I really hate to change the subject here, but i have been reading though this entire thread, and got to a portion of that that was back in the 1.60 bios days.
I kept reading, and the topic changed. I have tried googling, but nothing shows up.
Background info.
It appears that the Bios for the GPU's of the 9800GTS's in the SLI x305-q706 730i chipset(I think its 730) are different.
One is like .16 and one is .17
Is there any way to flash them to be the same? Will it matter if they are the same?
Also, someone had a modified bios that set the 9800GTS's to the Primary cards, instead of the 9400 being the primary, this bios set the 9400 as the slave..which is what I would like to accomplish.
I'm very much out of place asking this, but i assure you have i tried searching, and reading this thread, and could find nothing.
Thank you for your time.

My friend, I had the single card model and my BIOS version were 1.6. Now, the only diffrence I think it's between those BIOS is the 1.7 ability to actually read the SLI confugration. Now, you can ask a member named Kizwan from ACER BIOS modding section. He is the guru in BIOS as far as I know, and I'm sure he'll be glad to help.
But as I said, I think that is the only diffrence. But then again, if it is anything else, I would be glad to know. -
Thank you for the quick reply.
Yeah, i saw a few of Kizwan's posts and others discussing his bios. There was one fellow here that goes by the name of Arcean who had posted some info about having a modded bios which put the 9400m as a slave device.
Also, I had some questions regarding the different BIOS versions on the GPU itself..
62.94.50.00.17 for one 9800m GTS
62.94.50.00.16 for another 9800m GTS
So, would it perhaps help with crashes/performance issues if both had the same bios?
IF so, is it possible to back up the bios from one, and flash it to the other? -
For that you must be able to do a recovery flash, in case it goes bad. And be aware that there is no BIOS battery in our models. I really don't suggest messing around with the BIOS, if you want the 9400M as slave, P.M Kizwan and ask if he can mod the BIOS that way. If not, flashing the 0.16 BIOS could turn your laptop into a omlette.
-
Well, I'm sure hes had the same PM a million times, im currious if anyone has such a file.
Also, i'm talking about Video card bioses when talking about this:
62.94.50.00.17 for one 9800m GTS
62.94.50.00.16 for another 9800m GTS
The SLI cards, have 2 diff bios versions..which is weird.
I used NVFLASH to dump the roms, and when looking at them.
the .17 version appears to be an "engineering release"
The timings and everything all seems to be the same..but, I'm thinking, what if I flash the .17 with the same rom as the .16 so that they both have matching roms...would that increase stability?
EDIT: well, I did flash the vbios to the .16 versions...i don't notice much of a difference, however I do notice that I don't seem to have a lag line horizontally across my screen anymore.
The sad part: I still can't access my SLI configuration via NVIDIA control panel ever since i updated my drivers. Its really annoying. -
WOW, about that, I have no idea.. I were even not able to read my vBIOS
-
Its really easy, just download NVFLASH for windows...and then from command line just type nvflash --save file.bin
It will scan all of ur GPU's and ask you which one you wanna dump..
was super ez -
I had a single 9800M GTX, never had any reason to overclock it really. But I've have done that on my ACER. 3dMark etc. still givin you same results? What about tempratures?
-
Well, I didn't overclock the card or anything, I just wanted both bios's to be the same versions.
I still don't know how to set up the master/slave issue for SLI and 9400M in the hybrid.. -
have you tried the modified BIOS file? That one Kizwan posted few years ago I think.. Maybe you can get someone to simiulate or ask if the option is enabled?
-
Man, I just ran 3dmark vantage 1.10 professional.
on extreme i got a score of
x1298
does that mean..lol
Some of the screens didn't look right either, not artifacted..but like..the commands were not proper.. -
Okay, there you go, something isin't right. You flashed back now or what?
-
I never really got a good score in those 3d applications, and its always been corrupted..
The vbios change really isn't going to change that. All I did was put the same version on both GPU's.
I think the problem stems from the fact that the computer still is seeing the 9400M as the primary video card, so its sending commands to the card that would be performed by the 9400M and the 9800M GTS doesn't understand it.
I really need to find a 1.80 Bios that sets the 9800M GTS's as the primary. Would be fantastic. -
Asking at bios-modders or Kizwan is your only way out I think. Never found anyone else who really knows so much about BIOS modding and stuff like that...
-
I tried to find a solution for ages about setting the 9800m SLI as the primary gpu and 9400 as a slave. Not much help from anyone. I have had many instabilities and crashes. Temps was not the problem. I never tried what u did with having the same bios on the gpus but I have underclocked my memory clock from 799 to 770mhz. This fixed the instabilities and made it possible to run games with SLI on this machine. If u find a solution let me know as I am really interested!
-
FIRST OFF:
If you do what I did. DO NOT FLASH BOTH CARDS WITH THE "17" Rom...Your computer will do funny things. I'm thinking that the "16" rom must be more stable. My cards were not showing up properly, and the drivers would not install properly it was horrible. So I was able to make a start up disk and flash them via dos.
Yeah, I mean it occurs to me that this is the problem(Slave/master being messed up), which is why the cards are all messed up, and the drivers don't really know what to do with them.
I am not really able to run anything except in Single GPU. mode, which sucks. I mean its ok but, it still annoys me.
I have come across another problem. One of my GPU's is getting SUPER hot. Like 40C over the other. I used multiple programs to probe it, and it seems like its a real temp. I'm going to disassemble and put down some more thermal compound this weekend and see how that goes. It was running fine, but now it seems to have picked up heat.(This has nothing to do with the vbios flashes)
If I could even find a way to disable the 9400M completely it would be great..lol.
EDIT:
I just ran some tests using GPU-Z and even the Nvidia monitor. One of my cards GPU's goes up to around 105 and climbs..while the other stays at about 50. Is this a fan problem? What is going on? Its quite irritating. I may disassemble and re apply the heatsinks/thermal paste this weekend and hope that fixes it. I underclocked my chip to 750 memory speed. and it seems to be running a lot better I can run something different than "Single GPU mode" -
Hi guys,
Does anyone know which heatsink the Q706 model comes with?
Thanks!
GTK -
Well I had the exact same problems, although my gpu even under stress (by the gpu stressing program furmark if I am not mistaken) got up to 100c. If you can just put the bios of the gpus as they were in the beginning. After that install the latest drivers. After install nvidia system tools (I have version 6.06 I dont know if there is a new one but this one works!). Then go to nvidia control panel select performance/device settings/gpu and select one by one the 9800m GTS. Reduce the memory clock from 799 to 770 on both. Then save it to a profile (I saved mine in my documents in nvidia folder just to remember the place). Then go to profile policies and set the profile to load on startup of ur computer (explorer.exe). And thats it game run fine in SLI! both gpus get up to 80c and their difference is 0-7c which is logical! So here u go u have a solution. It took me a year to find a way to find a workaround to the sli problem. I believe that the pci express doesnt support the bandwidth of the SLI setup and thus the problems of freezing etc. If u use the official toshiba drivers u have only 1 gpu working (no sli support in new games) and thus no crashes. If u install the new drivers with sli support then here u come with either lines and pixels on screen or with random crashes. My solution works 100%. Just check it out urself! Toshiba could not find a solution to this (although I still have warranty) and took them 3months to tell me that my laptop is old and thats why it can't play games such as call of duty black ops. I proved them otherwise though! My pc can play any new game with this adjustment! I hope u find this useful!
-
Hey thanks for the advice.
What i did was just set the bios clock speeds at 750Mhz for the memory.
So, Mine are like that anytime. I didn't need to set a profile or anything.
But, still the cards are messing up. I think its about time to give up on this laptop.
Anyone interested in buying it for parts? everything works on it. -
Excuse me mods, but I also have this laptop as parts and a 9800M GTX, if anybody is intrested
-
If u have a qx9300 then I am interested..
-
Where do you live judgment? Then I'm maybe intrested in your X9100 if I get good price.
-
Currently in uk!
You can find the X9100 on ebay cheap so I don't think u should wait for me to buy the qx9300!
-
Ah, UK is long away from here... No, I wanted urs because ur awesome
lol, nah, I though you maybe wanted to get rid of it.. I'm most likely going to exchange my T9900 (which is used for about 4 months) for a X9100 new.. Oh well.. -
Yeah thx!
I know I will want to get rid of it but I still haven't got my qx9300 and if I dont get it the next 2 weeks I'll have to wait until xmas cz I have lots of work for uni so cant be bothered to open the laptop.
-
If you want more performance, why don't you overclock your x9100?
-
Hi Guys,
I have a Toshiba Qosmio X300-130. What hardware upgrades can I do ? I tried searching over the net and couldn't find anyone that did a GPU or CPU upgrade so far. I know I can do the RAM upgrade but i'm more interested in the GPU and CPU ones.
Many thanks for your help !
My stock specs are:

In some games I have! I reached the 4ghz but I only run it on that speed for testing stability. I don't want to risk it running on that high for long. Moreover I believe if I get a qx9300 and overclock it to 3ghz will be more than enough I will ever need.
-
Hello! As far as I know you can update ur cpu up to a quad core qx9300, and ur gpu to a 9800m GTX. Only problem is finding the gpu for qosmio x300 as it is different from the other brands. About the cpu u will also need to change the heatsink and if you do not have the 2nd fan u will have to install it. I don't have a qosmio with the intel chipset so the cpu upgrade is up to what I have read from others. About the gpu I am sure u can go up to the 9800m GTX if u find one of course.
-
I have a 9800M GTX if, P.M. if you're intrested my friend. And for the rest pretty much as my dear friend judgment said. You can upgrade RAM to 8GB 1066Mhz, CPU to a QX9300 or T9900 if you don't need more then dual core.
-
I have a x305-715 with a loud fan mostly at startup or when the losd increases. Does anyone know if the cpu and gpu fan are the same? Any idea what the part numbers are? Thanx!
-
Well I don't know ur model so no idea if it has the two fans, but here are the part numbers (although posted earlier in the forum):
CPU, CPU/VGA 35w Heatsink = K000063160
CPU, CPU/VGA 45w Heatsink = K000063170
CPU, CPU/VGA 45w fan = K000061940
I don't remember the cpu fan part number for less than 45w cpu but this one should work better even if u have a less powerful cpu. -
Thanks for the info judgement. I also remembered I have a month to go on my extended/accidental damage warranty with "Service net".
-
Hi Guys,
I have 1 QX9300 I am looking to sell... Anyone interested? PM offers. I am in Texas ATM.
Also, anyone know which heatsink comes on the 706 model? -
I also have the same warrenty, let us know how your experience is... I have about 11months left on mine.
-
I've used it already about a year ago. It worked great. I told them that I cracked the LCD and they shipped me a box , I packed it up and sent it in. I think from the time I made the first call to them until the day I got it back was 2 1/2 weeks. I was pleased with the way it went. I just called them today and a packing box is on the way!
-
The fan is meant to be like that in this model. At start up it justs tests to see if the fan works, and then yeah under load its gonna need some cooling. If I'm just web browsing/word processing my fan actually turns off and it cools passively, but not when its on my lap lol then it chokes and overheats.
I actually put another fan in, just a generic small Toshiba laptop one and wired it into the same source as the main fan for some extra cooling. When they kick in the temp drops quite dramatically now, before it would struggle (say when gaming) and just stay at 60C slowly increasing until it cut out. -
Without going through 400+pages of comments here, I tried installing 8 gig of new ram and my computer seemed to run really crappy. Do I need to upgrade the system BIOS to get it to work or what. Its an X305-Q705. Any help would be appreciated.
-
Yes, update your BIOS but that can't be the issue.. I would check for faulty RAM...
-
Does anyone know which BIOS version I should install before I call Edge to see what's up with their RAM? I am running Vista 64bit. Everything else is stock.
-
Edge? What kind of RAM is that?
Can you tell me your spesiciations of the RAM and give me a screenshot of WEI?
You should go for the lastest available for your model. -
Computers can be picky about what brands of memory they will work with. Look in the manuals for even the newest motherboards and you will see a list of accepted brands of ram for that system. It is extremely common for a system to not function correctly if a brand of ram is used in it that it does not like.
Not all ram is created equally, even if the specs are the same, some chips just will not work on some systems due to differences in the way they are made. -
This is why I always ask for what kind of RAM. Sadly, most of people here don't know this and always say "RAM is RAM, go for the cheapest one" sadly, that isin't true.
-
Thats y I buy ram that has a at least 7 days return policy!
-
I always buy RAM with lifetime warrany! Beat that!
-
Lifetime warranty is different to return and get your money back! But I have to agree with you I always buy ram with a lifetime warranty though lifetime is as far as they are still being produced!
-
Yeah, but you can atleast get a replacement lol
-
I buy Kingston memory from a local shop and they have a great return policy on it there. If you bought the memory there and you ever have a problem with it, you can return it there at any time for replacement, or even a full refund if you still have the original packaging.
-
That's how it should be.
-
How powerful is the fastest X305 model?
They seem to still hold their own pretty well today even.
