I did search for palmrest with fpr b4 this, and to my surprise it's hard to find actually.
If u open ur laptop, u will notice there is a connection to a fpr.
It's a waste if we don't to use it. :)

People I would like to ask (not sure if this is the correct place but I'll give it a go) if the qosmio g50 supports the x9100 cpu or the 9800m gtx gpu or both of them together. Its power supply seems small.. (A friend of mine asked me about upgrading it but 1st not sure if he can find a 9800m gtx for a good price and 2nd I don't know if his power supply or mobo supports them). Thanks in advance.

Seriously doubt it. Don't they use the new i5, i7 processors which are different socket to the x processors?

And I reckon they have a different connector, if not a completely different card for the gpu

Edit: I was thinking of the X500 which have i5 and i7. Cpu will probably work as its also a p socket but graphics cards tend to be specific to laptop models

I saw somewhere that someone said that the f50 has the same socket as the g50 and that he managed to put a 9800m gtx in it. Though I am not sure if the power supply would handle it.. I think the port should be similar if not the same although I do not know since I do not own a g50..

They are, but no touchpad. I give it a look, and to our suprize, it does not look that easy to swap out actually, as a bit of glue or something is holding them togheter......

So can you tell me the part number so that I can order it (palmrest I mean) ? I also would be happy if u can tell me the touchpad part number! I know that they are mentioned in this forum but I am not willing to search the whole thing! :p Thanks in advance!

Lol a calculator? And with the touch pad thing, maybe you could have a go using a hot air gun on it, maybe even a hair dryer might be enough to remove it if its stuck with glue? I've never actually tried it. Anyone got any pics so I can have a proper look at how its assembled? cba with taking mine apart right now, writing up Uni reports haha.

Peanut butter with a bit of rubbing will remove the glue from stickers. Also automotive penetrating oil. (works better) The oil in the peanut butter or penetrating oil keeps the glue from being able to stick to the surface again as you rub it with a towel. I recommend using the penetrating oil. It is a lot more effective.

I would think the peanut butter would also be abrasive and more difficult to clean off! Yeah WD40 is great for removing gunk though.

Actually, the modding part is not a problem. I have several friends which do that BUT, the thing with the Qosmio is that it has no BIOS battery, in another words, no way to restore if flashing goes wrong.

My bottom cover arrived today. The shape it was in were not the best, but however, I took it apart, and replaced the parts needed with my orginal one. Which means, I still is my 'own' but, I had a stuck screw and few other small parts that needed to be replaced. I washed both my palmrest and bottom cover with boiling water :D It is clean as new, now, I need to paint it, (monday).

I'm not going to replaced the Wireless card at the moment. And/or buy a keyboard before I see laptop working again. I also removed 'modem port' as I never in my entire life have used it.

I also ran into a issue, going to post pictures later.

This therad have slowed down too much last few weeks, whats happening guys?

If our qosmio's use phoenix bios (which I believe it does, since it uses winphlash to update), you can make what is called a "crisis recovery disk" and boot from floppy disk to restore. (Obviously we would need a usb to floppy adapter)

    Try reading:
Phoenix Bios Recovery - The Elder Geek on Windows

But some with some people the shortcut mentioned to boot does not work, or is disabled, so I would try some experimenting without any flashing first (like dumping bios using the tools and seeing if the shortcuts work) or a spare. Tbh this is not something I would like to do! But I probably would cos I love the challenge :p

However, I won't waste my time with that at the moment. Painting and see if laptop still working is the next thing.

This doesn't make any sense. Are you saying that my 9800m GTX on my Intel mobo cannot be used on a nVidia mobo? I've checked out pictures between a 9700 GTS and a 9800 GTS SLI and the socket looks exactly the same size to me.

Bigempty99, also, AFAIK it is not possible to swap between SLI board GPUs. However, if you ever do so, you have to change your powersupply too.

The sockets for the GPU's in the Intel motherboards, and the Nvidia motherboards are close, but one is about 1/4 inch longer than the other.

With the sockets being a slightly different length, it also would mean that they are wired differently.

I think u have a 9700m gts gpu. That gpu had never problem in upgrading to the nvidias new drivers.. Download driver sweeper. Download from nvidia the new drivers. Then uninstall the old drivers through add/remove programs and then after installing driver sweeper restart ur pc and press f8 in order to come up with a screen selection. Select safemode. Run the driver sweeper and remove all remaining drivers. Restart pc and install the new drivers from nvidia that u already downloaded. Thats it.. Like having a fresh install of gpu drivers!

I own both i have a 711 that has a 9700m but the 706 is, sadly, hybrid power with 1 9400m and 2 9800m... by the way i don't use nvidia's latest drivers because of the problems with some games...

if ur using the 9800m GTS in SLI +9400m g onboard then when using toshiba drivers u dont get sli support because they are old. Games run on a single gpu and thus no problems. If u use the nvidia drivers SLI is utilised more fps but random freezes, black screens and crashes. The only solution is to install nvidia's latest drivers (I use 267.24 BETA which give me the most FPS) and se the gpus to be automatically downlclocked their memory clock from 799 to 750mhz. This way u utilise SLI (which gives u nearly double fps in most games) and u don't get any crashes or black screens. I had the same problem and tried to find a solution for months. This fixed the problem!! I can get 70+fps in COD Black ops and 45-60fps in SC2 ultra settings and on 1680x1050 resolution! Good luck!

This problem does not exist on the newer drivers. 267.24 and above allow you to install. Can u tell me ur gpu hardware id? I believe all the 9800m GTS SLI models are the same but since u cannot install the new drivers...
