It is nothing such as fastest. The X300 based modell with Intel chipset combined with QX9300 and 9800M GTX featuring 8GB RAM and SSD drive will be the best X300 you can get. But you'll have to upgrade it yourself as such a model were never sold.
I agree on that they are still doing very well. I still do have the beast 9800M GTX if anyone is interested.
-
I believe that the 9800m GTS SLI is a faster version! Plus it has an nvidia board that allows overclock!
-
nVidia board failed with QX9300, someone confirmed that many many pages back here...
Also, all the issues Qosmio/Toshiba SLI setup have created for you? I would rather go with a 9800m GTX.
You can always overclock a QX9300 with ThorttleStop
No matter Intel or nVidia board
-
Hey Buddy, I have an x300 14u and although not a complete novice to overclocking I have had no luck overclocking this laptop.
I noticed you have overclocked your cpu I was wondering if you would be kind enough to tell me how you did this please.
!st time poster in this forum and indeed in any forum ever believe it or not, thanks in advance for your time. -
What CPU do you have Kloon?
If you have a Extreme CPU, Q or QX, take a look here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...unlock-core-2-extreme-multiplier-windows.html
If not, FSB overclock isin't possible. True unless you have nVidia Chipset.
Download CPUZ for your chipset information..
Trust me, I've have the Intel chipset and have been searching everybit and done everything to get the datasheet, they don't let uss. -
I have the QX9300 cpu, its so frustrating as I know it can handle being overclocked. Yeah shame we have no datasheet!!!
-
You can overclock the QX9300 from Windows as far as I know. Have you checked the link above? Also take a look at ThorttleStop.
Out of curiosity, what on the earth you need more then QX9300 for? Do you do heavy tasks? Like gaming or photoshop? If you want a performance increase, you'll be much better of with a SSD drive, or more RAM and turn off PageFile. -
I use it for gaming but I guess your right it does not really need overclocking. I have just bought 8gigs of ram. I just wanted to see if it was possible, I have tried throttlestop but I dont really get whats going on and dont want cook my cpu. yes I have read the guide
Thanks for your help mate. -
Unless you have the 9800M GTX or SLI settup, I would look out for the GPU. But again, Toshiba have limited everybit. I could not get high stable clocks for my GPU as in most random situations it crashed.
I have a 9800M GTX for Intel Chipset, let me know if you're intrested. -
True SLI had problems! Now is faster than any other x300 setup though. A qx9300 does work on nvidia motherboard. Don't know if it has to do with the revision but I have a friend with the nvidia borad and the qx9300. I am still considering to buy it and test it myself but I have not found a cheap one yet! I want the oem one so u get the picture..
-
Yeah, I do. Whatever, I've read that nVidia did not handle a QX9300 but well, maybe that one was faulty.
-
I have a QX9300 with a X305-Q706 and no problems here...
-
What is the part number for the second Fan. Mine only came with one fan
-
Is this the second fan part number K000067450
X305-Q705 internal fan works sometimes? - Toshiba Forums -
Beware on some models there is no socket for the second fan to plug into. The space on the motherboard is there, but it is deactivated. I did this with mine. At POST you hear the fan spin, but when booted up it is ignored. I ended up wiring it in parallel with the main fan.
-
Which one of these fans is Correct?
K000061950
Toshiba THERMAL FAN 2, DUAL, VGA - K000061950
K000067450
Toshiba THERMAL FAN GTX VGA - K000067450
X305-Q705 internal fan works sometimes? - Toshiba Forums -
Which version do u have ? and yes sometimes the 2nd fan is disabled through motherboard depending from the version u have but u can connect both through the same port with some modification.
-
I am trying to figure out which Second Fan is Correct -
I had overheating problems so I ordered and changed both of my fans. Now under full load I have 70c on cpu and 70-75c on both gpus. I can give u the part numbers so that u can order the 2nd fan! Here:
CPU/VGA 45w fan = K000061940
GPU 2nd fan = K000061950
I have listed them before but if this helps..
You can order from Notebook Solutions, Parts, Service & Support or http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com
PS I have the dual gpu qosmio x300 (dual 9800m GTS in SLI) so I don't know if u need a different part number.
I hope this helped.. -
Can anyone post the part number of the 1680x1050 screen?
-
Hello,
I have x300-16D nvidia chipset and upgraded with qx9300 oem version ram samsung 8gb 1333 (only nvidia chipset accept this type of ram from x305-x300 series). I have put thermal pads from MXM on Cpu and 2 Gpus (Sli 9800 gts) and everything are perfect....The maximum heat is variable and is up the Graphic Driver that i am using.
-
Greetings folks!
I have been using this thread for a while now to help with issues on my x305-q701, but now I have come to an impasse.
(Side note: I have a bachelor's in computer science so the easy answers have already been tried... bear in mind.)
I just got a new hard drive and did a new install of Windows 7 64-bit a few days ago. Everything works. However I seem to have the same problem tunay here had back in 2009. My MaxxAudio 3 control interface is not showing up in the realtek hd audio manager. As some of you may know, the sound went from amazing to flat and hollow-sounding. I can live with it for now but... it's really bugging me, and I would appreciate any suggestions (beyond the obvious and easy answers).
What I have tried:
a fresh OS install with the default drivers
a fresh OS install with the latest realtek drivers
a fresh OS install with the factory toshiba drivers (in windows 7 and vista compatibility modes)
a fresh OS install with the pre-2.40 HD audio drivers from realtek
a fresh OS install with the vista drivers (in windows 7 and vista compatibility modes)
I have also tried all the suggestions I've found with hours and hours of googling, including the automatic toshiba software installers, and manually updating the driver by pointing at an extracted version on my desktop. I created this forum login to solve this problem. I generally do not bother posting on forums unless I have exhausted every other resource on the internet. I've even tried downloading versions 6 - 8 of the latest waves maxxaudio plugin .dll's from the company's site (I even made an account there to get it).
My MaxxAudio files show up in the windows/system32 folder, but they do not seem to work, as the MaxxAudio tab is not in the realtek HD Audio Manger. I have spent at least 20 man-hours researching this, and approximately another 30 hours attempting the various combinations of driver installations. MaxxAudio worked great in Vista. I also had the option to pick 4-speaker setup in the control panel. But Windows 7 has broken it, seemingly permanently.
I would worship anyone that can come up with a working solution for me. I might even sacrifice an ox in your name.
-
You have to install the 1.95 from toshiba.com for vista. Run it on compbilitiy mode for vista.
That is the only solution. Let me know if you can't find it. I can send it over to by Skype or something
the X300 isint worth using without the right driver and everything with sound working properly.
Sent from my iPhone. -
Oh, btw, YOU DO HAVE TO INSTALL THAT ON A CLEAN OS WITHOUT ANY PREVIUS SOUND DRIVERS.
-
Hi,
Just out of interest, did you also use those thermal pads on the Nvidia MCP chip (the other chip with heatsink on the same thermal module as the CPU)? How did that work?
I'm was having an overheating issue with my x300-16D and wanted to change the paste on the CPU (to Arctic Silver 5 or similar), but there is a large gap between the Nvidia MCP and heatsink which are on the same module and paste does not seem suitable for that... I guess most people use a pad for that? What pad thickness do you find the best (the stock Toshiba pads look around 3mm...)?
Chris -
For pads look at High grade thermal material.
I was put 2 pieces of them on Nvidia Mcp chip, 2 on cpu (Qx9300) 1 for each core, and 1 for each Nvidia 9800gts main chip. Thickness is 1mm.
-
I have a X305-Q706 and I told the Toshiba on-site guy to install MX-3 thermal paste when installing my QX9300 and have had no issues so far... I didn't notice pads initially... Is there a place within the US that sells these?

Hello! My qosmio x300 mobo was burned so I returned to toshiba for warranty. Since it was the 4th time to return it they gave me a brand new x300-14x (same model as mine) and transfered my hdd in it (it was there last one). Now I do not have any sli problems even at the default clocks (so no need to downclock to 770 from 799). The issue I have now is that the 1 9800m runs at 65-70c just by browsing. cpu 25c and the other 9800 at 40c and 9400 at 50c. I have run Call of duty black ops (everything maxed up) for hrs and the temps dont go above 72 for both gpus. The problem is that while browsing the temps of the 1 9800 is 65-70c which for me seems unusual. I cant return it until easter since I am going back to uk to continue my studies. Can this be software related? Any options? My old one used to run both gpus at 45c
-
Okay I sorted out the problem. It was just software. Sorry for bothering you!
-
Sounds good Judgement! Glad to hear Toshiba gave you a newer unit!
-
guys which version of gpu drivers do u use? I tried installing the latest 285.62. Although installation goes fine the drivers are not installed cz its like having no drivers installed. I was using the 267.24 which were very good but thought I would get better results updating. PS thanks alex! This laptops rocks.. Its what I should have had when I bought mine! Though I don't want to jinx it!
-
Did a fresh install on my 2nd hdd. Still the latest drivers from nvidia do not install 285.62 . Installation goes through but after restart is as if it was never installed. 285.26 installed perfectly though and gave me a 7,1 windows experience. Anyone else tried the 285.62? PS 285,26 seem to be very stable and working properly!
-
I have done a fresh install and did install the driver vesion u suggested. I still have only stereo as option for speakers bt maxaudio is back!
any other suggestions to get the option of choosing 4,1?

Hello guys. I have formated the new qosmio they gave me. it is the SLI model with the mcp79 (nvidia) motherboard. When laptop running on battery and 9400m I am able to adjust brightness. When on dual 9800m gts I cannot. I have installed latest chipset driver,TVAP, Flash cards, (different gpu drivers from toshiba and nvidia) and bios was already to the latest 1.80 . So anyone knows how to fix this? I had this before on my old laptop and called toshiba uk and told me to update bios. After I did that my brightness was adjustable. I tried reinstalling bios but it does not allow me as I have the latest. Any input would be appreciated.
-
Anyone knows how to reinstall bios or reset them ?
-
Not to my knowledge. BTW, when you sent your machine in, did you return to stock?
-
Laptop is running everything in stock with no problem. Before I used to underclock 30mhz the memory clock of the GPUs (due to instabilities) but that was done through nvidia software so nothing was changed from hardware eg gpu bios. The new laptop given to me works fine without me modifying anything. Only problem is the brightness function which works in windows vista but not in windows 7. Actually works also in windows 7 when it is on the 9400m G onboard gpu whereas on vista works for both dedicated 9800m SLI and 9400 (this problem was supposedly fixed in bios 1.80 but guess what, this laptop is already on bios 1.8 and the UK toshiba service didn't know what was wrong)... Moreover the 2nd 9800m GTS can go up to 70c when I am just surfing the web (without a reason) but when in game or stress test it it goes as high as 60c. This is weird and makes me believe that there is a problem with the bios. I am returning it back during easter vacations for a repair. I hope they can fix it this time.
-
My next laptop will obviously not be a toshiba! I am looking at the dell alienware (probably next year or if my laptop is not fixed by toshiba).
-
Thank you Tunay for your guidance. I was unfortunately unable to bring back full 4.1 functionality back for windows 7, but I got an alternative sound enhancer utility (starts with a D... can't remember the name) and that seems to have polished out the sound for the most part.
In other news, my x305-q701 has just received:
1. cpu heatsink upgrade to 45w unit (heat pipe is twice as thick!)
2. brand new T9900 @ 3.06GHz installed
3. dedicated GPU fan
4. 8GB RAM
I am curious if anyone here has added the second fan into their units that didn't have them originally, and has any insight or commentary to offer. My motherboard does not have the plug for the fan power, nor does it have the fan mounts on the board for the second fan.
I was just about to jimmy-rig this fan in there with some loctite and a trip to the hardware store, but I was wondering if folks found a source for the screws and mounts for the second fan.. "official" parts as it were. I searched sparepartswarehouse but their descriptions are a bit vague. If I could use the parts that were purpose engineered I'd feel a lot better than finding something that "just works".
Also, for the person looking for the 1680x1050 screen, do an ebay search for "x305 wsxga". There are some up for sale right now for $89.00!! I am also considering the Atheros Killer Wireless-N 1102 card... $45 for true wireless N (the q701 came with a draftN) and enhancements to reduce ping and software to manually dedicate bandwidth on a per-application basis. What have you all heard on this one? -
Hello again my friend,
What you need then is this: http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/dcc-20080725110315.zip
Let me know how it goes, and we should be able to figure it out!
-
Actually judgment this for me sounds like a problem like the fans do not kick in while idling. Do they kick in? Also, do not forget that everything can affect this. Your room temprature, surface, powersource, powerplan and so on.. But glad to hear you got your laptop replaced. Good that Toshiba after 5 years did one thing right about the X300
-
Any one have knowledge on which cpu heatsink is on the Q706? I want going to do a cpu heatsink upgrade??
Much appreciate the assistance! -
While running AV scan
and browsing
9800M - 51C max...
9400M chipset 70C max... -
Hi all could do with a hand here.
i have a toshiba x300 here that i replaced the graphics card in (well and truly dead)
now the problem is that it doesnt power on.
what happens is that your press the power button and the hdd and sd card lights come on the fans spin and the disk drive does its clunk thing then the laptop turns off nothing more nothing less.
any suggestions? -
Actually 9400 stays at 50c idle and goes up to 70c while gaming. The thing is that while surfing the web etc the 2nd 9800m GTS goes up to 70c because fans do not kick in (while the 1st one stays at up to 50c which is not normal). While gaming max temperature is 65c and under stress test 70c (but the 1st gpu stays 1-5c more than the 2nd one which is normal). So I think is something to do with my bios. Moreover the brightness settings under windows 7 do not work when using the sli but work on 9400m though in windows vista works fine. Any ideas would be helpful
-
Judgment, why don't you just sell your Qosmio as it is and buy yourself something that actually works?
However, back to your issue, About the GPUs, have you checked your heatsink. BIOS issue does not sound all that wrong to be to be honest, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is caused by a faulty heatsink.. -
Well I have no idea if the heatsink is the problem but if that was the case it should overheat even under load. I talked with toshiba and they said they will fix it when I return back to my country in easter. On my old qosmio x300 brightness didn't work again. When installed the new bios everything worked fine. Thus I am thinking that its something wrong with the bios.
-
I see, have you been able to reinstall your BIOS yet?
-
PM me. I have a couple of questions about these thermal pads.
GTK -
Gotimekill or anyone that can help. I have the x305-q706 and want to upgrade it to the qx9300, but have a few questions.
Did you see a large step up in performance?
Besides the chip what else do I need to get? (better heat sync, fan...)
Do you need to make any BIOS adjustments when you install it? (power settings maybe?)
How hard was it to install and do you have any guides that you used or any tips?
Sorry for all the questions I'm just really nervous about doing this. I don't want to brick the laptop.
Is this the right chip to get?
Intel® Core?2 Extreme Processor QX9300, SLB5J, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 12M Cache | eBay
Only reason I ask is someone mentioned to stay away from ES models. Not sure what that means.
Thanks for any help you can give.
