g210m iss the notebook's gpu.. BB is for best buy, and their models only had the g210m, not the gt230m so i was wondering if it could handle all of my media needs.. so, can it do the job? cheers!

I've been following this thread for a while and I'm happy to say that my CW just arrived! Ordered 11/26 dropped off today 12/7 (one day ahead of fedex scheduling

Battery management/prediction systems and software on systems like these are notoriously inaccurate. There are many variables that go into that particular calculation, and most don't bother to try to use even a reasonable percentage of them. You're lucky if you have one that includes the current drain your machine is drawing, such as heavy graphics or drive usage.

That said, you might check to see if there is a difference reported, say, from sitting idle compared to playing a movie.

The other thing you have to do before actually "testing" how long your battery holds up is to "condition" it. You need to run a few full charge-discharge cycles in order to get the maximum charge-life out of them. This is typical of Li-Ion batteries. You may also want to redo this from time to time if you mostly run the laptop using the power adapter and never let it run down, just so you'll get the maximum time when you do need it.

At least you don't have the "memory" problem you used to see all the time with the NiCd batteries. Those required you to frequently run the battery all the way down before recharging or else it would only let a limited amount of energy back out. The battery would "remember" how much energy you wanted before you recharged it, and only give you back that much before dying.

Pretty exciting, I ordered my Indigo CW on 11/26 as well and it is schedule to be delivered tomorrow, maybe I'll get mine today...the only thing is I might not be home when they attempt delivery...for yours was a Signature Required for the package?

I just got onto a online chat with the sony style customer service agent...and asked my order information...And he says that he cannot provide that info and that i'll have to call...!!! but i remember i spoke to another agent online and he gave me an order status...!!! guess this guy was just pissed off answering all our order status queries...!!!

My Vaio was shipped from SonyStyle on 12/5 sometime before 1 PM EST... I STILL can't track my order! What is going on??

If I may jump in with a technical question...

Aside from when I might actually receive this computer, I am in a bit of a dilemma of who to order from since Sony no longer offers some of the options on the CW due to running out of parts.

Specifically, the blu-ray reader and g230m are no longer available unless you buy the limited edition blue computer, you can get a g230m. I was kinda shooting for a pink computer so that is out.

Some retail sites still have computers with both blu ray and g230m, but they only offer the t6600 processor.

My desired configuration is P8700, 6gb ram, g230m, at least 320 gb hard drive, and a poppy pink color. blu-ray is a nice to have but not necessary. Poppy pink is non-negotiable unfortunately. That being said. Which available configuration would you guys think is better for someone who works with large pictures on occasion and needs fast daily multi-tasking capability.

or

p8700 with 1000 front side bus
6gb ram
g210m

basically how important is the gpu vs ram&processor

yup, signature was required. The FedEx guy was just about to stick one of those "we were here, but you weren't so you're not going to get your new electronic gadget today" sticker on my door. During the checkout process on the Sony site it mentioned that signature was required. I work from home so it's no biggie.

Question: This will show how much of a noob I am, but I have no idea how to create a recovery disc. I've been searching, but can seem to find anything that helps or that is specific to the CW. Help!

 

In response to a call I made to the support center when I started reading about the canceled orders I just got and email from Sony saying,

"Due to the large number of requests for the [Model Number: US-VPCCW190X-LBOM VPCCW190X Configure-to-Order ], your estimated ship date has been delayed. I apologize for this inconvenience. I expect the product to arrive estimated on [12/15/2009], and your order will ship shortly thereafter."

I assume 12/15 is when it might go into production so it could ship maybe by the 12/18 or 19. So it would probably be after Christmas before I get it, which is ok. I'm not in a hurry for it.
At least it looks like the order is not going to be canceled which is what I was worried about. I have already bought a case for it. I ordered it on 11/27 at 9:30 pm and the estimated ship date was 12/29.

Im planning on buying Sony Vaio CW. my question is is there any way or place in US to buy it icy white color with NVIDIA® GeForce® GT230M GPU (512MB VRAM) and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz) and sure with bluray player.

BB sell it but with different processor and graphic card. and sonystyle only offer these options with Royal Indigo and didnt see anything about bluray player.

Hi Tato. Im in the same boat as you. I found the answer at www.jr.com . They had exactly what you are asking minus blu-ray. (it might have a blu ray reader, their description says dvd but it says blu-ray reader in specs.) Good luck.

Can never get the customer support chat thing to pop up when I want it to...

My order placed 11/27 still shows 11/30 as the ship date. I need to talk to them to see if their records show anything different for the ship date.

My fiances CW ordered right after mine will be here Wednesday. I won't be home for delivery, but I should be able to go pick it up from FedEx right after work. I'll try to take some pictures and play with it before she gets home from work. Unfortunately I have a test to take that night for school so that will cut into my laptop playing time!

Now that I think about it...we are supposed to have a big snow storm Tuesday night through Wednesday...maybe school will be canceled and my test will have to be rescheduled. I may even get to leave work early or even stay home and be there for delivery! Driving 45 miles to work in a snow storm might be a bad idea. lol.

Hey, I tried to customize CW in SonyStyle. It seems that Sony has got new stocks. It always gave me certain est shipping date instead of uncertain date when I changed the selection of cw's color on the web.

 

yeah i understand hopefully, i can find someone else to buy it for me who doesnt really need win7 ulti upgrade , hard to find but ill find something, dont mind paying a bit extra either? since $20 dollars converts to £12 and if i pay £20 that equals out to $33 ahh well, 1st i need a laptop that can be upgraded to win7 so lets see how it goes

Well, I was wrong. It actually stopped at Perrysburg, Ohio, just south of Toledo, so it has a straight shot up I-75 for about 2-hours to get to the local distribution center here, having left at 7 PM. I probably shouldn't sleep in tomorrow morning.

 

hey i jsut got a new cw16 (refer to signature) and i been getting some sound crackling any ideas what this is? once i was playing a wma and it starting crackling and the sound like slowed down and comp froze...gg...

i tried searching "sound" in this thread but nothing turned up... hope this isnt a known problem

 

I'm going to wait until the 24th to get anything. The coupon they sent to all they people who got their orders canceled expires on that day. Hopefully by then they have the parts back in stock. I want the P8700 and the GT230 and no one sells that other then Sony Style. The jet black one that is.

First of all, I just want to thank everyone on the thread. I've been following along from the beginning, and this forum helped me decide to purchase a CW.

Here's my question: Like many of you, I ordered my CW from Sony Style on Thanksgiving, and it was shipped on December 2nd. All along, my estimated delivery date has been December 8th (which means I should be getting it tomorrow!) The only thing is, Fedex hasn't updated by shipment history since early December 3rd when it left San Diego. I've been checking everyday (okay, about 20 times a day) to see if there are any further updates, but so far nothing. For those of you who received your CWs in the past couple of days, did this happen to you? Did you see any updates from Fedex as to what cities your computer was stopping in, or did it just show up at your door without any further updates?

I'm all the way in New Jersey, so I really hope that it hasn't been stalled in California this whole time!

 

ahh you guys r so lucky! i talked to customer support again and said that i get mine on 12/15. cant wait...

 

My FedEx track was only updated this afternoon when it reached Perrysburg, OH, and would have had to change trucks to head north into Michigan. If Your CW is on a truck that goes all the way to New Jersey without transfers, it wouldn't have been scanned again yet, probably not until LATE Monday night or Tuesday morning.
