Has anyone managed to disable edge swipe on our Synaptics touchpad? It's driving me crazy and I just can't a way to switch it off. For some reason our driver version doesn't have the option to have it switched off, and the latest driver off the Synaptics site doesn't install properly...

I bought the Sony Vaio pro 13 about a year ago, and yesterday the touchscreen stopped working.
I've tried almost all "solutions" i have found on google but nothing works. I have tried:
- Updating the drivers under "HID Human Interface Devices"
- Uninstalling the drivers under "HID Human Interface Devices" (and letting windows reinstall them on boot)
- Restoring to before a critical windows update (that occured the same morning as the problems)
- Starting the "Human Interface Device Service" in services.msc and setting startup mode to automatic
- Disabling the video card drivers
- Troubleshooting Hardware and devices
When i tried solving it i also noticed that the "Tablet PC Settings" wasn't in the Control Panel anymore. I got to it by creating a shortcut on the desktop with some help from google, and the settings says "Full touchsupport on windows". But i can't calibrate or setup because i can't use the touch screen (the reset button is greyed out).
The same day the problems occured i plugged in a tv as a secondary display, and maybe that could have screwed up the touch screen (maybe it's trying to send the touch input to the other screen? I don't know..).
I'm hoping this is a software issue but it's more and more leaning towards the hardware. Thankful for any help or input! -
Hi,
Anyone have any idea where I could buy replacement keys for the laptop? I haven't had much luck by Googling. Maybe some other model's keys fit this one? I don't know how I would go about researching that.
Some back story:
I had my laptop's screen's backlight repaired and it was covered by the warranty. Fixing the broken T key that was broken by normal typing wouldn't have been.
When I asked how much repairing it would cost they said they don't know yet, and when I asked if they could do it for less than 100 eur they said no because it's 60 or 70 (don't remember) per hour for the work so it wouldn't be under 100.
So that means 60-70eur for work that is so simple an ape could do it, and OVER 30 eur for a piece of plastic. Doesn't seem fair to me. -
fixed the belly click issue while i was opening the laptop again.. if tha thelps anyone.. i just put 2 thin piece of foam (1mm thick dont go thicker or you wont be able to click!). its adhesive foam.
locate the click pad trigger (its a black plastic piece, you push it, it clicks.
locate the large metal piece that is around the trigger, thats what keeps the clickpad plane and straight/keeps it from bending.
you'll notice its been machined so that the clickpad doesnt click from below... well.. except the tolerance must be off or the piece is poorly designed. add 2 thin pieces of foam, one on each side of the metal piece near the plastic trigger.
put back together and youll notice that when compressed the additional 0.5mm or so is sufficient to avoid clicking from below.. the click from above may be a tiny bit stiffer.
if its too stiff from above it means you put too much foam
thats it, good luck -

Problem: the computer won't start, at all..
- Plug in charger, orange charge light is on for few seconds and it turns off
- Press power button, which turns green for few seconds, until it turns off (does an additional blink before going black)
- Press battery reset onthe bottom
-> following things have happened
- Power on, same happens as above, i.e laptop won't start
- Plug in charger, charges for few minutes but the boot doesn't start
Same happens when trying to boot up with ASSIST button...also it doesn't matter if the laptop is connected to charger...
Does anyone have any other ideas how to try and get the thing booting? Device is about 6 months old...a bit less...
Thanks! -

It's so maddening! -
With power plan set to "balanced" with screen brightness on 3/4 and "silence" mode on, while web surfing with Chrome and doing some other things (listening to music or maybe installing somthing) I get the battery to drain EXACTLY 1% every three minutes.
Is it normal? Because for some reason it seems to me that the battery life was a lot better months ago. The only things that changed from then are the Antivirus costantly running (it wasn't installed yet) and the mouse usb wireless reveiver, now connected when I use the mouse (I've usually used the touchpad until now)
Forgot to mention: battery status is ok, 0% degrade until now. -

Hi!
I've just received my Pro 13 (SVP1321C5E, i7, 8GB, 256GB M.2 SSD), and just did a clean install of 8.1. I installed al programs available on the VAIO portal. But I feel there's a lot of bloat, and I was wondering if any of you guys have a minimal list, which takes care of energy and wake up on open lid (doesn't work right now).
Thanks in advance!

This laptop just won't stay asleep!
I've disabled wake timers, uninstall Intel Connnection whatsit, unticked "Allow this device to wake the laptop" in the WiFi settings, and still I find that the laptop switches itself on and stays on, with the lid closed. Worse, it re-ticked the "Allow this device" box. I mean, how is that even possible? It's driving me round the bend. My Pro 11 is just the same.
What's the solution? There must be one! -
-
So, does anyone tried to install Windows 10 on these Sony?!?
If yes, did everything is working fine? Does it gain any more laptop battery time??
I can't put my laptop to sleep but only with the power supply connected and even if specified that after some minutes it should hibernate...
But without power supply, it turns off (sleep/hibernate) just fine. -
I'm debating trying Win10 but I was hoping some others have tried it. Any takers yet?
-
Am I REALLY the only person whose PROs won't stay asleep??
-
Have the same problem, it just won't stay asleep with 8.1
Tried to manually download the new intel 4400 drivers, but it won't install.
Anyone have any ideas? -
I had that problem until I changed so that the keyboard and tracked could not wake the device. Since there was a lot of flex when moving it it would press something.
-
Had it. It was Intel smartconnect. If you disable all that it will not wake up on its own.

Hello there! I'm new here! I have been kind of a ghost member for quite some time. I decided today this could change. So here am I
I have a Sony Vaio Pro 13. i7, 8GB of RAM, 246GB SSD. The last one of its kind to be sold here in Portugal ahah, a story for another post! -
Hello.
someone knows if it possible to by a non touch pro 13 and later buy the digitizer and add it to the screen?
thanks -
Ok, I've figured out why the Sony Pro turns on in my bag .......
The frame is so flexible that if you apply pressure to the area either above or below the "Assist" button while the lid is closed, the machine will turn on into the boot menu
Anyone know how to disable the "Assist" button so that is inactive while the lid is closed? -
-
In device manager, turn off let this device wake the computer for the keyboard. Helped me
-
You can reproduce it by closing the lid and then just applying pressure on the lid above the "Assist" button. Goes into the boot menu everytime for me. -
I never had this problem on my Vaio Pro 11. Even my bag is full of stuff.
May be you have to find something like a cushion to protect your Vaio. -
Anyone try Windows 10 on a VAIO Pro 13? If yes, how was it? Any driver issues?

****Fault with Sony Vaio 13 Pro - shuts off after 30 minutes, every 30 minutes exactly****
I have a Sony Vaio 13 Pro with an unusual fault. It shuts off every 30 minutes (completely cuts off/powers down). After this it can be immediately restarted and will work for a further exactly 30 minutes. The fault is the same whether on mains or battery.
I have tried:
- restoring to factory software
- both windows 8 and 8.1
- reseting the bios
- installing CPU monitor and checking temperature (is cool)
- stress testing the CPU (makes no difference - works for 30 minutes as usual)
Is anyone familiar with this fault, any ideas?
Best,
James -
Has anyone found a permanent solution to the loud fan noise issue? Has anyone thought of upgrading the CPU fan? If so does anyone have a model number for the fan or a link to buy one?

Hi there,
so far I followed this thread from time to time. I did purchase a Vaio Pro 13 in late 2013 therefore I do have one of the first devices SVP1321. Instead of running Windows on it I quickly changed to Linux using since December 2013 openSUSE Tumbleweed (rolling release) on it.
So far I saw that some guys here are talking about going from Win7 to 8 or 8.1. Maybe this helps a little bit for the one or other who things about running Linux on it.
What I ca report ist that the device is a really capable machine for running Linux on it. Since kernel 3.17 powermanagement, fan noise and graphic performance is very well controlled. All function buttons are working. The only thing not working out of the box is the multitouch screen. So touch is not an issue, but not multi point. But in this case this is more an issue of openSUSE than on Linux itself. There is some multitouch driver around, but I do not really need this feature so I never tried to get it working.
As some in the forum mentioned that the Wi-Fi issue is fixed by some more up-to-date Wi-Fi divers. Sorry, but I can not really belive this. This Wi-Fi issue on the SVP1321 really drives me crazy!! I am using a very good Router from Buffalo (3 antenna with 5db gain each, running latest DD-WRT) and I am getting 2-3 bars out of 5 a signal strength beeing 5 feet away from the router - this is just a joke!! I even installed additional repeater at my home to get a signal beein 15 meter away through wooden walls. Under Linux latest kernel 3.17 and latest Intel Wi-Fi driver => poor signal strength and speed!
I am so frustrated that I will got for exchanging the Intel N 7260 card against the AC 7260 myself. I saw that some guys here did this and they reported that the issue was gone or at least was not so heavy anymore.
Can anyone confirm this??
Is here anyone who has also one of the devices from 2013 (SVP1321) and has really not Wi-Fi issue? Or was his device maybe at repair because of something else and Sony fixed the issue? -
I haven't had any Wi-Fi issues and I've owned my svp1321 for about a year. The only "issue" I've had is the loud fan noise when charging and a few other occasions. I thought about switching to Linux Mint, but I'm not really sure if I want to.
-
Mine has now started to wake up from sleep when the lid is closed. This happens pretty quickly after closing the lid. So suddenly the fan is going berserk.. when i have it in a bag it's very hot (and loud) when I open it. Did anyone find a fix for this?
-
Is there a way to back-up the recovery partition in case I want to completely wipe the SSD and do a clean install?
-
change the maintenance wake up settings in windows 8.1 from action center! happened to me too
+ check all tasks for wake ups in task scheduler from admin tools in ctrl panel just to be sure -
Hello - and merry christmas to all!
Just thought I'd post this while I remember, and since the problem has arosen in the past few days...
My second battery (i.e. the battery sheet) won't charge for more than 30 %... Any idea why? Is it hardware related: is the battery broken? I don't think it's software related since I've checked all the battery management (care) options...
Regards from Sweden. -
Hello there,
As a proud owner of an i7 Sony Vaio Pro - for me - the only " imperfection" worth noting is the inability to maintain fps steady during games. This is not a consequence of lack of hardware power but a consequence of bad heat dissipation (the lightest 13 incher must have some character, right? ahaha), as the temperatures increase and the fan becomes incapable of refreshing the system, the motherboard undervolts the CPU (and the GPU?) in order to decrease temperatures. This is what causes the "ups and downs" on the fps count during games. Am I right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Regarding this issue, through tests, I've found that some games run better using these settings in Vaio Control Center: Power Plan set to Energy Saving and CPU and Fan set to Performance. Some games like Asphalt 8, max settings @1080p show a clear performance increase. However, I'd like to know what are your opinions (and user settings) regarding this issue. Also, how do you configure (if at all) the Intel HD Graphics utility when you want to play a game?
Oh and what are your settings for your daily usage? I usually use my laptop with these settings: Energy Saving/Silence; Balanced/Silence or Balanced/Standard (the recommended setting). Thank you for your help!
Merry Christmas and a happy 2015 to you all!Last edited: Dec 29, 2014 -

Anyone have the webcam light randomly flash every now and then during a Skype video call?
-
After a few pints, I tried logging onto my machine via Bitlocker and put the wrong password in loads of times, causing it warn of 'too many pin attempts'.
It turns out that too many wrong password attempts cause the TMP chip to 'lockout' for a certain amount of time, after which I can try again.
Unfortunately, the amount of time it locks out depends on the manufacturer and model of the TPM chip and the advice is to check the algorithm with them.
I believe it's a version 1.2 chip, but without being able to log into my Vaio Pro 13, I can't glean any more information.
Would some kind soul be able to go into 'Devices' and check whether there's any more info in there for me please? Or if you already know something about the TPM or it's lockout policies? -
In the last 2 weeks I started to get BSODs, and after some of them the computer won't boot. It fails to find the SSD (even in the BIOS screen), and it takes a few hard resets to get it working again.
Worse part is I can't get it to be serviced because I don't live in the USA, and the warranty just expired.
-
So guys, you've all heard about the windows 10 announcement, and the best news is that the update will come for free. Question is, how are we going to get our updates, knowing that Sony didn't support for the VAIO anymore? Or will the update be so streamlined and straight forward like typical windows update, that we don't need to worry for support from Sony?

hello,
could anyone help me finding vaio pro with i7 processor and windows 7 (could be 8.1 if not possible) and matte display?
any anyone could say anything about intel hd 5000 inside in pros? its gives a graphic boots above from 4400?

Hello everyone,
My Vaio 13 pro is misbehaving.
It gets stuck with a black screen after returning from standby, and after a hard reset it doesn't find the SSD and fails to boot.
It takes a couple of tries to get it running again, and it works great as long as I don't put it on standby.
Anyone else has this problem? -
I upgraded to Windows 10 with no issues. I wasn't brave enough to do a clean install (even though that's the better way to do it).
Did anybody do a clean install and have driver issues?mimosoft likes this. -
Hey guys. I've had my laptop for over a year and I was curious if I should replace my thermal paste yet.
What temperatures are you guys getting with casual browsing? Here are my results:
*This is using HWMonitor
60-65 degrees if I have a few tradingview charts and VLC media player videos open. 48 degrees Celsius is the lowest I can get if I have nothing open except HWMonitor.
Is this too hot? Does anyone have cooler idle results?Last edited: Feb 26, 2015 -
HERE IS A FIX FOR THE HORRIBLE BUZZ SAW / MODEL HELICOPTER BLADES fan noise problem which develops on some Sony Vaio Pro 13 models:
BEFORE you read what I wrote below note that my own fix for the Vaio Pro 13 fan noise which suddenly appeared after 11 months of fan noise free usage refers to a youtube video made by Larry Blackledge , here is the link go watch it .. it puts my comments below into context and helps you fix the problem (video title on you tube is the following but don't worry for the fix I didn't replace or remove the existing troublesome fan:
"Sony VAIO Pro13, svp132 fan replacement, case removal").
I am surprised that owners of Vaio Pro 13's are getting this problem on day 1 as the fan should be in tip top condition.
So my original youtube post starts:
Many thanks for this kind sir, I was nervous about opening the laptop but I fixed the problem without replacing the fan (although for the future I ordered a fan as it seems to be the weakest link in this excellent laptop). Just as background I got my Sony Vaio Pro 13 around March 2014, it was the later version which didn't have the WiFi problem and I've never had any problems with fan noise or overheating until 2 days ago where the laptop launched into fan full speed with prolonged overheating on the underside and also with awful helicopter type buzzing noise which made the laptop almost unusable as this was a terrible distraction to others and myself. The noise would commence after starting the machine for 1 minute and then launching any application such as Skype or YouTube. I suspect that the problem was that the oil lubrication on the spindle of the fan had totally evaporated and the ball bearings were grinding, I typically used my laptop every day for an average of 2 hours and then left it on all night playing podcasts which I listened to (subconsciously mostly) for hours - this has been the pattern of usage for 11 or so months.
So the steps I followed to fix the fan noise problem for my Sony Vaio Pro 13 were as follows:
1) open the laptop as described in the video above being careful to not force anything as the plastic could snap, using one of those plastic levers used to open tablets is useful to have for this.
2) you will see the troublesome fan, focus on the fan and not the copper heat sink and without removing the fan (don't remove the fan for my fix) you will notice that it has a black circular sticker attached to the main spindle, the sticker has a center circle cut out at the middle with a small silver/white spindle dead center of the black sticker cut out hole (it's around 5mm in diameter). Now I removed the sticker taking care not to damage it but looking back I suspect this may be UNNECESSARY. Then I doused a COTTON SWAB with oil lubricant (I used U.K. WD-40(tm) although again I'm not sure if that was the ideal chemical to use), so you can use an oil soaked cotton swab or say instead a kitchen towel twisted to form a fine tip with oil on the end. REMEMBER you want the cotton swab to be wet with oil but not DRIPPING as it may drip the lubricating oil onto other components and you don't want that as damage may occur due to this.
3) With the cotton swab wet with lubricating oil simply gently circle the silver spindle in the middle of the black sticker ensuring that a modicum of oil enters the spindle. REMEMBER we don't want to saturate the spindle with OIL just a small SMEAR will do.
I smeared light amounts of lubricating oil under the sticker area but I think that is not needed. Also if you DID decide to remove the sticker remember that there are copper coils beneath the sticker now exposed, there is no need to oil those so don't do it ! If you did decide to remove the sticker put it back exactly as you found it, I used a small about of Pritt Stick(tm) to do this and it worked fine - make sure it is secure though you don't want that sticker peeling off and falling onto the components whilst your machine is on.
4) re-attach the underside of the Sony Vaio Pro 13 carefully as shown in the video above being mindful that the side with the ports USB/audio jack should be tackled first as this is like the main hinge (of the oyster clam!). The audio jack is notoriously difficult to slot into place but as a useful tip, simply plug in your head phones into the audio jack on your Vaio Pro 13 and then GENTLY pull down on the plugged in audio connector to slot it back into place. Then replace the screws and the rubber 'feet' of the laptop as stated in the video and VOILA !!! you have a (FAN) SILENT AND COOL SONY VAIO PRO 13, mine has been playing 4K Youtube videos for 5 hours straight and the fan is silent, you can't hear a thing.
Side Notes: To be honest I was surprised at the results, it's almost as if the controller for the fan doesn't start if it detects resistance due to lack of lubricant on the spindle for the Panasonic fan and then doesn't kick in until it's panic time and the CPU is at 65 to 70 degrees Celsius and then the fan is like a buzz saw / helicopter rotary blade on full steam ahead with the underside of the laptop uncomfortably hot. I'm glad this fixed it as I didn't want to make modifications to any driver configs (there are tools to do this) or go on a hunt for a troublesome app that was causing this or do a factory reset to see if it was a software problem. If your Sony Vaio Pro 13 is still under warranty and you have time then I recommend that you return it to Sony instead of following my instructions or if you are worried about taking damaging your laptop, call up Sony and ask how much it would cost to repair your unit - I'm not sure if they still do fixes for out of warranty laptops though as they sold their Vaio business last year... -
Anybody now how to update the intel video driver?
The sony video driver is really outdate
