive23 notebook cooler to cool this OC cpu at 2.35g
and help those poors and noisy two fans
-
welcome harmakhis
nice rig, sli quad core and cooler gotta be happy with that
-
yup it runs for this time with last games and full resolution
a little oc to help the sli
but it needs an illuminated keyboard and more impressive cooling
for this station
-
I'm guessing the temps you have there are idle temps? what are you getting under load?
how does the quad core go? i head the q9000 is clocked a bit on the slow side, at least you have the option of overclocking the it in Nvidia system tools -
i set the toshiba profile for fan on energy saver, only one runs instead of two and at low speed
on load i run resident evil 5 it draws much power from the sli system, and it is really fluid at full res and aliasing
this notebook seems to be efficient even if 2 years old
the quad cant be oc'ed much more 2350 at 2400 its unstable, i think temps are not problem, but the vcore or the ddr3, we cant touch them, its a pity
this notebook needs a bios from laptop with more settings to modify voltage and timings and could be a very powerfull machine with those -
yeh Im quiet impressed with the x300/305 i can still play all my games (except crysis of course) on this machine at full res etc and it performs well
I think tunay and dudw55 were looking at a different bios but is a bit risky, there is no way to tell if it will work and if you stuff up that's it new motherboard i think, would have been nice if Toshiba had just put a complete bios on at the start and my be beefed up the cooling a tad -
nope he is 2 years old and perhaps its nvidia chipset
-
yeh the nvidia chipest allows you to OC your cpu but every one else who has the intel chipset (non sli set up) is stuck with gpu overclocking which is a pity coz the 9800m gtx is cpu limited in my rig
-
we are in need of an important thing on his powa notebook: the raid
2 hdd but no raid
this chipset sucks -
raid doesn't really both me, I have heard it gets a fair bit more complicated for a little performance gain, ssds are the way to go, I got a bad one and it still way faster then any hard drive
-
hey hey, just wondering if the 186.81 nvidia driver is the newest. To be honest im bit of a goof figuring out nvidia's own site for working drivers
-
harmakhis, you have the same mouse as me ?
-
the latest is 197.16 find it here
-
Hi Gents,
I hope all is well where your at!
Will these drivers work on the Q706 with Windows 7? 9800M SLI??
TIA
GOTIME -
Hey, thanks for the link, but not working
Ive been there downloading almost every single ting there, it keeps telling me that there's no hardware supported for it.
So do i need to use driver sweeper or similar to completely remove the oldies drivers??
Normally things like this just install without a fuzz.
But ill try driver sweeper now tho
Thanks for a nice support site, keep it up and keep bringing questions up. Interesting reading
-
Nope the 197.16 didnt install. Makes an error "no hardware compatible". So i guess its back to the 186. Thanks again tho.
-
yeh they should work just fine, latest one does support the 9800m gts, if you want to check there is a supported produces tab you can look at.
i have never heard of specific sli drivers so you just get the driver for that card type and it will detect the sli and do its thing.
driver sweeper could help. does the 186 driver install or are you just reverting back to it after the latest driver fails to install -
I removed the 186 with driver sweeper, just checked "nvidia display" and removed em'.
After nothing worked with 197 i went back to the 186 i got. Its called:
186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql this works
I noticed it installs driver for video and HD audio, think it was audio ye im sure. -
you might have to pm sgilmore62 about it he had a sli qosmio so he might know tunay might remember some of the other guys who had a sli version as well
i know its not a solution but if 186.81 works fine you may just have to stick with it unless there is some thing in the new drivers that you need -
Has anyone upgraded their X305 to the faster Nvidia 9800m GTX? I have an X305-720 that came with the Nvidia 9800m GTS and recently got hold of the 9800m GTX for the X305 toshiba. The problem is when I install the GTX the back light for the LCD does not work, but it works fine with the GTS. Any ideas what the problem could be???
-
so you cant see the screen at all? make sure ALL the little wires are plugged back in especially ones coming off the screen also there is an earth wire which should be bolted on with one of the bolts that holds the screen on is thats not on i would imagine the screen would not work.
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/2493/dsc00899jh.jpg -
I can see the screen, but it is very dark, the back lights are not coming on with the GTX card, but they do come on with the GTS card. All the ground wires are attached and even the accessory mic and cam are plugged in.
-
This can be the 'out of power' issue which is discussed here before.
Wasn't that between me and kenny? And, about the driver update, even I have lost the count for how many times I have explained that! -
I know that both the GTS and the GTX are both 75 watt cards, so according to the specs they should both draw the same amount of power. and the lack of back lights starts with the Qosmio screen at startup.
-
Yeah, but dear god! You're using a Toshiba laptop!
Well, my advice to you; Try to connect a external monitor. Most likely it is going to work, now disconnecet A/C power and you see? No light.
Dude, if you not have forgot to connect a cable. And you're laptop is acting like you say. The issue is what I wrote on the post above yours. I'm glad to try to help you out, but you are also using a X305. Someplace back in this therad a QX9300 burned out a x305, but the same CPU works with x300.
Hope you understand what I mean... -
check your display settings that your brightness isnt turned down also check your power mode and that the dim display setting is what you want it at and check the nvidia control panel that no setting have been messed around with
other then that and making sure all wires are connected im out of ideas -
A good point. But, on X300/305 you can't dim display brightness all the way down. As on my Thinkpad you can. But, was the screen compleatly off?
-
yup
in red brilliant
how to insert a signature? -
yeh true, but how dark is dark though? is it usable in a darkroom or if you stick your nose on the screen you can just make it out?
-
You have to strain to see the images on the screen in any lighting. I have seen displays with no back lights before and that is definitely the situation here, I just can't figure out why it works with the GTS and not the GTX when it should work fine,
-
I've also tried the screen brightness controls and nothing at all changed.
If you say that it should work correctly with a desktop LCD, I will just buy one of those and use the X305 as a desktop with the GTX card. I would love to know what the problem is, but I will be happy just to be able to use it. -
maybe the back light is blown,(unless is works if you put the 9800m gts back in) got damaged in the gpu swap maybe you could try a new screen of eBay i don't know much about screen swaping or upgrading could work though
yeh i bought an external screen this weekend should be here some time this week but having a fully working computer is always the best -
The back light works when the GTS card is installed, but not with the GTX.
-
maybe the gpu is bad
Bad backlight, and I know it's not the screen or inverter - iBook G3 12" - iFixit
wouldn't recommend it except as a last resort
were did you get the 9800m gtx? could you send it back and get it swapped for an other? -
Hi There I own a X305 Q701 and would like to upgrade it. What otions do I have? I would especially like to upgrade the Duo 2.00Ghz P7350. I am fairly new to this so basic terms would helpful.

thanx for info
