Yeah you've got a driver issue or something then, it's going to be borderline impossible to debug without reinstalling windows.
Though you could possibly try just installing all the drivers again -
you cant just drag and dropped you have to litterlly clone the drive so what i would do is if u have the original hhd is start over, but this time use a cloning software and just clone itthats all and it will work exactly the same as the original.

I did i used Macrium Reflect Free edition as the intel bundled software wouldn't clone from a bigger hard drive to a smaller one. Should I use another cloning software ? which would you suggest ?
-
Ok, I could try that. The thing is: When is first built in my ssd (samsung 830, 256 gbyte), I did a fresh install of windows. I had the problem there as well... (then, for sending the vaio in to let the sony people have a look on the fan - they said, there is no unusal noise - I needed to put in the old harddrive and it needed a recovery suddenly)
So after all I had the problem twice with the factory windows installed and once with my own clean win7 install. Coincidence? Or could it be some hardware fault...? -
ya i get u when i bought my crucial ssd it came with some crap cloning software that did the same so instead i used true image 2013 which is fully windows 8 compatible i just downloaded it off their website and made a usb cpoy of their program using their software i shutt off my system pluged in the usb and wala! it runs and asks u what u wanna do just click clone drive. that simple. idk if the demo still lets u do that but if it doesnt just go to piratebay and dlw it works exactly the same ussually the one with the highest seeds are the best one.

The integrated memory controller (IMC) greatly increases performance
when storing or accessing data due to low latency and multiple data
paths. The IMC can support two dual inline memory modules (DIMMs) of
unbuffered DDR3 memory. The 3rd generation Intel Core processor added
support for the DDR3 1600 MHz memory speeds, which increased memory
performance. Compared to the previous-generation embedded controller
using the 2nd generation Intel Core processor, memory capabilities
have grown from DDR3 1333 MHz to 1600 MHz. A system with two channels
of DDR3 1600 MHz RAM has a theoretical memory bandwidth of 37.0 GB/s
compared to a system using two channels of DDR3 1333 MHz RAM having a
theoretical memory bandwidth of 21.3 GB/s. This results in an up to 74
percent theoretical memory bandwidth increase.

Don't know if this has been addressed but.. on Windows 8, if you go to Properties of your speakers and go to the Enhancements tab, check the Loudness Equalization. The volume of your speakers will be much, much louder (and as we know, these speakers are a bit weak right out of the box). Just a little tip ^_^v

I don't entirely eat my words after receiving my new SVS151190XLBOM, it would have been nice if Sony had prepared it for the Ivy Bridge 3rd Gen core processors by upgrading to 1600Mhz RAM, I feel confident that the system could be running almost 20% faster if they had, but man what a fine piece of machinery. I like everything about it that I've seen so far. The one thing that bothers me other than 1333Mhz RAM is the 39 GB deduction of hard drive space, from 256, as it is stated to be 217GB with 161GB as is, a difference of 56GBavailable from 217, but it was advertised as a 256GB drive. 161 from 256 is 85GB could Windows 7 and all the included software on the Vaio, plus the recovery partition, and the page file, and the sleep/hibernate 12GB reserve account for all that much? I suspect that once I create a recovery disk set about 40% of this will be recovered, as I seem to recall hearing or reading somewhere, maybe on another computer I had just gotten, that a mirror image of everything that is to go on the recovery disks will occupy space on the drive until they've been burned. I'll burn them sooner or later, but 161GB it is till then. Makes me miss how small XP was...best...Ira

This problem is very annoying, can anybody please help me and Scorpieleven?

Agreed, this is better than the Bass Boost 100hz alone for high volumes. Worse for low volume listening however.exProphecy said: ↑Don't know if this has been addressed but.. on Windows 8, if you go to Properties of your speakers and go to the Enhancements tab, check the Loudness Equalization. Also on a completely unrelated note, fan speed seems to have drastically improved in windows 8. No longer does it spin up if the CPU usage sneaks above 8-10% briefly, and the low speed on Balanced is quieter than before. -
According to Popular Photography, March 2012 pg 62 article titled Machine Shop, you should definitely opt for a Quad core processor for best results retouching using Photoshop. RAM is the next most important component the article goes on to say. This is where Photoshop performs most of it's calculations. When working on large image files check it's efficiency in the bottom left corner. If you get a rating of 95% or higher it means Photoshop is running in RAM Below 80% and you will see a major bump in speed by adding more RAM to your system. To take advantage of the extra RAM be certain that you are running Photoshop in 64 bit mode, in 32 bit mode you won't be able to use more than 3.2GB, but 64 bit mode will utilize all you have installed. On par with RAM is a recommendation from Adobe's engineers to use a Solid State Hard Drive of 256GB or larger capacity. Set it up as the Operating System boot drive, and install Photoshop on it, then set it as the SWAP (or scratch) disk where any calculatiions take place if Photoshop runs out of space in the RAM. The faster the scratch disk the better. Because SSDs unlike normal hard drives are all electronic you never have to wait for moving parts to get into place. Finally make sure you have a decent Graphics Card (GPU) This used to be irrelevant for Photoshop, but as GPUs have improved, Photoshop has been programmed to take greater advantage of them. Almost as important as the computer you work on is the monitor, or monitors on which yo uview your images. Two monitors are better than one, and many retouchers choose a high end display for their primary work, keeping a secondary consumer level display for their panels, and toolbars. Contemporary monitors are primarily made using one of two technologies. The vast majority of mainstream displays are twisted nematic, or TN; higher end displays use in plane switching, or IPS. The main difference between them is viewing angle. With TN you'll see color corruption from any angle but straight on. IPS displays are wide view and can show color that is more consistent and accurate across the panel. For better color accuracy LED backlight technology is key....best...Iradjcuse said: ↑Here is a quick question.. Below are the specs on an S 15.5" that I'm looking to custom order. I also purchased the 15.5 S series, and I must say it has the most detailed, clear, and color accurate display I have seen on any notebook. I also plan to use it for Photoshop retouching, and video editing on site when shooting. I am yet to install Photoshop, but I have viewed a number of hi res photos, including those with red colors, and have not noticed any discoloration of the reds as has been described with these photos, however, reds such as the McDonald's network background, did look orangish, but I haven't seen it on another display to compare. As for the reds that I have photographed, perfect accuracy -
What do you use to clean your S with? The screen, the touchpad, the top of the lid? Do you use any chemicals?
I'm often taking mine around quite dusty environments and so far been using the microfiber cloth from my glasses but it's only good for the smooth surfaces. -
hi guys
Im a product designer, and i work with programs like 3ds max, solidworks, photoshop and illustrator...
can you guys tell me if the sony vaio s with qc i7, ssd and 8 gb of ram would be fine for the work that i do??
btw, should i pick the s13p or s15?? the build quality is good on these laptops??
thanks a lot -
Hello,
Would you recommend this: ADATA S511 120GB | Pure Overclock SSD-drive for Vaio s13p? For 78 from local store it seems a quite good deal to me. Does anybody have experience of a-data´s drives? -
Me have the ADATA SX900 which is 240GB, a pure marvel. Right now it's in my Dell Vostro 3700 pending receiving my new S15, mid-week ?PeK_m said: ↑Hello,

I upgraded the RAM first, nothing to write home.
Then I upgraded the HDD to SDD -> What a game changer ! Dazzling fast now.
Then I upgraded the CPU, could not tell if it improved...
My ADATA is first thing I'll change upon reception of the s15

Thank you for your response. Maybe I will give adata a shot. Maybe not the fastest around there but price is definitely good.nt123 said: ↑Me have the ADATA SX900 which is 240GB, a pure marvel. Right now it's in my Dell Vostro 3700 pending receiving my new S15, mid-week ?

Screen size is irrelevant cos you need an external monitor for that matter. Just remember S15 display is better but it also weights more. -
If you're a product designer, don't use this laptop except if you have an external display. The fact that it doesn't display reds correctly means that it isn't really fit for graphics design (that is my personal experience though, ymmv).
-
If you work with graphic design and such I think there are almost no laptops fit for you if you don't use an external display.
If you do, this laptop can and will run your 3D programs and whatnot... -
Just one quick question, how do I get rid of Right-Click? I only want the two-handed touch to function as the Right-Click button.
I want the whole trackpad to be Left-Click when I click it anywhere.
Thanks in advance! -
i also work with photoshop and illustrator.. it doesnt mean that i need a lot of color accuracy, but i want something more or less respectable..XD...
i was thinking buying the s15 with ssd , 8gb of ram and qci7.... its about 1500euros..
but im seeing now the thinkpad w530... 2000euros with the k2000m anc core i7 and ssd...
i care about the battery and portability...im owner of a sony vaio fw so i want a creen no bigger than 15..
wich one should i buy??
btw THANKS A LOT

Where can I find instructions to remove the LCD panel of the S15?
This screen bleeding of mine seems to be extending

This thing is unbelievably fragile to drops - a ~30cm drop inside a bag AND neoprene case and another corner is buckled on mine...
Plastic is definitely a smarter material for laptops -
Buy an Apple Mac with Retina or even regular display. There are way too many complaints regarding the red / orange issue with the Sony screens. Build quality (Apple) is amazing and a lot better than the Sony Vaio range. AppleCare is also very professional - if anyone has experienced Sony's poor customer service you'll know what I'm talking about.danielguedes said: ↑Please guys, say something...im dont know if it is a good purchase..

(1) I carefully read the OP -- worth it's weight in gold!
(2) Downloaded the S15 drivers/software from Sony's support page
(3) Copied the Win 7 Professional installation to an 8GB USB thumb drive
(4) Booted into BIOS (wow it IS hard to press F2 fast enough!), changed boot mode to Legacy, enabled boot to external device, and made sure external device had first boot priority

Hi guys, new here.
Just got my S15 yesterday and i already have quite a serious problem: the fan won't stop blowing, and it's blowing at maximum speed. I've set stamina mode to priority to silence and speed mode to priority to ventilation but there's no difference. Whatever i do and try the fan just keeps blowing at maximum speed which makes a lot of noise and is very annoying. Think it's a driver problem but everything seems to be updated and running well. Don't really know what to do... Any help would be very appreciated! -
I'll be posting a quick and short clean update guide for windows 8 within the next 48 hours.
It'll be brief and simple and geared for the S15 but it should carry over fine for the 13 inch as well. -

I don't have my laptop on me at the moment (gasp!) But it has to do with the drivers to turn that right click off. You can right click it in device manager or in the task bar icon. You can adjust the size of that and a few other things.... I'm not sure of the whole turning it off though.
Btw, not that any of the recent posts have made me think this but... wouldn't it be great if in certain threads like this one. You have to take a quiz on the information in the first post before you could post... just on the big name issues.

That was very fast for a factory restore. If I remember correctly, doesn't it take a couple hours? Anyways, Download cpu I'd and gpuz and check temps and speeds of both. If either look out of wack then perhaps a messed up driver or a hardware issue such as poor thermal paste job, or heat sink connection failure. In that case do a full return and buy again.Ditzel said: ↑Thanks for your reply, sadly it didn't work. Resetting windows to the factory settings also didn't help. you have to do a reset not resfresh a reset which takes hours and clean drive you can do this by the assisst button on vaio see if that works itll restore everything exactly how it came.Ditzel said: ↑Thanks for your reply, sadly it didn't work. i dont think the fan problem will be fixed by a refresh.... or reset. but neither of them take me very long. with windows 8 the whole thing has been shortened. hours and hours is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much
the only way to make it take hours is if you clean the drive (aka wipe it or write random data over the drive multiple times as it will need to write 500+ gb of data... this is not necessary unless you are worried about the security of the data your wiping but for starting fresh it will not be needed) -
Hallo to all Sony owners!
I have a problem I hope you can help me with.
I got a SVS1511C5E and ordered with 2x128GB = 256 GB SSD drive.
But i found out that it was not enough for me so i ordered a Intel 520 480 GB SSD.
When i opened the computer for the replacement i found the 256 GB SSD used a different kind of cable then you guys mention in the first post for when you order a normal HDD.
So i'm asking you guys, what cable do i need to get so i can install my Intel 520 SSD disk?
Also have anyone successfully cloned a Sony raid 0 SSD to a normal SSD?
Thanks for responding.

idk but if the cable is connected to a different port as well then that would explain why we cant get sata3 speeds out of the darn thing

In Belgium you would pay 1098,99EUR for a brand new one which is about 1,408.69USD so I'm guessing it's a pretty good price.
It having a i5-3210 CPU and Windows 8, means it isn't that old of a laptop right?
How old is it? -
I actually did not receive it yet, so it is brand new. The prices in the US are much different and I am sure other buyers could get it at much cheaper price. it is basic i5NGDM said: ↑In Belgium you would pay 1098,99EUR which is about 1,408.69USD so I'm guessing it's a pretty good price.

You SHOULD be able to order the hard drive cable for a generic PATA model like my SVS1511AGXB from Sony parts. I say "should" because it's possible that the connector on the mobo is different for the RAID ssd versions...but I bet it's not....that would cost Sony extra money to have 2 mobos where they could have just one. But you WILL need a new cable from mobo to the drive because the Sony SSD daughter board is proprietary!woodypower said: ↑If one of the guys that have change the disk can give med the part number for the cable it would be great.
