You'll need to go here to download the 1.10 bios...locate your model number first obviously...plus download the utility to make a bootable disk with that bios:

    Toshiba Support - Homepage

I would only advise doing this if you're completely comfortable with the process. Definitely worth doing not just for the driver update abillity...but also to have no throttling issues with the GPU.

Just a warning to anyone using the latest beta released last week. All was fine but it broke my installed STEAM games with error 51.

I'm back to the 290.53 betas which do not cause the problem. Other machines are fine so YMMV.

Please list the games that throttle, just league of legends? FWIW, I'm using several current games, Skyrim, New Vegas, and others that do not throttle. I switched back to 1.6 BIOS and Beta Nvidia drivers. I mention this as no one is posting Temps. I run about 4C cooler from 1.1 with repeated checks. If this matters

One poster reported no throttling with 1.6 and BF3. BTW, what did you mean "you can't game the way you used too"? You were throttling right off the bat? Your old XPS had a 260M or 460M?

    Cheers

Works perfect! Was shipped almost instantly and received before the weekend. It was $38 after shipping and all but I have my big HDD in now.

Yeah I agree however when I do go to the download tab type in x775-3dv78 and search The only bios that does come up is the newest 1.6. Not the previous bio's that they have released in the past.

Um..no at first league of legends ran great I didn't have any lag at all no weird bugs and what not. But then they came out with a couple updates for the game and thats when I started having throttling and other weird issues with the game. As far as skyrim runs, I have the razor 1911 version (hacked version)......so i don't know if that makes a difference I did play everything maxed out but it did start to lag so I had to turn down the shadows ect so I could have a solid 30 fps all around. Im at work right now so about my XPS im not sure.

Okay so with the new 1.6 bios I tried installing the new 295.51 beta driver after deleting my driver off my computer and it said not compatible. So I tried the 285.62 one and I had the same response not compatible :(. So looks like my only option is to try to go with the 1.1 and see if they will accept them.

Oh Noos, missed the 3D part. I read you can't update the drivers for these models due to the 3D part?

BTW, with the new Nvidia installers, no need to delete the old driver first. there is an "clean install" option as well. I found out the hard way too.

The second time i tried it I found out I clicked the wrong link and got the desktop drivers...cleans egg off face.

Well, maybe keep an "I" on the temps and enjoy that 3d bad boy!

For safety use the DISK method. ImageBurn is an excellent free ISO maker and burner, for the BIOS.

So what you saying is I can never update my video drivers even If I go back to the 1.1 bios. Because mine is the 3d version. Because without the new drivers I'm not gonna be able to compete as I should be able to In league of legends.

OK, I found the post that messed me up..this guy had downloaded Go Drivers and it killed his 3D functions..my apologies!

I'm reading where the 3D owners have upgraded Nvidia Video drivers so not sure why you are having problems with laptop beta drivers.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR  This is frustrating I don't know why its giving me an issue. I have done alot of research and there are a tone of owners that are having the same problem where they can't download the drivers from Nivida....I don't get why those few are able to do soo

The 1.10 BIOS can be found by going to your support page and clicking the Downloads Tab.
Scroll down until to see BIOS, then under Title, there should be a " + " [plus sign]. Click that plus sign and it will show all the BIOS available.

Look at this picture. Ignore the red-aroow as this image is not mine. It shows an example of the "+" sign under the Title category.

Are you sure your downloading MOBILE drivers? Many have accidentally downloaded DESKTOP drivers; which will give the same error.

Yeah Im gonna stick with the 1.6 bios for now since alot of people been reporting it has fixed the throttling problem. NVIDIA DRIVERS 295.51 BETA and that is the driver im positive I double checked that it was for the 560m and not for the 560. Which is why I don't get it is giving me a non compatible error if it is the 560m driver

Try these and see if they work; NVIDIA DRIVERS 290.53 BETA

These work fine and what I use and way newer than the Toshibas.

    Good luck!

You downloaded these and ran from your desktop?

If so then try the smaew thing in SAFE Mode. Unless other 3D owners were blowing smoke, something is not right.

Well, if that does not work the BIOS links Alex and others gave should do the trick. 1.1 was also the only BIOS that could run Furmark without throttling. It would be nice if 1.6 works as that is the Toshiba official "fix".

    Cheers

    Hi,

What I was wondering is if it would be possible to upgrade this LCD Panel to a better panel that has better saturation, gamut, contrast, etc. I would prefer to keep the resolution at 1600x900 if possible, because it is better for frame rates in games; However, if needed I would consider getting a FHD panel if that is the only option that would provide a better quality panel.

Based on this review from anandtech, AnandTech - Toshiba Qosmio X775: Toshiba's Gamer Grows Up the screen is barely mediocre. (I know the review is the x775 but from my understanding the x775 is just the prebuilt version of the x770 which is able to be custom built.)

Last if anybody know if the killer-n wireless card would work in this laptop and/or where i could purchase it standalone that would be of great help.

    Thanks for the assistance! :)

No broken tabs for me. Ended up being a relatively pain-free upgrade. The reference that Alex provided about the full HD screen replacement is good advice. 20/20 hindsight, I would have liked to go with the 1920 by 1080 screen...but it was out of stock when I was ready to pull the trigger.

Can anyone who has an i5 version tell me if the power brick/ac adapter is 180W?

I'm planning on getting on of these (probably not going to wait for AMD Trinity and not happy with the laptop in my sig.) and upgrade the CPU to a i7 quad from i5 but I need to know if the power brick on the i5 versions are the same as the i7 version 180W.

One more question, can anyone tell what's the Realtek codec used on this laptop?
[Control panel > Realtek Audio Manager > bottom left corner (i) symbol]

    Thanks,

Yes, it's 180 watt [email protected]

Unless you got a source, get the i7 now, usually cheaper and you keep the warranty?

When every thing is maxed gaming I have hit 84C (CPU) if this matters.

    ALC269; DAC or latency issues?

    @ hydra

    Thanks for the verification.

I'm just waiting on sale for the i5-2430M version since they will soon be getting the i5-2450M version in stock, should save me $50 or more if I wait a week.

It's actually cheaper for me the get a i5 version and then upgrade to i7 quad, I open up electronics all the time usually if they last 30 days without problems then they'll last for the lifetime (I do not plan to upgrade the CPU out of the box, I'm going to give it a month work in time).

    A few more questions:

What is the WiFi card used in the laptop?

    http://www.hwinfo.com/download64.html

Is there one or two mics and what is the MP for the webcam?

Also, has anyone tried overclocking the GTX 560M with MSI Afterburner?

PS. Try using MSI Kombustor to see if there's throttle with BIOS 1.60

Okay so tried installing the driver through safe mode that didn't work still said not compatible. Then i tried doing the "have disk" method...but when i tried to search for the file on my desktop it didn't show up. I honestly don't know what to do anymore I need to get these new drivers on my computer I'm having a lot of issues with league of legends right now. And without the new drivers than the game will continue to run like .

You could try extracting the driver (7zip will do it) and then point the 'have disk' wizard point straight to the core graphics driver folder. If that works you can go into each of the remaining folders and install that component, 3d, physx etc.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, some manufacturers put a unique identifier in the driver's .inf file, that might be what's happening here. If that's the case, copying the .inf from the original driver package to the new, extracted driver folder might work. As always, YMMV

One guy said this on these forums. "I got the 285.38 64-bit drivers to install on my X775-3DV78. I uninstalled the existing Toshiba 268.85 drivers and deleted the Nvidia Corporation files in Program Files and Program files (86).It installed O.K. I am so far having no problems with 3D nor IE9. 10/16/2011" But yeah if you read everyones post you can clearly see everyone with the 3d version can't do

I've been thinking of buying a Qosmio X775-Q7384, but after reading of Toshiba's lack of driver support I just might forget it.

I just finished reading some of the Toshiba forums and it's really sad they do not support their gaming line up with updated drivers.

Awiggz20 - I wish I had something else to offer - best of luck to you.

I think the "lack of GPU driver support", may be universal with many of the "Big Name" manufacturers.

I do agree the drivers should work with the 3D x775 Qosmio. However, nvidia verde drivers seem to have no problems installing on NON-3D Qosmios.

Another solution maybe to contact nvidia support and let them know their verde drivers are coming back as non-compatible for your specific model. Might be of some use.

    Good luck

Very true on both counts - I guess what's eating me up is that nvidia's newest drivers installed on my G73 no problem. I don't like the thought of not being able to do that.

This is killing me - I have anX775-Q7384 and a G74SX side by side on Newegg as I type this and can't decide which. Got to pull the trigger on one of them this morning.

The Atheros AR9002WB..so plan on switching to the Intel/BT if you want 5G.

Don't know about Kombustor but Furmark with throttle anything without 1.1 BIOS. Yes, mine will OC and I get 4 or 5 FPS more. But then the heat on our Single Pipe climbs so I don't OC ATM.

All the CPU pricing, I found, gets me close to finding the i7 versions on sale.

How much were you talking about..and where? I hate missing a deal!

You also get both drive conectors, $30, that you won't get on any single drive i5. It took me 8 days to find that second drive connector, Tosh support was worthless.

    Thank you sir :)

I wound up going with the G74SX-NH71. 4Gb more ram and 19x10 for $30US more.

But if this acts anything like the G73 I had, the Q7384 is next choice.

    Stability = priceless imho. :eek:

The problem is the G74 cost a few hundred more than what I paid, but more inline for the non GPU gimped i7 models.

Technically the G74 is better due to it's far better cooling system. The G74 has two heat pipes, one for the GPU and one for the CPU. Any problems you have, sometimes, can be solved using their large user base. Both respective tech supports can be really bad.

I will say my i5 runs really nice. The i7 will kill me wth encoding, but most games still tend to be GPU limited. I really like the 560M for the bucks paid!

..and both Nvidia betas install just fine. My ul30vt, non Optimus switched GPU, has not had one video update from Asus in two years!

That was the first thing I noticed in your sig - I don't think I've seen any deals that good on a 560, especially a non-gimped one.

I love the specs on the tosh. and...this is where I'm nervous....I'm just hoping the G74 doesn't disappoint, but if it does the toshiba is next.

Then my biggest issue will be wrestling it away from the wife - she loves the looks. :p

I'm all for frame rate, you did right on the 1600x900. Lots of blab on fitting more info on the 1900x1200 screens, no thax, I struggled with those on my old e1705.

For the life of me I cannot figure why Toshiba does not offer 3 or 4 screen types on their BTO's. The cutthroat cost between laptop manufactures must make the cost of stocking 4 screens way to expensive. There is something broke there.

Okay guys so I just was on the phone with Toshiba Tech support for an hour for the third time. And actually had to talk to there highest tech guy there so they could understand that my machine can't handle games without them putting out updates and since there behind the updates its pretty much useless. He agreed with me and said there is nothing he can do about it. So he did tell me that I am right and that I can't download it from Nvidia website because Toshiba has Nvidia make there cards specially for them. So you have to go through Toshiba to download them. And thats why when I download them I get the NO COMPATIBLE VIDEO HARDWARE. All in all the guy couldn't really help me, besides giving me a website called LAPTOPVIDEO2GO which basically forces the driver to install with a new Inf. But said there not at fault if it makes my hardware faulty. So right now I have a $1.5k paper weight. Hopefully these drivers work on this website I've heard good things about it. I'll give you guys an update and let know if I can actually get this beast to run the way it should.

Let us know if it works; that completely sucks Toshiba will not take any type of responsibility.

1 other thing: try downloading Toshiba branded nvidia drivers from Toshiba Support All Model Page. They are not marked for your specific model, but they are Geforce drivers after all; so they may install without problems. The latest version they have is 290.39 [goto link below, on drop-list select display, goto 2nd page, find nvidia 290.39].

I worry that any driver not made specifically for the x775-3D Qosmio may still install, but might interfere with the 3D capabilities.

Let us know how it pans out. Good luck

    @ Awiggz20

Did you ever try the 1.1 bios with the Toshiba drivers? I got lost in the posts.
The Euro sites cliam this did the trick for throttle problems.

Alex, I'm almost 100% certain the 3D functionality is enabled in all driver sets. If you extract the driver you'll see the separate folder with the necessary 3D package. That can also be downloaded independently and installed or upgraded while leaving the current driver in place.

The only thing that would hinder that is if Nvidia rolled a manufacturer specific driver set that forced it to be installed as a whole.

I would think the main concern would be the .inf, but that can also be swapped between drivers. :) forgot to add, it can be successfully swapped as long as it has the identifier for the card you are installing too i.e. the modded infs from laptopvideo2go.....hope this all helps a bit.

Okay so SWEEEEETT SUCCESSS FINALLY. So I went to LAPTOPTOGO tried to download a couple of the beta drivers but they didn't work so I stopped messing around with them went straight to the 285.62 which is there last updated version that isn't beta. I replaced the .inf with there modded .inf version and It Installed!!!!!! So Im currently running on the 285.62. I tried out Skyrim on ultra and was running 50 to 30 fps in dungeons which are most GPU intensive, but even before I still had these results....... Skyrim was never the problem. However I went into counterstrike source did there video stress test and scored on average 117 fps. So I thought I was good. I joined a game was at 120 fps then I would go to 0 then back up to 120 fps then to 0 then back to 120. League of legends I still get the lag and sound bugs. So the less graphic intensive games I'm lagging in. Could it be that those games are barely putting any usage on my GPU so when it does put a little usage on it and the GPU kicks in and that makes me lag?

    You're welcome sir. :)

Awiggz20 - that 1.1 bios hydra asked about - a lot of folks on the toshiba forums are saying rolling back to that fixes the lag (throttling) you are seeing in games.
