Is Amazon a qualified dealer to get this deal?

If I go into the Sony Style store, there is a deal where you get 300$ dollars back if you buy 2 accessories and a 2+ year warranty. If I CTO it, I basically will get it off Sonystyle shipped, with the benefits from instore. Does anyone know if I can still get this rebate deal if I get the 300$ back in store?

I'm pretty sure that the warranty deal is long dead. Others have reported no success anymore.

Many have gotten their rebate after purchasing from sonystyle.com

You can always try your luck. You have nothing to lose, have you? :) The worst situation is that you don't get this extra rebate, but if you do......

but the rebate site says 3/31.

if it doesnt work i guess the worse part is losing the big sticker on the side of the box, when you send in your upc

I think nystateofmind27 is referring to the "$300 back for buying 2 accessories and a 2+ year warranty" deal. nystateofmind27 is not referring to the rebate deal.

Indeed, the 300$ deal is still intact also (I'm talking about instore), as well as the 3/31 mail in rebate. :)

If this doesn't work, then I'll be missing out on the 10% discount.

So if I order at the Sonystyle.com website, I'll be guaranteed (?) 10% discount and a 3-400$ mail in rebate accessories package.

If I order at the store, I'll get the 300 dollar discount(w/ 2 year warrant and 2 accessories), if the mail in doesn't work I'll miss out on 10% discount.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone has tried this, please give your inputs if you have. :) Otherwise, I'll have to call in on Monday (A shame Sonystyle.com only has Mon-Fri customer services.)

The bigger question I'm wondering is how do other deals affect the accessories mail in package? If I bought it from the Sony store and they sent the CTO package to me, is there any reason or any way they can tell, that they would void the proof of purchase I have paid for?

For me, it's as useless as the extra standard battery given my usage (moving around the house with no external monitor on my desk), but the good thing of it is that the docking station won't die if I don't use but the standard battery will degrade even if I don't open the box. :p

I think the BT mouse trumps the case easily, though.

I agree. Quite a few people bought third party cases for their Vaio Zs too. I myself bought a WaterField sleeve & they are great.

Furthermore, the docking station can be quite convenient if you tend to plug in a lot of stuff into the USB ports on your Z as well as hook up to an external monitor through DVI. In this case, all you need to do is to dock the laptop, instead of plugging in all the stuff into the ports every time you're working on your "work" desk.

The docking station is useful depending on your usage... that's why there are two packages to choose from. ^_^

Me, I'll never go without a docking station again (pretty much a deal breaker if a system doesn't have the ability to mate with one).

Just to answer my own question, the rep said that the 300 dollar, 2 accessories and extended warranty rebate does not combine with the mobility/productivity rebate. The 10% combines with both though.

I mailed my form in over a week ago and the website still says 'claim not found'. I called and they said it takes 3 to 4 weeks just for the claim to be entered into the system. To those that tracked their claim, did it really take that long to show up in the system?

Hmm... I would, but I'd really prefer the mail-in bundle over the extended warranty package. If it was the other way around I would definitely try: mail-in bundle guaranteed and extended warranty questionable. But I would rather not take the extended warranty over the free package, especially since I have to pay for 2 accessories. I don't know... is the extended warranty worth it?

I would suggest that you go for the mail-in rebate & then buy the extended warranty through an authorized Sony reseller like Provantage. That will probably be the best bang for the buck IMO. Good luck. Looking forward to hearing that you've placed your order for you Vaio Z. :)

But I can't get $300 dollars back by doing that, can I? The thing is I don't want to pay for extended warranty lol. But if I get $300 dollars back, then it's a "sure why not," as long as I don't miss out on the mail in rebate package. I would take the latter as a guarantee over the former.

No, you only get the discount through sonystyle.com with the purchase of the warranty + two accessories and your notebook.

In your case, it's clear to me that if that is what is more important than you should skip the warranty deal and apply for the rebate package.

Yep. If Sony only allows you to choose either the mail-in rebate or the $300 back warranty deal & you kinda "want both," then you'll go with the mail-in rebate & just buy the extended warranty from Provantage because Provantage is selling the extended warranties "a lot" cheaper than Sony. This is something for you to consider if you do buy extended warranties for your laptop like I always do.

Of course, the choice is yours & yours alone. Good luck. :)

Right, the warranty and and accessory deal has to be consumated at the time of purchase but did you ask them if, after that, you will be ineligible for the rebate? If that's the case, I may be s.o.l. since I got the $300 deal. I prefer the warranty but the mobility bundle was to be my icing on the cake. :( I guess we'll see what happens.

I asked them if you get the $300 rebate deal, if we can still get the mail in as well, and they said no. It is either the $300 or the mail in. You feel the extra warranty is worth it?

I have never heard of this. How does this work? If there's a defect do you send it in to Sony? Where can I read more about this

Provantage is the site, you can get any of the normal Sony warranties for less. They are legit, no different than the ones being sold through SonyStyle - just less $, coming from an authorized dealer. Not exactly less when comparing to the $300 off, but far less than the 'normal' SonyStyle prices for the same warranty.

To give you an idea ... I can get the 4 year ADH from SonyStyle w/ the $300 off deal a+ two $23 (the cheapest) accessories for $246. Or I could buy the 4 year ADH warranty from Provantage and pay ~$300 shipped (they do charge shipping, otherwise ~$280, shipping may be less to other states of course).

Well with the warranty deal you actually end up making about $60 if you get the two cheapest accessories. In other words it "costs" you $60 NOT to get the deal so make sure you factor that into your decision.
As far as the rebate goes, I have no need for a 'Productivity Bundle' so I opted for the 'Mobility Bundle'. I really don't need the case or the a/c adapter. The one thing I was looking forward to was the extra battery so I could keep it in my backpack and never have to worry about running out of juice during the day.
That being said, I'll take an extra 2yrs. warranty over an extra battery any day. After 3 yrs, if my computer breaks down, well, it'll be about time for a new one anyway. :)

Search for sony warranty. And consider what you're looking at. The 4 year exp ship w/ ADH is $200 cheaper through Provantage than the $500 price from SonyStyle. And don't compare on site to exp ship plans, or non-ADH vs ADH when it comes to pricing - they're flat out different plans.

My thoughts on that is that I want the case, but I don't want the rest. So I figured I could resell the battery and adapter on eBay for a slightly reduced cost, maybe 150$ for the battery and 60$ for the adapter and that will net 210$. Thoughts?

hehe, well I'd be shocked if you could actually get both. But I may be having second thoughts now. First of all the 2 accessories might not sell (I question who would actually buy the ac adapter on their own and even an extra battery), and second, the shipping for both of those might cut into the cost a lot since laptop batteries are surely heavy. Then there's paypal fees, eBay fees, and the sum 12 weeks of waiting for the items to arrive (meaning 12 weeks without a case). Now that I'm done typing the cons, I'm starting to convince myself it's not worth it... I think I can also get 10% discount off the 2 accessories too, and -25$ on tax since the 10% is deducted after the $300 is subtracted from the total. So that adds even more in favor of the warranty package.

The bigger question is, does extended warranty cover maximum battery charge loss replacement? If it does then that pretty much settles it.

Plus, if you get the warranty deal you MIGHT get the mobility bundle anyway. However, if you choose the mobility bundle, that handcuffs you into not getting the warranty deal for sure.

BTW my rep was adamant I couldn't get BOTH the warranty deal AND the 10% student discount. But guess what I got...

Sony is moving really fast with their rebate processing. I mailed out the rebate forms on Jan 23rd, Sony received it on Jan 28th, it was approved on Feb, 16th, it shipped out via UPS on Feb 17th, and it's scheduled to arrive by Feb 23rd. In total, a little more than 1 month from submitting the rebate form to receiving the productivity bundle. Kudos to Sony!

I got an e-mail from b2b today saying that my form was incomplete. That I did not include a UPC or a receipt. I DID include the upc so I don't know what they're talking about there. However, I don't have a "receipt" per se as I bought this thing over the internet. How did you guys handle this? They were closed by the time I got the e-mail so I'll call em' tommorow. Pay attention markhedder, we could get our answer very quick here! :D

I have been waiting for my rebates to arrive and started reading your post. You're very lucky I have to say. To answer your question, your upc is the big sticker that's glue to the side of your box(you brought a CTO from sonystyle right?) that has all your specs. Your receipt is your order information. Just log onto sonystyle.com and look under order details...or something along those line. Print and you're done.

Oh crap, they were right then. I just cut the part with barcodes out and sent that. Know I have the sticker but no barcodes. I hope this dosn't cause a problem. Thanks for the info. I'll print the "receipt" and fire off the UPC sticker tommorow.
When you say I'm lucky, do you mean you think if they get this stuff then I'm golden?

More than likely, but don't take my word as facts. Sony doesn't seem to be too strict about their rebates. At first they told me (and everyone here if you read the first few pages of this thread) that sonystyle wasn't eligible, then that CTO weren't either. But looks like I'll be getting my extra battery hehe. Well good luck.

Given what you've described, it is most likely the receipt & not the UPC. Doesn't the UPC refer to the barcodes only? I mean... Now maybe I'm just stupid but I don't understand what use that part of the sticker that show the specs do to Sony? Can't Sony use those barcodes to pull out the specs of the laptop, since those barcodes (serial number, etc) are unique to each laptop?

Oops. I forgot something. There should also be a single "barcode" somewhere inside your box, usually around the flaps of the box. It's 12:30AM over here and I don't know why I'm still online. Hope you get this in time so you don't have to waste another stamp.
