I did it few days ago and then did a clean install without installing it again.

As far as I remember, you go in the Gate and there you find a button to disable it instantly but before go to the options (also somewhere in the Gate) and prevent it to start automatically with windows startup.

Did you find a way to see how fast the fan is spinning and whether it is regulated or not by the load ?

My CW will be here in a matter of hours!! I'm so excited!

One quick question, can the gt230m handle Crysis at low settings? I don't want to kill my GPU on the first day...

The mouse track does not need to be updated because Sony has not issued a new updated since the original, To get the two finger thing going or the flicks, you have to open up the program for the mouse and enable it and it will flick and everything, Enjoy.

Also please, what were the programs that were setup with the computer originally and were in the bottom left hand corner? Thanks

guys be careful if u all are updating to the new nvidia driver. mother ing driver doesnt provide 1360x768 resolution so to people who uses this resolution... better not update.

At the risk of sounding stupid on my very first post - how do you do a fresh start? Is it an option on the first boot-up into windows?

    Will that remove all bloatware?

    chucky_1234:
You can use Dual Layer DVDs. For me it only took 2 regular DVDs, or it said it would only take 1 DL-DVD.

    Sir_Dudley:
Windows Media Player the missing one you are trying to think of? I wouldn't be able to look at the computer as I already 'un-pinned' all but Firefox and WMP.

    Chavez82:
Fresh Start is an option you choose when you configure your computer before you order it. So if you already ordered it, it's too late. Or if you ordered a pre-configured computer, it will probably include bloatware.

    THANK YOU LOGAN,
I hate the feeling like I'm missing something but I think I got it, so the only cool button down there thats rare is the VAIO one right? lol Thanks again.
I was like ahhhh was in the bottom but I think I only took out wmp and IE to replace with firefox.

Other than making everything smaller on the screen, whats the big deal with the 768 res compared to 1080 or 1200? Some seem to be complaining about this, but most people can't tell the difference between the two on a 37" TV, how can you tell on a 14" laptop screen? Maybe I am missing something here, but Blu-ray looks pretty much identical on my 720 42" plasma as it does on my 1080p 37" LCD.

I just bought a red one from Best Buy. It's a nice solid unit.

One thing I hate, though, is that four important keys require FN combinations:

Page up, Page Down, Home, and End.

It's not like they don't have room for it.....why didn't they make these separate keys?

Hmmmm - didnt see that option on the Uk Sony Style site (although didnt end up ordering from there in the end!).

Bit worried about so much space/processing power being lost without me having installed a thing

Actually yes, it can play Crysis. Stick with a resolution of 1024x768 on low-medium details and the game will run fairly fluently from beginning to the end.

    Hi,

I've just got a shipping confirmation. Do you know how long it takes to get to Michigan? I saw that somebody here was also in Michigan.

I tried to put my tracking number on FedEx website. It did not work T_T

    Thank you

I took the notebook to the reseller where I bought it. I´ve tried to shown them the problem, and they couldnt even see it. It´s very mild, but I know it´s there, like a kind of a small flickering.
I compared with another CW at another shop, and didnt noticed any flickering. I just dont know how I can prove to the reseller shop that there´s a problem, if they say they cant see it. :(

Hello guys..do anyone who have the CW face a problem on the battery drian. It seems to a prominent problem wih Vaio Laptop.
On complete shutdowm, the battery drians 8 to 12% per day.
When i disconnected my battery after shutdown, the battery retains its charge over the next day.
So something on the MB is sucking up power from the battery.
Do you have nay idea how to fix this issue. I would hate to disconnect my battery every time is shutdowm?
EDIT: I read on some forum that even on shutdown the Bluetooth module stays on which drains the power. I dont think this could be an issue because my friend who owns an NW (no inbuilt bluetooth) also faces the same issue.

So far: I have explorer, vaio laptop icon, IE, google chrome...... I thought there was more.? Sorry if I sound repetitive but i just need to know. Also if someone can take a pic when they press the start button or can tell me wats in there. thanks. **** im interested in where and what vaio put in

Other than this lil thing, I love this laptop, 720 HD, fast, sweet keyboard, awesome mouse

I created the Recovery Disks a couple of days ago and didn't see any options, just all or nothing. But I think you have several options when doing an actual recovery:
How to perform a system recovery using Recovery Discs.

Do you mean 1366x768 resolution ? I updated to the newest nvidia driver from sony esupport, and I can still choose 1366x768 resolution.

You could try creating a new user account. Login with that and it should have all the same icons pinned and everything. Not really sure why you are worried about this though.

Anyways good news for me! Laptop went into production today. Maybe I'll have it by next weekend. I should have upgraded the shipping...it takes too long! Maybe I'll be lucky and it can come on Thursday, since my fiance has Thursdays off. Otherwise I won't be home to get it. :( Should have had it shipped to work.

The effect of battery drain isn't as bad as it looks - at least, on CW.

Say, assume that my CW battery is once charged to full. I boot up CW on battery, and it shows 92% thanks to battery drain. Then, as I use it, it stays at 92% for lot longer than it should (say, 20 minutes or more). In this case, the issue is as much as unreliable ACPI reading as battery drain.

I remembered you mentioned about not having the "Vaio Update" utility anymore since doing the Clean install, well I found it on Sony's Site just in case you still might need it:

Chill Dude. I dont have the laptop in front of me now. But this is what i can guide you to: The option to create the recovery disc is in either in Vaio Care (the vaio icon that you see on the task bar) or in the vaio control centre (its found in the start menu). I think i mentioed the vaio control centre before so if u didnt find it there, it should be in the vaio care.

I'll post again after couple of hours when i reach home with a step to step guide if no one else posts it till then.

So till then, relax and Enjoy your new Machine :D

Glad to be of service. Keep following this thread. Many a times you'll get lots of tips and really cool info which may seem small but are quite relevant.

Just one additional point. Update all the drivers to the latest version before you make the recovery disc.

    Enjoy...

Thanks to everyone in this thread - it's been a great help in choosing the CW.

I ordered my CW around 10 PM CST on Black Friday from SonyStyle. The estimated ship date when I ordered was 12/08. The website updated soon after to an estimated ship date of 12/22.

I called SonyStyle yesterday morning. The rep indicated it could possibly ship earlier but could not guarantee it. She said she would email the research guys and then email me back within 24 hours. At 2:00 PM (same day) I received an Order update that production had begun with estimated ship date still 12/22. The website also reflected this, however the estimated shipping date on the website was now 12/01. Had to laugh.

Received a shipping confirmation at 10:30 this morning. Looking forward to it sometime next week.

Best of luck to all of those who are still waiting, may your (positive) updates arrive soon! :)

Just got the shipping e-mail :) 6 hours after the production e-mail. Should arrive next Wednesday or Thursday. Too bad nobody will be home Wednesday and maybe not on Thursday either..and not Friday...oh no! Need to hire somebody to stay at my apartment on the day it's gonna be here!

I took some pictures today. My camera isn't the best. Took some in normal light, some in flourescent light in our kitchen. It looks more purple than the pictures show. I may take more tomorrow when I can have sunlight, see if it looks any different.
