No, you are going to have Program Files (x86) and Program Files. This is normal. 64 bit is ultimately backwards compatible with 32 bit, therefore it can run 32 bit content. However, 32 bit cannot run 64 bit programs. For example, Internet Explorer has a regular version installed and then a 64 bit version. All of the x86 and x64 programs are normal.
-
To clear it up a bit more, x64 cabinets and drivers are not fully backweards compatable. Neither are all x86 apps. However, most, not all, x86 stuff can run under an x64 OS because of WoW64. This is what allows the x86 apps to run under x64 OS. This is why most your old apps can still install and run under modern x64 OS.
Some new and modern apps made for x64 will only run under x64 and can not even load in an old fashioned x86 system such as a anti virus and brouser services.
This is why we still must have access to the x86 IE brouser, because such things like "Flash" are not fully compatable yet. By default, the old x86 is set to open from start menue, so I swap this since the x64 runs much smoother. I set my x64 IEto launch from quick launch and the x86 to open on an as needed from start menue. -
Oh man, NewEgg just raised the price of the 706 to $2200!!!! I was waiting for it to go down, not up! Wow! Guess I won't be getting one then. That really sucks.
-
[/IMG]Thanks guys, ran 3dmark vantage and got some pretty low fps says n/a for score cuz drivers are not approved for official score.
-
Yeah I hate that. I wasn't able to get an official score because of my drivers.

Is the X305-Q705 gonna be the last gaming rig based on Intel chip set for this series? I would love to see a PM45 based notebook w/ dual ATI Cross-Fire.
Also, does our X305 series utilise the Intel Turbo RAM. Do we even have the slots to add it? What about the slot to add blue-tooth and TV tuner as in some of the dolled up models for other countries? -
I personally don't favor the intel chipset. with the nvidia chipset, you get overclocking of nearly everything!! so i am very disappointed that they couldn't have had an nvidia chipset for the q701 and q705.
but in order to use the turbo RAM you need a turbo RAM slot specifically for it and im not sure that the q705 has that. and there probably is a slot for the tv tuner....
but otherwise, my main concern is adding another fan...toshiba should have had 2 in the first place. -
You can use a usb flash memory device or even better a sd memory card with a fast read/write rating 45mb/sec or better. select readyboost but you will probably not notice any difference with the x305's 4gb ddr3 already.
readyboost and turboboost are the same thing with the exception of the form factor.
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=2985&p=3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost -
yeah i used readyboost with a 1GB Sandisk SD Extreme III card, and I noticed no performance increase, maybe even a performance decrease! lol
and an SD with a 45mbs or better i don't believe exists...mine is 30mb/s and that is really as fast as they go. -
I guess I was thinking about compact flash and we don't have a slot. Yeah, I've never noticed any difference in performance with readyboost either.

I absentmindedly picked up the ac adapter by the cord and it disconnected and the power brick fell about 12'' onto the tile floor and it stopped working. Toshiba is sending me another one bit I did notice if I step on it just right it powers the laptop. I put a c clamp on the spot and going to use it till the new one comes. I think I remember reading somewhere someone else had that problem. Toshiba support was great though, got right through and done in 5 minutes. They said the new ac adapter would ship within 3-5 days. Going to have to be more careful from now on I guess, didn't know those things were that delicate. Never had any problems with ac adapters with other laptops, but never had one that was 2.2 pounds either.
-
That happened to mine once, but nothing serious happens, its just the luck...
-
Yeah, but was worried would be without the use of my computer for a week. Sent my old hp in for the hinge crack repair soon as this one arrived.
-
Bought about 8 new games today installed 3, gonna wait till I get a 2nd hard drive for the rest. So far so good though, playing without any hiccups.

But this games is not installed... -
Hey dude! I was looking for Silent Hill Homcoming for PC. Where did you get it from?
Edit: Nevermind, found out that it's only available through Steam. -
I created a new thread for it but figured I'd post it here as well. This is the drive bracket for the 2nd drive on the Qosmio X300/X305:
http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000061070.aspx
Fits perfectly
No more foam holding in the 2nd drive
-
Thanks for the link. I will probably get that and a second fan...
But shipping is expensive and there is only 1 option!!!
Also I just got my NZXT Cryo, and wow the temperatures dropped. My CPU idles at 114-120 and my GPU 118-122. Before my CPU would idle around 125-130 and my GPU 135-149 (149 is when the fans kick in)
At load running Prime 95 my CPU would hit up to 170, and running the ATI Tool graphic would make it go to 185-190. With the cooler, my CPU didn't go above 136 and my GPU 147...and I ran the benchmarks for 20 min with the cooler and without it on the same table with the same temps in the house, around 70F. And these temp drops are with the fans on max. Overall I am impressed with the NZXT. It has very good build quality and definitely does its job! I may not even use the Arctic Silver!
I recommend the NZXT Cryo for all x305 users! -
The caddys from Toshiba usually cost $13.99, this one only costs $5, but the shipping is expensive. It's UPS 2nd day, it got here to NY fast.
Thanks for the info on the NZXT Cryo. Where did you purchase yours?
Thanks -
No problem...and I got mine from Newegg, $10 off as its on sale now....
-
NZXT Cryo and new egg rocks.so glad they got
www.newegg.ca just for me -
It's $15 off right now on Newegg. *buys*
-
Nice, congrats on your purchase. Its guaranteed that you will like it
-
New Bios for the X305's today, versions 1.30 and 1.40. Didn't see anything about RAID or CPU clocks.
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?origin=new&ct=DL -
?? I have version 1.70 that came out almost a month ago.
-
Looks like 1.3 and 1.4 are for the 706 and 708 models. Wonder why two BIOS versions on the same day? I already installed 1.4.
-
I think those only applies for some x305s, mine is a x305-q701, and the latest bios version is 1.7...
-
Yeah, then it just applies to certain q708's, for sure the q706.
-
-
Man, that's really low...but you could overclock your processor, or underclock it...and change your memory frequencies, etc. all because of that nvidia chipset. intel needs to come up with something for laptops like this. this qosmio x305 is too much of a beast to be revoked its rights of being an overclocked monster...it has the ability and it should be able to be overclocked..intel needs to do something.
-
Hello guys & gals
posted this b4 but very poor response
I'm new to the laptop scene and have just purchased the much loved and hated Toshi Qosimo.
THIS is the lappy i have purchased. some talk about this 706 i don't really understand if its the same as this one but i hope you can clear me up.
I should expect delivery some time this week possibly Friday.
I have read almost every review saying it has all this BLOATWARE on it and would like to know what i should discard. I also have Vista Ultimate waiting to install so ill have the 64bit running. I basically would like to be mainly playing crysis, battlefield and Americas army. Also a bit of video work and watching movies off.
Could any one that has the same lappy that has great knowledge PLEASE post,PM or email me what setting and adjustments i need to get this thing running super hard.
So any additional programs to make it quicker and to overclock it would be good, i also would like to throw in 8GB of the ddr3 2400 ram but where do i get it from?
Also ive never played Crysis but its looks a great game, if anyone out there has the same unit and plays it BF and AA also pm me id like to get a TS server going and get a new team together.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post/thread and hope you can assist me with the problems.
Thanks
Dasko76 -
hey , glad to have ya here Dasko, according to the description of what you purchased, you have the, X305-701, the first series of this laptop set.
-
Welcome, and congratulations on your purchase. I have the X305-Q701, since I purchased it, I have learned an immense amount of knowledge about it. with an overclock to the video card I run Crysis at 1440*900 (no AA) with all but two settings on high. I made a copy of the drivers, then formatted and clean installed a fresh copy of Vista, so I dont know about the bloatware. I do know that this thing can play games, and since I've added a seconday fan, it can game even better.
-
-
Dasko, I would not suggest adding 8GB of RAM. 8GB will not be really different than 4GB, and it will be close to the price of the laptop itself.
At first boot, the Windows Vista Home Premium OS on the computer allows for either 32 bit or 64 bit. Once you select it is permanent. However, if you would like to save your certain files and install ultimate, i suggest that you copy the Toshiba and TOSAPINS folder onto a memory stick or some device like that. Then format your hard drive through the bios, and put the disc in at next boot and install ultimate. -
i like the fan mods,i did similar but only on the outside
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8400 hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 47°C (116°F) [0x35] (Core #0)
Temperature sensor 1 48°C (118°F) [0x34] (Core #1)
Temperature sensor 0 54°C (129°F) [0x36] (GPU Core)
Temperature sensor 0 31°C (87°F) [0x1F] (HDD)
before my temps were at least 20 degrees higher.hurray for................hm...air.....heh -
hi guys, thanks for the response.
Well it didnt arrive they said it was picked up today, i looked at the price of that ram and dammm its crazy, cheaper to upgrade.
I will leave it stock just tweak it and throw 64bit ultimate on it.
will keep u guys posted...

I just found this forum and read through all 44 pages of this thread. Lots of good info here. I've had my Q305-701 since early November, got it for 949 dollars at Best Buy. It's a pretty nice laptop. I share most of the sentiments here, bulky, keyboard is.... different. However, most post people here say that theirs doesn't run very hot. In my experience, mine is like a little portable room heater!
Anyway, it's always a trip using someone elses typical 15" laptop after I've used mine for a week or two...it's like the 15" one is a little kids toy or something.
-
glad you got an x305, just get the NZXT cryo cooler, its $15 off on newegg at $55. This cooler is absolutely amazing, my temps drop like crazy, around 40 degrees F for both the CPU and GPU...
-
Any early x300/x305 owners upgrade the Wi-Fi link card yet? Any known big benifits using the Intel 5300 in each N and G modes?
-
I downloaded the Crysis benchmarking tool but can't really figure out how to get results. Was able to take a screenshot. The framerate drops when clicking snipping tool but it runs between 30-40 fps.
-
-
can we start a list of known apps and stuff we can safely remove from the Toshiba Vista install w/o having to do clean install? For example, I want to use my own client antivirus so I need to remove windows Defender and Norton. Also, I have my onw Office 2007 but w/ different key and this one doesn't take. Do I get new key or just reinstall my own?
I only have Vista Business x64 and that's fine but what really will I loose other then the media center stuff? Is Vista Business to much for a notebook install or should I just get Ultimate and do a light selective install? -
-
Nice Scores...
-
Hey thanks, cq842000, ran HWMonitor with 3dmark vantage--
-
Have you seen the insides of you laptop before? I'm trying to find out if the SLI 9800mGTS are actually dual cards, or single card.
-
No, haven't taken apart yet, waiting for CPU upgrade. Thinking about something like you did with a T9600 because of the price. I bought a x9100 from Lagoom for $882 but something went wrong so I cancelled the order. Never bought anything from them before and was quick on the trigger to cancel when couldn't find a number for customer service readily available. What makes you think it's a single card, the low scores compared to a single 9800m gts?
-
No, because Toshiba tends to stick to a standardized schematic, except for chipsets through all it's models. A word of advice, when system building, I have spent thousands through http://www.tigerdirect.com and http://www.newegg.com . Very reliable businesses, with very fast service. In closing, your scores are fine, your gpu is almost double mine, as it should be, and most people dont realize that on ORB, when you score, you are being compared to desktop scores as well, so anything past the fifth bar is good.
