Not sure if this is relevant but NVIDIA's optimus does not set the NVIDIA GPU as default for some less intense graphics games.
Try going into the NVIDIA grpaihcs control panel and see if that specific game is running on the NVIDIA GPU or Intel HD 3000 IGP.
-
Mine hits 84C, combined CPU i5, no throttle. Using Furmark, GPU throttles in 8 seconds at 64C using 1.4 to 1.6 BIOS. The temps you posted were yours? Note that using 5 runs of IntelBurn, posted in this thread, does not get my CPU very hot.
There countless post only saying they are not overheating
-
Opps , sorry, looks like I missed the context of that statement...
-
Nah it couldn't be because I wouldn't be able to get 60+fps in those games if it was using the HD 3000 IGP. But in any case under DC universe it says CUDA- GPUs use global setting all. I click that and it just shows the gtx 560m so im assuming I don't even have the hd 3000IGP or if I do it doesn't recognize it at least in that game. Not really sure if that was the right thing to look under I also looked under multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration It is set to use global setting(multiple display performance mode). Also went to look under Power Management mode that is set to use global setting (adaptive)

Question:
The Qosmio X775 has Dolby Advanced Audio and SoundMAX audio processing right, where do you download the drivers for the control panels of both audio processing features for a fresh re-install of Windows 7? -
Okay guys so I went into my logs for msi and check out these results. When im in league of legends my GPU usage is hovering in the 90s. I provided a SS when it hit 99 so you guys get an idea my GPU shouldn't be at 99 when im playing league of legends. Also when my GPU usage is in the 90s the memory usage is in the high 690s...................... http://i42.tinypic.com/1zz2811.png.............Here is one of DC Universe I tried to catch it when it lagged http://i44.tinypic.com/xc2gph.jpg however I couldn't get it but when i did lag my cpu usage instantly dropped really low like around 1 that stats are in the top left corner of DC Universe btw.

Toshiba Europe Qosmio forums have a lot of info regarding the bios and throttle problems too.
Toshiba Support Forums: Qosmio X Series
Just an FYI.. -
jsut an update: Guys I got my x775 in the mail today. upgraded to 2820qm no issues. intel 6300 card is being recognized and the driver installs but i get an (error 10) in details of device manager. I re-pasted and added some copper shims to the heatpipes. I took picture and plan on making a guide sometime this week when i get time!
-
I used the included driver disk with my 6300 in the ul30vt. Your error may have something to do with bluetooth?
Did you get a chance to record any i5 temps? Some of the forum users are swearing by using ICD and NOT using copper shims due to thickness of paste. I was concerned of sag but they say NP? -
This was my plan exactly the same CPU I'm planning on upgrading to if I get the X775, I already have a Intel 6205 so I'm going to use that besides I don't plan on adding a 3rd antenna to the laptop so a Intel 6300 would be a waste in my case.
Let us know your temps and if there are any throttling issues with the latest BIOS 1.70.
Edit:
Toshiba just announced the Qosmio X870 the successor to the X775/X770 stated for Q2 2012 launch. I think I'm going to wait for the new Ivy Bridge model since I'm liking the new design a lot more than the X775/X770.
Source: http://hothardware.com/News/Toshiba-Teases-Qosmio-X870-3D-Gaming-Laptop/ -
Well guys I think I found the issue......So this computer only has one fan and its connected to the GPU. So my GPU temps are fine....However I downloaded real temps so I could see my CPU temps. And just after 1 game of LOL they were hitting 80C I'm gonna do some more temp tests after a couple hours of gaming and see how the temps for my CPU are. But I think its my CPU that is causing the problem because it turbo engages the temp goes up and throttles, so i'm most likely going to have to get a cooling pad for my laptop was planning on getting one anyways and of course down grade to 1.1bios.
-
Yeah... thermal throttling.
-
Yeah i went to guru3d and they said he had a toshiba and his GPU temp was good but his CPU and Vram temps were high...so hopefully once i get my pad and 1.1 it will be set..if not im just gonna send it in. Thanks for the help guys this is the way to go when you need true tech support
-
Based of my time under the hood so far, the cpu overheating and throttling is what is causing everyones throttling issues. the design is such as that the heatpipe for the cpu is after the gpu. SOooo.. if you are gaming the ambient temperature or the temperature of the cpu heatsink BEGINS at 60+ degrees.
I dont see there being a huge difference in temperature between the i7 and i5. the i5 has less surface against the heatsink by about half. But... the temps on an i7 at the same frequencys should be much higher... thus (i assume) the increased surface area.
My plans were to replace the 3m "foamy" stuff inside with copper shims. Inside, all the chips on the gpu and cpu use these foamy crap. The i5/i7 and the core of the gpu are pasted. Mine came from the refurb facorty with an excessive amount of thermal paste. Only problems is my copper shims were too thick at 1.5mm and would have caused a gab between the heatsink and the cpu and gpu. in my guide I will recommend someone have a set of multiple sizes and try different ones. (likely 1mm thickness would be perfect). I ended up putting the shims along the copper heatpipe. I really didnt plan on opening it up any time soon so why not just use them up right?
Anyway, i think i forgot to reconnect the subwoofer. Does anyone have any effective way to see if it is working? A certain song lol or a app that tests channels? -
Yes the CPU heat is the source of problems, my gpu temp is always good, the highest is around 63c with 97% gpu load. Mr. Robert, please post the picture for instruction, it's very useful for us who want to open this laptop. Full tutorial from you would be great on how to control the temp on this laptop.
Thanks, -
Well I have a 2 year warranty on me..idk if you have any on yours but I think opening it voids it.
-
Yea, I knew that after running a few benches, the 560 is before the CPU. My poor little heart was crushed that you did not get to do some i5 heat benches.
That's OK, it would be interesting if you run Intell Burn Test to see what the difference is on your new i7.
As for throttling, if you check back to where I posted Furmark along with HWMonitor, there was no overheating of the CPU. If there were overheating, everone runing 1.1 BIOS would see 105C CPU throttle or smoke, no? -
has anyone tried bios 1.7 yet, just curious will it fix the throttling?
-
'
I have 1.7 and no it doesn't fix it -
OK EVERYONE LISTEN. YOUR CPU IS GETTING TOO HOT. NO FORM OF BIOS OR DRIVER IS GOING TO FIX THIS.
WHAT WILL FIX THIS: MORE COOLING -
Well I now do agree, but why would Toshiba state on their website that 1.7 will fix most of the throttling issues.
-
my 2820qm sitting on the coolermaster U3 mat and being repasted still comes very close to throttling. Im trying to come up with some mod to get the temp down for this guide
-
Sooo... Can Anyone hook me up with a Close-up picture of the JHDD2 Flex Cable adapter that does not come with the lower end Qosmio x77x system? (The one that goes from the Mainboard to a Second HDD) I have My Reasons,,,

Is there any resource about disassembling the Qosmio-X775, possibly with pictures? I'd just like to clean the fans / reapply thermal paste.
Any help is much appreciated!! -
I have one im building and will post the link here. I have the pictures taken jsut need to complete the guide. I had drill this weekend and 2 papers to write so ive been rather busy.
-
Just got a 11578 on 3dmark vantage. I'm somewhat pleased. 20k cpu score and 9kish gpu. I figured it would be the other way aorund. What is everyone else's score.
In comparison my desktop scored a 20450 with near same components. -
Thank you!
So looking forward to it! Wish you well! -
This is the Euro Tosh site discussing the throttling issues;
Toshiba Support Forums: Qosmio X770-107 GPU Throttling/ ...
Pretty much the same I found. With 1.1 BIOS, no throttling.. with anything. With 1.6 and 1.7, less throttling or not depending on your CPU temps and game plus what settings in game used, ie. ful AA or not.
I would be curious if Toshiba uses the same single pipe found in this:
Amazon.com: TOSHIBA Qosmio X775 Notebook EXTREME 16GB RAM (Intel Core i7 EXTREME second gen i7-2960XM Quad Processor - 2.70GHz with TURBO BOOST to 3.70GHz
..probably not
-
I guarantee that has the same cooling.
In fact, that is a custom Qosmio that a independent computer-shop installed a i7-2960XM [check out the other laptops that retailer sells, all customs]. I doubt the single-fan of the Qosmio can sufficiently handle that CPU.
Only these are authentic Toshiba Qosmios [they all use the entry i5-dual/i7-quad; nothing higher]. Toshiba Direct | Qosmio Laptops & Notebook Computers -
Thanks for that Alex. I guess we need a water cooling mod, miniature QD's, that connect your external radiator to cooling block?
-
Right now im looking to secure a copper heatsink on the base cpu cooling pipe. The heatsink will extend down and come flush with the base of the laptop, which requires me dremel the base which i know not many are going to be willing to do.
-
Sorry if my post came off a bit strong, was in a hurry and just stated what I saw from that link
I'm sure there will be some cleaver thinking amongst everyone to help address the Throttling problems. Remember the x775 has only been around for 6-7 months. With the x870 launching soon [and having a very similar design], that will only increase the owner-base and collaboration to address the problem [maybe Toshiba has addressed it in the x870, can only wait to find out]. -

Hi guys,
im wondering if someone can get me a simple help. I need a receipt of X775 (electronic format might be fine too). My model is actually x775-3dv80
My story:
My brother bought me the laptop during last Black Friday sales. He bought tons of other stuffs too, im not sure he did not get any receipt or he actually lost it.
So recently my x775 have some problems: blinking screen and sudden shutoff. Tried changing graphic settings etc but cannot solve the problem. So i bring it back to toshiba. Surprisingly the first thing they ask for is proof of purchase. I told them i alrd register warranty online but they insist to see it.
Any help will be wonderful. You can email me: [email protected] -
Not at all Alex; I had noticed the third party source but did not research if Toshiba sanctioned for the monster CPU. I would love to take it for a test spin.
I don't know if there would have been a big difference in efficiency but I was a bit disappointed in not seeing full copper fin heat pipes. I may just stay with 35Watt CPUs, for this model, as time not modding is what's killing me atm.
Yea, I too wait for heat trials for the x870 to appear
-
Mine, and most receipts, have the serial number on it..to prove it was not stolen and for tracking.
Your brother just paid cash? Credit Cards and place of purchase should be able to help you. I suggest you go back and talk to brother? -
Very interesting. I was never asked for mine. Perhaps try calling again and working your issues differently. (not mentioning the last call or the receipt)
-
Just got my replacement x775-7170 today. Installing memory and noticed this one came with the secondary hdd cable installed. The one I RMA'd did not have it.
Also, no tea kettle whistle on the new one. -
Great to hear! How was your experience with customer service?
-
Ohhh I wish I could find a ips screen for this laptop. I want to do a retrofit really bad. Anyone know the next best screen or a 17.3" laptop with an amazing screen? Would be awesome to add that to my guide!
Also, anyone have a spare HD cable ?! I don't want to fork out the $30 for this lol. -
Well, new replacement battery now showing 23% wear after one month.
I think either bios or ACPI bug that may be causing this. Or; Toshiba has a bad batch of batteries? I called to get a ticket number so will just monitor this battery for a while longer. -
Thats interesting, I will have to keep an eye on mine.
-
Yep, $30 for a $2 dollar connector and about 5 days to google search to find it.
Toshiba's BTO site could be a winner if they listed screen options..along with, LOL, check box for $2 secondary drive connector!
How's your mods coming, any throttle issues with whatever bios your using? -
Well to date, i received some of the copper I was waiting on and as soon as the other comes in I will go to town on it.
As it sits, my gpu will run overclocked at 65' all day. I found the point where overclocking the gpu more only gets lower scores because the cpu stays in a lower state longer.
Keeping in mind i have the 2820qm, Running prime 95 (100% load on all cores, no load on gpu) I find that the cpu will initially jump to its 3.5ghz for about a minute. At which point it will reach 85'approx. and return to the normal 2.5ghz where it will stay around 76'. My goal now is to get it to run 3.5ghz in the 70's constantly.
Now, comparing my desktop to my laptop, my i7 920 overclocked, scores the same 3dmark vantage score as my i7 2820qm (around 20,000).
My 5850m overclocked on my desktop is close to 19,500 where the 560m in the laptop is lucky to push out over 9,000. <-pun not intended
Now, for me this says that the gpu is the bottle neck. Only issue is i cant OC it until i handle this cpu heat issue.
I don't actually know enough about these modern chips to know if they are supposed to be able to run at the top speed constantly or its doing as it is supposed to. I think regardless of our processors though, most of us could use that top speed constantly. -
Gotta love Florida still hasn't exploded yet.... http://i41.tinypic.com/30v1955.png

My final RMA was with newegg, and I have to say they have been great.
I first bought the 7384 from bh photo. It arrived with a bad pixel. RMAed but by the time it arrived back at bh, they were out of stock so a refund was issued. This whole process took 2.5 weeks.
Next I ordered the 7170 from newegg. This was the laptop with the tea kettle noise and dead touchpad on/off button. RMAed with newegg. Newegg sent a new 7170 the day I called, so I recieved the new on in 3 days!
The replacement comp had a stuck pixel
. RMAed. No grief from newegg. Again recieved a replacement comp in 3 days. This on has no probs as of yet, and came with the 2nd hdd cable.
I was surprized to have so many issues, but after 4 x775's I finally got a good one. I guess its just bad luck -
Ive never had a stuck or dead pixel on any device I have ever owned (knock on wood). But I know tons of people that have and I've tried to fix. So it is definitely hit and miss there.
With that being said, Is the 3d screen nice? Ive been looking at lcd's and was recommended a relatively inexpensive one but though about jsut getting the one on the 3d model of our laptops. -
My understanding is that the CPU will allow 30 seconds of over the 45W TDP..at what ever clocks this may be? As for heat we know that the max TJ is 100-105C, but then toshiba threw some mods with bios v1.2 and up.
@ work we use current monitors but i have no idea how to use accurate external current monitor on a mobile CPU. I find software all over the map. I know some have used kill-o-watt to monitor brick but thats the whole package.
3.5 @ 70 in a single pipe laptop should get you chief designer position at Toshiba
