Yes I do own the 3d version, no problems at all installing the latest nvidia drivers.
-
wow, that's great! thanks.
-
Well, I took the plunge and tried installing BIOS 1.10 on my X775 and you know what?
IT WORKED!!!!!!
NO MORE "Throttling" issues while play Battlefield 3 or Deus Ex Human Revolution!!!
Now I will say this: the X775 has been running a bit warmer, with Core 0 temps peaking at around 90 degrees, but so far no system shut downs. (Yes I am using a Cooler Master under my laptop)
The ONLY real issue is that my left hand gets warm while playing games thanks to Toshiba's questionable decision to place the fan exhaust vent on the left side of the laptop.
To heck with Toshiba "Support". When I want solutions to my X775, I'll come here!
Many Thanks, Takovr!!!!! -
Glad to hear things worked out for you. I played about a 4 hour session of BF3 on-line and had no problems with it. But yes, the heat comming out of my laptop was very hot.
-
What a shame... I too had to go back to the V110 bios. I tried turning the settings in BF3 down and down and down again and still it just kept throttling back. Created a BIOS CD (would not revert to older BIOS with windows updater) and now BF3 plays great.
-
Has anyone tried with the new bios 1.4 if throttling still occurs?
Thanks -
Model Content Page -
I bought one a few days ago and came with 1.20 and the throttling exist. I'll try with 1.40 just to check. ANy case i'll go to 1.10 and stay there ^_^
On the other hand. Does anyone knows how to remove the bios logo or splash screen?
Normally will be on the bios but i couldnt find it yet.
Thanks -
Hi guys , i asked from toshiba about upgrading RAM , but they told me it is limited to only 8GB , so you have any idea ?!
-
-
So you think that is enough for performance and future usage! i remember the old qosmio models were able to upgrade to more than 8GB RAM ! beside in the same class another brands like Asus , MSI or even Dell have compatibility to upgrade up to 16GB .
-
i see they add new feature "Resolution+" in 3DV80 and 3DV82 and "S/P DIF Digital Audio Port" now is not available in these two models .
-
Any word on the performance of bios 1.40? I am curious to see if they actually will fix an issue everybody is having.
-
any idea how to downgrade bios from 1.3 to 1.10 plz give me a complete tutorial
any good piece of advice abut this product abut heat temperature etc plus a good laptop cooling fan sugestion ok tknx alll -
This looks like a lot of laptop for $1,020. $125 cheaper than my old FZ
Any using one?
Intel® Core™ i5-2430M processor
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), SP1
• 17.3" widescreen
• 6GB DDR3 1333MHz memory
• 640GB HDD (7200rpm)
• 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M w/NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology
What's odd is Toshiba is still selling (clearing stock?) this for same price;
• Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
• 17.3" widescreen
• 6GB DDR3 1333MHz memory
• 640GB HDD (7200rpm)
• 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M w/NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology
There is only a 100Mhz difference in CPU bump..shame there was not a -100 difference in price
My Asus has hybrid drivers so will nice to check how well the Optimus drivers work..and how much cooler this thing will run over my 4 year FX.
Oops, just found the X775 thread, move if needed. Thanks -
I'm really liking this over my dusty old FX
I found IntelBurnTest did better than Prime 95 or Orthos (run Orthos twice for the quads) to compare max heat on my 2 core i5 to my old T9300. I found the old T9300 and the new i5 ran neck to neck on temps. Ambient temps were 73F, fan never more than medium auto speeds.
The 35W TDP two core i5 will hit mid 70c in CPU only stress test. The 45W i7 are sure to hit more given same fan speeds on our single pipe laptops.
Note the package power of 32.51 watts for my i5. Darn close to the 35W max, no?
I think Toshiba should have used a dual pipe design, like my old FX.
The second screen shot shows 2 hours of New Vegas with the added load of the GPU. Note the higher CPU temps but lower package power used for gaming.
Of course type of game plus ambient temps will put these temps all over the map. Other than loss of two cores I feel that the i7 crowd should have been given the dual pipes. For the price, I can live with the single pipe i5 with twice the performance of my old T9300 using the IntelBurnTest gigaflop rating shown. -
Glad to see your happy with your purchase Hydra.
It's been noted the i7-quads run hotter in the x775s, causing possible Throttling, but with the i5 that may be averted[Toshiba said they are releasing a patch soon to fix this issue, hopefully they follow through; sorry for side-tracking].
Keep us posted with any progress. -
Thanks!
Nope, i5 throttles as well. If this becomes a problem then I will downgrade the BIOS till a proper fix is in place. I did not have much luck with ThrottleStop but it did improve things. -

I just picked up an X775 Q7384 on sale at Newegg...it came with the 1.30 bios...immediately downgraded to 1.10 due to the throttling issues I've heard about. Absolutely love this thing. Gaming is super smooth on this thing...may actually take the time to get some pics and do a review. Highly recommended...

@holliday777
I'll be curious how the toshiba stacks up to the asus G74 you just sold. According to Anandtech the gimped GPU shows a loss of 8% in their gaming benches.
cheers -

I normally don't have time to benchmark computers...and really did enjoy the G74 despite the bus restrictions. In real world use, it ran every application/game that I cared about with no trouble. But, my first impressions of the Toshiba are definitely positive. I specifically wanted the 192-bit 560m at the 1600 by 900 res to future proof performance for a longer period of time. Very happy with how the Q7384 is performing so far.
I'm gonna live with it for a few days...but may very well take some pictures and post a review once I get the chance to try a few more things. Thanks! -
It looks like the benchmarks using IntelBurnTest was darn close showing new i5 at twice the Gflops to my old T9300. I just verified this using Handbrake to encode Horrible Bosses for wife's itouch; 10 minutes vs 20 minutes.
Hmmm, I'm sure several i7 cpu's could be dropped into our G2? sockets? -
BTW, anyone else seeing the high battery wear with HW monitor? May be bogus but not sure.
-
holliday777 Notebook Evangelist
I'm not sure about wear, but yes the battery on my x775 is terrible. I use mine tethered to electric...so it doesn't matter to me. But, did an unofficial test last night and went from full charge to shut down inside of around 45 minutes. Granted, I was playing the new Assassin's Creed...but still a staggeringly quick battery drain. Still love the laptop though...awesome machine!
-
Yep, looks wide spread, maybe new ACPI chips feeding FUD.
As far as battery life, NP, this just acts as a UPS to let me get things shut down safelyBuy the UL30vt if you want battery life..8 hours!
I do like the laptop but would like to kick the clown who moved the USB ports from back to the very front on both sides. I tend to get everything in a knot when rigged for video burning with external burners. Sort of looks like a catfish rigged for battle? -
Question; anyone try their USB 3.0 ports with the WD portable drives?
I'm reading some Asus owners are not having much luck with theirs. -
The noise you hear is me slaming my head against the desk. Golly, 17" dual hard drive bay laptop. One(1) hard drive connector !! I guess we had to save money somewhere? LOL, I totally missed that in the spec sheets.. as nothing is mentioned.
This laptop so gone and the plans for SSD. Sorry for rant!
Just an update that I found the missing connector for anyone planing RAID or ordering the single drive with plans to add an SSD down the road. My single drive FX had the second drive connector but it seems that Toshibe is hurting for the $2 savings?
Anyway; the part # is K000126450 listed as second drive connector which list $20-25 from two toshiba parts suppliers, one here:
K000126450 - Toshiba Laptop Miscellaneous Parts
505 owners may find their missing connector as well? -
Can you change the graphics card on this laptop?

Anyone had a direct comparison between one of the x770-x775 screens and a Dell XPS 17 screen (non 3D)? I have the Dell now and really like it... spoiled. I tried out a Sony VAIO F2390x and the screen was just not up to par for me. It was nice at first, but once I viewed my XPS again, I then realized just how much nicer it is. I sent the VAIO back... and really would not want to send the Toshiba back for the same reason.
-
No one has replied and I can only compare my 1600x900 (Optronics B173RW01 V3) non 3D option screen among my other laptops. You can buy this panel for $70 FWIW.
Like many of the current laptop screens, this one has poor viewing angles; and has an odd screen door effect at certain distances from the screen. This may have something to do with the dot pitch.
I'm OK with this as a gaming screen for max FPS over higher resolution screen. So for the price paid, NP.
What is odd is Toshiba does not offer screen choices on their build to order site. Like many, Toshiba missed the boat so if screen quality is high on your list..keep looking. -
Yeah... I looked at one of the 16 x 9 screens on a 7320 yesterday at Best Buy. It was not very good except at a very limited angle. At that angle it looked pretty good, but there is no wiggle room on that angle.
I did find a review on one of the previous 3D models... 3DV78 with the 1080p screen that claimed a good image at multiple viewing angles. So I am assuming Toshiba is using a much better screen in those models. I think if I give one a try, it might be the 3DV80, even though I care nothing about 3D. My current XPS 17 is 3D for the same reason... to get the better display.
I think Costco has these in stock, and there is a Costco about an hour north of here. I may ease up that way and check it out before pulling the trigger on ordering one. -
My old dell e1705 had a really nice UXGA screen. I had to set screen to 120dpi so my eyeballs did not bleed; so resolutuion may be an issue if you wear glasses.
You might want to call toshiba to find if new video drivers are in the works if you do games but day to day stuff should be fine. The 3d laptops are reported to be non Optima if that matters.
Enjoy! -
It will mainly be used for Internet work, email, word processing and some very light graphics work... no games and nothing too demanding.
It is not a big problem to keep the power connected. I sit in my recliner with the laptop in my lap, mouse on armrest and power outlet just to the left of me. Optimus might come in handy when traveling, but typically we can manage.
With me doing so much Internet work (forum owner), I really like having a good display with fairly accurate color so that I am seeing what we intended it to look like. Having experienced a couple of limited viewing angle displays, I want to make sure I avoid going through the hassle of sending it back because of the viewing angle limitations. A trip to Costco is probably wise. -
Toshiba Qosmio X770 3D (Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M) Hands on by notebookjournal.de [German/Deutsch] - YouTube
man i can not believe this video a stable fur mark on qosmio -
Maybe he's runnin 1.10 BIOS...or -
holliday777 Notebook Evangelist
The X775 I have is amazing...completely stable (and yes, it's running the 1.10 bios)...hopefully Toshiba gets a new bios out that at least gives the option to disable the throttling. For now, I'm perfectly happy with the laptop as it is. This thing games with the best of em.
-
Echo of Holiday above. As long as you run the v1.10 bios. the X775 is great!
I play a LOT of hours of BF3, Star Wars T.O.R. and WOW on this one and it plays them all on high or better graphics settings. Does get a bit warm under my left palm but thats my only complaint.
Toshiba was supposed to have an update for the 560M bios to help with the throttling issues but it's been a couple of months now and they still have not released anything. -
holliday777 Notebook Evangelist
I'm playing a lot of the same games as Ken...SW Old Republic, BF3...plus Skyrim, Assassin's Creed Revelations, F1 2011, etc...and run virtually all at max. When my X775 arrived, it had the 1.40 bios installed...being aware of the throttling issues, I immediately reflashed to 1.10 and it's been ideal. I would also add that Toshiba makes the bios flash process super easy (I'm a tech, but a beginner could manage this easily)...the utility to create a bootable DVD is seamless.
I will try to follow thru with my promise to post a review with pics this weekend...but suffice it to say this is a very underrated laptop when configured correctly. -
Yes, skyrim runs extremely well on my low buck i5. However I have seen up to 82C after 3/4 hours on the CPU. I find the 560m runs way cooler than my old 7900/8800m laptops. i may try some software OC but hate jamming the CPU on our single pipes.
Mine came with 1.03 and ran Skyrim and New Vegas with no throttling, however Furmark would cause throttling after 5-6 seconds. I would add that anyone burning ISO cd to flash BIOS, use the outstanding free Imageburn by UKLightning as it has very good error checking before you commit to CD.
Has anyone found any real benefits to delete then install the 285.62 video drivers? -
Version 1.60 - 2012-01-12
Made a change to detect Optimus and 3D SKUs, then inform the EC to set different VGA throttling protections. -
-
Ken,
The Toshiba site still list 1.40. Link please? -
Here's the product page for the q7272 model

Ah, Thanks Alex.
I was using my model X775-Q7380 to look up. Will test tomorrow.
