    Just got my SR

    (P8400, 3go, 250gb, standard battery, integrated graphic)

This thing is insane... First time I used the battery I ran Battlefield 2 for 45min + Prime95 for 20 minutes and I got THREE !!!!!!!!!!! hours of battery life at full performance mode.

Does anyone know where i can get one of those blank SD cards that ship with laptops to fill up the SD card slot? The Dell XPS M1330 that i returned for the Vaio SR came with one.

    thanks

    1024*768 @ medium = +/- 25 fps

It's not pretty, but it's fast enough so it's not annoying (by this I mean I could play a couple hours even if I normally play on my desktop at 1680*1050 @ high + AA 8x + Af 8x at 60fps)

If you qualify for (and use) the Sony Visa credit card, you'll get a $100 discount on first purchase over $300 at Sony. Not always the best option, some credit cards give you cash back or something that might be a better deal, but for me it was a good option.

I ordered a new SR on Friday - unfortunately right before these promotions though I still managed $500 off - and they didn't mention anything about the order being on hold. I should get a tracking number for the first round of stuff today and hopefully my laptop isn't far behind *fingers-crossed*

I'm thinking about purchasing a new SR (my first ever laptop) in the next few days but wondering about the RAM upgrade. Should I get the 4GB from sony or get OCZ from newegg.

-Well the real question is what's the difference between SDRAM&SO-DIMM:
    *4 GB DDR2-SDRAM (DDR2-800, 2GBx2) [Regular price $150] [$75.00]
    *OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800(PC2 6400) [$77]
Sorry for the long post. Appreciate any help I can get.

Yoyo, been wanting to give my newly purchased sr a clean install, but after looking through some guides ive concluded that im not enough of a pc pro to do it. so, is there a way to get it somewhat clean without reinstalling it? what programs can i uninstall, mainly i want to keep the 'mode' buttons and the fingerprint program, but i dont care much for the club/guidebusiness stuff.

any help is really appreciated! /elmi

There's no difference, both are SO-DIMM DDR2 SDRAM
but I think the OCZ is faster than the kind of RAM Sony uses.. somebody correct me if I'm wrong

Thank you for the quick reply. I guess I'll go with OCZ then (a little weary of the rebate process, but I guess I'll deal with it).

Try use the battery a little bit.. like use it till there's about 90% left, and then turn it off or put it to hibernation, then turn it on later and see if the percentage went down?

I experience no drainage too when the battery is fully charged... my battery drains only when it's not fully charged or when i shut down the laptop on battery..

OK, I just had to re-order my SR today because of some problem and my order being put on hold suddenly. The problem is if you sign up for a new card from Sony to get additional money off (i.e. $100 card credit) that it wants to verify its really you ordering because its a big dollar purchase on a new card.

Anyways I went through and re-ordered this time using the coupon code and the campus pack to get $500 off that way, plus $100 off from the Sony card, and also redeemed the SonyStyle points earned from buying this to take even more off. All in all I got ~$650 off which is dang good by me and allowed me to grab the T9400 and 4GB of RAM while still spending less than I was originally thanks to that extra $200 off.

The updated configuration is in my sig. My total after everything is roughly $1,440.

Picked up an SR the other week.

Great laptop let down by two factors. The battery drain is a real disappointment. Have to wonder why the reviews didn't mention this. Also, I can't believe the battery rattles around in the SR - really sloppy from Sony. Two significant (and avoidable) annoyances that really detract from an otherwise excellent laptop.

I have the standard battery but it looks like the case is a mm too large so it rattles around on your lap. Its very noticable.

My last laptop was a cheap dell and the battery fitted like a glove - no idea how sony let this go considering you're supposed to be paying for superior build quality. Might try lodging something in there to stop it...

I ordered over the phone and the guy I spoke with (same guy both times coincidentally) was able to apply the points I earned from the purchase (5pts every $1) towards this purchase. He said the credit would be reflected on the statement along with the $100 card credit. If it doesn't show he told me to call the credit people and they can apply the points that way if it doesn't apply automatically.

I think my discount is like an additional $50-100 with those points so for that money... DEFINITELY worth trying! I only applied so I could finance it and pay it off over time. I can't afford right now to spend every penny in case something happens I don't expect.

Worked out though since I got more money off and still get to pay it off slowly.

Can anyone tell me if the video quality on the built in webcam is any good with vista.

I stupidly just installed xp pretty much as soon as I got the computer and didn't play the camera in vista. With xp installed and the driver found on sony's website the camera looks like crap, so I want to know if its a bad driver currently provided by sony for xp or if its just the camera itself that sucks?

Well... I'm still returning the Vaio because of the screen grid problem... (when something moves i see the lcd grid in an angle of 45 degrees ... It's really difficult to explain but this is really unconfortable. I tough it was only me, but my girlfriend can see the problem as well.

It's the same problem as this guy :
