After a reboot run the symcmos -v2 -ltest.txt again and check the register.

Does SecurAble says it's "locked on" or "locked off"? 'Cause "locked on" is the status you just want to see...

Hi Everyone - You can add VGN-FZ480 to the list of working VT enabled computers.
The Bios is R2110J7 and the 02CD address as in some of the others to change.

Very nice post with a ton of informative information. I really appreciate the fact that you approach these topics from a stand point of knowledge and information
instead of the typical “I think” mentality that you see so much on the internet these days.

That is sort of a hallmark of the forums here on NBR. There are lots of well informed folks here and a bunch of less experienced folks with that same attitude, approach the problem with information. When you do see the "I think" response or the "canned" response pop up it is usually challenged and INFORMATION to back it up is requested. Unfortunately, there are a few folks who take umbrage when asked for proof, but thankfully those are rare and most understand that the proof provides solid documentation for others that follow.

Please, can someone tell me the registry entry needed to enable AHCI.
I've read all the forum's threads, topics etc. and honestly, I couldn't find anything related to it. All are talking about the VT support, but no one said anything about AHCI registries. And all the topics are for both VT and AHCI.
I will be very grateful, and appreciate your help.

    Model name: FZ21E
    BIOS version:R1120J7
    VT enable: 02CD
    AHCI enable: ?

But prior to the reboot if you dump the registers to a text file, it DOES show that the change has been made?

To be honest there has been very little discussion or interest in the AHCI aspect. I am afraid you are pretty much on your own with that.

If I had it, it would be on the list. You can determine the BIOS version number yourself. Just go into the BIOS (F2 durring boo up) and look for the version number. If you find a similar CR model on the list with the EXACT same BIOS, you should be good to go.

    - Any idea if this can this be done on Dell Inspiron? Something like 9400/E1705?
Is this only about trial and error?

    Thanks!

After modifying some/one CMOS registry, is there any way to quickly test if AHCI is active beside booting the actual OS and waiting for the BSOD?
Is there some guide for looking up addresses? Thanks again!

did you enable VT when using windows 7 or vista?

There were threads saying that it is dangerous to flash the bios when using windows 7.

One thing. I enabled VT for virtual pc windows 7 and my virtual pc was slow this was because i found an options that needs to be put into the C:\Users\sbosman\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\options.xml file: Under the tag <virtual_machines> put <enable_idle_thread type="boolean">true</enable_idle_thread>. That solved my problem with when the virtual pc is in idle state it takes the full processor load.

Please delete you post. Having TWO copies of the list will make it much more difficult for folks to find it, not easier. Google will add your copy to their search engine, but it will always point to an old un-updated copy. I can ONLY update the one I created, and changes I make will NOT be reflected in your copy.

I realize you were trying to help, but trust me it won't. I have no way to make the message a sticky. A thread can be made a sticky, but not an individual message. I believe that the first message in the thread DOES have a link to my message where I maintain the list. (I had one of the moderators do that some time ago.) My message by itself is not sufficeint, folks need the FIRST message in this thread for the instructions, my message just provides the list of register numbers.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Sry for that I edited the post and removed the list! I know an individual message cannot be made sticky that's why I suggested moving the POST to it's own sticky THREAD which has both the first message and your message in the first post which will make it much easier to find!

I'm taking myself as an example, eventhough the first message in the thread does have a link to your message, when I saw Napa/Santa Rosa SZ in the message, I assumed it's just for that so I never got to the point where I saw the link to your message and I ignored it until someone else from another forum gave me the link!

    Anyways, just a suggestion!

You make a good point. I have had a moderator edit that first message before let me see if I can get one to do so again and change it so it is more obvious that the thread DOES apply to a lot more models than just the SZ.

Thanks that's much better but I still have 3 more suggestions if possible:

1- Remove "Napa/Santa Rosa platform" from the title because it is still misleading.

2- Add this line to the 4th paragraph after ...or R0122S5 for Santa Rosa SZs, for other models, check Gary's master list.

3- In step 5, add this line in Bold and Underlined:

    For other models

Check Gary's master list that contains the code for other models with a Phoenix BIOS.

    Thanks
