Just got my SR
(P8400, 3go, 250gb, standard battery, integrated graphic)
This thing is insane... First time I used the battery I ran Battlefield 2 for 45min + Prime95 for 20 minutes and I got THREE !!!!!!!!!!! hours of battery life at full performance mode. -
Does anyone know where i can get one of those blank SD cards that ship with laptops to fill up the SD card slot? The Dell XPS M1330 that i returned for the Vaio SR came with one.
thanks -
Wow that's impressive
how many fps did you get when playing battlefield 2? -
1024*768 @ medium = +/- 25 fps
It's not pretty, but it's fast enough so it's not annoying (by this I mean I could play a couple hours even if I normally play on my desktop at 1680*1050 @ high + AA 8x + Af 8x at 60fps) -
but still, that's pretty impressive for integrated graphics!
-
Go to www.pricegrabber.com
andsearc for Vaio SR129E -
Did u guys see the typo in my previus post? That happens all the time with my SR keyboard. It eats up some of the letters. Maybe I got a bad one....
-
what do you mean it eats up some of the letters??
i type super fast on this keyboard all the time without any problems at all -
just so you guys know, the 200 dollar discount and the 300 campus pack are stackable
-
just got 500 dollars off with the top config 2.8GHz, 200GB 7200rpm and ATI with the smart protection and bluetooth mouse
total order $1,953.17 -
I just took advantage yesterday...got the base config with 3gb RAM, campus pack with the 2yr ADH warranty, and the Sony Visa discount for a total of $1180, $500 off plus the visa. Not a bad deal at all.
-
what visa?
is there a discount for visa cards? -
what $200 discount?
-
check the first post of this thread, the OP listed great deals
-
If you qualify for (and use) the Sony Visa credit card, you'll get a $100 discount on first purchase over $300 at Sony. Not always the best option, some credit cards give you cash back or something that might be a better deal, but for me it was a good option.
-
meh, dont feel like getting a sony credit card
-
just purchased an SR
but sonystyle said the order is "on hold"
has anyone else gotten this? -
I ordered a new SR on Friday - unfortunately right before these promotions though I still managed $500 off - and they didn't mention anything about the order being on hold. I should get a tracking number for the first round of stuff today and hopefully my laptop isn't far behind *fingers-crossed*
-
For all you SR owners, could you check out the post I made here? I have no intentions of spamming the forum but if there really is something wrong with the screen of my SR I want a replacement fast
.
-
My has "on hold" as well. Mmmmm...I wonder what's up.
-
I'm thinking about purchasing a new SR (my first ever laptop) in the next few days but wondering about the RAM upgrade. Should I get the 4GB from sony or get OCZ from newegg.
-Well the real question is what's the difference between SDRAM&SO-DIMM:
*4 GB DDR2-SDRAM (DDR2-800, 2GBx2) [Regular price $150] [$75.00]
*OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800(PC2 6400) [$77]
Sorry for the long post. Appreciate any help I can get. -
Am I the only one to see the lcd grill when something moves on the screen? (film or just moving a document)
-
Yoyo, been wanting to give my newly purchased sr a clean install, but after looking through some guides ive concluded that im not enough of a pc pro to do it. so, is there a way to get it somewhat clean without reinstalling it? what programs can i uninstall, mainly i want to keep the 'mode' buttons and the fingerprint program, but i dont care much for the club/guidebusiness stuff.
any help is really appreciated! /elmi -
There's no difference, both are SO-DIMM DDR2 SDRAM
but I think the OCZ is faster than the kind of RAM Sony uses.. somebody correct me if I'm wrong -
What do you mean see the lcd grill??
-
When I play / move something / listening to a movie, sometimes and not everywhere on the screen, I see a black grid (it's very subtle) and it dissapear almost instantaniously
-
that never happened to me..
-
Is it "normal" if I don't have battery drain? lol
-
Thank you for the quick reply. I guess I'll go with OCZ then (a little weary of the rebate process, but I guess I'll deal with it).
Thanks again TonytheTiger...you'rrreeee great!!! (sorry had to do that). -
Hahaa!! it's okay.. people do that quite often anyways..
btw it's "Gweat" (with a W)
-
do you not have battery drain?
-
I plugged my SR 12 hours later and it still was at 100%
-
Try use the battery a little bit.. like use it till there's about 90% left, and then turn it off or put it to hibernation, then turn it on later and see if the percentage went down?
I experience no drainage too when the battery is fully charged... my battery drains only when it's not fully charged or when i shut down the laptop on battery.. -
OK, I just had to re-order my SR today because of some problem and my order being put on hold suddenly. The problem is if you sign up for a new card from Sony to get additional money off (i.e. $100 card credit) that it wants to verify its really you ordering because its a big dollar purchase on a new card.
Anyways I went through and re-ordered this time using the coupon code and the campus pack to get $500 off that way, plus $100 off from the Sony card, and also redeemed the SonyStyle points earned from buying this to take even more off. All in all I got ~$650 off which is dang good by me and allowed me to grab the T9400 and 4GB of RAM while still spending less than I was originally thanks to that extra $200 off.
The updated configuration is in my sig. My total after everything is roughly $1,440. -
I got new SR a couple of days back.
now i want to reinstall the oeprating system. Sony send so many softwares aleady installed in it. i want to get rid of those softwares.
can any one post the guide to reinstall the operating system. what all one has to do b4 doing that -
Picked up an SR the other week.
Great laptop let down by two factors. The battery drain is a real disappointment. Have to wonder why the reviews didn't mention this. Also, I can't believe the battery rattles around in the SR - really sloppy from Sony. Two significant (and avoidable) annoyances that really detract from an otherwise excellent laptop. -
rattle?
do you have the extended or the standard?
i hope the extended i ordered doesnt rattle
:S -
+1 That would def become an annoyance as I ordered this machine as my new one for the next 3 years until I finish college. God... 3 years of rattling would suck
-
I have the standard battery but it looks like the case is a mm too large so it rattles around on your lap. Its very noticable.
My last laptop was a cheap dell and the battery fitted like a glove - no idea how sony let this go considering you're supposed to be paying for superior build quality. Might try lodging something in there to stop it... -
How did you use the SonyStyle points to take more off? Also, I placed my order Sunday signing up for a Sony Visa, and it's already showing "Your VAIO is being built", so hopefully I won't be delayed.
-
I ordered over the phone and the guy I spoke with (same guy both times coincidentally) was able to apply the points I earned from the purchase (5pts every $1) towards this purchase. He said the credit would be reflected on the statement along with the $100 card credit. If it doesn't show he told me to call the credit people and they can apply the points that way if it doesn't apply automatically.
-
Wow, nice. I wonder if I can do that after the fact...hmm
-
I don't see why not? Just call the credit people and tell them you want to apply your points as a credit towards this purchase. I bet they wouldn't mind.
-
Yea, I'll wait until I get the paperwork in the mail. Worth trying at least!
-
I think my discount is like an additional $50-100 with those points so for that money... DEFINITELY worth trying! I only applied so I could finance it and pay it off over time. I can't afford right now to spend every penny in case something happens I don't expect.
Worked out though since I got more money off and still get to pay it off slowly. -
83% ... 1 hour later still 83%
-
Can anyone tell me if the video quality on the built in webcam is any good with vista.
I stupidly just installed xp pretty much as soon as I got the computer and didn't play the camera in vista. With xp installed and the driver found on sony's website the camera looks like crap, so I want to know if its a bad driver currently provided by sony for xp or if its just the camera itself that sucks? -
that's awesome, congrats!
-
Well... I'm still returning the Vaio because of the screen grid problem... (when something moves i see the lcd grid in an angle of 45 degrees ... It's really difficult to explain but this is really unconfortable. I tough it was only me, but my girlfriend can see the problem as well.
It's the same problem as this guy :
