About Dolby Home Theater. Do any of you have the install file -- or can point me to the install file -- for the advanced setup? I did this before a long time ago, but had to reinstall, and now left w/ the lame one from Sony that has no options. I am looking for the one that has the full EQ. I believe I got it from Toshiba before but now I cannot find it for the life of me. Any ideas, please?

I am running a Z3 (SVZ1311C5E) with a large external screen and would like to use my phone's (Xperia Z2) throw feature to watch videos and pictures and streams from my phone on the large screen. I've been trying to figure this out since several hours and can't find anything helpful on the Internet. Sony claims that 'some' laptops support DLNA streaming and that one should refer to the Vaio's manual. Is the Z3 DLNA enabled? Did any of you figure out how this works?

Purchased Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 (W8) new which has the BluRay 3D player capability. I figured that even though it was W8; it should be backwards compatible for W7.
When I try to play BluRay movies in the CD/DVD/BD player on the Z3; the PowerDVD 11 software starts, but will not play ANY BluRay movie that I have. Tried updating the software on the website, but still have had no luck getting the discs to play on the Z3. I have played these same movies with the Sony version of PowerDVD on my VPCF215FX with no problems.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

    Hallo to everyone

I just purchased a new sony SVZ ( old stock ) to upgrade my Rig from VPCZ1.

Btw, I just wanna ask about the Bios. Have someone tried to unlock all hidden option on Bios..? I mean, like the VPCZ1, there should be many locked option in the Bios. Example : Vt-X, Vt-D, CPU Thermal Management, etc

It would be great if we could unlock all those advanced option in Bios. We can gain some more performance from that

    Thanks

Not that I know of, I provided my BIOS to a member here to attempt to unlock it, but I don't think he ever got around to it. He had done it for previous Z's, but just never heard from him after.

Are you still using your svz until now..?

It's really dissapointed since we know that the Z is more powerfull than we think. For example was the VPCZ1. I used it before without knowing any bios unlock possibilities for 2 years, than after unlock it on 2013, I can even upgrade it with eGpu

Btw, are you using eGpu with your SVZ..? It would be great quad core + eGpu

Yup, still use it every single day. Haven't found anything I want to replace it with, the new Razer 2014 14" model is close, but not fond of that logo on the lid :D Funny how this far into it's life cycle I can't find something with it's combination of CPU/Weight/LCD quality/beauty. The only thing I wish for is better battery life. I don't have a mPCIe slot so no eGPU for me.

you may mod the chassis of yours like this link :

DIY eGPU guide for sony VAIO VPC-Z2 & SVZ13

It may seem a little ugly, but it's better than the original PMD. Just need find the best enclosure for the mpcie hole, and the Z would likely become the ultimate lightweight, quad core cpu, nice LCD, with eGPU Laptop ever made

But for sure, the SVZ would hold until 4 or 5 years

I've seen MikJoa's work, but my SVZ doesn't have a WLAN/PCIE slot, I already opened and checked when I first saw his thread. It's ok, the HD4000 is enough for the indie games I play on my notebook as I mainly use it for work.

How could that possible..? I think as long as you have Wifi Card installed, than you have mPcie slot in your computer.

Btw, can I get some personal opinion..? Are you satisfied with your SVZ until now..? For daily use, or heavy task..?

I think I should get some opinion, since I can return the item in 3 days if I'm not satisfied with the new SVS I bought

    thanks

Yes, I have the slot for wifi, but the one he uses is the one for WLAN which the USA models did not have as an option, the whole slot is missing. I love it, I think it's great, only wish the battery life was a little better. I believe it's far superior to an SVS. Of course, it depends how much you paid for it, if i was spending 1200+ USD , i'd probably buy the Razer Blade 14 despite the ugly lid.

    Hallo

    Thanks for your advice

    I spend it 810 Euro ( around 1100 USD ) for a new. And It's a 15th anniversary + 512GB SSD

I don't know if that a little bit too expensive or not. May be I will use the SVZ as secondary laptop, the first ist still the beloved VPCZ1 ^^

    Hallo

I did a clean instal today. But I just realized after that, that my SVZ don't have any Wi Fi switch like the Z2.

Then how could I disable the Wi Fi if I didn't want instal any sony driver..?

    thanks

There is still some SVZ out there ( I see 3 SVZ in ebay germany and US ). But I'm not sure if they're in good condition, or anniversary edition

Both the sata 2 and 3 fit. Sata 6 what on earth? Sata 3 is 6Gbit/s. The model you want is mzrpc512xxxx. For reference the sata2 you don't want starts with mzrpa512.

    Hello

By the way, have someone here a broken or an unused Power Media Dock and want to donate it to the community for a Hardware hack and experiment ..?

As you know it, the Z2 or SVZ PMD have a light peak technology with 10GB per second transfer rate. And light peak is a same interface as Thunderbolt with 4x lane pcie Express. Thats mean, we can have something like thunderbolt in our SVZ, and make a very powerfull eGPU possible. Like desktop class Laptop

I'm a Z2 owner.....but I do have two PMD's one with the BluRay burner...one with a BluRay player. I've opened both of them to repaste the graphics chip so I'm fairly familiar with their internals. What did you have in mind? I'd LOVE to see us find a way to get eGPU access through Light Peak....but right now I don't see how. Thoughts?

Trouble is...Apple chose to implement Thunderbolt with WIRED connectors....Sony chose OPTICAL...which is more elegant and forward thinking...but got them (& us) nowhere. Not the first time this has happened....think Betamax & VHS!

Where did you purchase you 1311CHXXI?? Do they have a web site? Are there any others available?? Love to get my hands on one. Any info appreciated!!

    Hallo

There is some people who can hack, but they need to experiment it first. I saw them on other thread, and on eGPU Version 2.0 thread. But since no one will donate a PMD, or at least unworking PMD, no one can make another eGPU implementation possible ( through vaio light peak port )

I got a new SVZ1311CHXXI from a seller in USA. He didnt knew, that this SVZ is a 15th anniversary edition. Lucky me, I got a cheaper 810 Euro excl. Tax

I think the problem is where to a port to access at high bandwidth. The Light Peak is pretty well acknowledged to have up to 5gbits/sec (x4 speed) so it would certainly do the job. So would an mPCIe port if there was one on the PMD. There isn't. The only access is the SATA port for the optical drive and 2 usb's. The fibers for the LP are routed through the blue plastic block with in the hybrid usb/LP port on the lappy. From there they run through the docking cable and straight into the mobo on the PMD making them very hard to access unless you know exactly how Sony designed them. I believe the ViDock folks tried to get this info and failed. Sony is very tight with such information. There was a LOT of discussion of this 2 years ago and then all the threads go dead in mid 2012. Like you I would love to find out how to do this but with the exception of the Mikoja's implementation of a tie in through the mPCIe slot on the bottom left of the lappy....none came to anything. Thread references on request. The ONLY success I know of was through the mPCIe slot! And that requires cutting a hole in the bottom of the notebook.

The HM77 chipset in your SVZ seems to have the same PCI Express 2.0 specification that the HM67 chipset in my Z2 has...PCI 2.0.

    See these links:

As far as I can tell the big changes for HM77 were the 3612QM processor, native usb 3.0 support and HD4000 graphics....most everything else stayed the same.

Minor annoyance that I usually ignore or work around but I just want to know if i'm the only one or if someone found a solution. The issue is that often when I wake the SVZ from sleep, the brightness is lower than it should be. Using the keyboard controls shows max brightness but it's more like 70% and 100% won't come back until after a reboot. I've tried multiple Intel video drivers and problem continues.

I had the VPCZ2 manual and someone has released it for the SVZ finally. Find it via your favourite search engine or drop me PM if no luck!

    Just teardown my SVZ1311CHXXI

Replace the old thermal paste + thermal pad with a IC Diamond + 0,6 Copper shim for HM77 Chipset

And now planning to make a hole with better construktion to attach a PE4L for eGPU ( may be a screwable door )

Just find something interesting. For those who have a glossy premium carbon, you will have a bottom chassis ( and may be screen chassis too ) with different pattern than a picture I posted here. there is no carbon fiber pattern on glossy fiber carbon

Are you getting better temps? I got slightly better temps after replacing the thermal paste, maybe 3-4C at load, the best part is that with moderate use the temp avg stays lower so there's less fan noise. If you work in clean environments I would remove the fan mesh filter, I did. I would imagine it improves air flow.

Stillnot tested it now. Already reassemble, but still stay turn off since I'm not finished with the bottom chassis's eGPU door

But, it should be more better than the default thermal paste

    Already test it

    Under load with aida64 :
    1. FPU test 84 celcius
    2. Cpu test 73 celcius
    3. idle 43 celcius
    4. normal standard use ( browsing, etc ) 54

I did some modification to the heatsink and fan. Add a 0,3mm copper shim to the cpu and 0,6mm shim to chipset. Then some heatsink mod since I saw, that the air flow will be waste some how because there is a big hole gap between the heatsink and fan. because of this, the airflow will not 100% flow through the heat sink fin. And then use some grease to make the fan more quiter

    Hi

May I ask, if someone here use the SVZ with closed lid while the laptop still running? ( not for gaming purpose, and the power option : energie saveing mode, and the cpu temperatur at 50 - 57 celcius )

    Thanks

    Hello,

I broke the screen of my SV-Z1311C5E (bought in Germany), resolution is 1600*900. I will be in Bangkok for a while and I thought to replace the screen by myself. I found out, Model number of the screen must be LT131EE12000. But on aliexpress.com there are many different screens, range from 75 € to 250 €. I don't want to take the risk to get a low quality screen, so I better go for the original. But can't find one.

Is there any source to search? What should the original cost? If there is any tutorial how to replace the screen, a link would be highly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance guys :)

    All the best
    Andy

I recommend you take this opportunity to upgrade to the full HD 1920x1080 screen. This will future proof your SVZ for a while.

Is the LT131EE11000 right? Might be an opportunity. I have chosen the 1600*900 because I thought higher resolution makes it hard the read and work with text documents.
From the technical side, it doesn't matter if I replace with 1920*1080? How do I find a hight quality screen and do I need additional model number, looks like there is a slim version as well. Or all LT131EE11000 are the same and will definitely fit?

    Thanks!
    Andy

Scaling works well enough so you can have text at any size. It will be crisper. My vpcz1 had 1600x900. This was nice in 2010. Now some 13" notebooks come with qhd+, 3200x1800. My svz has full hd and I can assure you it is great. Google the service manual to ensure you have the right model number and make sure the display cable is the same between the hd+ and fhd panels.

Yes, you are right. I go for the 1920*1080! I found only this service manual: https://synrc.com/vaio/SVZ/SVZ131_SM.pdf but I can't get a model number for the screen out of it. I haven't opened my computer yet because it is still usable with kind of black stripes from left to right because of some broken LCD cells.

Any Idea how to make sure to get the right one? And most important, how do I get an original screen and not a crappy Chinese screen. Find no source to order it.

    Thanks a lot!

No good these are for the vpcz1. Search for z2 or svz screens instead.

    Sorry for bothering you all.

I opened the computer and had a look at the screen label: B131RW02 V.0 Its manufactured by AU Optronics, Made in Japan (ZB1)

Specification says 30 PIN connector. But if I look at the 1920*1080 resolution screens, it says 40 PIN. Is it really working to install the 1900*1080 instead of the 1600*900? Same connector?

Maybe I haven't found the right screen jet, I thought to find the HD Version just replace the W02 with W01...but no, it must have another model number. Damn :-(

    Thanks

So this leads me to believe b131rw02 is lt131ee12000, hd+ whereas b131hw02 is lt131ee11000, full hd. Perhaps I was wrong and the vpcz1 indeed accepts the same panels as the vpcz2 and svz. Hope someone who successfully replaced a panel could confirm.
