so after a couple days of experiments I can summarize that no driver works in win 8 for me longer than 1 day of hard use.. then the screen start blinking and I see generic video card in device manager.. now the last chance.. 285.62 with your patch ver.2

 

What directory is your the flashz1.exe file in?

Still can't install the graphics driver on windows 8.
What I am doing:
reboot with the static vga mode.
Install the patched driver.
Everything is going fine, but after rebooting there is an error on the point of graphic driver.
Do you have any ideas? Works only default hybrid driver.

Is that possible that by installing the new nVidia driver the modification to the registry in order to have the automatic brightness with the Intel video has disappeared?

UPDATE: Downloaded, modified using Cowboy's method/tool in the first post (thank you!), and installed. The 301.42 driver is working great here. Happily, this new driver has fixed the "green bar" color issue with flash video that I was having with 285.38b.

Yea no problem. Both hacks should continue to work... the VGA hack looks for a specific line of code in a specific file. The 3DVision hack searches for a pattern across all files and replaces whatever it finds. It is good to know that the VGA hack works because that is the one that is most likely to break if NVIDIA decides to change something.

1. downloaded Unetbootin (from your FreeDos link)
2. Downloaded Freedos 1.1
3. Used Unetbootin to load Freedos 1.1 onto USB stick
4. Says to reboot to complete install

I'm trying to install the 296.17 drivers onto Consumer Preview of Win8 (I can't use Release Preview atm for various reasons including no Direct Access support in the build as it was made from "Professional" SKU instead of "Ultimate" SKU. gutted).

I have run the patcher on it using 3DVision mode and while it detects the hardware and starts the installation, it then fails to install the graphics driver.

Any suggestions? I see you have an earlier version installed and working in Win8 Developer Preview around last Nov - is there a magic rune I need to use?

Look up 302.71 driver, it should work with Windows 8 and might be even WHQL.

 

ok - still having problems

I am happy the BIOS is corrected hacked, I have all the options and I have set the VGA setting to STATIC.
However when trying to install the drivers in Windows I can get it to correctly identify the card and get past the hardware check, but it just fails about 15sec into the install saying "Driver Installation = Failed".

I have tried the following driverss:

285.38 (Pre modded by Cowboy on Page1 of this thread)
296.17 (Downloaded from Nvidia and used Cowboy's Patcher on it)
302.71 (Downloaded from LaptopVideo2Go using their modified .inf)

All give the same result:



I'm clearly missing something here, as the stock Sony ones install just fine (but they run terribly...)

EDIT - I have tried all combinations of driver/PhysX/3D selections, it always does the main driver first and always fails on that.

EDIT2 - Same results on both Win8 Consumer Preview and Win8 Release Preview.

 

You must disable the driver signature enforcement in Win 8, from the advanced start up options to install the modded drivers.

just to inform that I've test on my z12 the eGPU system and the hacked driver for 330M. All is working fine.

Both GPU (330m + GTX560Ti) working together and now I can connect 3 monitors (DVI with VPC-Z docking station + HDMI DVI on GTX560Ti)

With hacked BIOS/drivers, is the ambient light sensor still supposed to be able to dim the screen? My keyboard backlight comes on, but brightness of the screen doesn't seem to be adjusted even though it is set to.

In Speed Mode it's impossible. The ambient light sensor is handled by the Intel Graphics driver, and then passed on to the nVidia driver. Doesn't work with static graphics as the Intel driver isn't always loaded in the background as it is in hybrid mode.

 

Do you think ComputerCowboy will be able to fix the brightness issues concerning the 301.42 drivers? They work so well, but this problem is quite problematic.

Which of the latest drivers have no issues with the brightness setting?

 

Why is that when I revert back to stamina mode (via restarting), I'm unable to generate 1080p display? Normally, switching to Stamina mode didn't take away such features. Does anyone know why?

I'm not using static switching at the moment, but if I recall correctly I didn't have to do anything special to get the Intel graphics drivers working.

I'm just using the default (ancient) Sony drivers. I don't game and I like to be able to switch graphics cards without restarting.

 

This is the error I get when trying to install the Intel Drivers:

"The setup program failed to install one or more device drivers. Setup will exit".

I am doing this via Stamina mode. I'm kinda confused.

And one final question, is there anything else I need to install? My SPEED mode works great with the new Nvidia drivers, and so does Stamina mode with the Intel drivers.

If I recall correctly that is what mine looked like. An error would be an error message. It is normal to see all the bytes and hex code stuff.

 

Flash worked fine. Running 302 version drivers in Windows 8. Very stable and fast. Running 640/750, 3dmark06 hits 7299

 

So my patch still works with the latest drivers?

 

I downloaded the latest drivers, ran your patch program and it installed just fine.

VGA Patch. I don't use my VGA port so maybe I should have done 3D...

I'm trying to install the NVIDIA driver on my Z13 (with 330m and Intel graphics) but everytime it stops during the install of the display driver. I patched my BIOS, I patched all my NVIDIA installers files, I tried a lot of versions (285, 296, 302, 304) but it doesn't work. Somebody knows what should I do please?

Hi, I also have just done the Bios Hack and patched the latest NVIDIA Windows 8 Drivers with the Patch Tool and 3D Option. All went fine. Thx a lot. My Z13 is running perfectly with these Drivers in SPEED Mode. I think you missed the part with installing the patched Drivers in the Windows 8 Advanced Mode. You can choose in the Systems Settings. When starting in Advanced mode you can select to install Drivers in unsigned mode. Then u are able to install the patched Drivers manually within the device Manager. Good luck. BTW: Is there a possibility to change in Bios back to Dynamic mode and use INTEL and NVIDIA in Dynamic / Auto Mode again? Thx.

 

It worked!! Thank you! I was stupid to not try to turn off the driver signature, I already had to do it for my sound card...

So for those who are on Windows 8 and have a problem during the driver install : don't forget to reboot in advanced mode to turn off the driver signature verification.
