For the drivers on the device manager you have yellow exclamation?

    1)Download the Nvidia Driver v335.23 from here: v335.23 Windows 8 64bit | NVIDIA OEM Mobile - GeForce r334 series - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

2)Download the inf file from the same page Ctrl+A Ctrl+C and paste to the notepad.
3)Save the inf to notepad with file name: nv_dispi.inf and save as type:All files to your desktop.
4)Now open the nv_dispi.inf with notpad and go to [nv_miscBase_addreg] section and in the end of the line (HKR,,UserModeDriverGUID,%REG_SZ%,"{9A516B97-E7C1-451B-9165-C5035994A3F5}") paste my settings. Would find it in the same page post #9 antoniss2k.

For Windows 8.1 have to turned off driver signature enforcement first.

Do not erase anything just do as I say. Do not be copied twice [nv_miscBase_addreg] only my settings.
Now open the nv_dispi.inf with notpad and go to [nv_miscBase_addreg] section and in the end of the line (HKR,,UserModeDriverGUID,%REG_SZ%,"{9A516B97-E7C1-451B-9165-C5035994A3F5}") paste my settings.

I am sure that you are doing something wrong. i don't know how more simple i can explain to you. You cannot help me! tell me at what point you are stuck.

Get "Display Driver Uninstaller" here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...drivers/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-v6-1/1
Scroll down till you see: DOWNLOAD Latest version HERE ...and download the latest version..V12.9.5.1
Double click DDU V12.9.5.1.exe to extract the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) right on your desktop. It will put 4 files on your desktop.
Unhook all internet connections. Then double click: Display Driver Uninstaller.exe to run the uninstaller...when it opens, choose the buttons as shown in the pic below.
    1. Choose NVIDIA by the top blue dot.
    2. Choose the BIG button by the next lower ...blue dot.
    3. DO NOT CHECK THE BOX BY THE LOWEST BLUE DOT.

    http://s9.postimg.org/bnu0p457z/4_L2tm_Id.jpg

The program will start running when you click the big button by the middle blue dot... wait for it to finish... screen may go black, but will come back...the LOG box at the bottom will tell you when it is done. Then reboot your computer. Screen will be all large.. this is what we want.

When comp is done rebooting....go to START >Settings>Change Pc Settings>Update And Recovery>Recovery>Restart Now>
    turn off driver signature enforcement>
How to Disable Driver Signature Verification on 64-Bit Windows 8.1 (So That You Can Install Unsigned Drivers)

    Now Download the Nvidia Drivers 337.50 win8 x64 from hire: v337.50 Windows 8 64bit | NVIDIA Mobile OEM - GeForce r337 series - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

And then scroll down and find the post from (nozero) Modded INF for Vaio (FZ, AR, AW, CW, CS) and click on nvszci.inf to download it on your desktop..

When the drivers and the .inf file is downloaded press extract to: 33750_win8x64 to your desktop and then go to 33750_win8x64 folder and open it and find Display.Driver open it. Now copy pate (replaced) the Modded INF nvszci.inf in Display.Driver and you ready.

Now it's time to install the new Nvidia driver. Rehook the internet, and double click the Nvidia driver Icon (setup)...to start the driver install.
During the install choose: CUSTOM ...then ONLY install the Graphics driver, the HD Audio driver and the PhysX driver.
UNCHECK everything else. The right underneath the check boxes, put a check mark in the box called: Perform a Clean Install.
Windows Security will show a message indicating “Windows can’t verify the publisher of this driver software,” click Install this driver software anyway.Your screen might blink or turn black during this process. All you need to do is to be patient.

    Restart Your Computer!READY!
if not do it and now I can not do anything else.
    How old are you;

Before start the installation turn off driver signature enforcement and then Go to: Sony : VGN-AW11Z : VAIO Media Plus and download drivers for windows 7 x64 (TV Tuner Card Driver - NA if you have ) BIOS - R1054Y2 (Intel Sata driver registry patch - 080619a if you have ssd do not download you don't needed) and all Memory Card Reader Writer Driver Ricoh SD CPRM - NA for Audio driver realtek go to http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
and download new High Definition Audio Codecs

First installed them all that you need and then Restart
Also no need to install drivers for vaio you don't needed

First of all, 337.50 beta and 337.88 whql, are very buggy, I suggest that you get rid of, asap. Latest working driver for your GPU is 331.82 or even better 314.22.
Also, you do not have to go each time to laptopvideo2go, you can learn do it yourself, it takes about 2 minutes or less, and also I'm not sure that the laptopvideo2go modded .infs always apply the correct sections-EDID's for you specific model, thus the display issue you mentionned.
    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

Sadly almost 5 yrs after buying my AW41ZF it is on it's last legs. The screen is still stunning (bar a blemish where I squashed a bug that had somehow crawled underneath!). However dust & age mean I struggle with power, overheating and usage beyond 20mins when it shuts down....presumably to avoid combusting!

In this time large screen monitors have became incredibly rare. To get an 18.4" there seems to be only Alienware. My biggest concern is finding a large screen with high image quality and power. Gaming laptops mostly seem to carry sub standard screens unfortunately. 15.6 screens give more quality...but are so small after this monster.

Wish Vaio was still going strong with Sony :(

    hello friends,

I give you important information about the improvement of the CPU with the QX9300 ... well, it does not work, I buy and test it myself ...

the computer turns on but neither the bios or Windows starts, just a black screen and even the fan starts about 5 second after you press the button on !!!
    I am so sad!

(AC is 19.5v, 6.2A so 120.9watts therefore change the adapter is useless)

So please, if anyone has tried the Q9100 or X9100, thank you for the temperature and their opinion on the matter because I read that some people allowed to try the other as the T9800 but that didn 'not interested because they are not efficient enough for me ... (even though the T9900 is the X9100 with low consumption)

and bios, if anyone has a solution to remove the blockage to look at all the information? thank you

    bye

(proper cleaning of the computer, I gain 20 ° C)

    I hear your Pain.

I own a AW120D since 2009 and it still works very well. I always kept it over a dual vent cooling base.

I feel its time to replace it though. 4gb of ram Just doesn't cut it anymore.

The question is: Replace this beauty with what?
Today's market all I see are small screens. The 18.4 Alienware is out of the question for me as it is bulky and way too expensive.

I'm considering downsizing a bit and get the HP Envy Touchsmart 17.3, it has a decent set of features (just no bluray) for the price (~1000 dollars here in Canada)

I wonder if it is worth to sell this Vaio and how much could I get for it on e-bay.
Maybe I should just keep it around for family use.

You only have to remove the little central screw from the large plastic panel on the back.

    Hi, I have a VGN-AW11XU which sadly don't boot anymore :(

The PSU seems to work (I tried another one that behaves the same), when I push the start button the laptop lights the leds on the multimedia panel over the keyboard, the optical drive seems to startup, the cpu fan seems to run but nothing else happens, nothing on the screen, no sign of OS boot (no hard drives sound).

I fear something went wrong on the board or the video card, in past I revived some notebook video cards, but with this laptop I don't know how to open it, someone have suggestions for reaching the system board and CPU or have a service manual to share?

    Thanks.

    Tas

I've been having issue with my AW31M/H laptop screen, couple months ago started flickering and then the blacklight went out completely. Bit of research and i eventually replaced the inverter. It fixed the issue although every now and then it would still flicker but so fast it would be barely noticeable. But it went completely blank again this week so I thought it might be the inverter so ordered another. Replacing hasn't solved the issue, it flickers on for half a second as I unplug and plug the inverter back in and makes a electrical intereference kind of noise from the screen, before going blank again.

Just wondering if people thought it was a dodgy inverter, the lamps themselves or possibly the inverter cable?

    Thanks in advance

new member here, own the aw220j/h (8141L)

i was asked to install windows on this beautiful machine a few years ago. I put windows 7 and rebooted a few times....everything was perfect. My customer brought it back to me a week later and said it didnt work. Apparently she gave it to someone and had no idea why it quit working.

ok so i take it home and inspect it....no obvious physical damage....but will not boot. It turns on, you can hear the cd rom spin/seek....screen completely dark. Even when plugged in to external monitor nothing. The quickplay media keys all light up when touched...but caps lock and number lock keys do not turn on light indicators. USB drive will light up when plugged in.

I am at a total loss here....is it the graphics card? if so why dont the caps/number lock keys light up and cntrl alt del dont cause the computer to restart? very strange.....could these be symptoms of a fried mobo from the lappy getting too much juice?

so sad such a pretty paper weight....im about ready to put it on ebay but i keep holding out hope i can find a mobo schematic i can use to check out all the traces with a multimeter and see where its gone wonky.....

any suggestions would be welcome....its physically flawless other than the fact it doesnt turn on....

    hmmph!

    Hi.
    I own Sony VAIO VGN-AW41MF. Sony :VGN-AW41MF :
The stock CPU is P7450(2.13G) which is rather old now.... Im thinking of upgrating this one.

    1. I have read some pages and I saw some ppl suggested X9100(3.06G) as the most powerful one. Is this true?
    What about T9900(3.06G) and T9800(2.93G)?
P9700(2.8G) looks good as well, price-wise.
    Will they fit my laptop?

    2. When looking for the cpu should I just look for "socket P"?

    3. Will any 2.5" SSD fit the laptop?

    4. What kind of DVD drive will fit as my blu-ray combo doesnt work anymore? Connection type etc pls

PS. im also struggling with removing the cover as the guy above me...

    Thank you very much! :)

Hi folks, I have just changed the battery of my AW11S, because since long time it was shutting down immediately after a couple of minutes even with full charge, and the charge indicator never going under 70%.
So I opened the Sony battery pack with the idea to change the cells and get a spare pack, but before that I checked the cell voltages.
It has been a surprise to discover that all cells were perfectly charged, with 3.95V each, 11.9V total.
So I though that, probably under load the voltage would drop fast, because some faulty cell not storing the charge.
To check I have plugged the batteries directly to a 22 Ohm load to get about 500mA drain, monitoring the voltage.
It is already ten minutes that I have the test running, the voltage is stable at 11.4V, the battery is nicely cool and the load quite hot.

So I'm wondering, why the hell was the laptop shutting down without notice after one minute?
The new battery works fine, so I don't think it is a problem of the laptop.
The cells of the old battery holds charge perfectly, and get charged fine too, so they are also fine.
The only thing remaining is the internal circuit of the battery.

Any idea? It seems like there is some protection triggering the shutdown without reason.

(15 minutes now, 11.35V and holding...)

    Another interesting thing.
At pin 1 of the battery connector there is no voltage. This pin seems connected to batteries though Q50 and Q52, which seems connected in series (that PCB is impossible to follow...). The transistor code is erased, so I cannot be sure of the pinout, but Q50 (the first one, connected directly to positive pole of batteries) seems fine, while Q52 seems open. This could explain why I'm not getting voltage at battery output. Does someone have any schematics??

    Something strange is happening...
In the last two days, when I open the laptop, the screen lamp flickers a bunch of times.
It is not flickering between on and off, but between max and min brightness, and I hear a FZZZZZZ noise, like the one that could make a poor electrical contact.
What could it be? A dying lamp or a dying inverter?

So I upgraded my VGN-AW41MF with T9900 [email protected]. Using ThrottleStop program and unchecking BD Prochot I can enjoy the full performance of the CPU while on battery(normally on the battery the cpu would stay always at its lowest "C" state; 1.6GHz for T9900).

I changed one of the HDDs to SSD. Sandisk Ultra II 120GB is doing great job here! The system now runs blazingly fast while there's still plenty of storage space available(120GB SSD+500GB HDD).

    Now I'm waiting for delivery of 2x4GB 800MHz DDR2 modules to replace my 2x2GB 800MHz DDR2 modules.

I also changed the genuine battery(4400mAh) to 6600mAh one with some high quality cells. I can enjoy the laptop for hours now !

    Cheerz

    Edit://
Oh, I almost forgot. When I was changing the CPU I put some proper thermal paste there(Gelid GC Extreme); on GPU too.
At load(3D mark) my temps are 62C even with this mega overpowered CPU lol!

    It's been a while since anyone has posted, I hope there'ss a few die-hards still out there;
I have one of the first 18.4 inch AW series: AW11XU verson with Vista Ulitmate OS, well it died again last night, the laptop wouldn't boot up after serval attemps to fix the issue with the usual VAIO recovery tools I went for a complete recovery. I have SSD drive for OS so the D drive and my data won't be effected. After attempting the fix using my trused recovery disks. Disk 1 gets to 25% and then flags an error 305:64 and error: 319 and then goes back to the VAIO recovery centre. Can I assume that the recovery disks are knackered or is there a problem with SSD drive. If the disk are knackered what are my option??

Is upgrading to WIN7 striaght forward?? SHould I get new SSD drive and start again, if so can anyone recommend a SSD that works with the VAIO. Im reluctant to bin the laptop as the screen is still good.

ANy fedback from any die-hards still out there would be much appreciated.

Hi, I can answer only to the Win7 part. I didn't have any issue in upgrading to Win7, everything went fine at the first attempt. It may be a bit tricky now to find some driver because I don't know if the Vaio website still have all the information, but you can always look on internet with the code of the unrecognized peripheral. Compared with the downgrade to WinXP, upgrading to Win7 was like a dream.
I am experiencing also some random issue with the HD controller. The PC can run fine for one month and then give me a 0x07 BSOD (hardware failure), but since it started when I upgraded both SSD and HDD, I don't know where it comes from. A bit annoying, but not as much as fixing it :D so I keep it as it is for the time being.
I have also some problem with the backlight. It failed, so I bought the replacement, and then it started to work almost fine again! Now it just flickers a little when I open the screen, but it works fine.
I fear the day that this computer would die: I will never able to find another so good as this one. I have another Vaio which is just a toy compared with my AW11S, less performing, more noisy and fragile.

I am currently running on Win 10 64-bit (build 10240) and having no problems with graphic drivers. Driver version is 8.15.11.8656 date 29.07.2009.
Sadly I no longer know if it was downloaded from Windows update or if I used Sony driver :(.
Did you try installing preinstalled Win 7 drivers?

I have found all the replacements I needed on ebay, sometimes after finding the part number looking around on google. Have you tried that?

problem is, i dont think there is only the rubber part, all i did find is the complete palm rest, but for this i would have to take the complete notebook apart.

    Hey guys,

Two questions, I replaced my laptop screen a couple of months ago due to it burning out. I upgraded from a 1,680x945 res to a full HD 1920x1080, which caused a lot more hassle than I thought. The one thing I never got working was the brightness controls; after researching a bit, I think the problem is that the current BIOS doesn't recognise the screen. I was thinking of just downloading a BIOS from another AW series laptop that had the full HD screen, but apparently using a different BIOS version can brick your motherboard. Anyone upgraded their screen and done this or any ideas?

Second one is Windows 10, the windows update task bar icon says it won't work with my screen, assuming because the display driver isn't updated for windows 10. I've got the latest driver for the graphics card I've got (I think) any suggestions on this at all?

AW31M/H with the 9600M GT graphics card, running 341.74 version of the driver.

Hi all, it seems that my glorious AW11S has died this afternoon.
It was some time that the backlight was flickering, and this afternoon it gave up.
I had already the replacement for the inverter, so I removed the screen, removed the frame and plugged in the new inverter. Nothing too complicated, it seemed.
Then I tried to switch it on and the computer remained off. I tried with the battery, and nothing either.
I have checked all the cables coming to the screen and they seem fine, I have tried many times with and without the battery but nothing. I don't even see briefly the orange light when I plug it to the power supply -it seems completely dead.
I cannot understand the reason, I have just opened the screen... I have even tried to remove the new inverter, but no luck.
Do you have any idea on what I could try? I'm quite desperate right now, also because I think that there is no substitute as good as this laptop...

Hm, no one is still using these laptops?
Well, in any case, I made some further test and I discovered that the new inverter was preventing the laptop to switch on.
    - new inverter -> off
    - no inverter --> on
    - old inverter, no cables to lamp --> off
    - old inverter, connected --> on

So I have ordered another one with the same code of the original, in case that is the problem.
At this point, I don't know anymore if the reason why the screen remains off is the inverter or the lamps. If I have burned lamps (but my screen is a dual lamp, if one dies, the other one should remain on, I guess...), is it possible to change them?

Hi Rusty, I'd love to, but when I had to change my keyboard I just looked on ebay...
There are usually UK keyboards, what I did was to remove the different keys from mine and install them on the new one to have my layout.

Ok, I have installed a new inverter and the PC works again. There was evidently some problem in the other I bought.
