For my qosmio x300 which is using the nvidia chipset I use: 1)Toshiba Sound Driver 6.0.1.5904 and 2)Toshiba Dolby Control Center

You can download both from toshiba's uk website. Graphics drivers I use 260.99 which are the best up to now with all of my games no bugs or black screens !! :)

BTW if you have the cash I would upgrade my processor to x9100 or qx9300 according to how much you want to spend. You can get very similar performance to i7. x9100 is similar to 720qm and qx9300 is between 820qm and 920xm. Thats what I found out from my research since I am looking forward to change my x9100 to a qx9300 but it is still an expensive option..

Upgrading this laptop for me is not a good option, first i had very experiences with it so now i only use it as a server/back-up in my house or like the pc for the family (but honestly nobody uses it, everyone has their laptops). And paying more than 200 dollars for an Core 2 Extreme for me is expensive and in vain (my main laptop is the alienware, but until is repaired or exchanged i will left this again as server).

My last problems were dead GPU (both 9800M because of heat problems), and to consider more heat caused by a more hot CPU, well honestly that doesn't convinces me.

Has anybody tried putting an lcd from a G35 Qosmio into an X305? They're 17" WUXGA 1920x1200 screens. They probably don't have compatible connections but that would be the most promising thing to look into.

    http://www.screenaid.com/see_resolution.html?resolution_id=16&cPath=2572

Or check these out. They're in the same series from LG.

Good find Nigel, I don think it has been tried yet, although i think it would work well, the screens seem to be standardized, same plugs and size. No reason why it shouldn't work

Yep, I think that way too kenny! But, another question is, is it worth to put that much money? Beside this I think a Quad core is nesesssary too.

Well what can I say. I have no heat problems and I have an x9100. My 9800m GTS SLI go as high as 70c at full load. regularly they idle at 45.

Hmmm, if you look on page 257 user "Spectar82" put a WUXGA Samsung screen in his x305. Interesting...

Alright, I'm gonna get an LG 1920x1200 and see if it works. I'll just find a vendor with a good return policy, lol. I bought a X305-Q705 without an LCD so I need a new one anyway.

If your looking for a new LCD I would suggest this place:

LOWEST PRICED BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT NOTEBOOK DISPLAYS - LARGE INVENTORY

My kid stepped on her A205 Satellite pc and destroyed the screen on Monday. I ordered a new screen, had it shipped overnight, it was original and new, put it in and no problems. From what I see they have a wide selection of replacement screens.

I'm gonna get one off ebay actually. I can find most parts cheaper there, plus I prefer using paypal because of the security.

    Here we go. $140.

I will. It might be a couple weeks. It's missing more than the lcd, lol. It's pretty much just a shell + the motherboard (which still has the CPU/GPU on it). Got it for cheap though :)

    Here, have a look yourself: Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q705 Laptop/C2D 2.0 GHz/P&R/Halftop - eBay (item 110623091483 end time Dec-17-10 10:05:26 PST)

Really I basically payed $60 + Call of Duty Black Ops. I had just sold that for $54 and the money was still sitting in my paypal account, and I had a 10%-off coupon from ebay (I didn't even know they did that). When it's finished, I'll probably have about $600 into it which is what stock Q701s and Q705s are going for, but it'll have 8gbs of 10600 DDR3 ram, dual 640gb hdds, and a 1920x1200 lcd (hopefully! lol).

Yeah it looks like the 512mb 9700M GTS that everyone has and they list it as having a 2.0ghz CPU so it'll be the P7350. I plan on upgrading to a 9800 GTX and some kinda quad core (provided the motherboard isn't fried, haha).

Oh hey, I have a question. Will a 12.5mm HDD fit in the X305 caddies? I couldn't find that out via Google...
I'd love to stick 750gb hdds in there. They're only $20 more than the 640gb ones.

I do not think so. But I'm not sure. It is a lot of space down there.. But it need to fit.
Do you know if you have Intel or nForce chipset? If you have nVidia chipset, then you're lucky. I'll be able to overclock! And SLI ofcourse.

If it's the Q705 like it says it is than it'll be the Intel PM45 chipset. I'll be fine with the single 9700M GTS for a while, then I'll upgrade to the 9800M GTX. I doubt the performance difference between the 9800M GTX and the dual 9700s is worth the cost of buying a new motherboard. If I can find it cheap however...

Swing and a miss! It came today and it appears to have milk and battery acid all over it. Everything looks fried, haha... damn.

Well it's been fun guys. I'll come back when I actually acquire a working one. I'm still set on getting an X305.

I bought it off ebay, if I didn't make that clear. The pics weren't very good. It's kind of hard to see anyway, it kind of blends in with the connections. Seller is letting me return it thankfully.

Hey guys hope you all had a good Christmas. Been lurking for a while now, I got an X300 that was faulty last month and repaired it, but sadly all I do on it is browse, do my coursework and play music on it. I use my xbox for games. I've always been a Qosmio fan, its the speakers.

Started with a G10 then a while later got a G20 (which was also faulty - broken screen) but that got stolen so I got a G40. That recently packed in, and insurers were taking so long to sort it out I was set to just buy a new one. Was looking at some i5 vaios when I found the broken X300! The G40 is still being repaired, think I'll be getting it in the new year.

Anyway the main reason I post is because the G40 is a 17 incher and has HD internal resolution, I was a bit disappointed to find that the X300 doesn't?? They sometimes come up on ebay, a lot of them have the defected nvidia card in. Mine was repaired once under warranty from this, I'm thinking this time its the same thing.

As you can see I talk too much...

haha your not the only one who likes the speakers. What model of the x300 did you get?
so you have been having problems with the screen not turning on one most of your qosmios? or do they randomly crash when in use?

It's an X300-11s. I had no trouble at all with the G10, but apparently the CD drive is now intermittent (I gave it to my brother when I got the G40). The G20 had a problem with a bar of the screen blank so I got a 2nd hand LCD of ebay, but it only had 1 bulb instead of the ultrabright 2 in the G20 so had to swap the backlights over and ended up getting a bit of dust in between, but like I said that got stolen. I did like the volume LED bar and the slot dvd drive though....

With the G40 I had a "PCI Express Error" message just display one day, and it would not boot. Luckily I had the extended warranty and Toshiba repaired it within a week. Thing is ever since that, you can hear the inverter whine unless its on 100% brightness, and sometimes the backlight turns off after 5 secs when you put it at 100%, which can only be remedied by closing and opening the screen and then quickly switching down to a lower level. After that, sometimes when you boot or shutdown, the screen stays black and the fans max out, if you force shut down its fine. I think this time it stayed that way too long (shut it down and went to sleep without realising it was spinning) and it must have overheated. The next day it just didnt boot - black screen. I told my insurers I dropped it and they're repairing it now, so it will be on its 3rd motherboard! (They only cover accidental damage, not technical faults, however a while ago I fell of my bike with it in my backpack and there's a crack in one corner so it supports my claim :p )

With this one it was advertised as overheating. I thought easy fix so I bought it. Then for some reason I decided to google "X300 overheating". After seeing all the results I thought I had bought a massive paperweight, but it turns out it was nothing to do with the GPU, just the dust grille had somehow melted/split and caught on the fan, so I took it apart and cut that bit out and now its fine. Formatted it and put win7 on and got all the drivers from Toshiba - works great.

This one actually fits in my bag (the G40 is even bigger cos of the tweeter positions) so I can take it to uni, but my friends call it my "big gay laptop". I have to admit I'm not a major fan of the flames, but it stands out against all the macs :D

Haha! That's whats the best thing on our qosmio x300 design is (curves)! I do prefer qosmio x300 design over the x500 or any other laptop. The only thing I kind of don't like is when I go to the uni library for studying everyone looks at me because the flames draw attention! On the other hand it might be a good thing if ur not a shy person! Another problem is the battery life.. They could have put in a battery which could go up to 3hrs with the onboard graphics like the x500...!

I dont use the nvidia system tools for overclocking my cpu. I can overclock up to 4 ghz with no overheating problems. (using throttle stop on my x9100). I was thinking of upgrading to a qx9300 but I will stay with my x9100 for now.. Maybe later if prices get lower.. Btw which laptop did u buy? Is it better than the qosmio x300 that u where using? GT 320m is not as good as the 9800m GTX so did u find any overall improvements? What made u switch from ur qosmio?

    No I have the nvidia 730i :)
I had bad experience with the nvidia system tools when I tried to overclock my gpu. My gpu drivers got messed up and nothing could clean them up. So I needed to do a clean install of windows 7 ultimate x64. Now I dont want to mess my windows again because it takes lots of effort to bring my machine back up and working with all of my stuff! :p
P.S maybe my drivers where messed up because I did lots of test with different drivers, even modified drivers by me until I had a final fully working one, but since I cannot be sure I will try not using nvidia system tools.

How To Cancel or mute off built in Mic in a simple way? I followed the regular instructions as in any other PC or laptop I had but I cannot for the life of me get teh mic to built in mic to shut off. I have volume up sort of high but when it is quiet I can hear the thumping of keystrokes the bic or if I tap on monitor. I finally disabled everything and muted everything but still nothing untill I moved mic boost slider all the way to left "0" position. Now I'm not sure it is completely off but I cant hear the thumping of my keystrokes. I rarely use my built in mic. INext to taping in a physical switch in the lid or monitor, what it the intended way? Or is this a fluke of some kind froma hacking app I might have got running on my machine i not know about yet?

Additionally, what is the latest in known compatable blue-Ray for our X300/X305s? Where at and how much?

    Thankx in advance.

Not sure about the mic but the x300 never came with blu-ray players so you might have to get an external one.

Firstly for the mic problem. I had the same problem when windows automatically updated my driver for audio. After that I couldn't completely uninstall it and fix it. So I did a clean install of windows 7 and I used Toshiba Sound Driver 6.0.1.5904 for the sound drivers! You also need to use Toshiba Value Added Package 1.2.28_64 , Toshiba webcam 1.7.260.0526L and Toshiba ChipSet Utility 15.38 . My version of qosmio is the one with the nforce 730i motherboard so this applies to my version. If you have the intel chipset then I am not sure what the fix is. For your 2nd question there are available blu-ray rom and writers for the qosmio x300. A friend of mine who has a qosmio x300 as well has bought through e-bay a blu-ray writer which fitted our qosmio x300. You just need to research it as I dont remember the model that he bought!

Hmm, GPU is working fine but that T9600 from my Qosmio is actually stuck at 2.9Ghz, I wonder if Toshiba have done something to prevent overclocking if we even had the datasheet! I have tried my T4500 with this system (but with my 2x4GB modules, and I were able to raise it from 2.30Ghz to 2.60Ghz, just at once and I did not care to overclock it more as I needed it only to test. First I tought it was my RAM modules and swapped back in the olds, but it still did not work. However, I'll check how this turns out.. but what I wonder about, do you guys with Toshiba shipped CPU's had any problems overclocking it?

Hey by the way, does any one have the 6300 here?

And I've just looked for a new T9900, the price for a retail here in Norway is higher then a QX9300!

    Second edit;
Is this what you're looking for judgment? (1600 × 1200)

To start with thanks for the wallpaper. It is similar. Secondly I have been able to overclock my x9100 to 4ghz with throttle stop (my cpu was from the begining in meaing its the toshiba's cpu! ). I don't know if it is because of the extreme edition which has unlocked multiplier (although no bios settings from toshiba which sucks!) but I can overclock it. I only overclocked to 4 ghz for testing. I have gained a score of 6.9 in windows experience with the overclock and a little more than 1k gain in 3dmark 06. Haven't tried vantage since I didn't buy it. Btw I noticed that u have a qosmio x300 with the intel chipset. Are you able to install the nvidia drivers from their website or do u use modified ones? I had a big problem with drivers until I finally fixed them for myself (modified the nvidia 260.99) and up to now I have no bugs what so ever..

I had no problems installing drivers from nvidia.com. But I do not use my Qosmio anymore, my new system is in my signature. Hmm, I really don't know why it act like this then. But since I could not overclock with diffrent RAM modules either, I think it is the CPU.

yeh its silly the average user sees the bigger number and is willing to fork out more money, same thing happens with gpus '1GB of dedicated graphic" and its a low end gpu which can barely use that amount of memory. company's and sellers take advantage of this unfortunately

Are you overclocking in the bios and/or have you tried a few different programs like throttlestop

my x300 came with an external one as well as a built in on

Yeah, T9900 is not an option anymore for me, I would go for a QX9300, the price is almost same, if I ever going to upgrade my T9600.

I've only tried overclocking with nVidia system tools. Overclocking in BIOS does not exsist.

I did not get any external mic, you're lucky -.-

Hello people. Just wondering if anyone of you installed windows xp on qosmio x300. I tried doing it but I have some problem with drivers. Problems that I seem to not be able to find solutions are the touch buttons and fn keys! If anyone knows how to fix them I would be very thankfull since I will be able to run older games that only run in windows xp due to direct sound.

So compatibility mode doesn't work for them or do you just not get any sound?

Compatibility mode doesn't work since direct sound has been removed since windows vista. Creative soundblaster has a program (alchemy) that comes around that but it doesn't work on our laptops since we dont have creative. So I would like to have a windows xp setup on my 2nd hdd if I can find all the drivers.
