Might have to wait more. According to them - they got it after 12 days and the update appeared after nearly 20 days.

Got mine - took about 2 months.

Ordered through my business from a non-sony authorized dealer.

They extended the rebate and SR290PDB is now back on backorder. The last units were purchased after the rebate was extended.

    Next ETA is 1/08/09.

$1037.01 is the cheapest price I can get the SR290PDB for right now. Anyone seen it cheaper? Or is this truly the laptop to get?

I kept going back between other brands and thinner laptops, but this one seems like it has good price, discrete and is decent overall.

Battery drain issue is of serious concern and I haven't bought because of this.

I think I'll pass on the Sony till they fix the battery drain issue. They have a full month to fix it. If not it looks like I will go to another vendor.

Same here - was about to order a Sony Z11 wn/b but the battery drain issue is a complete show stopper for me. Will probably get a Toshiba R600 but would have prefered the Sony.

    cheers

I was looking at the U400-S1301 Toshiba which is their 13.3" model.

The R600 is way more than I need.

Also saw the A605-P201 on sale at B+H which is now in the running as well. Need another price reduction though on the A605-P201 since its slightly out of budget.

Still debating what to do. Will wait a little bit more.

Sony VAIO SR290PDB is still out of stock. Inventories were expected today.

    California, Southern -7 10 01-14-2009
    Tennessee 0 5 01-14-2009
    Illinois 0 10 Past Due
    Pennsylvania 0 5 01-13-2009

Maybe they realize the battery drain issue and will fix it in the latest deliveries? One can only dream. Seems like 1/13 and 1/14 deadlines could be missed as well.

Toshiba U400-S1301 has plenty of inventory in stock and A605-P201 is in stock.

Makes you think that the Toshiba U400-S1301 isn't selling too well, while everyone is buying the Sony SR series even today. Sony SR290PDB's have backorders while U400-S1301 has literally hundreds of units built and ready for delivery.

My own gut says that U400-S1301's will be able to be had for cheap as prices must drop for them to be sold.

Therefore its a hedge between 2 Toshiba models and the Sony right now. As inventory isn't in stock on the Sony anyways, no reason to rush to get myself on the backorder list.

Maybe another model could come out and surprise us or an update or something. Who knows.

Do you have to be a business partner or something with Sony to get this rebate or can any Joe Blow get it? I just talked to a rep and he said I was s.o.l. for this rebate cuz it's for businesses only.

The rep didn't know what's up. It's meant for Sony's business customers, but they are not discriminating. Anyone can use it.

Well went in store and saw the Toshiba R600 - didn't like the screen at all. They did have the Toshiba U405 - lovely screen, really as good as the Sony SR29 sitting next to it. Am looking at the business version the Toshiba U400 which has a 2.53 GHZ processor. If there is no battery drain issue then I will probably get that one.

    Cheers

I had cut the whole white label that has all UPC and what not and sent it to them. I did not send the one on the flap and yet I got an email saying I am approved and will be receiving my items soon. Yay!

    Just another data point:
I sent in my UPC, form etc. for my QuickShips SR220J/B on 1/8/09, and I got e-mail confirmation ("We are now processing your claim") today, 1/19/09.

My claim does not yet show up under "Track Your Rebate" on the website.

I guess you are set, if not and you never received it you can argue that you got confirmation with the email. So if it doesn't come in like 4 months give them a call, cause i think people got their things within 3 months. So keep the email for now.

having received the loot - some preliminary observations.

love the bluetooth mouse. though not as many features as a logitech laser mx3200 , it is pretty neat to use a mouse without a RF receiver sticking out of the USB port of your notebook. plus the thing is responsive. the cursor covers more real estate per movement than it does with the MX laser.

the stick adapter is nice - its always great to have a second adapter lying around.

the docking station is the least used IMO. I wish I had a larger house with a home office on a regular table. having a crummy apartment, I dont see much use to it.

but hey, 350$ worth of free goodies - whos complaining?

I just got my Z and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. If I remove the UPC bar code on the bottom, is that going to interfere with my ability to return the unit if I decide to?
Also, they ask for an 'invoice' but I don't have one since I ordered it from SonyStyle and just put it on a credit card. I have a packing slip but thats it.
    Any suggestions?

If you remove the UPC bar code, you'll not be able to return the laptop for a refund.

Got mine on Friday, too. I had a Z540EBB from SonyStyle, which at the beginning (October time frame when I bought my laptop) it was mentioned specifically in the terms and conditions that SonyStyle purchases are not eligible. However, Sony changed the TC later and I submitted my request on 12/26. They got the request on 12/29 and I got my stuff on 2/6. Very quick.

I think as long as it's not from eBay you are ok. You would want to check whether they have updated the list of eligible product to include the Z600 series, though, since it's rather new.

Just received the first of a pair of Productivity Bundles (second one is arriving tomorrow).

The docking station is nice and very well built.

The mouse is surprisingly comfy, works well and is very easy to setup.

The power adapter... well... I thought people were exaggerating about its size but yes.. indeed it is larger than the standard adapter, which cracks me up. But ah well, I needed a second adapter anyway and it was free, so no complaints.

The sony dealer part you can leave it blank, i think its optional, cause i didnt put anything there, same for the business name and position.

I guess its pretty reliable since so many people received the rebate already

I ordered my Sony Z from Sony Style and mailed my rebate application in early January. My productivity bundle arrived in the mail a few days ago. I'd say it took about a month for processing and delivery.
