Ok judgment, let me clear it for you. Overclock isin't all about raising the clocks! You must actually find right combinations, and don't mess the ratio up! Try to incrase your mhz on GPU by 10-15. On one point you'll start to lose points.

This guys gets 15k because he has the qx9300 which is a beast and is only beaten by the i7 920/940xm, unfortunately 3DMark06 is very CPU biased for a gaming benchmark

I had the T9600 (2.8GHz) and it was limiting my 9800m gtx in games I would get a boost from a gpu overclock in benchmarks but no increase in games, I would guess that your x9100 probably is a bottleneck try overclocking it with the gpus and see if game fps improves?

Well 3dmark06 is only working with dual cores. So the more spee u have in a dual core in ghz the more the points u get. qx9300 will only score better in 3dmark vantage which utilizes all 4 cores. So the x9100 should score better in 3dmark06. I have seen lots of scores of the x9100 and the qx9300 never beat it in the 3dmark06 score except of when it was running at the same speed. When I was buying my qosmio there was nearly no price difference between the 2 but I went with the x9100 since games mostly utilise only 2 cores so more ghz is better for gaming. At least for now. So no I dont think my cpu is bottleneck but I will try overclocking. Most people have found that 3ghz is the magic number. More than that gives 3-4 fps more in some situations so its not worth overclocking it.

    Toshiba Qosmio X300-14X
    C2E X9100 3.06GHz
    4GB DDR3 1066MHz
    500GB x2 Seagate Momentus 7200.4
    GF 9800M GTS x2 SLI + GF 9400M
    Highest 3DMark06: 15.114
    Vista Ultimate

these are the specs of the guy who says he is getting 15k in 3dmark06. He has exactly the same computer as mine and it is not even overclocked. So ...

Man, Kenny has it right. I don't know what you want... There will always be bottleneck in a system. And in your case it is your CPU, it is not only you... My CPU is also bottleneck for my 9800M GTX. I have posted it so many times it here before that I even don't even have a number! When my GPU is at about 70-80% ussage, my CPU is maxed out at 98%.

You might be correct. I have overclock only the cpu from 3,06ghz to 3,4ghz and I gained 1k in 3dmark06 Before I had 11900 now I have 13391. Maybe overclocking the gpu now will do an increase?

Well try installing the following after you have uninstalled the previous ones:
    1st Flash Cards Support Utility 1.63.0.4 http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/fcsu-20100121091833.zip
    2nd Value Added Package 1.4 http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/vap-20100419162607.zip
(Note this drivers are for windows 7 64bit)
Let me know if it does the trick! :) I have this drivers running and everything is working like a charm. Btw I needed to update my bios before my fn keys worked in win 7.

Yes. You can now try to overclock your GPU, but start low and do not take huge steps. Make 10-15 Mhz incrase each time. Also, each time your driver/GPU crashes YOU MUST DO A RESTART!
I'll try this later. I allready have the lastests BIOS.

If anyone is looking for a decent price on 9800M GTX cards for their X305's this guy on EBay is selling them for $350.00 each with a thirty day warranty. I ordered one and it should be in this week some time.
    TOSHIBA VGA BOARD, NB9E-GTX, 1GB DDR-III K000063270 - eBay (item 110579858276 end time Nov-27-10 19:44:27 PST)

I've replaced the graphics card in mine before and it is not a hard job compared to most laptops, the graphics card is on the top of the motherboard, so all you have to do is get the palm rest off.

If you have one of the systems that has only the one fan in it, I would suggest ordering the second fan and installing it with the card. sparepartswarehouse.com had them in stock.

Well it might have been the old forceware and windows vista. He was using 185 something if I can remember. I know that when I was using 186.82 I could get 13xxx which now using 260.99 (latest driver) came down to 11900. While overclocking I got a 13xxx score which is good. I can overclock my cpu up to 4ghz but I dont want to go up to there.. I can overclock it only by multiplier up to 3,6 ghz (13,5x multiplier) so I dont want to play with the voltage. Sc2 plays quite good. I have max fps 55 and min 20fps. This is due to that I disabled the one of the 2 cards because of problems with sli in sc2 and black lines. When I had sli enable my lowest fps were 35.

Yeh the good old 185.85, it is quiet strange really, you would think that performance would improve in both games and benchmarks.
Unless the support for the older technology drops in order to make room for the new tech.

Here goes my benchmarks guys. But I didn't get anyhigher then the current 3DMark score. Actually, I care more about the real life performance now :)

    Let's start;

Here is what I had with stock Vista, no overclock, or RAM timings.

Here is stock Windows 7, again with no overclock or tweaked RAM timings.

And this is with Windows 7, no overclock, RAM timings at 7-6-6-14
    [IMG]

And this is with RAM timings at 7-6-6-14 and GPU overclock. This was the farest (stable) I could get with updated drivers.

Here is my SSD drive again, under Windows 7. RAM timings at stock.

Here is again my SSD, but this time my RAM timings is at 7-6-6-14
    [IMG]

    So, what do you think?

Beside this, I have changed the thermal paste @ CPU AND GPU. I've used Noctua NT-H1, that was the best one I could find. I've also used arctic silver cleaner.
arctic silver cleaner - Google Search

Here is my new idle temprature...

By the way, my temps. are much lower now. my GPU idled at 43C yesterday. I maybe post a new screenshot later.

Only a card built for the X300 or X305 will fit. The others would not physically fit, nor would the sockets for plugging them in match up with an X300 or X305.

And in the case of the Nvidia chipset boards, only an Sli card from that series will be able to plug in to the socket. The intel chipset boards that used the 9700M Gt, 9800M GTS (Single GPU), And 9800M GTX had a wider socket that will not accept an Sli card.

I remember that I saw in a forum a guy that fitted a clevo 9800m gtx in his intel based chipset in his qosmio x300. So that's y I had this question. Clevo based 9800m gtx have the slot for sli cable. So it might be possible to put 2 of them in the nvidia based qosmio x300. That was my question. If any can say for sure that u can or can't please reply!!

Even if this upgrade is possible how much would the gain between 9800m GTS SLI VS 9800m GTX SLI be ? toshiba's 9800m GTS SLI have also turbocache so they can get nearly up to 2gb vram from ddr3 ram of the laptop which is quite fast at 1066mhz and having 8gb ram I dont thing the 512mb extra vram of 9800m gtx will make a big difference. Can anyone tell me if there will be any performance increase in games? I know that 9800m gtx has double the pipelines of a 9800m gts but they are in lower mhz. So can anyone tell me if there will be an increase? Thx in advance.

Yeh there will be an increase provided you have a good enough cpu but wether its a worth while upgrade is hard to tell it might be 10% not really sure though.

The nvida motherboard and heat sink doesn't look like it has enough room for 2 cards

Yeah, you have slot for second HDD. Wired, I have never seen of those stickers on a X300 before. Do a search maybe they're available on ebay, then you can do what you want and place a new one :D

judgment, if you Google the images for the Dell card you want to use and images of a card built for a Toshiba X300.X305 you will see that none of the mounting locations for heat sinks match up, nor do the board mounting locations. While it may be possible to plug the card into the socket, you will likely be using bubble gum and bailing wire to hold it and the heatsink in place.

If you will notice there is a distinct triangular fastener arrangement for the heat sink on the Toshiba card. That is common on Toshiba cards, but I have never seen it used anywhere else. The standard arrangement is 4 fasteners in a square arrangement around the GPU.
The Dell card is missing all of the things needed to make it work.

    Here is the dell card.

This is my old Nvidia 9800M GTX I had laying around from a Toshiba X305.
    http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/8355/dscn0201i.jpg

Another thing to keep in mind, laptops have the firmware for the graphics cards installed as part of the main motherboard bios, Toshiba never made a 9800M GTX Sli X300/X305 so it is doubtful that the firmware is there.

Yeh if you burnt a recovery disk and you have used it to reinstall vista before it should just fine on a new hard drive
wow 2 500GB SSD's thats going to cost a lot

hard drives are easy to find so ill leave that to you, but ebay newegg, those kind places

ram same thing ebay, newegg those places, can some one help me out with how many pin ram the x300's takes, i can remember.

cpus are best found on ebay eg, QX9300, x9100

you can get a 9800m gtx here

A 1650x1080 screen can be found on ebay i could only find 1440x900 screens though

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I can get a qx9300 cheap? I currently have the x9100. What about the clevo based gpu cards? Are they different from qosmio cards? Does the toshiba 9800m GTX have an sli slot on the card? If yes can you fit 2 of them in the nvidia based x300? Thx in advnace!!

No the 9800m gtx from the toshiba models dont have an sli slot, and the clevo based 9800m gtx's will be the mxm 3 video card so they will have 4 screws for the heat sink instead of 3 like the toshiba ones, like Priest-King said
And for the QX9300 get an ES from ebay as the OEM ones are still $600-800

The intel boards can only be run as a single GPU system, not Sli, no other cards will fit. The card designs are proprietary, no one else makes them the same way.
The 2.53 ghz processors are expensive as hell anywhere you buy them. I found a 2.4 ghz quad core with 12 megs Ls cache on ebay for less than $300.00, so I used one of those instead.

Okay one question. I know I can mod the heatsink and make it fit. The problem is do 2 of the 9800m GTX from clevo fit in the nvidia based motherboard of x300? BTW I am buying an ssd OCZ Vertex 2 Series - 240 GB for my qosmio. Do you know if there is something better available? Would I see a big difference from my 320gb 7200rpm? Again 9800m GTX in sli seem worthless in the x300. I think u might only get like 5-10max fps more in games so it's not worth buying 2 clevo 9800m GTX which are 300-400 each. Moreover I have seen that 2 9800m GTS SLI are better utilised than the dual 9800m GTX. That's what I have seen from people with dual 9800m GTX fps in games. So what do u think? Thx again! U seem very informative!! :)

I can't really see taking the risk trying to force Sli cards to fit in a case they are not designed for, for what will be limited gain in performance.
It would be better to max out the ram, (8gb) upgrade the processor, and install at least a 120gb SSD drive, just that alone will boost performance drastically in the system. SSD drives will run circles around even a 4 drive raid array.

If you are dead set on having SLI, it would be better in the long run to invest your money in a system that already has it installed. EBay quite often has used X305's that had SLI built in, and even if the system needed a new mainboard, it would still be cheaper to fix than do your upgrade.

Well I already have an sli laptop. My current specs are 9800m GTS SLI 512mb each with turbocache up to 2gb. I have the x9100 cpu and I can overclock it up to 4ghz (did it just once for testing purposes). I was just thinking of a dual 9800m GTX config which toshiba doesn't have. I really love the qosmio x300 design. When it came out it was the only one laptop with sli graphics in my country. My other option was an alienware with a single 260m and no support at all (since they bring them from usa). So I went with toshiba. I am quite impressed with the performance of the system. I managed to score 14k+ with overclocked cpu in 3dmark06 and the new drivers 260.99 . I do get good fps in most games with everything on high! I would just like to know if a 9800m GTX sli setup was available for this laptop and if it would give any real life performance gains! Thats all! Thx for ur answers!!

    I also had one

Newegg has SSD's on both the US and Canada sites they seem cheap, compared to Australia any way.
Go for an Intel or OCZ vertex 2 SSD as large as you can reasonably afford, the bigger it is the longer it will stay at peak performance. But you could get a 40GB intel SSD for $100 and it would still be faster then almost any hdd
Usually you just put your OS and a few main programs on the SSD so you dont need much space.

With the DVD drive if it works now and hasn't been funny before or since then I think you should be alright

Well there is difference seing the 2 screens! Its not just resolution. The colors are better I think. My friend went with the lower resolution that is 1440x900 and I could compare them. 1680x1050 is nearly as goos as 1080p. I can't see much difference if any at all. Since I have a 1080p toshiba tv and I don't seem to recognise any difference in picture quality. Qosmio x300 came with 2 monitors.
    17” Toshiba TruBrite® WXGA+ TFT High Brightness display, resolution 1,440 x 900, 200 cd/m2
    VS
    17” Toshiba TruBrite® WSXGA+ TFT High Brightness display,resolution 1,680 x 1,050, 200 cd/m2

I have read somewhere that the qosmio x300's chasis is made of carbon fibre instead of cheap plastic. Is that true?

I have searched for the 1,680 x 1,050 but can't find one! I would love to upgrade my LCD as my 14.1" also has 1,440 x 900 -.-

@SpecialEd: I would say that you atleast need 120GB but that is just me. My other laptop does it even fine with 30GB, but there is only about 900MB free without any personal data. Beside this my Qosmio has around 40GB free.
