I don't blame the phone/email/online representatives either. I am sure they are all hard working people who are only following orders. If blame should be placed, it should be placed on the system that they have set up. But certainly no blame should be placed on the individuals who ordered their laptops, had the orders canceled, delayed, and are further unclear with what is going on.

I'm pretty sure they know what's going on but dislike that zillions of people keep asking them what's going on and it's probably the same 5 people. lol

Cause they knew where my order was, where it was in line, and if I was going to get it. Since they canceled it right away. Seems like some Reps are just playing dumb to some people while others are normal lol

but yeah agreed SonyStyle.com itself needs to improve as a website and a lil business but meh, they must be doing good if they sold out all those CW's and these babies just came out in Oct.

I'm kinda excited to see the new CW's whenever they came out next year.

Haha, I could just imagine a similar scenario happening at one of the support centers.

    Somewhere in the Eastern Hemisphere...

Victoria sees a familiar incoming number on hold; 1-734-434-6852

She gasps and drops her pen in the process, realizing who it is.

Amir, sitting next to her, turns to her to ask her what's wrong.

Victoria: It's... It's Mr. Jones from Minnesota.

Amir: What? No.... It' can't be.

    Victoria:
Yes, yes Amir! Look at the number! I have it memorized! 434..6852... it's... it's burned into my skull....

    Amir:
What is wrong with him? This is the 12th time Mr. Jones is calling to ask about his CW in 3 days. Hasn't he realized by now that we only have a phone staff of 4 people?

Victoria: (Sobbing) I can't take this anymore Amir! How can I tell him that I just have absolutely no idea about the shipping status of his CW? What I see on my monitor is all I know! And any additional information besides that then I really don't know!

Amir: (Putting his hand on Victoria's shoulder) I'll take this one... Hello, can I please get your order number?

yeah me too... except by the time I get my CW, the new ones will probably be out haha... i just hope that if they are serious about a new model for the CW that it doesn't completely outshine the old model, because after this long wait, i might be a little sad to not get the new model.

I don't think a new version of the CW will come out for another year. These just came out on the 22nd of October, and they pretty much significantly replace the CR in terms of features and style. I think if a new model is due, it will probably be for the BZ series (which still only comes with Vista) and perhaps the NW series.

That's probably right on the money, I agree the CW is a little too new to already even update.

vaioforme yeah I guarantee it was like that at the call center the first week of Black Friday lol. Well done mock too, made me laugh pretty hard after smoking.

edit: that is a great picture of pink with the cat, but wow the color on the palmrest is amazing, i could get use to that, i hope the black is like that too (which i know it is lol)

hey, am I correct in saying that the finger-print scan only comes with the professional/business version? If so, how is it? And also, is it something that is important? What steps can I put in place to make my CW experience safer, if that's even necessary.

I dont think anyone has a fingerprint sensor in their CW's.

I have yet to see a model with the fingerprint sensor, it isnt even available with CTO. I have seen it in the manual but yet to see it anywhere else (i could be wrong though) :p

I would have liked a fingerprint sensor, one swish of a finger vs typing my 8 letter password :D would be coooooool

rofl you can always buy an external fingerprint scanner, or find an optical one muahaha,

Also I think they are pretty weak because my bro had it on his PDA and his laptop and he said used it about twice and yeah. I think I'd feel the same way. Pretty sure it wouldn't help if someone just stole my laptop instead of Oh, it has a fingerprint scanner, I can't steal this, how am I going to use it. You don't steal to use it, you steal to sell it.

***Pretty sure most people would have an eye on their laptop if it was somewhere it might be taken by accident. YOU KNOW, but only reason for a fingerprint scanner is somehow you work in an office and you have sensitive data and want to feel safe about it and instead of having a super long password with Ups and downs and numbers and zig zags.

AGREED! :D i would probably never use it anyway but i still think it's a cool feature... i think it's more for people not wanting someone to look what's stored on their computer, rather then stealing it tho... but hey anything goes.

I'm sorry i stand corrected, fingerprint sensors are available... in the US anyway... why wouldnt they offer this on sony's consumer website, why only the business one?

im not sure i'd want one; i dont like where its positioned - between the mouse buttons? you lose out on valuable clicking space :D i liked where my m1330 had it, in the right corner on the palm rest. out of the way

I cant say i ever used the one on my m1330 like. i dont think they're all that useful, not for consumers anyway. Suppose it is if you're a traveller or you store alot of confidential information or something. I dont like the thought of people using my finger while i'm asleep. At least with a password, it's in my head :D

If you are to travel alot then it would probably be a good investment, because if it gets lost then at least no one can access your computer :D

Again, the UK gets screwed over by sony. why cant the same stuff be offered everywhere...

thank you, I am not familiar with the finger scan so at the time it seemed like a good idea. But, with the points that you and Sir Dudley made, I am in agreement with you guys. I am not interested in the finger scan anymore, seems pointless and in the way :D

Just think, you wont have "ctrl" keyboard-sized touchpad buttons if you get a cw without the fingerprint sensor ;)

I am sick of bloody waiting on my CW... it seems as if it took a month to build (3 weeks really :p), a week in logistics and who knows how long it'll take to deliver... i may have to stay off 6th form in the morning just so i can get it :D

I will post some pictures and crap when i get mine. ive noticed that the internet lacks detailed reviews and good pictures of the CW

BTW doesn't the dell studio 15 have some sort of recognition software using the web camera? not sure if it's optical (it's probably not...) but that would be coooool on the CW ;)

Graphics Driver Update...wanted to tell you all about a new Nvidia Graphics driver that was posted to Sony's website on 12/2/2009(I accessed it thru "Vaio Update") . It specifically addresses an issue I was having with the sound making a crackling noise when watching Youtube videos. After installing this new driver, the sound problem went away. They actually mention this exact sound issue in the list of problems that the driver resolves:

    Description posted on Sony:

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 230M / G210M / 9600M GT Video Driver Update
    Filename: NVDVID-00212039-1042.EXE
    Version: 8.16.11.8783
    Last Modified: 12/02/2009
    Size: 94.38 MB

This utility installs an updated version of the NVIDIA GeForce video drivers to resolve the following issues:

•The blue screen error "0x3B" may occur after resuming from Standby mode with an HDMI™ connection and using the 1280x720 screen resolution
•Distortion or noise may occur when playing an MP3, WAVE, or WMA audio file
•No sound during playback from an HDMI device when the sampling rate for the HDMI output is set to 44.1kHz and 16bit or 24bit

    Hi,

    Some audio questions:

1/ What is the audio chip and driver used in CW ? Is it Realtek ?

2/ I think mine is Realtek but can't find any Realtek utilities to test/set some audio parameters. All I can do is use the classical Windows audio interface. Does such Realtek utility software exist at all in the CW ?

I ask this question because I did a semi-clean install and it is possible that the utility (if it exists) isn't reinstalled. Thanks to CW owners not having done any reinstall to tell me if any sound utility exists in their system as delivered.

3/ Did anyone tested "SRS audio sandbox" in CW ? which version ? the 32bits version doesn't even install.

    thanks

Thanks very much scottybgood for this info.

Did you install all the drivers available in the sony support site or just this one ? what is your strategy: installing them all or as needed ?

I lost "VAIO update 4" utility after a semin-clean install and can't find it anywhere else (even not in sony site). I suppose I can manually install one by one the drivers in sony site ?

    thanks again

    Me again

Just checked on the european support site:
    http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/preinstalled/index.aspx?l=FR_CH&m=VPCCW1

There isn't any update for NVIDIA driver although the original driver is there:
    94.5 Mb 04/11/2009

dated november 2009 (don't have any version number cause I didn't download it) which seems newer than yours.

What are we supposed to think:
    - different drivers/cards for different countries ?!
    - install the newest without risk ?

Could you please provide the link where you got that driver or is it done automatically by VAIO update program ?

Wow 10+ pages since I logged in yesterday. Some dedicated CW lovers we have here lol.

Anyways, I'll chip in to see if anyone can find a pattern behind the mysterious delays.

Ordered Icy White + 230M on the 27th around 8:30AM. Original Ship date: 12/15/09. Called customer service to see what's up and they told me order is still on track with a part coming in on the 9th. The rep apologized to me for the wait and then bumped me up for faster shipping (2 day shipping option) for free. Checked with the customer rep again a few days later and he told me the same thing.

Hopefully I get it by the 17th like they said but who knows what will happen.

yeah, mine had the crackling sound, its stopped since i installed the video update, which is all good nw.

btw to any ppl who are getting their cw soon, update ur synaptics driver from the synaptics site, the stock sony driver doesnt do two finger scroll. the newer driver also makes it kinda like a mac trackpad ^^

and also what does everyone think about the 64bit version of windows, i must admit it kinda surprised me a little... i would have thought a "fashion concious" laptop for consumers would just have 32bit...

Here is a direct link to the Driver, for those of you who need it...hopefully it works for you...If it doesn't, try going to esupport.sony.com and then use the CW Model #: VPCCW19GX (that is what it autodetects my CW as) then click the Drivers and Software link and scroll down to "Video".

What I would say in general is, "if it's not broke don't try to fix it". What I would recommend is that you read the description next to each driver download listed, noting what issues the driver addresses, if it doesn't sound like something you need, or you are not experiencing those issues listed, then it might be better to not install the update. And exception might be if it is related to a security vunerability. If you didn't already know this, if you go into the CW's Device Manager, then right click on one of the devices listed and go to properties, then click the Drivers tab. Here you can see the date and version of the driver you currently have installed for that device, as compared to what is available on Sony. More than anything else, I'd say use more caution when installing Bios Updates, as they are difficult, if not impossible to reverse, if it ends up causing a problem.

See my other post about how to get to the Sony's Driver download without the Vaio Update utility.

Your probably in the same situation as me. The estimated ship date is probably what was in your checkout. You could call them and ask them what it is.

So yesterday they tried to deliver my fiance's CW. They came about 45 minutes before she got home from work. They didn't leave a time or place that we could pick it up from. Today thankfully there was a blizzard outside and I called in so I wouldn't have to drive 45 miles to work. So when it comes today, I'll be here! (unless he comes in the few minutes I'm taking my fiance to work, then I'll be pissed!)

I finally went to Future Shop to pick up my CW (VPCCW13FDP). With the purchase of a 3-year FS warranty, they dropped the price of the lappy to $849 (from $899), and gave me a set of JBL Duet speakers for free (worth $60). Not a bad deal overall, though not a steal by any means.

I was debating between the red and the white, and settled on white more for the lack of visible fingerprints than color preference. It really is a nice white-- the shiny parts (cover and palm rests) are sort of pearlescent in color and tone, the keys crisp white. I have included some pics to give you an idea though the lighting is not optimal (Icy White with a snowstorm backdrop, hehe). Good luck with getting your CTOs soonest!

Hey scottybgood, Thanks again for that JR.com link awhile ago and informing that it was no tax, saved my butt with that and don't think I got to thank ya personally.

I also thank SonyStyle for canceling my order pretty quickly but faster would of been better. Still don't get why people don't like the VPCCW18FX much lol but I guess that was good for me. 799.99 total is a steal to me instead of waiting.

Isn't Sony getting a few more gt230's someone said by like the 25th? Esp for the orders of the Purple. Also I would order on the phone with SonyStyle.com instead of online since I think they seem to be able to add Blu-ray and they get to the system faster than online.
