Don't worry tunay I'll still come and keep you guys company, and ill have to get my friend who is buying my x300 on this thread
-
Ah, that is a good news Kenny!
Well, I'll wait for some benchmarks from you
Yeah, do that and intrduce him/her for us
-
After reading AdigA90 comment and read about Throttlestop and OC'ing an Extreme mobile processor after trying out the software i must says WOW i was able to OC my QX9300 to 3.2 gHz on Multiplier of 12 and 1.250 VID, i may keep my Q305-725 laptop for a couple of more years, big thanks to Unclewebb!!!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...unlock-core-2-extreme-multiplier-windows.html -
wow that is awesome, great to see your getting some extra value from the qosmio
-
Yeah I just happen to check this post every once in a while and found this gem, maybe the first post should be updated to show ThrottleStop? To revive this thread in a good way and to get it to move faster like in the old days
-
just sent a pm to dude55 hopefully he will update it soon
-
cool thanks Kenny i never thought of PM'ing him doh.
Well anyway I'll post my own test of just my daily work use (AutocadMEP and Revit MEP both 2011 and the usually browsing and having different apps running and not testing with benchmarking software because i don't game at) using ThrottleStop:
The max that I can OC is 3.2M GHz and 12 mltipl. and VID of 1.2750 and that is stable for me.
Anything higher than 3.2 and multiplier of 12.5 and VID of 1.2750 i get bluescreen with using autocad and revit at the same time also ran WEI with this setting and bluescreened.
Adjusting the VID anyting higher that 1.2800 and multiplier of 12 my laptop just shuts off like a desktop which I have never seen before, I don't thihnk our laptops have enough watts to handle a higher VID, if we can't get higher VID pretty much can't over clock anything higher that 3.2, i know guys that have the ASUS and Dells are stable over clocking at 3.6GHz and multiplier of 13 I think and VID at like over 1.3 -
Hi guys, I just found out something interesting about my crashes( mentioned quite a couple pages back....) I tried Dead Rising 2, Lara Croft and Starcraft II.....they all crash the same way, black screen and buzzing noise......... HOWEVER, I have no problems when playing Ubisoft games: Assassin's Creed 2 and Prince of Persia all on max settings, both run fine and never crash. Now I'm really bewildered about what the problem on my laptop is.... Still suspect it's the busted 9700GTS.....Temps still don't really go above 83C when playing those games......
-
yeh that is strange i remember when i had the 9700m gts unreal tournament 3 would crash all the time until i lowered the graphics so there was not so much stress on the system, are the games you mentioned crashing known for being unstable? do they crash with lower settings? because i know that unreal tournament 3 is known for it
-
Well...I remember playing UT3 and it was fine, but this was when my laptop was brand new...not sure if it would crash nowadays...Well...I'm quite sure Starcraft 2 is very stable....due to its rep and quality.......so I do suspect my graphics card is starting to fail me........Dead Rising 2 crashed on me on low settings 800x600 res.......so...I have no idea what's going on anymore....
-
yep sounds like its on the way out
-
I have not reed trough every post carefully but, which grapich driver are you using?
-
Currently I'm using 186....seemed to be one of the more stable and popular one....but I didn't have problems with it last year...only this year....i don't OC it or anything....it just started by itself...I have a good laptop cooler...but doesn't seem to be overheating as the main issue here...
-
What about to do a clean install? Download the lastest driver from nvidia.com update phyx and last download the web installer of DirectX?
Sorry to say this but, if your games still crash after this, it is 95% like your GPU. I have year stayed updated with my GPU drivers, reason for this is because nvidia actually fix bugs in games with thier driver updates (Well, they try.)
It is worth a try if you really want to find out if your GPU is dying or not. -
10 chara/ +1
-
Guys, anyone intrested in new benchmarks with updated drivers from me? I want to push the limits again, but need some motivation...
-
I'm interested in seeing if there is any performance improvement. Do you reckon you could do 3DMark vantage as well?
-
I sent it to a company ( Your PC Matters) where they inspected and worked on my laptop, and they said there were no problems with the hardware, including the GPU. They were able to stress my laptop until 103C degrees and it was running fine. They cleaned up my laptop a bit, but after I got it back, it still crashes.
Right now, they've offered to clean install Windows for free, but I am wondering whether it is still the GPU or not? Or should I try the clean install with them?
Note: I just found out that my Windows 7 Ultimate is a bootleg copy....I asked my friend who borrowed the disc to me >.< Could this be why? -
Sure bro! They will be up today. I had problems with Vantage last time, it did not support 1440x900 or something like that. But anyways, I'll try it again.
No, I don't think so. Did he say what the soruce was? There is LEGAL downloads for Windows 7 in this form right now.
But, I have another suggestion for you, what about to try to install Vista? If your laptop then still crash, It is 99% like your hardware. And, I never trust those PC repair folks. -
did you try doing a clean install yourself?
yeh i had the same thing with the 1440x900 screen, do you have an external monitor with resolution larger then 1280x1024 then it'll work. -
I have only one external monitor but it is only 15" I have no idea what the res. is. I'll check that tou. But I can't do this today or tomorrow, I can't do a clean install be cause I forgot that I have some video projects I must finish off first.
-
yeh work before play
-
Yeah. But I'm going to post'em as soon as possible.

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Guys just a quick advice: i *may* get a qosmio x300-15u, but i have some doubts as the seller doesnt even know what a gpu card is.
So im counting on you guys to shred some light on this:
- it comes with q9000,can it be oced?
- the seller states 9800m gts (512x2), would it mean a sli configuration?
- how does the sli setup performs compared to single cards?
- its easy to replace cpu and gpu? I have an x9100 laying around
Also i cant find benchmarks with 9800m gts sli. How does performs in 3dmark06,mafia 2 and so on?
The seller is asking 850 for the system which is used.
Thanks alot guys
-
Overclocking is not an option for x300/305 users. If you want a easy upgrade laptop this is not a good deal.
-
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
I see, thanks, ill stick with my clevo then
-
Which is much easier to upgrade
There is quite few members here who loves their Qosmio x300. I have said this before, but here I go again, I'm never going to buy a Toshiba again... 0 support, no overclocking, hard to upgrade etc. etc.
-
A quick google tells me that the x300-15u is an sli model. See here Becuase it has sli it will also have a nvidia chipset which will allow you to over clock the cpu in nvidia system tools.
In 3dmark 06 you might get 13k
its not a bad computer but like tunay said you could do much better -
Ah sorry! - I've totally forgot that about nVidia and Intel chipset. But, kenny you have used both right? Is the overclock limit very short? As overclocking GPU?
-
Nah I haven't used both but i think most people have not been able to overclock very far on the cpu because of heat, power and non-extreme cpu. And yeh from memory only the 9700m gts has ever over clocked well most likely because of the lower power requirement.
Like you said though he is better off upgrading the clevo -
Ah, okay. The reason why I asked was I wanted to know if the 'power limit' was short as it is on the Intel chipsets. But, it seems to be an overall 'issue'...
-
Hey Everyone,
Looking to upgrade the CPU on my X300 (its currently running the P8600). I was looking at upgrading it to the X9100 chip. Will I have any issues (bios etc.) and should I look at something bigger or will this do? (requirements: gaming and photo editing). The GPU is the 9700M GTS and I've got 4gb of Ram. A quick reply woudl be really appreciated...I can get a good price on the X9100 today.
On a different note, every time I plug an HDMI cable into the laptop the screen goes black and the computer freezes. Anyone experience this and what drivers are ppl successfully using that allow the to connect with HDMI
Thanks!
C -
Hi cdp
You shouldnt have any issues at all, i think its a worthy upgrade
As far as the hdmi goes try updating your graphic drivers, other poeple have had this problem and i think that was the solution -
Got my M17x on Friday and parted with the x300 on Sunday night so far no problems that I haven't been able to fix.
As far as bench marks go 3dmark06 I got 14671 and vantage I got P13455 -
cdp: As kenny said, worth to upgarde.
kenny27: Congratulations bro! I'll try to install Windows 7 on my Qosmio today and post up some benchmarks. Well, atleast that was my plan, but I've got bunch of homework today... I'll see how it turns out, don't forget us dude
-
Okay, now I need your help!
I have installed Windows Seven 64-bit on my system. But I can't get the FN keys to work. Any suggestions? -
sorry I never really used them so cant really help you, I think they did work at one stage. what about the media buttons? do they work?
-
Here comes the strange part dude, yes. They work, but my FN keys don't work. So, you mean that my Touchpad will remain disabled for ever unless I install Vista again?
-
What so which key/ aren't working?
I understand
-The FN keys to be the f1 f2 f3... they have an extra function when you press the FN Key so they arnt working?
-Touch pad is like the mouse, is that working?
-Media keys the touch sensitive buttons that light up when you touch then, and they are working? -
The FN keys do not work.
TouchPad does not work because I left 'em disabled in Vista. Be cause I mainly do not use it.
The Media keys in top work, fully!
-
From memory the touch pad has a option in the bios if you want to use it again
Function keys shounld work again if you install the right driver a cant remember if it was toshiba added value package or a different one -
I have installed Toshiba Value Package. No, actually I disabled my TouchPad from BIOS few seconds ago
I have the benchmarks for you, but I can't upload 'em (confused)
-
Hi There. Want to get as much out of my x305 as I can. What are all the upgrades I can do? Is it possible to fit a quad core in it. New to this but am keen to learn. I stripped the whole thing to pieces as it was getting hot and it went back together fine. So would like to know how I can hot it up?

You can do quite lot, but how much do you want to pay? I would start with the CPU, then the GPU, but no, it is not worth it...
-
Not to worried about exspense. But how good can I make it compared to the latest laptops, Performance wise?
-
What would I need to make it the best it could be?
-
Well, best GPU you can get is 9800M GTX. But, I'm not sure, is your motherboard @ 1066 or 800 Mhz?
-
Please refer to below link for all specs. Pritty sure 1066 Mhz
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/qosmio_X305-Q701.pdf -
I can't open it. Have not PDF reader installed, but if it is 1066 Mhz then you can go far as QX9300.
And, 9800M GTX and QX9300 is the best combination you can get in a x300/305 -
