    @ kokik

No need to dowload this from megauplaod for quick web access -

    Just have a look at C:\Program Files (x86)\Downloaded Installations\{EC1EC7C6-5A27-4576-8812-8AB4D9263FED}\

You will find the .msi file for required for this purpose.
Please note that - you will not have exact {EC1EC7C6-5A27-4576-8812-8AB4D9263FED} folder but something similar one out there. However the installer will be there right inside. Hope this helps ;-)

I seem to have really bad luck with these laptops... Got a new problem today, where it seems to think I'm right-clicking when I'm not, which pops up the right-click menu (undo, select all etc.) randomly, and frequently enough to be really really annoying. It only started this morning, and seems to be getting worse. It's not a stuck key as far as I can tell. Anyone had anything like this?

Can any owners give their opinion on the in built mic for use with programs such as ventrilo or general P2P like Windows Messenger?

I'm unsure whether to invest in headphones or a headset. My preferable choice would be headphones for obvious sound quality.

    Thanks

Sony Vaio Quick Web Access Download Links

    Part 1

    Part 2

To join the parts you will need this

Just download and then keep both parts in a folder and use HJSplit to join them to get the zipped version.

That's not what Quick Web Access does. If you press it from within Windows, like you did, the WEB button is just a shortcut that launches your default browser. You don't even need to install Quick Web Access for that, it's just what the button does at default.

Quick Web Access lets you quickly boot the computer into a mini-OS that's basically just a web browser. Press the WEB button when your laptop is turned off to get it to work.

    Hello all,

Ordered a customised vaio EB series from sonystyle on Friday - the specs i ordered were only available in glossy black, seems like they're extremely low on stock at the moment.

Here are the specs I went for:

    Processor: Intel® CoreTM i5-520M, 2.40GHz
Operating system: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
    Finishes: Glossy black
Hard drive: 320 GB Serial ATA (7200 rpm)
    Memory: 6 GB 1066MHz DDR3-SDRAM
    Optical Drive: DVD disc drive
Display: 39.4 cm LCD, 1920x1080, webcam
    Graphics: ATI MobilityRadeon HD5650 1GB

Yesterday I recieved an email which said:

The production of your customised VAIO order has started.

We expect your VAIO order to be shipped to you between 03.09.2010 and 08.09.2010. Please note that this is an
estimated shipping time. We will send you an update if this estimate changes.

Can anyone who has purchased one of these in the past tell me how accurate these estimates tend to be?

Does the production starting mean that sony have all the parts in stock? When I ordered it said ships in 2-3 weeks, and the woman on the phone said they were low on components so it could be even longer, but these estimates seem to say otherwise.

    Thanks.

They're usually pretty accurate - looks like you got lucky and ordered just as Sony received a new batch of stock. It is always possible you'll get an email pushing your date back, though. But I'd think that if they're saying it's going to go into production now, you should be okay. Don't take my word for that though!

Seems like I did get lucky. On another note, can anyone recommend a good case or pouch that'll fit the 15.5inch E series? Sony did offer one when I bought the laptop, but it seemed extremely overpriced so I didn't bother.

Woah! sounds like you got extremely lucky! I ordered on Friday with almost the exact same specs as you, only Brown and with a Blu-Ray player, and I've only had the email saying "...your customised VAIO order is now scheduled for production." with a date between 24.09.2010 and 01.10.2010
I'm guessing it's the blu-ray drive slowing mine down, surely Brown can't be in such high demand?!

Probably, although I was under the impression they had less DVD drives than Blu-Ray ones as there were more options available with the latter!

Hmm very strange, I just tried configuring one with the same specs as yours and it's now showing unavailable, the DVD drive seems to be the problem, I could only get it to work with a blu-ray writer and in glossy white. Stock on StonyStyle seems extremely low and randomly changing!

Either the CPU or the Blu-Ray drive, depending on what kind of 'chirp' it is (or if you actually have a CD/DVD/BD in).

Grats on finally getting the laptop.

    WELCOME TO HELL!

But yes probably the cpu power-saving. If it goes away by having the laptop AC plugged in (with no usb devices connected) then it's definitely that.

    Hi,

    I have just brought the VAIO VPCEB26FG. ( core i3-350m, 4GB DDR3 , 1920 X 1080 resolution, ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics ).

I have downloaded the AMD GPU CLOCK TOOL from Guru3D.com. Can someone tell me the safe settings to overclock my graphics card ( Default Settings are 450/790). Also, will this overclocking void my warranty ?

    Regards,
    Aditya

Why do you want to overclock dude?
This card runs DIRT2 and NFT Shift at breeze..
First run the games you want to play and see if there is any need to overclock ;-)

i got that dispatch letter on the 26th and arrived on the 31st, so 5 days, you may expect it in that timeframe...but really, the hd screen is amazing. i used to read articles on how bad the stock battery is but i had no idea until i actually got it. 1.the battery sucks BIG time, fake chinese unbranded phones for 50-100 usd come with 4000mah batteries, 2.The speakers suck BIG time, cant handle any bass at all. 3. the mat$hita bd-re drive is really noisy and makes adjacent components and even the chassis vibrate so much that it actually makes an annoying noise. apart from that i'm lovin this EB. Oh, yeah, and its kinda heavy.

does anyone know what media player/codec is best for playing wmv(wmv9) formats, the i5+5470 handles the mkv fine but seeking forward and back takes about a second and a half(should be instantaneous) for wmv

Congo on getting the machine.. I hope it is worth the wait.

Try Zoom player from inmatrix.com. While installing this player, the installer gives you the option to download and install all codecs. Just select all and install everything. You will never need any other video player for any type of file.

I'm glad your 1 and 2 negatives are something that don't appeal to me that much, mines gonna be in the mains and I just slapped £77 on a headset.

No too keen on the Blu-Ray thing though, is it annoying to the point that sometimes makes you second guess your purchase or would you consider it to be minor enough to be able to accept?

They're made in China, the mcr is probably just the location of the warehouse where it's being sent to before being sent to you.

i hate too break it to you, but they said that to me too but mine's got MADE IN CHINA written in big and bold. and no, i really dont think any company would want to pay minimum 5.50 to british people when they can them made in china on 50p an hour wages. vaio laptops are designed and prototyped in japan, mass produced in china, almost every other country is a retail outlet.

    @mythdat, and digitalsoul

thing is, none of them play the wmv9 codec properly, vlc is very poor at wmv9 even with hard ware acceleration, i will give zoom player a try though, have been using SPlayer, and KMPlayer. and a side note, if you guys think i'm retarded to get 6gb of ram, well its cause i turned my pagefile off and now windows is snappy and crisp even though it takes up 46% of ram. and holy hell, i thought the 5470 was gonna be pathetic, hell i played burnout paradise, quake wars, need for speed undercover, far cry 2 with AA full at native 1080p with no problems, just unbearable load times due to my 5400rp drive. alien vs preadator ran with dx11 tesselation at 1024 just fine.

    Hi all - first post.

Firstly can I say thankyou all for helping me decide on my E-series, reading these boards helped me make the decision. Special thanks to Mythdat for the bloatware removal :)

    I purchased:
    Processor: Intel Core i5 450M 2.4Ghz
    Optical Drive : Bluray Writer
Hard drive : 320GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
    Display : 39.4 cm LCD, 1920x1080,webcam
    Graphics : ATI MobilityRadeon HD5650 1GB
    Memory: 3Gb
    Finishes : Black Glossy
    Bluetooth : Bluetooth x1
    Keyboard : English QWERTY keyboard
    Ports : Ports: 3 USB + 1 e-SATA/USB
    HDMI(TM) output : HDMI(TM) output
Operating system. : Windows 7 Home Premium 64 English operating system

Am really loving the experience but have a few questions.

I ordered it with 3Gb of memory because I already had a 4Gb stick of PC3-8500 so was going to take out the 1Gb and make it to six. However they have shipped one 2Gb of Kinston PC3-10666 and one 1Gb of Hynix PC3-8500. I assume the Kinston stick will just run at the lower speed?

The charger on mine gets rediculously hot under gaming, so much so that I cannot leave it on anything that would get heat damaged; is this normal?

    Thanks chaps.

    You're welcome :)

Are you sure that Kingston is PC3-10666 and not DDR3-1066? DDR3-1066 = PC3-8500. DDR3-1333 = PC3-10666. Either way, yes, if it is different, it'll run at the lower speed. Your laptop only supports up to DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500) anyway - memory won't run any faster than that.

Yeah the charger getting hot is normal, unfortunately!
