Have you tried uninstalling the generic Bluetooth driver, then install the latest Intel version for Windows 8.1 from link here?

So, is it certain that most of the vaio pro with non-touch display have that problem with the glue in the upper part of the frame? If yes, then, I must think that if I choose the touch version I won't stumble in this problem in any case, right?

Just a couple of questions. Does the touch panel worth the expense of €120? Is it more tough to scratches/bumps ecc. than the non-touch one, and is there any real change in shell color if I choose one or another?

    Thanks :)

looking at the setup error log file, the intel RST installer is scanning for
    ...
Device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C02&CC_0106 (Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller)
Device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106 (Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller)
Device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9C02&CC_0106 (Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller)
Device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9C03&CC_0106 (Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller)
    ...

    the controller is showing as
    PCI\VEN_144D&DEV_A800 ...

    see my screenshots at
    Microsoft Windows 8.1

I think that's why the SATA driver update not working

Sony & Intel engineers would have to fix that.

Couple with the unknown USB and iSCT errors, it is almost like the system need to reinstall the Intel Chipset software (and maybe another BIOS firmware update) also before the SATA and iSCT install problem can be fixed.

Don't think so. It's still not working when you close LID to sleep. It probably is fixing those black screen and won't return unless hard reboot issue.

upgraded mines to 8.1. i don't think i have that sleep bug you guys are talking about. i do have the problem of the brightness always staying on full brightness. but i did the temp fix with disabling the auto brightness thing. other than that everything else works fine. all the drivers install fine except the sata (but it says that it's not for my system) so i guess it doesn't matter.

I have a pro 11, but had the same problem 2:
    solved problem 2 with a new graphic driver directly from intel webside; later installed latest sony driver;
also oracle virtualbox could produce this problem.

I also have the brightness to 100% problem - disabling auto-brightness in vaio control center is currently the workaround.

try using this: Sony eSupport - SVP13215PXB - Drivers & Software

i originally installed the bt 4.0 + HS one, but the bt wasn't working correctly. but then at the bottom of the page of the 8.1 i saw another update and it reinstalls both the bt and wifi drivers again and now it's working flawlessly.

I have tried running Kubuntu 13.10 from a USB stick, it was pretty successfull. WiFi worked too. Only 2 things:
    - Keys for brightness don't work (but you can change brightness at battery icon)
    - Keyboard backlight is on by default, can be disabled with a command. But I'm not yet sure how to have this done automatically
Anyone have an idea how I can solve these problems?

hmm seems like a lot of people are having the sleep problem now. I had this ever since purchasing PC. Sent it in for repair, they replaced the motherboard and it never returned. However, I noticed that they didn't update to the latest BIOS at that time. I've been running fine for a few weeks, problem solved. Never did the BIOS update again though... Now seeing everyone with similar problems I'm nervous to update the BIOS and upgrade to 8.1? Any thoughts?

    Hello everyone,

For those who are still having trouble with their WIFI card the best fix is to upgrade the Intel 7260-N to the Intel 7260-AC.
You get the benefits from wireless AC + no more signal drop etc..

The WIFI card that comes inside the Pro is :Model# 7260NGW AN

You will upgrade it to the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Plus Bluetooth 4.0, Model # 7260NGW

Board Form Factor: M.2 (NGFF), Please note this is SMALLER than the typical PCIe Half Mini Card size found in most notebooks.

You can do a quick ebay search and order the model that way. Installation takes no longer than 15 minutes max. Honestly super easy. Disassembly does not void any warranty stickers.

Just a note that it wasn't the Control Center software that was mentioned in the post you responded to, it was removing Vaio Care that seems to fix the problem as worked for me as well.

Yes, this is a known problem. I got around it by re-installing the original Hotkey utilities software and from there, could install the updated Control Center Files. Please note though that it is Vaio Care that you will likely find is what is causing the problem and removing it may fix the problem (worked for me) and was what the prior poster to the response you quoted was writing about - the poster you responded to I think misread the post and thought it was about Control Center.

Asteria, don't think misread the post. Here is what the link said:

[Anyway, after enough thought, more and more evidence suggested this is a problem with the Vaio Control Center (VCC). In the past I've tried deleting it, reinstalling various versions, etc. to no avail. Looking though a few comments of people having trouble reinstalling VCC, it seems that the standard uninstaller leaves behind parts of the program in the registry and other places and that's the problem. Here's the solution:.
    (1) Make a restore point (just in case)..
    (2) Download Revo Uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/start...8203;load.html. It's free for 30 days as a trial. It's designed just for this -- to remove every and all parts of an application..
    (3) Use Revo Unistaller to remove Vaio Control Center. In its various pages asking which parts of it in the registry, elsewhere to delete, heartlessly say "select all" then press delete..
    (4) When you are done, reinstall Vaio Control Center using Vaio Care (desktop version) under Advanced Tools / Restore and Recovery. ]

I felt it was Vaio Control Center too as I came across this issue as early as first week of Sep. I called Sony support and the support staff logged into my Vaio Pro to uninstall the Vaio Control center then reinstall the older version of it which resolved the issue. Then two weeks later, after other issues (numerous crashes, bluescreen), I had to do a Refresh on my Vaio Pro and the problem returned(can't be bother to uninstall/reinstall VCC this time). I started also to find many reports the same issue. Sony communities moderator also confirmed they were able to duplicate the issue and their engineer is working for a fix. So I will be waiting for a fix from Sony.

Removing Vaio Care (glad this worked for you) is not an ultimate solution for me as I prefer to keep Vaio Care for my Vaio Pro maintenance.

Thanks for sharing your success fix.

Agree, taking off Vaio Care is not an ideal solution at all - for me, was happy to live without it. See below the first post I was writing about discussing removing Vaio Care, and the response to it which wrote took it as Control Center so that was the confusing thread I was on about!

I have a fix for 2 of the issues that people are mentioning (which work for both Win 8 and Win 8.1):

    1. Regarding the bug where the screen will no longer allow you to change the brightness after closing the lid (and opening it back up): It is related to the VAIO Care program. If you delete this piece of software (which I never used anyway), you should no longer have problems adjusting your brightness.

    2. Regarding the bug where the screen slowly goes dim depending on the darkness of the background on the screen: You can fix by: (1) Right-click desktop; (2) Select Graphic Properties; (3) Select Power; (4) Change 'Plugged In' option to Maximum Performance; (5) Click 'On Battery' at top; (6) Turn off the 'Display Power Saving Technology'.

If I misunderstood the problems being mentioned recently, then I apologize. I know there were several issues with brightness and dimming. But hopefully these will help a few people.

Now, if we can just resolve the issue of the screen no longer turning on after re-opening the lid, I'd be a happy camper.

    -------------------------------------------------
I kind of agree that the sleep bug has something to do with Vaio Control Center. Someone from Sony communities reported they have successfully fixed the issue by uninstalling the Vaio Control Center including all the traces in the registry using Revo Uninstaller. Then they reinstalled the latest version of Vaio Control Center and it worked. (I did not try)

Unfortunately for you, the "Open Lid - Resume from sleep function" is controlled only by Vaio Control Center (Windows Power Options do not have this option; only for Close Lid). As far as I read from Sony Communities, the Moderator mentioned that Sony Engineer is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. So I shall wait for the fix instead of going through all the hassle of uninstalling and re-installing.

Right now the Sleep Bug only happens when you close the Lid to sleep. When my Vaio sleeps through idling or manual Sleep, the Brightness FN keys still work. So my temporary solution is to set "Close Lid - Do Nothing".

Thank you!! I'm not the one that posted about having problems re-installing VAIO Control Center, but I also had this problem. Been banging my head against the wall the past couple days by deleting every mention of it in the registry with still no success. Just re-installed Hotkey utility (which also reinstalled the original VAIO Control Center) and then I could install the latest version. This had nothing to do with any brightness problems or black screen (after opening lid) - but at least nice to have it back.

Regarding the reply to my original post, I saw that they responded with VAIO Control Center instead of VAIO Care, but I figured there are posts on multiple issues which sound familiar and can be confused. Some people are talking about the prior issue of brightness being locked upon reopening the lid, and others are talking about the new issue in 8.1 of the screen not turning back on at all after reopening the lid. VAIO Care uninstall fixes the first, and hopefully we'll have a fix for the second sometime this week.

Hi guys, first of all this is my first post so sorry if I make any mistake, second excuse me for my probably bad english.
    Here I go:

I successfully installed windows 7 Ultimate removing all bloatware from Sony, by the way I find missing a few things:

    • Function Keys: They are not working.
    • Functions in Vaio Care/Control: With W8 I could configure many things (like batter care), now I cant and has been enabled (I did in W8) but I can not disable it
    • Connection to the Server by Vaio Update: The connections fails always showing error 500 (yes, I have internet access).

    The model is SVP132AC5

    Thank you in advance.

Just checked mine. It's 1920 x 1080. In control panel>Intel HD Graphics>Display: it shows both Sony TV and Local Display at 1920 x 1080 Resolution.

What driver version is your Intel HD Graphics? My current one is 10.18.10.3304. During Windows 8.0 it was 9.18.10.3165.

Audio automatically came out on TV. Speaker icon showed SONY TV....

Thank you for the info...I'm considering using this laptop with only Linux installed (in particular Debian) as the primary and only OS.

Did you have any particular problem when installing or booting up? Have you done something to limit the writes on ssd?

Depends on what you're going to do with it. That would be fine for basic Microsoft Office tasks and web browsing. Anything more you'd want at least 8GB.

    1. Brightness cannot be changed after comming out of standby.
    2. Auto Brightness cannot be disabled via Vaio Control Panel

Anybody know any fixes for the above 2 issues?

Want to share with you my method how did I manage to install clean version of windows 8.1 and activate it (not upgrade from windows 8).

First of all we need to install RW - Read and write utility to find out what serial key is hidden in our motherboard. Run this program and click Access--> ACPI tables and than MSDM tab. There you will see Windows 8 license key.

Second of all I've downloaded and installed from pendrive clean version of windows 8.1

Next step when you are logged in is to dissable network connection.

Now open charm bar and type CMD, right click on it and run it as administrator. Type "slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx" (where xxxxx is your original license key) . Reboot your computer.

That's it, after that my clean install of windows 8.1 was activated and works great.

I'm unsure whether to go for the touch screen. I haven't used Windows 8 or a touchscreen laptop before. I'll mainly be internet browsing, and logging in remotely to my company's applications.

According to the opening post, I would save about 12% weight if I went without the touchscreen, and £80 if buying on the Sony UK online shop. Are the screens otherwise identical, i.e. pixel count?

I am tempted by the weight saving, so does anybody think I would be seriously missing out if I didn't go for the touchscreen?

Has anyone confirmed that the UK models are shipped without PCIe SSD?
Because the UK Sony store says PCIe.
    Thanks

Hi, this is a bit of a long shot but has anyone here got their vaio pro wirelessly connected to their xbox 360?

I have another laptop running windows 8 which can connect to the xbox with no problems and I can stream videos/music etc from laptop to xbox.

With the vaio pro, I can't even detect the Xbox 360 as a device!

Anyone any ideas?! Have ensured that sharing etc is turned on...

Installed Kubuntu but I'm in the process of fixing the bootloader for use with uefi (looking up information, will be applying tonight). Maybe you can help me? I am looking into what the following means:
    "for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt$i; done"

What does the $ mean, does that mean that following characters are a variable? $i would mean that "i" is the variable? Does this mean that I have to do "sudo mount -B /dev /mnt/dev" and so on, for /dev, /dev/pts (sudo mount -B /dev/pts /mnt/dev/pts), /proc (sudo mount -B /proc /mnt/proc) and /sys (sudo mount -B /sys /mnt/sys)?

Furhtermore I found that the FN brightness keys actually do work under Kubuntu only in very small increments and there is nothing on the screen indicating the brightness. The keyboard backlighting can be controlled with a package I found out, haven't found any solution for having it done automatically. Xubuntu and Ubuntu work like it should when adjusting brightness, increments are big enough and there is feedback on the screen.

    Hello RM501,

From October we have an option to choose between SATA or PCIe SSDs. The difference in price is only £40 pounds. Before October it was only SATA SSDs offered to the UK / European market. But I am not sure what comes in the pre configured models.

    Thanks

I received my Vaio yesterday and I couldn't believe how well Ubuntu worked just from a USB key. In fact, it's working a lot more reliably than the mess of different drivers and experience that is Windows 8. My Wifi seems to be working well with Ubuntu rather than dropping out with Windows 8 but that maybe that I haven't applied some update - looking at the posts above lifes too short so I might just stick to Ubuntu. The hot keys work, sound works, HDMI worked. Really very impressed. It also spins the fan a lot less than Windows which just seems to spin it all the time for no good reason. I think it's a shocking state of affairs that Sony/Intel/Microsoft can't make the laptop run as least as good as the Linux guys who have to often reverse engineer stuff/ask for help to get things working.

I can certainly help out with Linux - $ does mean subsitution. So the above script will do what you were proposing to do manually.

Let me know if you've got any more questions, or get dual booting working - that's my next step.

    Rob

Yes I found it to work very well indeed. But how is auto keyboard backlight under Ubuntu? I tested it very shortly and thought it worked automatically but now I'm thinking I might have tested it the wrong way. I hate Unity so I am hoping to get this working under Kubuntu.

And thanks, tried to run the complete sentence at the terminal but it gave errors.

It seemed to be working ok last night, I haven't got it with me at the moment to check. Feel free to ask me about the errors - PM me if not appropriate to the group.

Are you sure this is possible? Has anybody done this?

Could someone please take me a picture of the much-cited problem with the display frame that is not glued well? (in order to have a better idea)

Considering that problem, would you recommend me to buy the touch or the non-touch version? (also considering that I do not need the touchscreen and the fact that is a considerable expense)

Great ... so you just booted from pendrive, haven't got any problems during the installation process?
As for the $, the user has already answered so I will not add anything else :)

Do you think that (considering that Ubuntu and Kubuntu are Debian-based distros) I won't have problems installing it?
