You need to unpack the RAR file onto the USB drive, not copy the RAR file there. The RAR file is a compressed archive of several files needed for this operation.

Thanks Gary for replying promptly. How do I unpack the RAR file into USB flash? If you mean unzipping the RAR file,I have already tried that and it did not work.I extracted the files from RAR in the USB flash using WinZip and then tried to boot but it did not work.I got the same "Bad Command or file name" message. If you mean something different, could you provide me with instructions or the link where I can find them?
vr35 -
Okay,I figured it out at the end. When you extract the VTPATCH.RAR directly into a DOS bootable USB flash using WinZip,a folder (with an open folder icon) is created in the drive that contains the following 7 files:
README.TXT
PATCH.BAT
AFUDOS.EXE
DMIDUMP.EXE
DOS4GW.EXE
VTPATCH.EXE
ARCHIVE.MD5
If you boot and try to run the PATCH.BAT command, you get "Bad Command or file name" message.I copied the above 7 files directly into the USB flash and deleted the folder containing these files. When I booted again and tried to run the PATCH.BAT command,Viola! it worked. My Bios was flashed without any problem and VT is enabled.I was able to install the XP in virtual mode.I hope this experience of mine helps someone.
My special thanks to Mr.Levicki for his brilliant work. Many thanks to Gary and many others in the thread without whose contributions,I would not have dared to attempt it on my new laptop.
I wonder why Sony has deliberately disabled such an useful feature in its notebooks.Enabling VT lets you run Windows XP dating back to 2001 and the current Vaios are reasonably future proof meaning we can run Vista/Windows 7 for at least another 5 years,if not longer. Thus the productive life of the notebook is considerably lengthened and consumers will not buy another VAIO for a long time, especially given the solid build of VAIO notebooks. This must be the ulterior motive for Sony not enabling VT in their laptops. This must have tacit approval from third party software vendors too, as they want their new products to be sold!
Anyway,we got what we paid for thanks to Mr.Levicki, though not from Sony!!! -
My thanks go to wzzrd for sending me a nice USB flash drive as a token of appreciation for my BIOS hacking effort.

thank you levicki, I succesfully unlock the future (FW-31ZJ)
Thank man again you are great

Would like to ask, Is it also possile to recover my bios to orginal bios at later time and If Sony relase any bios update, will l be update my bios with success. -
I am pretty sure the answer might be a no, but it wont hurt to ask. Since it is kind of hard to do a search and I only read the first 2-3 pages. Is there support/is it working on the Vaio TT? Cause I know the TT has it disabled since a few machines that have the same cpu, like the Toshiba R600, have it enabled. Thank you.
-
i got sony vaio aw290
can i do this and how please ? -
@CruC:
You can update the BIOS without problems but you will again lose VT until you patch the updated BIOS.
@kinu2000:
I think you can. Please find the instructions in the README.TXT and in this thread if you need more details.
@all:
For everyone who has been asking me about VAIO Z, here is the solution for you:

@coldmack:
The above link seems to be working for TT also. -
thank you...

I was wondering if anyone has tried the patch on the SR 490 since I have it coming in the mail just curious if this patch works since I want to use VT?

It works on a VGN-AW31M/H thats a uk vaio model number
bios version R2030Y2 -
Hi Guys
a big thanks to levicki !!
I patched my VGN-FW41ZJ/H with bios R3100Y0 successfully -
has anyone tried this on a FW490 CTO?
-
Well, here's hoping that I am doing something wrong.
I have a VGN-FW351J, that uses the AMI-Aptio BIOS.
BIOS Version is R2050Y0.
This is a T6400 processor at 2 GHZ.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.
I created a Win98 DOS bootable flash drive, and placed the VTPATCH 1.1 files on the drive. I reboot into the DOS prompt, and ran the PATCH.BAT file.
I get the message, "Intel VT not supported on this CPU"
Does that mean I am screwed, or am I doing something wrong? -
Hi levicki, where do I send $10 for the most excellent patch that just made my day? Seriously.
Borek -
vgn-cr31s also supported? i don't get my flash drive working dosbootable.
-
Does your laptop have a AMI Aptio BIOS? If not then it will not work for you.
-
-
It will tell you when you boot up, I think you have a Phoenix BIOS. You can also press F2 when you boot up also. There is a thread for people with a Phoenix BIOS.
-
-
my FW490 has AMI Aptio BIOS version R3100Y0.
will it work? -
-
My BIOS Version = R0250Y0
Notebook = Sony VAIO VGN-FW190E T9400
Success!!!
Millions of Thanks -
-
Sorry, not gonna be the 1st one to try it on this model.
I'll wait for a BIOS update from Sony once Windows 7 comes out officially in October. -
I was able to see the VT enable thing on my BIOS after I update it yesterday.
I have the SR430.
Is that right? -
Patch works on my VGN-FW41M! Thanks levicki!
-
another R3100Y0 is VT enabled!
Levicki, u r an animal. -
Hi guys and congratz to Levicki for the patch,
I'm quite a noob that's why Im' a bit affraid before patching on my VGN AW11Z.
I've read the readme file and I'm worried about the Sony Notebook Utilities beacause I couldn't uninstall them completely, neither CC Cleaner (attached file).
My question is : is it risky to keep these programms before patching? If not, how could I uninstall them?
Thanks in advance.Attached Files:

... ok, I hope I've correctly unisntall the Sony Notebook Utilities buy errase register's keys, hum sounds bad.
I dare to patch my AW11Z with Aptio AMI version R1052Y2.
What I've done :
1. complete saves
2. USB Key bootable
3. no bios upgrade by Sony
4. read carrefully the readme file
5. load defaults settings in the bios, change the boot sequence to enabled external device
But to be sure, could someone explain to me one more time the sequence with the AC adapter my english a bit poor.
* run the notebook off the AC adapter = I must run the vaio only on battery?
* disconnect the AC adapter (do not close the lid or press power button) = how could I disconect it if it's not connect before?
Last one :
Does the patch do the work automaticaly, I mean the only command I will type is AFUDOS ORIGINAL.ROM /P /B /N /E? (cause I'm not a DOS expert)
Sorry to ask really basic explications and for my bad english, but I would'nt have to wait the Sony patch so long, probably in October.
Hope an answer please. -
Sorry for the 3 posts in a row but it's a success. Thank you so much Levicki, you roxx. Just dare and it works!
-
I just successfully flashed my new FW465J/H with the R3100y0 BIOS!!
Levicki is a GOD! I would gladly send him $100 for his work, if a) I could find a way to get it to him and b) I realize he is the King of Serbia so he probably wouldn't accept it.
Woo hoo! Man, this is just wonderful!!
Now if I could get that darned webcam to work under Vista Ultimate x64 or Win7 Ultimate x64... -
Anyone, who successfully patched their bios, please answer.
Should I patch BIOS running on battery or AC power? Or does it matter? -
Patch with the notebook running off of your AC adapter.
After patching, unplug the AC adapter, then remove the battery for a minute or less.
Then replace the battery, plug in the AC and reboot.
Running off of the AC during patching just removes the risk of uneven power fluctuation or power loss. -

Maybe instead of pointing out that I didn't clarify that statement for readers, you could clarify it yourself. -

Maybe you can't be responsible for every person that doesn't speak English, but if you stay around here very long, you'll find that we have a LOT of folks here who's first language isn't English. Some of us here try to help to make sure that they too can not only benefit from the threads but they can also contribute to the discussions. They don't take offense when someone helps them craft their words so EVERYONE can understand a given point. So why should you?
Gary -
Have anyone cracked version R3200Y1 successfully?
-
-
you should test it on your model instead of waiting for someone else to try it first...

This is a perfect "case-in-point" as to what I was talking about.

I'm using sony vaio SR13GN with Win7 Pro 64bit with all sony utilities installed.
I'm using VMware too, does that mean that if i enabled VT, i can install 64bit guest system instead of 32bit only?
BIOS Version: R0300Y1
I wanna enabled my VT so am i in the correct steps?
1. Setup a bootable USB stick
2. Copy those VTPatch files into the thumbdrives.
3. Applied the patch according to your guide. -
Hi Levicki,
thanks for the patch - worked great on my VGN-SR26GN.
MadPAM -
Also just flashed a VGN-SR19VN successfully -thanks a ton!
-
-
Confirmed working on Vaio SR29VN bought in the UK with bios version 1.23.1109.
offset found by VTPatch.exe was 001D5A32.
Thanks go to levicki for helping me make my laptop how it should have been from purchase. I will think twice before buying Sony again and assuming that advertised parts (P8600 processor) have not been crippled!

Does anybody know if patching using this method will create problems with applying new BIOS updates from Sony? It appears here: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/pa...-executive-weighs-in-on-win7.aspx?PageIndex=3 that Sony will open up VT in the near future. I don't want to patch now with this and then be locked out of future supported upgrades.
