Me too, and I can't recover or roll back? Feeling pretty panicked over here.

Is there a specific reason why we shouldn't download the sony bios update AFTER already updating to windows 8.1?
-
so, i have the same issue, i didn t know about sony updates, i install win 8.1, and know i can t install sata driver and i have some warnings in device manager.....i don t want to use recovery to fix this...any ideas?
-
I find amazing that Sony doesn't push such important updates through their update software app, whats the purpose of the app then?
How hard is to make a 8.1 deployment package with all the drivers and updates needed btw?
I feel sorry for you guys considering that everybody would expect new 2013 VAIOs would have seamless transition to just a service pack. -
Since the computer is only a few days old and I really didn't mind re-installing just a handful of programs at this point, I decided to try it anyway, despite it only having the option to recover to 8.1.
So well it is a pain, this might be an option for some people to go back and then install the new BIOS before updating. -
-
It really is indeed. I don't get it. Do u guys think there a people working at Sony, who are using the Vaio Pro by themselves? Actually, I don't. They are acting like there's nothing wrong...just can't believe it.
1. I still have the problem with the FN brightness settings. When i shut down my laptop (a real shutdown), and turn it on, it works fine. When I close my laptop to set it in sleepmode, and turn it on, the FN buttons for brightness doesn't work.
I've turned off auto brightness in Vaio Control Settings, & intel settings. Does anyone know, if there's a real solution to this problem? I couldn't find it so far (i've been looking at each page at this forum
2. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, i have the 'wake from sleep probleem'. After a few minutes on lock, my screen turns off, and just won't turn on. Have to use the powerbutton to shut it down nd start up again. Has anyone found something which worked to solve either of these problems?
Thx in Advance
p.s - download & installed the drivers etc for 8.1 -

Have followed this thread for some time to find if it was a good decision to by the Pro 13 or not.. It seemed to have some problems but i did go with it and got it a few days ago.. It was configured with pcie ssd 8gb ram.. Now for the internet problem i haven't experienced any dropouts very positive there. Not all models have that problem.
As i can see some have already posted the problem about the "Turn off the screen" where it won't turn on the screen again and you have to do a reset, possibly loosing data. i have also experienced this. even thought the fix for it now is to let your computer go into sleep instead, i would really like to see this fixed soon.
This laptop and Sony generally have been talked down at in this thread, while i haven't experienced anything particular bad about this laptop i would like to know you guys problems so i may test for my self and conclude whether it is hardware or 'just' software issues. -
I noticed with the "not waking" issue that the laptop is making some ticking noise, sounds like some DC/DC convertor not able to start.
I was able to install the BIOS update after the win8.1 update. i also installed al the sony 8.1 updates afterwards, everything else but the waking issue seems fine -
FYI All, I did the BIOS upgrade after 8.1
Had no issues -

HELP !
I upgrade 17 october my pc to windows 8.1, now i can't update vaio control center and pilot, what can i do please ? -
Hi guys, long time observer of this thread - thanks for all the useful hints.
I just updated my vaio pro 13 to windows 8.1. I have installed all the suggested 8.1 driver updated on the sony website.
The update went fine, but something is definitely not right with my display/graphics. The most obvious thing that I noticed straight away is that the mouse icon was much larger than previously, also the charms bar looks bigger than previously. Some icons in the taskbar on the bottom right of the desktop look blurred, and when I was installing some of the intel/sony updates the windows and text were blurry. Otherwise everything looks fine.
Has anyone else noticed this after upgrading to 8.1? I don't know if this is just something peculiar to 8.1...my feeling is that something isn't right with the graphics. I'm certainly no expert on these things so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! -
and select 100% or 125% to reset it back to the format before Windows 8.1. -
-
-
This is not an issue, windows 8.1 is just finally correcting the scaling problem that makes all your icons extremely small in High-def
-
Im on 8.1 and I too did not upgrade bios prior to updating to 8.1. I have the screen dim bug, but I think that everyone that updates to 8.1 has this. I actually think its a conflict with Sony software and Intel software and has nothing to do with what bios is running. I think it should be possible to solve with a driver update. I too managed to get it not to happen by not letting the OS turn off or dim the screen. Instead I press sleep button when I need to myself. Works ok for me.
A good sideeffect is that my bluetooth is working now. Had issues with the drivers not loading for bluetooth and a ton of errors in eventviewer. works lots better now -

HELP !
I upgrade 17 october my pc to windows 8.1, now i can't update vaio control center and pilot, what can i do please ? -
So I did the 8.1 upgrade, and now every time my screen goes off after a couple of minutes my pc hangs. But worse is that i cant put it in sleep mode anymore... the screen goes black but the rest stays on... thought I fixed it with Intel Smart connect switched to off but it is still persistent.

-
True, I would also like to know if anyone tried to uninstall some sony crap, and see if it fixes the issue.
-
Intel Smart Connect Technology 4.2.41.2499 2013/10/14 update also failed during reboot, the installer got suspended, subsequent updater found it and undo it. now there is unknown device ACPI\INT33A0\0, I think that's the iSCT w/o driver. I am hesitate to try it again.
there is also an Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so can't tell what hardware ID it corresponded to.
Not as lucky as other posters who can do all six updates. Not sure because Model is SVP132A1CL, which is not listed in Sony eSupport for some reason.
I can update the
Intel HD Graphics 10.18.10.3304,
Intel Collaborative Processor Performance Control (CPPC) Driver Update 1.0.0.1013,
Intel Dual Band Wireless 16.5.1.6,
Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter 3.1.1307.0362 (it gives a non-sense error if it is powered off, activate it again and it go thorugh),
and Sony Video Processor 4.1.2247.08090
ones. Wireless is still weird afterwards, keep getting that takes longer to connect warning, and limited connectivity message even actually connects fine.
Definitely not a smooth upgrade for Windows 8.1 -
-
well after experiencing a lot of of the same issues I read here, I thought I'd write to let you kn ow what i did:
When runing on Win 8 and doing all upgrades, it worked great, then
I upgraded to 8.1 before the requested bios update and after this, these things happened,
I then did the bios update just for the heck of it (even though it said to install before upgrading to win 8.1)
experienced the lockup when computer went into to sleep mode (fix was a hard power down),
got errors doing sequent upgrades including unknown items in Device manager, Sata drive upgrade error,
other drivers just plain won't install, had a updated wireless driver from from intel website downgraded
by Vaio Update.
After all that and being totally frustrated, I finally decided to do the (built in) factory restore.
Which by the way when I did do this restore, it mentioned that I was going back to Win8.1
After the restore I was back at win 8, did all windows and Vaio updates. Everything seems
good now. I will wait (probably for a while) before going back to win 8.1, at least until bugs are worked out.
I know a lot of you don't want to go back to the initial factory installed win8. Neither did I.
But it was either that or working with a computer with too many weird open issues.

I to have the same problems as mentioned in here (found this page by googling the problem) and will keep an eye out for a solution in this thread.
To summarize my problems:
When the laptop goes to sleep after x minutes the power light stays on (+backlight of keyboard) but the screen stays black no matter what I do, the only solution is to shut down the laptop completely by holding the power button. I also thought it was a problem with the screen going off at first but I already turned this off (to never) so I would say it really has something to do with sleep under 8.1.
And I also have the adaptive brightness problem as mentioned before. -
Hi guys.
I have a fix for 2 of the issues that people are mentioning (which work for both Win 8 and Win 8.1):
1. Regarding the bug where the screen will no longer allow you to change the brightness after closing the lid (and opening it back up): It is related to the VAIO Care program. If you delete this piece of software (which I never used anyway), you should no longer have problems adjusting your brightness.
2. Regarding the bug where the screen slowly goes dim depending on the darkness of the background on the screen: You can fix by: (1) Right-click desktop; (2) Select Graphic Properties; (3) Select Power; (4) Change 'Plugged In' option to Maximum Performance; (5) Click 'On Battery' at top; (6) Turn off the 'Display Power Saving Technology'.
If I misunderstood the problems being mentioned recently, then I apologize. I know there were several issues with brightness and dimming. But hopefully these will help a few people.
Now, if we can just resolve the issue of the screen no longer turning on after re-opening the lid, I'd be a happy camper. -
Unfortunately for you, the "Open Lid - Resume from sleep function" is controlled only by Vaio Control Center (Windows Power Options do not have this option; only for Close Lid). As far as I read from Sony Communities, the Moderator mentioned that Sony Engineer is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. So I shall wait for the fix instead of going through all the hassle of uninstalling and re-installing.
Right now the Sleep Bug only happens when you close the Lid to sleep. When my Vaio sleeps through idling or manual Sleep, the Brightness FN keys still work. So my temporary solution is to set "Close Lid - Do Nothing". -
-
Do you have a link from the forum where the Sony Engineer tells about the problem? -
[Moderator Nick T - "Hi all,
Sorry for the delay. As for the brightness issue, please bear with us as Sony Eng is working on resolving this issue as we speak. Once they have a resolution, it will be posted at esupport.sony.com. So please check regularly.
Nick--"]
This links says they were able to duplicate the issue on the Vaio Pro model:
http://community.sony.com/t5/VAIO-S...r-waking-laptop-from-sleep/td-p/108365/page/4
[Hi Coliin, Mike406 and all,
We were able to duplicate the issue with SVPXXX models, but not with the SVTXXX models. So Mike406, please try to reinstall windows again. I have a jig with your model and was not able to duplicate the issue at all. I will continue testing on it. As for the SVPXXX model Coliin, please bare with us for the updates. Check esupport.sony.com for updates regularly.

Hi Pro 13 owners
I updated to 8.1 few days ago (offical relese from Windows Store). Now, few things are "different", but I suspect some of them might be due to bad (reseted) settings, so I would like to ask you with 8.1 offical release updates 2 questions:
1, "Metro" graphic elements, mainly right sidebar with settings, Wi-Fi etc. is now bigger, with bigger fonts. Is this 8.1 change, or does it have something to do with new settings maybe? (I still have 125% DPI size as on 8.0)
2, CPU now reaches higher frequency on 8.1 power saver mode. On 8.0, it was (according to task manager) pretty much locked on +- 0.76 GHz. Now, after update, CPU goes up to 100% frequency in power saver. Is this some new enhancement to actually prolong battery life, or did something gone wrong and I ended up with somewhat corrupted CPU scaling in power saver? (I had VAIO fan profile on silent in both .0 and .1).
Thank you for answers, this have been driving me crazy and I could not Google anything usefull. -
-
For your first question, I just fixed it by go to the Setting at right sidebar, PC Setting, Display, and change the drop down menu selection to Smaller.
-
1.THANK YOU! My brightness shi*t works again! I can use the FN keys, even when I've closed my laptop. Can't believe it was something that easy.
2. Is not a problem I have. My problem is that laptop won't wake up (mentioned many times by me nd others), when it's screen is going off after a few minutes. Only solution is to use the power button to turn the laptop off and start over again..
Thanks for your suggestions. -
-
I found a possible solution for the sleep mode bug (screen going black but the rest staying on)!!
Go to task-manager>Services> look for Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology Agent >Properties> Disable and apply >Hard reboot
That fixed it for me! Now I can just close the lid and it goes to sleep without hanging, and also just put it into sleep mode manualy.dkb194 likes this. -
Yup! Im using one and its working fine..

Re: brightness key not function after rapid wake - Sony Community -
Today I hooked my Windows 8.1 Vaio Pro to my TV via HDMI, have 2 problems:
- The maximum resolution supported is only 1366x768 - doesn't allow me to switch to 1080p - any clue why ?
- Sound only comes via Laptop, not via the TV - in the "Sound" tab I see no HDMI speakers either
Can somebody help me kindly?
-
Well small update, the bluetooth driver is still not updating, I even grabbed the driver from intel's site, the same error shows up. Sata drvier also not updating.
-
Mine is good in Device Manager new Intel driver version 3.1.1307.360.
The older version Intel driver version 3.1.1306.346 that I had with Windows 8.0 caused me so much problem (Disconnection/System crash/Bluescreen, etc) that I had to uninstall it to use generic Microsoft Bluetooth driver. But this new driver for Windows 8.1 is working flawlessly. -
I have a generic windows bluetooth driver, there is an unknown device called bluetooth peripheral device that can't be updated or even a driver installed, not sure why this is not working.
Not even sure bluetooth works, since haven't checked.
