Welcome to the thread!
It's nice to be able to discover if concerns are common or just flukes.
My VAIO F 3D BD player stutters at times when playing Blu-ray 3D's when using the Sony personal 3D viewer via the HDMI output, but it doesn't always happen and I've never discovered what or if I've configured something differently when it does happen. Never notice stuttering when the laptop's HDMI output isn't used.
PowerDVD doesn't solve the problem, but I prefer it over WinDVD for compatibility issues with newer Blu-ray 3D releases that Sony has demonstrated over a considerable period of time it is not adequately addressing.

I'm excited to get a Personal 3D Viewer by the way! I've heard great things about the image produced by those two actual OLED screens, which I imagine have great black levels as well. -
Well, time to bring this thread back to life.
There is several updates at Esupport. But I'm not sure if its even worth downloading.
Sony finally has an Nvidia update.
Sony eSupport - VPCF2190X - Software & Drivers
I'm using version 285.62 from Nvidia at the moment. Not sure if its worth going back to the Sony version.
There is also a WinDVD BD software update.

You may also need this update as well.

Cyberlink now has PowerDVD 12. (Which I installed the other day.) I'm not sure if I want to go back to WinDVD. -
is this a thread about the Vaio F23 ? im considering buying one but i m a bit of a silence nit. I cant stand noise and i was wondering how it was on the Vaio F23P1E
-
it seems it is, im thinking about buying a Sony Vaio F23P1E but ive been told there are heating issues ! I cant stand noise and im looking for the perfect quiet computer.
What do you guys think? -
What heating issues have you heard? I have yet to run into anything of the sort.
That aside, just about all of the Fs are not going to be "quiet" computers. For the most part, all of them run on quad-core i7s and dedicated GPUs, so the fan is running (at varying levels, mind you) most of the time. -
Mine does blast its fans fully, but it's only when i'm running something CPU-intensive.
Other than that, it's as quiet as a Macbook Pro.
I'm really loving this machine....it's a nice HTPC/working rig that does its job very nicely. And the screen is really amazing (and very comfortable on the eyes, too)
As for updates, i'm running the Geforce 285.62 driver and it's rock solid, and i'm currently using PowerDVD 12 and the Shark's 007 codecs, for 3D playback under Windows Media Center.
So far so good! -
Hi there,
Im thinking about buying a sony F series, im looking for something quiet and nice quality screen
What do you think about those 2 offers ?
so far :
customised VPCF24C5E
I thought about adding more ram and a sdd but sony's ram is too expensive, as well as their sdd, i'd rather buy it myself and add it up.
Or i can have this fully build at a french website:
Sony Vaio F23P1E
i wont need the bluray (but maybe i can sell it?), wont need 640go space either, wont really game so not sure I7 and 2go graphic card is much use. And as you see the F23P1E comes with a VAIO Plus screen not a premium :< is it worth it to go for premium screen ?
what do you think ? #1 choice or #2 ?
Btw wont it be more silent with an i5 than a i7 ? Would i be able to easily add a SSD? if so is it instead of the disc player? -
up, the promotion is ending soon!
and BTW i have the choice between 2 cpu and none of them are quadcore
Intel®Core(TM)i7-2640M,2.80GHz
Intel®Core(TM)i5-2450M,2.50GHz
What do you think for quietness ?
and other thing, are sony computer tweakable ? i mean can we add our own piece of SSD and memory stick instead of buying it to them ? because it would be a lot cheaper if so -
I would personally go for the second option if the prices aren't that too far apart. The quads aren't dead silent but they're not obtrusive while doing light tasks. My mentality is to upgrade the parts from Sony that you would otherwise have trouble doing yourself (CPU, GPU) and possibly regretting later. HDD and RAM are indeed self-replaceable.
As for option 2's screen listed as a Plus, I'm not entirely sure about that. It has been mentioned here and there that the only difference between Plus and Premium was the matte finish, but it appears to be that the F23 you show has the matte display. It's a bit hard to say for sure; I've checked around briefly and everywhere else mentions it as a Plus, as well. -
The Plus screen option is just a regular glossy LCD display (usually with a screen resolution of 1600x900 or less, for 11"-13" VAIO models). Whether the Premium is the matte finish anti-glare LCD display.
But, anyway. I would suggest getting the Premium option if possible. You won't regret it working with Photoshop or some other photo editing program with that. Also, is great for movies too, as dark scenes will get displayed as intended, and you won't have trouble recognizing shadows, nor other details of a movie, during dark scenes. -
hey,
ive just received my vaio, so far so good, just wanted to know a few thing
1) how do i know my screen is a premium one ?
2) i wanna install a SSD, and i dont think i have any cd. I have windows on a USB key but will i be able to use the sony key as its for WINDOWS OA ? which windows iso shall i download?
3) when i reinstall it, its gonna all clean without any pre installed software but what about the vaio thing? because i like the way to put your computer "silent". I bought it as i wanted it to be silent ! would i be able to install again this "vaio center" to make the fan go quiet?
Thanks again -
Hi
I posted a problem with my F22 2D in the owner's thread but I figured I'd ask on here too since both models are so similar and I need advice badly.
I recently began using a new F22 2D and ran into a very annoying problem that I have some questions regarding. The problem is that when I use earphones or headphones in the jack and a bluetooth mouse (Dell Travel BT Mouse), there is a lot of noise in my earphones. The noise is constant, loud and a mixed in with beeps. It just sounds like audio interference of some kind.
I tried using a regular wireless usb nano adapter mouse (MS 3500), and although the noise isn't as bad, there is still low audio noises coming from my earphones. With trackpad only, there is a faint noise still of a static crackle pop, pop, pop, pop, pop with a pause in between each low pop.
I have the previous generation F series, an F12, and never had this issue with it. Is the F22 2D defective, or is this normal in this model? Can anybody who uses it with a bluetooth or wireless mouse with earphones/headphones chime in on their experience with this model? I am frustrated and don't know what to do. There is no noise from earphones when I am not using a wireless/bluetooth mouse, and unplugging the AC Adapter doesn't make a difference. -
I think I have a similar issue to you. When using my mouse, I do get some sort of faint feedback/buzzing in my headphones. The only time it's ever really "turned off" is when I shut off the wireless switch (never tried just turning off the mouse, though). At the end of the day I just began to live with it, as the feedback goes away immediately when I actually have sound coming in from a movie or game; you know, when it matters most.
-
What mouse are you using with it? Bluetooth or USB receiver? One poster reported in the 2D thread that he has no issue like mine when using a USB wireless mouse. I hear sound when earphones are plugged in period, but the sound is worst with Bluetooth. For me when using a Bluetooth mouse, the sound is not faint but pretty loud and intrusive, to the point where I can't leave the earphones in my ear. When I play a movie or song, if the volume is low enough, the feeback/buzzing is still there. If I turn the movie volume or song volume up, it can drown out the noise. But the noise is there and never stops, I would just have to drown it out in order to not "hear" it.
Can you try playing a movie or song at really low volume and see if the buzzing/feeback is still there? I'm curious if it does stop with yours or that you just don't notice it b/c other sounds are being played over it. Thanks!
If this is a common issue with this laptop I am surprised more people have not commented on it. This means frequencies/signals cause feedback noise b/c something is amiss in the construction of the laptop. I am not computer savvy enough to know exactly what but perhaps lack of proper shielding, a design flaw, bad GPU/soundcard, bad motherboard, driver issue, etc The F12 I have had no such problem and this is not the norm with other laptops either. -
-
Based on your reply I'm guessing that you also have the same issue. Did you ever contact Sony about this? What model laptop do you have? Thanks. -
You can try though, I'm more unsatisfied with the crappy 2.4GHz only WiFi card
-
Hi could someone let me know what the best method is to do a fresh install on my vaio?
I have a VPCF215FD and I'm not sure if I can just do a clean install with a windows disc or if there's a certain procedure with these laptops? (I had a gateway before that needed the recovery disc to install otherwise it would not boot with a normal windows install)
thanks for the help! -
Hi..I want to purchase one laptop.
In my country (Spain) there are two models for about 1000€ (Re-furbished).
What I should choose?...is better f21 in terms of display premium or f23...what about refrigeration?...what is better in this/all terms?....
Here are the specs....(both have display premium 1920x1080) is quite important the display for me...what the best display in this two models?.
VPCF23C5151S.ES2.A
Vs
VPCF21Z1E/BI.ES2.A (this is 3D)
I should buy this evening!!!... I important the best display and refrigeration (f21 or f23). See links for all specifications...
Has the f21 better screen because 3d/120hz?....i´m notice that it has very strong view angles... (IPS???), what about contrast, colors...etc, in both?.
What are the differences vs new f24 with screen quality?
THANK YOU, AND SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH!!!. -
From my experience with the F21, the colors have been outstanding, and viewing angles have never been a problem. When watching movies and youtube clips with roommates, we usually use my laptop just so that we can all see the screen without distortions.
The cooling has never been too much of an issue for me, except when doing heavy data transfer between hard drives, where the palm rest gets almost uncomfortably warm where the internal hard drive is, but the rest of the laptop stays cool.
Between the two that I found online, the F21 has a 640G hard drive, with the 2630 i7 processor, where the F23 has a 500G hard drive, with 2670 i7 processor. The other options, I couldn't really tell if there was a difference or not, simply because I don't read Spanish. Comparing the 2670 and the 2630, you will notice a very slight difference in benchmarks, but in real use, there is not that big of a deal. However, an additional 140G of hard drive can always be used.
Good luck with your purchase, and I hope you enjoy the laptop!
As far as I am aware, Sony has not announced a refresh of the F series for the new year with Ivy Bridge processors, so no F24 or F31.... yet. -
Thanks!!!...
Is F21 in 3D...is screen good?... I heard about it is an ips panel.
Has the F21 2nd bay to install another Hard Disk / SSD?.
I purchased the F21 3D , I have 30 days of probe....Is my purchase correct?.
It cost me about 1000€....
VPCF21Z1E/BI
THANKS!!!! -
Please...I was in a trouble!!!!.
I can´t decide...
F21 ---> DISCARD
WICH MODEL HAS BETTER SCREEN / ANGLES / COLOUR GAMOUT.
Which is better panel?
VPCF23Z1E/BI Vs VPCF21Z1E/BI
Thanks a lot!!!! -
FYI: Sony VAIO F Series Laptops are "no longer Available in the USA." i.e. They have been discontinued.
The only Sony VAIO PC with 3D capability will be a desktop PC/TV and will be available about 07/06/2012 " 3D VAIO 24" L Series Desktop PC/TV". It uses glasses free 3D technology and has a Full HD 3D touchscreen display.

Sad Sad Sad !!!
The F 3D will always remain special though in VAIO history. The VAIO with the best screen ever !
-
Has anybody taken the cover off of the LCD on the VPC-F215FX/BI to see what the model number is of the LCD?
-
-
Hello guys, will you please tell me if the new Retina Display from the 2012 Macbook is better than the NTSC screen from Sony Vaio?
-
IMO, there obviously would be "better" = higher resolution rendition ability.
Also, wonder if the display would lack 3D processing capability with a high refresh rate potential?
Paul -
I've yet to see a laptop with a screen as great as the Sony Vaio. Hopefully in the future Sony will create a gaming laptop with the same screen. I'll buy it instantly. Right now I can't enjoy games at full details even though CPU, RAM and HDD are not a problem in this regard. -
Well I got good news folks !
F 3D successor is coming soon. Around the Christmas holiday period.
I can't wait !!!!!! -

Please help I have 3 problems. New to this and sorry if been discussed already!!
I live in UK and have vpcf21z1e.
EVERY time I start the laptop from a restart or loading up from a power switch on start up i always get a pop up which is the vaio control centre....see below...
I have spoken to viao and they remote logged in. we saw that when I have my external display plugged in (sony tv) it pops up but when not connected it does not pop up. Now i don't want to unconnected it as I always have it plugged in and not ideal to keep getting up and plugging in.
What I would like is the hdmi for the external display to be plugged in and O pop up comes up. Please can you help?

I also have a problem with a D-Link port replicator hub. When I do a restart the port replicator shows with all devices connected to it. But when I do a shut down then a start up ip wont show, so i have to get up discconect the port replicator usb that goes in the laptop then reconnect. It all shows again with devices connected but again not ideal!!
link for usb hub i have:
D-Link 7 Port USB Hub. DUB-H7 USB 2.0 | eBay
Finally I have a problem with my usb wireless keyboard. This is nothing to do with the above problem as the usb dongle to recognize the keyboard goes in its own dedicated usb port on the laptop. The problem im having is that again every time i restart or do a fresh start up the wireless keyboard works but has the num lock enabled so EVERY start up I have to push function key and num lock to get working ok. The keyboard on the actual laptop works fine and i dont have to push function and num lock on there.
Link to wireless keyboard I have:
Wireless Keyboard with Trackball : Media Centre Keyboards : Maplin Electronics
Hope you can help with the above
thank you in advance

To be honest I can't contain my excitement for the new F series successor and I was wondering if we can do some guesswork to spice up our curiosity more. I know it sounds a little strange maybe, but I really want to buy this new model (and sell my current F series) if it comes with a 512 GB SSD and most importantly with a gaming video card. So what do you think guys, can YOU guess what the new F has cooking for us?
-
My Expectations
16 inch OCB LCD 3D panel with frame Dimming/tweaked for improved contrast, OptiContrast Panel.
upto 16GB RAM
IB Core i7 Quad
SDD options upto 512GB
xLoud and Digital Amplifier, 2.1 audio
TDG BR750 3D glasses bundled
X-Reality Engine
Powerful GPU (Nvidia GTX670M will do) -
I wanted to reply last night but when to click "Reply" my computer shut down. I programmed it to do so.
haha. Fact is when I read your expectations I got really excited. If the video card is for gaming and the screen remains exactly the same or improved, I will instantly get it. I plan on buying an SSD for it, too, but not from Sony, they're way too expensive!!
-
Found out by mistake, open IE and go to Homepage | 3DVision Live open any 3d video, it will change Windows color scheme, now without closing the browser or opening new tab, go to youtube on the same page and play any video, full screen for auto 3d or press 3d button and it will play any video in 3d, I hope this help everyone because now I can watch loads of youtube videos in 3d.
-
The F3D display Function states it "Cannot switch to 3D display" and to "launch software that supports 3D playback, and then play the content."
Paul -
If it does, the three areas that I think need improvement over the Vaio F2 are the GPU, the onboard sound, and the webcam. None lived up to my expectations of a desktop-replacement multimedia laptop. The rest of the machine is fantastic, so I hope Sony doesn't mess with what was good about the Vaio F2.
EDIT: Maybe it'll be one of the first machines on the market with a 2560x1440 screen? Lots of talk about that resolution being emphasized with Windows 8, and it'd make sense for Sony to debut the resolution on an F-series. -
Hey paul, please read carefully what I wrote before, if you go to youtube 3d channel and press 3d button it will not work but by going to NVIDIA website and play Nvidia 3d videos on Nvidia website, you will see light on your 3d button is on, then without closing the browser on the same webpage go to youtube and play 3d videos or normal videos to turn into 3d, that worked for me so I hope it works for you too, if not then someone more expert can help.
-
Homepage | 3DVision Live this is the website you need to go to first to play 3d videos before going to youtube.
-
No F 3D successor yet, I guess now we may see it only at CES
Sent from my Sony Xperia S using Tapatalk -
When is the next CES Avmaxfan? I'm not too well informed on these events. Sad news though...
-
Well I know I asked a stupid question which Google can ace in a sec, but I just wanted to keep the topic going
. Each reply makes me feel even closer to the new F3D!
-
-
Sounds good
. I have another question. My Sony Vaio 3D fan is kind of loud because of dust accumulation. I tried opening my laptop today, but on the side of the fan, the case won't snap out. I looked, tried to figure it out, but couldn't. Is there a video of someone opening F3D? Would really appreciate it.
All the best! -
Hello guys,
Does anybody has a Sony Vaio VPCF-234FX?
Thanks! -
I have the same problem with removing the case. I think there is a hidden screw but I can't find it.
-
Too bad... I will take it to a service for dust cleaning these days. They must know how to get it open.
