PS toshiba still does not know why my brightness cannot be adjusted when in SLI mode in windows 7.. It is too strange for me since under vista I can adjust it.. And I have the latest bios.. I have chipset, display, vap, flashcards and toshiba utilities installed but I still cant adjust it.. Any ideas?
-
Judgement. If you do a search for toshiba qosmio fix. THere is a guy named Lord NOD if you give him you model number and such he will send you a zip file that will fix the problem that we have with the sli cards. It is 25 dollars, but it does work I promise you. I went ahead and payed the money and was a little hesitant to do it, but I am glad that I did. The only thing that you have to do is redo it when you update the video card drivers.
-
Oh by the way I put in 8GB of PC3 10666 and it found and uses all of it.
-
That guy is found to be a hoax! Anws I do not have a problem with SLI! All games work perfectly fine giving me good fps no crashes etc. Only problem is with my brightness not adjusting when on the SLI. Really its not that of a big problem but on my previous exact same model it was working and in windows vista it works now but not in 7 (Toshiba replaced my laptop due to a bad motherboard+gpu). On my previous qosmio x300 which was the exact same model I had problem with the SLI. When in sc2 it used to give black lines and some times black screen in COD (any version) use to crash etc. I had to underclock memory by 50mhz from 799 to 750 and it worked perfectly. What I have found out is that there are two revisions of the nvidia motherboard. So the new laptop toshiba gave me must have the newer version and thus works perfectly except of the brightness.. When in the power saving mode 9400m G brightness works fine...

demonikpanther which nvidia drivers are you using? Do you have windows 7 64bit? Can u let me know the following version of drivers that u use?
Chipset ?
Display driver?
VAP?
Flashcards?
Utilities?
THANKS!! -
Do you have windows 7 64bit? Can u let me know the following version of drivers that u use? Windows 7 64 bit ultimate
Chipset ? Nvidia Nforce 740i
Display driver? Was using the newest ones whql then the beta ones. Now using the 270 ones you were using.
VAP? Don't know what this is
Flashcards? or this
Utilities? not using any.
Im just trying to get mine running decent for D3 -
Link for the chipset driver?
-
-
I have that installed but I can still not adjust brightness :/
-
That lord nod guy is a scammer.
He runs around posting all over the place that he has the fix for all kinds of graphics card issues, and all he is doing is selling people a reverse engineered version of riva tuner that you can download for free.
He has been banned from a lot of forums, including the US Toshiba forum where I am a user moderator. -
Good info Priest! Thank you for letting us know
-
So anyone knows about my current problem? Windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I have installed all drivers in the correct order. I have bios 1.80 but my brightness will not change when on the SLI mode. Windows vista works fine though. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I was thinking of what if I reset the bios. Though I have tried pressing the power button for 30secs without the battery (didn't do the trick). Anyone who has the SLI model and knows a way to fix it??
-
the solution for that is probably a clean instalation of w7. I have never had related problems, but i usually dont mess around with the brithness.
Anyway concerning my card overheating, it was due to a malfunctioning fan, i shouldve suspected since i have a toshiba -
Tried a clean install still brightness function doesn't work! Actually doing a clean install was the 1st thing I did. I also reinstalled vista from the recovery discs and went through the windows 7 upgrade disc that toshiba provided (including auto install drivers). Clean install or toshiba upgrade none of the methods worked. I think its something in the bios. If only I could reset my bios...
-
Its definetly not a bios problem, i have the same model as you do, and the same bios version.
If it works on vista and not on w7 the problem is obvious, somewhere, somehow, you screwed up the instalation of w7, or maybe your disc is faulty. -
I have 2 windows 7 discs. 1 is windows 7 premium and the other one is the ultimate. Both original discs 1 from toshiba and 1 from microsoft. Both same problem. So surely I did not mess any driver.. Yesterday I reformated to windows 7 ultimate and installed the drivers in the following order:
Chipset
Display driver
VAP
Flashcards
Toshiba Utilities
Still brightness cannot be adjusted while on the SLI config. If you think I messed up with the drivers or the order installing them then let me know which drivers and which order I should use and I will reformat.
PS this is the 2nd qosmio x300-14x I get from toshiba (the other one refused to turn up suddenly and it was said to be a bad motherboard). So they gave me the one from their showroom. On my previous laptop I had the same problem and bios 1.6 and updated to 1.8. This did the trick. Now I already have the 1.8 and thus cant update. So it has to be something with the bios... -
he may be a hoax, but I paid the 25 dollars and his fix fixed my problem on mine and I haven't had a problem out of it since.
================================================
I just bought a 120gb SSD for my x350-q706 on newegg for 109.99 if anyone is interested. Today only I think, my question what did you guys use to transfer from the HDD to the SSD or did you just reinstall.

anyone have the problem of the ac adapter coming unplugged from the laptop all the time. -
question. I don't think my laptop is using the 2nd 9800m gts at all. The temp never changes and I used the first post in this forum to OC them. The only clocks that change are the 9400m and the 9800m GTS? Can anyone tell me how I can find out if that second gts is bad.
-
As stated above go into nvidia control panel and choose set sli and phys x tab. Then at the top on the toolbar select 3d settings and select show sli indicator. Then run a game. If the sli indicator comes up then it means tha SLI is working. Moreover u need to have the new drivers for SLI to work with new games. If one of the 2 9800m doesnt work its quite expensive to change cz they are both on the same board... So u need a new GPU. Don't think it is worth changing it nowadays with all these high-tech notebook gpus around..
-
Hello, if anyone follows this forum. I have all the bios that were available for the qosmio x300 SLI version. Does anyone know if or how I can flash it back to any of the previous bios or even the latest one?
-
Hello everyone!
So my x300 (9700M GTS) has the black screen problem
Ive done a lot of testing and I think I may know what the problem is, but its very unusual!
So when watching a YouTube video in Fullscreen I get black screen, driver error almost instantly, this is the same with playing League Of Legends I get the same problem
When played Diablo 3 however, I do not get this problem. I can play for hours fine. This is same with a game called Tribes.
The unusal thing about this is the tempretures.
YouTube, League of Legends run around 60C = black screen
D3, Tribes run around 80-90C = no black screen
So I thought up, if i were to run D3 in the background to get the temps up and watch a YouTube video at the same time what would happen?
Well the video worked perfectly, not a single error in the full HD hour long video. I tried this with League of Legends and same thing, I didnt get any black screens at all
So the black screen problem for me is that when the GPU is being used but isnt being pushed I get driver error. How is that possible? Surely it would be the other way around.
Is this a driver issue and/or software issue or hardware?
This was testing both on the Toshiba drivers and the latests Nvidia Drivers, Win 7 Ult 64Bit, Same results -
From what you are describing, it sounds like the drivers are not turning on something when they should be.
It could be that the drivers aren't even at fault also, a windows update may have changed something that interferes with proper driver operation.
Search this thread, there is a post by me about how to fix the issue with Riva tuner. -
I found your post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/7360466-post4031.html
Thanks again for the great info Priest!
+rep -
Thank you Priest, Will let you know if this works when I get in
Also, my theory of low GPU temps = black screen. I have done more testing
I now play League of Legends with Vhigh Gfx which brings the temps to around 80C (though low FPS) However, when I first start the game, due to the GPU not being used beforehand, it is running cool (around 50C). The start of the game I get around 1 or 2 black screens until the GPU gets up to tempreture where I then get none throughout the rest of the game
Its so confusing on why it is doing this.
Anyway, Thank you Priest. -
Try the following as it might help. Not sure if it will help since I have the dual 9800m GTS but since u still have the problem:
Go into the control panel then select hardware and sound then power options (I suppose u use balanced) so select balanced change plan settings, change advanced power settings then scroll down to pci express press the + to expand then +on the link state management and then change that mode to off. Then try running the game and let us know if it fixes the problem! -
So I have tried both the posts that said that would help
League of legends = every 2 seconds black screen
Diablo 3 = every 10mins black screens (even at 80C)
tried to revert the suggestions and its just as bad. Looks like another fresh install of windows..
edit: I have a feeling that it may be a windows update, so im going to install windows 7 and not update a thing -
Hello. Anyone knows which is the latest nvidia driver that works with the qosmio x300 with dual 9800m SLI ? I have tried 301.42 and although it installs correctly it does not work. Moreover toshiba replaced my motherboard and I still cannot adjust brightness when in the high performance mode.. Anyone having the qosmio x300 with dual 9800m gts willing to give me the version of drivers he uses? Thanks!

Hello! People still using this ? I damn hope so...
I've been for 2 weeks trying to solve a bloody problem with my graphic drivers >.<! I'm using a Qosmio x300-156, with what with I believe it uses a GeForce 9800M GTS ~
I already tried to use the last recommended drivers by Nvidia, the omega pack from Nvidia among other bull, I'm still trying to figure out what are the best drivers I can use to make this work properly >.< -
Hi
I just made a fresh install of Win 7 x64 on the X305, but i have an issue with the FN keys, they do not work, i installed Toshiba Value Added Package for Windows Vista/7 (64)(v1.2.33_64) but the brightness buttons, wireless, lock pc buttons do not work.
Help ! -
Latest working stable driver I have used and still using is 280.26 from nvidia. It depends which system you have though. As you can see mine is the one with nvidia chipset and dual 9800m GTS in SLI gpus. Can you tell us what problem ur having?
-
I have recently upgraded to qx9300. Scores have increased from 6.6 to 7.2 for cpu and from 6.4 to 7.2 for memory so I suppose cpu plays a role on the ram. If I increase multiplier from 9.5 to 11 without any voltage increase the cpu runs stable and the score goes to 7.3 for both ram and cpu.
So back on topic. Does anyone know of the temps qx9300 should run? idle and under stress? Mine idles at 42-50c on all cores and max temp using prime95 for 1hr is 78-80c. Is that ok? After searching the web max temp allowed is 100c though with the x9100 which was only 1watt lower 44w vs 45w, I had idle 38-42c and max temp 75c. Moreover any suggestions on ssd hdd? -
Is it possible to tell me wich pad or thermal paste did you use for Cpu,Mcp and Gpus?
-
I did not replace the pad for the 9400m chip and is still cool at 49-51 idle and 60-65 under stress (exact same as before the change of cpu).
For the qx9300 I used arctic silver 5. I read that it needs 200hrs to get best results for maximum contactivity and this is the 2nd day after the installation of the cpu and my idle temps are down to 40-45c. The gpus I did not replace the paste since there was no need in separating them from the heat sink (since my max temp for them is 70c under stress and idle 45-50c).
These pads might work Laptop High Thermally Conductivity Pad - Buy Laptop High Thermally Conductivity Pad,Laptop High Thermally Conductivity Pad,Thermally Conductivity Pad Product on Alibaba.com though I believe it is better to either use the same that toshiba installed or even use the one from the m17xr1 NEW Alienware Area-51 M17x Thermal Cooling Pads - REP-THERMAL15XL37 set of 4 | eBay which has the same 9400m g gpu, or ACER , Toshiba , HP DV Series Thermal Pad For CPU GPU | eBay . I have found this and was thinking of buying them since the 1st time I opened the system and replaced the cpu my 9400m was overheating. I made a mistake of not putting pressure on the 9400 chip and thus not having a good contact. After reoppening it I put a bit of pressure and voila my temps are back to normal.
EDIT: I would use Fujipoly Premium System Builder Thermal Pad - 1/4 Sheet - 150 x 100 x 1.0 - Thermal Conductivity 6.0 W/mK - FrozenCPU.com cooling pads as they have some nice reviews and are better than the stock ones. Though I think toshiba's ones are 1mm thick I would just measure them before ordering. Regards! -
Hey everyone who may still lurk here!! I just had a simple question about my 305-701. I was looking to upgrade my cpu as the 2.0ghz dual core just doesn't have the same pull as it used to. Just your personal opinions, would you spend $120-$150 to upgrade to a used q9100 quad core? or would you just hold out for a new computer all together? If so, what kind of budget computer could you get (preferably around $600-800) that would close to double the 305-701?
-
Why don't you get a q(x)9200? It is a processor that never made it into oem production and though its name is q9200 it has unlocked multipliers (not all models only the latest ones) that actually qualifies it as an extreme processor. You will be able to overclock since it has an unlocked multiplier and you can get it cheap on ebay around $120 which is your budget. As it has a 12mb cache and an unlock multiplier you can easily achieve the results of a qx9300. Priest-king used one so it is recognised on the qosmio x300 line. Actually I was considering that one when I found a bargain on qx9300 from a friend moving onto an i7 laptop. Now if it is a better option to upgrade the cpu rather than wait for a new laptop depends. If you are into gaming the x305-701 only has a 9700m GTS. This is not enough for new games even if you upgrade your cpu. Moreover the screen it has is 1440x900 which is not high def to watch movies though it helps with games since the gpu can produce more fps in lower resolutions and it is still a good resolution. If you want the laptop for everyday tasks, gaming not in very high details and don't mind about the resolution I would upgrade to a q(x)9200 and wait 1-2 more years to do the upgrade. I have recently upgraded my x9100 to a qx9300. Although I have it running at 2,93ghz I have not found better performance in games (FPS are similar maybe 1-2more), though newer games might work better with a quad (only game I realised a big boost in my fps was nfs hot pursuit, which I didn't know was designed for quads but it works a lot better on my qx9300 than it did with the x9100 even when I had it overclocked at around 3,8ghz don't really remember the exact overclock I had on that one). Now with the quad I can have the laptop connected on an external screen to have my media player and facebook on while gaming on the internal screen while not losing fps. That's the only real difference I have found from the change of dual-core to quad-core so its up to what you do with the laptop. Moreover bear in mind that quads have a higher tdp which means more heat and less battery time. I have not noticed more than 1-2c increase in my temps but then again I was using a 44w TDP processors which has no real difference from a 45w tdp processor. Hope this helped you and let us know what you decide. PS this thread is pretty dead. I think I am the only one still watching it!
EDIT: if you do get a q9200 make sure its an E0 stepping. QX9200 with QAVR and QAVS markings are the final revisions so have all the features. You should avoid the older QAJF since they do not have a temperature sensor and you could fry them. -
I know this is an old topic, but I am posting this for future reference if any decide to read it.
This is for "NON" Sli systems with the Intel chipset motherboard, "ALL" Sli systems have an Nvidia chipset motherboard. Part numbers may be different for Sli systems.
Sli graphics cards can "ONLY" be used in Nvidia chipset boards, and there are no video card upgrades available for them.
Ebay has had the 9800M GTX cards for about 350.00. I bought one to upgrade my X305-720. It will have to be a 9800M GTS or GTX that was made for the X300 or X305 series of laptop. The 701's had Intel boards, so you cannot upgrade to Sli graphics. The systems that had the 9800M GTS and GTX''s all had two cooling fans. You will have to purchase and install the second fan (K000061940) to get proper cooling. (the 701's only has one of the fans installed (K000067450) and it cools both the CPU and GPU, but you will need both fans for the faster cards)
More memory can increase graphics performance because when you increase the amount of system ram, it also increases the amount of system ram that is shared with the graphics card. Currently I have 8gb's of system ram and about 4 gigs of that has been allocated to the graphics in Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, and it did make a difference.
I bought a 2.4 ghz extreme quad core CPU off of ebay for a bit over 200.00. Do not exceed the wattage of your factory installed CPU when upgrading by more than 3-5 watts or you will run the risk of overheating the system. You should be able to upgrade to the same CPU I have, or even the 2.53 quad core. The 701's and the Quad core 720's have different heat-sinks X305-720 (K000063170) and the 701's had this one, (K000063160) You will need to purchase the heat-sink part number K000063170 to run Quad core CPU's.
The heat-sinks look alike, but the one for the 720 is rated for a higher wattage.
A very good way to get a faster system is to invest in an SSD drive, they will speed up the whole computer. Get at least a 120 gb SSD drive, and read the reviews on them before you buy, some brands of SSD are not that good. I've suped up quite a few laptops, so I do know what can be done.
This link shows a complete dis assembly of an X305 with the dual fans.
How to disassemble Toshiba Qosmio X305 laptop and remove motherboard -
Does anyone know how to modify the new nvidia drivers (that do not support hybrid SLI) in order to install them on our machines??
-
Hello,
I have a X305 Q701 and would like to try upgrading it.
I have done some searching and found the below.
- Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9300 QGNG QS mobile CPU
- Toshiba Qosmio X305 Series Motherboard KSRAA LA-4471P K000064450 (With fans and heatsink attached)
- Toshiba Qosmio X300/X305 GF9800M GTX 1024MB 1GB K000063270 LS-4471P
Can someone tell me if it is possible to put these into my Q701 and if there is anything else I could need to do so?
I am not the most Techy person but I have pulled mine down to clean it as it was overheating and found it fairly simple to reassemble so I would like to try hot it up a bit.
Had this idea some time back and keep coming back to it.
Any help would be much appreciated. -
Any Help Please???
-
As long as your current motherboard has both fan power sockets, you can use your current board. Most pf the 701's had both sockets, but a few had just the one socket.
As long as the board you are looking at is the Intel board made for the X300/X305 it will fit and work.
If you have two fan sockets, then you can use the 9800M GTX VGA card. The 9800M GTX requires two fans be installed.
You can use the 9300, but you will need the higher wattage rated heatsink made for the quad cores. -
Hi, i recently tried to upgrade my x305 with a JSRAA 4301P mainboard with nvidia chipset (before i had the intel one).
I bought a 9800M GTS SLI for it too with model number JSRAA LS-4301P.
so i placed components togehter.
Mainboard + P7350 CPU + 2x4gb RAM + 9800M GTS SLI on it.
But no monitor and inverter attached and no display cable (its broken)
then i tried to power on, leds comming up, fan is running HDD working but no picture on HDMI and VGA.
i tried to get to work without graphics card , for integrated only. but no picture too.
AND it shuts itself off after abput 40 seconds, if i dont press F2 (to get to bios) if i press f10 and enter it reboots.
So i dont know if the mainboard is broken, the graphics card or something else...
How can i test the mainboard only, anyway to get picture on the screen attached by vga or HDMI ?
and why does it shut down.
Hope there are some x305 pros who can answer my question
with regards steven :hi2: -
Even if connected through vga or hdmi you do not get signal of the bios post on the external screen (at least on the nvidia board). You will only get picture on the external monitor after it loads windows (or windows welcome screen). Moreover using the nvidia board and dual 9800m GTS SLI you would need the higher power adaptor.
-
Thank you very very much !!! you seem to be a real x300 pro
i was a bit confused, because on my old mainboard with intel chipset and 9700M GTS i got picture even before bios post.
so i thought the mainboard which i bought is broken.
so i need to buy a new display and cable to see something.
But why it shuts down if i dont press anything ?
Maybe power supply too low its only the 19V 9.5A supply. or because theres no OS installed ? or its because of the 8gb ram not supported ?
thanks for your help !
regards -
Well shutting down can be anything.. I would assume the most probable reason to be the onboard gpu overheating.. Did you remove the pad that comes on the onboard gpu? If yes you will need to buy a new pad. Cooling paste does not work for the onboard gpu. If you have the pad left on then you should try squishing the heatsink on it (that did the trick for me when my 9400m onboard gpu was overheating after I upgrades my cpu to qx9300).
-
hi, yes i dont have the pad, i tried thermal grease.
but i dont think its the reason because it dont shuts down if i press F2 for bios..
hmm ill see then, for now i purchased the new screen and display cable.
thanks for your help ! -
Ok! Let us know how it goes!

I have downloaded dpc checker program. I run it and everything looked fine! I tried it while gaming and although I do not notice fps drops or stuttering the dpc shows 2k latency (only in starcraft 2). Is this normal under gaming if anyone knows?? PS my 3dmark06 scores (CPU at 2.93ghz gpu at factory default) is: gpu driver is nvidia forceware 280.26 (latest that I could install without issues).
