Does not sqeak here. But, it squeaks if I hope on the TT on the right side just where the optical drive is. I think support is minimal there, so I try not to hold that side.

A friend has exchanged his netbook because the fan was sometime a little noisy (I think the fan was not screwed well). The new one is not noisy, but shows 1 dead blue pixel
He said me : "I prefer the noise that the dead pixel". Unfortunately he cannot return the netbook again. And dead pixel is not a manufacturing fault for manufacturers

oh yeah, one more! im running windows 7, has anyone got the wireless/bluetooth switch program to work? i cant even find it on the sony webpage!
one more note before i forget, i know in the older T? the originals you needed the IBSU, IBU? IB something, the battery checker program to be running for the power saving functions to work correctly, ie turning off the cdrom, modem, lan, blah blah blah. thought this mite be an issue if anyone is running win7.
mine dosent squeak at the front either -
I'm very happy with my purchase. I had a hard time deciding between the TT & the Z initially... then I concluded that the only advantage the Z would offer me was the bigger screen (the CPU & GPU weren't real advantages for me, since pretty much all I run is Firefox & MS Office), & even then, I'd rather have 0.55 lbs less weight to carry around with me every day than a few extra pixels.
The weight differential is even greater if I factor in the lighter power adapter & the fact that I should be able to get by with a single battery charge of the TT's regular battery, in most circumstances, as opposed to possibly needing a spare battery (or extended battery) if I had a Z. -
Is there a TT with a 9400 clocked at 1.6GHz?
Thanks -
-
Thanks.
So 9400 at 1.4GHz is the max for the TT. -
-
it is weird but CPUZ shows my SU9400 as 1.6ghz on my TT. Also SU9600 comes out at 1.6Ghz... OC is out of the question for now with this H2O bios.
-
My TT has SU9300, yet, CPUZ show 1600 MHz.
-
so it is all BS
-
A question for the "clean install" folks out there - I did a clean Vista install on my TT190 using F10 and interrupting prior to bloat-ware install, but the front optical drive eject botton and the "S1" button don't do anything now. The mute and volume buttons work. Any thoughts on what I have not re-installed from the original set-up? I can eject the drive with the button on the side, it just makes me think there is something else I am missing.
-
Sounds like you need to install the Vaio ACPI drivers. I tried several times to get a proper 'clean install' with my TT and found that there were always a few little drivers that were missed or failed to install each time. In the end I ended up just letting it recover (minus bloatware on the recovery partition to give me extra space) and just uninstalled everything. I now have a grand total of 57 running processes, none of the crap I didnt want, over 100G free on my HDD and a boot up time of just over 40 seconds
Mind you there was a little bit of tweaking and playing around it wasnt just a matter of deleting - there is also a clean up. I am in the process of writing this up for my blog as there seems to be different results when trying a 'clean install' yet its just as easy to remove the bloat and get a very fast and clean little machine with very few minor tweaks. -
9 seconds to logon for XP SP3 here with RAID0 256GB SSD. Why even go with Vista
)))) battery life is also better than Vista. I have 109Mb of used memory and 0% cpu utilization on a clean XP install with all drivers/sony "NECESSARY utilities". Sure I've tweaked it a bit with all unnecessary services like webclient, help+support, etc but yet, same install with Vista would end up with 50-55 processes, 300-400MB of ram used and CPU spikes all the time to make up for all the eye candy...
-
Personally I don't see the need to keep running what is soon to be very much a 'legacy' OS
(meh, saw the same arguments when XP came out and people didn't see the need to change from Windows 98...
)
At the end of the day XP isnt for everyone anymore - some of use *shock horror*prefer Vista
- actually I prefer Windows 7, its just a shame it is only a beta version right now
(SSD was not an option for me - over $1000AUD extra for an SSD..not worth it for what I use my machine for)
About the only time I use XP now is on a PC at work as one of our apps requires WUBI to operate and the geeks cannot get it to work under Vista - the app in question though is nearly 10 years old though and UNIX based and doesnt play nice with Vista. Everything else I use is Vista. (Except the crappy mac based computer labs at Uni *shudder* - thank goodness the IT department has REAL PC's to use for prac and assignments lol) -
Hi there,
Have you updated the graphics drivers on your TT on Vista (32-bit) ?
I have uploaded the last drivers from Intel website. It works fine. but the light sensor doesnt workI have tried to enable/disable it in the Vaio control center, but the have no effect. In my opinion Sony has modified the Intel driver for TT ?
Any idea to get the light sensor work ?
Thank you. -
I have a minor problem with my TT yesterday, actually happened 2 times now. When I close the lid, it goes to sleep, which is my normal practice. But yesterday, after leaving it at sleep mode, and I found out his morning that it is on (the power light is green). I opened the lid, and it is asking for my bios password (my normal routine when power on). It should have been in sleep, but something has awakened it. The fan is at it high setting, after logon, the temp is at 72c, which went down to 50c after a few seconds.
So, what do you think has wakened it from sleep mode? Is it wireless? I am sure I have disabled remote power on or something like that. -
I had another laptop that was doing that, & it was Windows Home Server connector waking it up for a backup. I'd say check any maintenance-type / anti-virus / defrag / backup / anti-spyware software that you have, likely it's something wanting to wake it up for a regularly-scheduled task of some sort.
Apparently one of the new features in Windows 7 is a "don't wake up the laptop automatically no matter what" option.... -
LMAO!!!!
yeah but I love my eye candy(Ubuntu has better eye candy though!)
-
ya ya ya. there is nothing sexier than a woman bash-ing i.e. CLI
-
Just to let all know that Sony Japan's just posted a neww TT BIOS. I installed it, no pb, changelog indicates "improved stability" which can't be bad...

Thanks - FYI this BIOS update is dated 26 Jan, 2009.
Unrelated to this - has anyone had problems with the USB port on the VGN-TT190 not being capable of powering a USB SATA HDD adequately? Mine runs an old Fujitsu 60GB IDE USB HDD fine, but when I try a newer WD 320GB SATA HDD it senses it, and the power indicator on the drive is on, but the drive does not show up as available. I am running the TT on battery, BTW.
Edit: Nevermind - I am a knucklehead. Once I formatted the new drive, it shows up just fine. And I can report the USB powers the drive just fine even on battery! -
One of the changes : The BIOS screen (F2 at boot) is now displayed in full screen. -
This has also been up on the U.S. site for a few days already (well, since the 26th I guess):
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNTT190&SelectOS=29 -
Just updated my BIOS as well. But I downloaded from Canadian Sony eSupport site. It says it corrects my problem (in my earlier post) that it sometimes powers up by itself, when the lid was closed, and supposed to be in sleep mode. I am now happy about that.
BTW, BIOS screen says EC version XXXX... is still the last version. What is EC anyway? -
we were? gee and I missed it
lol
New BIOS sounds interesting though...actually just checked the Asia-Pacific support site (where my model is supported) and the last BIOS was the one out last December..meh... -
are you blonde?
the bios made no difference to me... I still want to see a tool to ize the H2O bioses
D4MN girl, was looking at your flickr,
you are a copy of me, since I can't be a copy of youI am unique.
I had the same freakin Lian-Li Case, Same 2405 Dell LCD, same 12" dell boatanchor hanging around.... you copy me! STOP IT STOP IT!
.... even your black cat looks like ours.... -
lol
-
-
Why does the Canadian Bios have a change to correct the sleep mode problem, if all bios are the same?
-
Maybe they ALL fix the sleep mode problem, & for whatever reason they only mentioned this on the Canadian site?
-
Just downloaded BIOS R1061M4 from US, CA and JAP sites and did byte to
byte check, they're identical. -
Hi All,
I know in Vaio TT with 4 GB of RAM and using 32 bit Vista (or in future 32 bit Win7) system can access only to about 3,2 GB of RAM but is it true rest of RAM (about 0,8 GB) still can be accessed for graphic card in Vaio TT?
If it is true it will be like 0,8 GB of RAM independent for graphic card.
Can anybody confirm it? -
Arek,
are you counting every bit of it?)
The 800megs is for addressing, devices, etc. you can't control it, at least not with that bios. -
So, is this 0,8 GB of RAM useless or is it used for graphic card or system?
Of course it will be cheaper to buy TT with regular disc but I am worried it will be very small improvement in performance over my TZ11. Another problem is I am worried about durability of SSD disc. Now TZ (in future TT or Z) is my main computer, so sending it to repair few times per year will be not nice. -
I will not go for a Z personally. It is not true that the improvement from TZ -> TT is small. TT is a true ultraportable in its sense. The Z ... is just another 13" laptop.
The 32bit system can address 4GB, it is not TT related or TZ related. Both the TT and the Z have this limitation when using 32bit system. In this 4GB you have the shadow memory, the device addressing, video memory, everything, so that's why you can see 3.2GB.
I have been having SSDs for the last 19 months and it is so far so good. The Samsungs in the Sonys are pretty decent. -
TT is pretty fast. I installed Garmin mapupdate (for my garmin gps) last night. Garmin instruction says it will take 2 hours, and some other users said it took as long as 4 hours. For my TT, it took 1 hour, 10 minutes to extract a 2 GB mapfile, and 50 minutes to load it into the gps via usb. I suspect it is the fast speed of the ddr3.
-
How easy is it to install additional memory on the TT. My TT currently has 2 gb of memory. I have found a website that sells an additional 2 gb of memory for a reasonable sum of money. How do you install it in the additional slot?
Also does anyone have any experience with the privacy screen filter for the TZ/TT? I was thinking about one more to protect the screen and keep it clean, but i have never seen one in person. -
depends on what configuration you got.
-
I've got the UK LN/B model, that comes with 2x1 GB DDR3. The two models above this one come with 2x2 GB DDR2 for some reason, not DDR3. But having done some research it doesn't seem worth while bothering with putting in another 2 GB, as i would have to buy 2x2 GB DDR3 cards to replace the 2x1 GB ones, or just remove 1 of the 1 GB cards and than have 3 GB DDR3 and the operating system won't recognise over 3 GB, so it doesn't really seem worth while. Plus there is the issue that it might affect the warrenty as they wouldn't be sony parts, etc. Sony charge 139.99 UKP per 2 GB DDR3.
I am still interested in the privacy filter, but not having seen one, as none of the Sony Centres carry them, i don't know if it is any good for protecting the screen from damage and dirt, marks, etc. I am not actually interested in the privacy element of the filter. -
Ian: there is a little door on the back side with one screw. If you open it you will see a ram card in there. Push it down with a little force, and it will pop up and you can remove it and plug a 2 GB card in. I doubt if it will affect warranty, but to be sure, you can always email them to confirm.
You should also ask them if you need to replace the one inside which is a lot more complicated to open it up. -
If i understood it correctly, the ram card slots are in two different places? If that is the case and the second one is quite hard to access, than it would seem most logical to just replace one of the 1 GB cards with a 2 GB card, giving a total memory of 3 GB DDR3.
-
As reported, there is an easily accessible RAM slot behind the "trap door" under the TT. The second slot requires disassembly of the unit, which can be a little tricky (there are posts/pics about this in the thread) but I was successful without breaking anything or suffering any bodily harm.
If you are not ready for taking out a bunch of tiny screws and then replacing them, just go for the simple 1 -> 2gb upgrade in the bottom slot. -
Hi guys,
I have been a long Sony fan all of my life and I have tried two Vaio laptops one of which I am typing this on which is my wife's. I have switched to Macs and I was disappointed when I decided to buy a MacBook Air in addition to my iMac. The MacBook Air suffers from many issues where some of them are very simple and easy tasks to run.
For example, this video keeps stuttering on the MacBook Air to the point that you cannot even hear an entire word from the actors.
I have been lately interesting in purchasing the TT but I have been waiting for a refresh which should come sometime this month according to what I have heard. Everything is perfect for me on the TT besides the processor which I feel is a bit underpowered.
I would appreciate it if you can tell me how good this video runs on your TT:
http://www.hulu.com/hd/stand_alone/48731?lcname=SitePlayer_lcname_mc_3839_711#0
Any stutter?
Kind regards and thanks for supporting my first post on these forums -
I picked up a TT earlier today (TT190). I just ran your video full screen, in both Internet Exploder and Google Chrome (I'm running Win7), and it was mostly smooth. There was a tad bit of stutter that was barely noticeable, but that was only during scenes where there was a lot of fast moving action (e.g., parts of the chase scene).
Hope that helps! -
since you have 2x1, you have to take the whole s&it apart to make it 4GB, although if you run win32, you can swap just the bottom 1Gb with 2Gb, it will still be dual channel.
-
Do you have another example ?
By the way, my TT plays 720p and 1080p video smoothly with MPC Homecinema or XMBC video players. -
plays fine on my rig.
I can play even the MTS stream sh&t from my Canon Vixia HF11 which is 24mbps highly compressed 1080p/60 video i.e. 30 frames progressive, although shot at 17Mbps -
Yeah I cant even get Hulu through a proxy properly - but I play other HD stuff just fine
-
could i ask someone for a fava pls :]
im running windows 7 and i would like to get the wireless switch until working, you know the app that can switch on and off the bluetooth and wifi. also the battery checker util too if its not too much of a hassle. a zip of the dirs would be fine, they should all be in the sony dir.
i have tried looking for the util on the sony website, but the slackers dont provide it... ??? dont know why. i have the restore cds but i can pull it from them unless i do a full restore :[ tried vmware too, the cds dun work.
is anyone else running win 7 and has these working fine? i cant get my auto brightness thing to work.
