Mines a 230m and 1080p runs fine, 210m should be pretty much the same so long as your not wanting to game at 1080p.

Wish I had known about the student savings, would have saved me like $70. I need to contact them and see if I can get the student discount, and even ask about a military discount.

Edit #2 for Sir Dudley: I used to think it mattered getting + or -, but lately I think I just order whatever is cheapest. Think I have + at home, and we also have + here at the office (tech room of an IT department). Probably can't go wrong either way though.

If I remember correctly the button is before you sign in or right after you sign in or something. You don't have to wait for it haha.

I don't think it really matters which you use. I don't think there is one correct choice, since everything is compatible with both these days. But when all else fails, search Wikipedia for an answer!

So with that said, I would go with the DVD+R.

Well now I can't even go to my order information without getting a '500 Internal Server Error.'

EDIT: Never mind...online customer support isn't good for anything but product info. They couldn't even check the status of my order. I'll have to call later when I have time. Maybe on my way home from work. Online chat is just so easy when I'm sitting at work already on the computer!

 

I just check Sony's support web site and noticed that they have released a new driver for the video card. It claims to fix the following issues. See the second item on the list. Not sure why the video card would create the problem but it's worth a shot. Also, you may want to go to Realtek's web site (the manufacturer of the on-board sound chip) and download the latest driver for it.

1. The blue screen error "0x3B" may occur after resuming from Standby mode with an HDMI™ connection and using the 1280x720 screen resolution

2. Distortion or noise may occur when playing an MP3, WAVE, or WMA audio file

3. No sound during playback from an HDMI device when the sampling rate for the HDMI output is set to 44.1kHz and 16bit or 24bit

hi everyone.. i was just wondering about the RAM of the cw.. is it really PC2-6400 or PC3-8500? the one from best buy says it's PC2-6400 (where i bought it) while sonystyle says it's PC3-8500.. i would just want to know in case i'll be needing an upgrade.. thanks!

btw, I'm kidding, you gots DDR3-SDRAM-1066 but since it's the BB version you have a different wireless card(Astheos) but other than that.

People say it doesn't work well with newer routers or something, or speed or something. Not a big deal since you can't really pick and choose at BB.

and Supergirlno1, sounds like you're going to need SonyStyle.Ca or wait out SonyStyle.com , since you want 500gb but you can always change the harddrive and same with the CPU.

Edit: Color... from the 1st post of this thread: It's purple! The colors on the Sony website are misleading. The Indigo that looks bluish online is definitely a solid purple. The red is brighter than the darker, richer red that it appears online. I guess the pink is close, I didn't pay much attention to it, and the black is pretty much as it appears online. The white is surprisingly nicer than I expected. It's a pearlescent white, similar to what you see on higher end cars.

They all have a glossy finish. I noticed the red, purple, and black showed every fingerprint and smudge, which I didn't like.

Also pretty sure you can find real pictures online. I'm for sure I've seen the purple one online somewhere.

 

oh i guess i could live with that.. since my router doesn't support the N stuff.. and i have no plans of upgrading since my internet connection isn't that quick in the first place.. thanks! i really appreciate your answers.. and i guess i'll be back here for more questions in some time.. cheers

Also I'm pretty sure for people who are still looking for a CW with a gt230. Just look around and price match, it's the only way to get a killer deal but I guess 899.99 isn't bad. but they are selling out.

 

My fiance's Royal Indigo CW will be coming tomorrow. I plan on taking pictures and posting them online here. I myself couldn't find any pictures taken from a normal person to see what the color actually looked like.

 

What are people's opinions on the vaio Written on the back of the lid of the CW. Though its a moot point, one thing which i didnt like abt the CW is that it is in not the usual engraved type we see with the otehr vaio like the NW and the SR. I always thought that engraved vaio in chrome looked cool and gave sony laptops a kind of killer look specially on the Black model. Here in the CW its behind a transparent screen which does not stand out that much...

Any comments?

yes please post pics up:d, i was hoping we could atleast get a pack of pics for each colour so everyone can get real-life pics of each colour so we know how each of them look, sometimes when we go instores, due to the lighiting in the stores it appears a different colour and when we go home its a totally diff colour due the the lighting at home so if possible those haave black, pink, red, white, and indigo we would loveeee to see pictures, and if possible pleaseeee in diff types of lighting situations, say daytime, night time, if you have diff lights around the house say from bedrooms vs kitchen then that too and it would be awesome if it could be done outside too, but probs be snowing in alot of states right now , but anything is welcome then ill add on the pics linking to the 1st post of the thread so its easier for new comers ,

 

I have 2 co-workers that also ordered on the black Friday cyber monday time frame. And they both ordered pretty much what I did. They both got the email last night. Sorry your order has been canceled due to a supply shortage. They were not too happy. Sony sure screwed themselves. They could have made a lot of money if they had the supply to meet the demand. But I guess that is pretty common right now...

Sure I'll try to do that. Our kitchen has different lights than the living room. And maybe next weekend when I'll finally be home while it's light out, I can take some with the blinds open for sunlight. My camera is starting to suck but I'm sure it will do

 

Here is a question that isn't related to availability. Is it possible to run two external monitors at the same time with the CW? I know I can use the laptop monitor and add 1 external for a 2 monitor setup, but I was hoping to use my 2 20" monitors and leave the CW monitor off. If so, what is the easiest way to set it up?

I havent worked on Windows 7 yet...! but in Vista/XP in graphic options you can choose the primary and secondary displays...! in your case i guess both your primary and secondary will be external...! you can connect one via HDMI and one VIA VGA or USB or something...! - i think this might work...!

 

I know there are DVI to HDMI adapters, so maybe you can get a HDMI to DVI adapter to connect a 2nd monitor. As long as you can physically connect the 2 monitors, you should have no problem using them for your displays.

EDIT: Actually I have a DVI to HDMI cable myself that would allow me to hook a HDTV up to a graphics card with a DVI port. I don't see why it wouldn't work if you just switch it around. NewEgg.com has a lot of those cables. Just have to search 'HDMI to DVI'

Well crap...Just called customer support. They can't update my price to save me money with the student discount. They also said that parts for my order are out of stock and will be in on 12/29. That is the same ship date that I got when I had placed the order. But right now it's showing 11/30. So looks like if they have any more great deals like Thanksgiving weekend before my computer is being built, I'll cancel the order and re-order with the student discount to save some money.

 

Why don't you reorder and use the student discount and the 100 dollars off of any Sony Vaio? Isn't that instant savings?

I ordered the signature series, "ready to ship" on 5 Dec and today it got a ship update of 9 Dec. It has slipped once now. Anyone had any cancellations of ready to ship items?

I'm planning to order this laptop but the online site says "No longer available for purchase at Sony Style."

Any reasons for this ? Usually how many days will they take to ship this customised laptop ? Please fill me in with some inputs . Is it possible to order at any SONY Outlets. My brother may return from US by jan 10th. So i need to know if i ll be able to get this laptop if i order in a week or so?

Ya I never got that e-mail. They didn't cancel my order, they are just delaying it. Just wish you could order the laptops with upgraded components from places like NewEgg.com...I just find the same configuration everywhere.

I just got my laptop yesterday. Its one baller machine!!! Love everything about it.
My specs:
2.53ghz,4ram, gt230,320gb hd, blu-ray reader, windows 7 home, no fresh start

I only have one problem thus far. When I hit the "WEB" button when the computer is off it does not load a web browser, but tells me splashtop is not installed and I need to finish the install. Then starts to load windows. How to I fix this problem? I tired googling it but nothing really came up.

 

FedEx just delivered my new Indigo CW 30 minutes ago!!!! WOW, the Purple Color is GORGEOUS!! Don't tell my wife, but I think I have a second love!! I haven't even had a chance to turn it on yet, but I'll post some more thoughts/opinions about it and some pics in the next few days.
