Hi Anytimer
So this is a list of the files in the USB root directory:
FLASHBIOS.EXE
Hacked.rom
menu.c32
Original.ROM
syslinux.cfg
ubninit
ubnkern
I tried (without the quotations and hyphen):
"flash-it backup.rom /g"
"flash-it original.rom /g"
"flash-it backup.rom/g"
"flash-it original.rom/g"
It is still saying it is a bad command.
I'm sorry for the trouble, but is there something I'm doing wrong?

What is the name of the exe file in the folder? Your command has to operate on that file.
Just saw the list of files. Use flashbios.Attached Files:

hi I could not find a working link to Andrew08's Nvidia 263.08-Intel 2020 Driver.
Please upload a new link.
thank you -
The backup works fine. When I execute the hack command the following error comes up:
Error: IHISI 15H fail. Internal Error 20 FFC00000
FBTS permission is denied by user. -
Are you by any chance running this in Windows? The instructions for flashing the BIOS specifically say that this has to be run from a pen drive after booting from it. No Windows. Just FreeDOS.
-
I reboot from my USB using FreeDOS.
Any other thoughts? -
Anyone tested windows 10 on VGN-Z46GD? Graphic Driver works fine on Windows 8.1.

What is your current BIOS version? If you haven't already done so, update to the latest R3031C3 available here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model...te_id=1®ion_id=1&tab=download#/downloadTab
Good idea to set BIOS defaults before trying the hack. Remember to take a fresh backup after you've done this.
This thread is mainly for people who haven't hacked their BIOS. You'll get better support here:

ComputerCowboy is the go-to guy for this. He's not available every day, so ask your question and wait until he shows up. -
Does anyone have a working link to
263.08 - 2020 64bit signed for VGN-Z?
Maybe you could upload it somewhere?
Your help will be much appreciated! -

Any way to get this working on Win 10? -
I couldn't find so back to 8.1 ...

Wait for the RTM version - I think it has just been revealed which version is going to be the RTM version - build 10240 I think - and then we can start trying to get our drivers to work. Not much use trying before that because you would have to do it all over again when the final build came out.
-
Including stamina/speed switch or just the intel card?
It would be great. It is still such a capable laptop for many tasks. And it doesn't look/feel old at all. -
Yes, switch works! Annoyingly Windows update installs a newer Intel driver, breaking the hybrid. I rolled back the driver update and prevented any further updates with help from: http://hmemcpy.com/2015/04/preventing-a-certain-windows-update-from-installing-on-windows-10/
-
Do you have a VGN or a newer VPC Z? I have tried every trick I know to get it working. But it doesn't.
-
I am generally happy with being able to switch between my GPUs without rebooting but have any of you guys tested how much better (the nvidia card especially maybe) does on static and with the newest driver in terms of performance and bugs? I mean, damn, this nvidia driver (263.14) is near 5 years old o_o... One thing I notice is that in Word 2010, I cannot select/mark text.. weird little bugs
-
Apart from everything just feeling much better, I can tell you that installing the latest drivers (patched) for the NVIDIA notched my WEI score up by a decimal point, and added support for some new features/games (see the bios hacking thread for details). For me the most noticeable improvement was in stamina mode with the Intel card. With the hybrid driver I was getting HTML5 video glitches and some program incompatibility problems, but it runs so smoothly now. I have to say I'm personally happier than ever with my VAIO since doing the hack.

I'm trying to install Sony driver on my vgn-z46 windows 10 but it keep saying "The system has not been modified.try later"
I tried to install Andrew08's driver but it failed. I finely Installed it in test mode bot nothing happened.
I also tried Nautis driver in regular and test mode but nothing happened.
I'll appreciate if someone could explain how to install driver.
I'm on VGN-z46 (9300M GS + Intel 4500) windows 10 insider preview build 10131. -
I still haven’t found a way to install the hybrid driver along with some drivers from Sony support on my VGN-Z890 using various builds of W10 including the latest RTM 10240.
I guess no solution yet.haen7 likes this. -
This is how I used to do it on older OSs - hope it still works on Windows 10.
1. Download Andrew08's driver for your model and OS (32 bit or 64 bit).
2. Download a driver cleaner utility. I used Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D.com
3. Enable test mode/ disable driver signature enforcement. Google how.
4. Uninstall existing drivers in SPEED mode so that you have two Microsoft Basic Adapters showing in device manager, one of them with a problem. It may be necessary to select Microsoft Basic Adapter manually in the update driver dialog.
5. Run the driver cleaner to get rid of any traces of the previous drivers.
6. It might be necessary to disconnect from the internet to keep Windows from giving you a driver for your display adapters.
7. Install the driver downloaded in 1. Install anyway when prompted about unsigned driver.
8. If the display goes black during install, just wait until the HDD light goes out, then press ENTER and reboot.haen7 likes this. -
I installed exactly as you explained but windows 10 seems different.
cleaned - enabled test mode - installed Andrew08's x64 driver.
after reboot. it's NOT WORKING.
*all other drivers works fine. -
Try messing around with the dseo.exe tool (driver signature enforcement overrider).

Finally Got it to work.
I Install the latest release of windows 10 downloaded from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
I create a backup from official Sony Driver with Driver Genius on Windows 8.1
Remove Microsoft Driver With Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D.com
Install driver by "have disk" on windows 10.
Speed/Stamina Switch in working fine.
all Drivers are fully working.
the only problem is that I can not change brightness level on Speed mode.anytimer likes this. -
I have got the old driver version (09/16/2009, 8.16.11.8735) working, with the Speed/Stamina switch going, but as above, no Brightness level changes on Speed (either hardware keys, or notification centre). I had to extract the drivers out of the Sony (NVDVID-00208041-764.EXE) file, as the install program was not working. I am running a Z26GN with a Z21 mainboard and CPU.
I was previously running W8.1 with the old driver version as well.
There does seem to be an issue with W10 requiring signed drivers to work in non test mode, which is an issue for the Andrew08 driver. If installed, the drivers will work fine when W10 is set to Test mode ON, but turning Test mode OFF will mean Windows will only boot with the basic windows drivers.
As much as I'd like a newer version of the graphics driver, I mostly use this for 2D work, rather than games these days. I'm just happy I have the correct screen resolution and a working W10 on the -
Now that the driver is installed, can you reinstall it the regular way, by running setup from the driver folder extracted from the file Andrew08 posted?
When you install using the 'have disk' option, not everything gets installed. -
this is the driver I used in windows 8.1.
Andrew08 Driver Works fine in test mode. dseo.exe tool may fix the driver signing Issue.
Also brightness Issue is fixed but I don't know How.
seems it fixed after a few times reboot or sleep!!
I tried to reinstall by running setup (both Andrew08 and Sony) but failed.
I can say that everything is fully installed and works fine like installing by Setup. "NVIDIA drivers" added to Programs and Features so I can uninstall in the regular way.Last edited: Jul 30, 2015krislaw likes this. -
Tried the DSEO tool over the .sys file for Andrew08, but still not coming up as verified. I'm going to leave it for the time being.haen7 likes this.

There is an official Windows 10 driver from Nvidia for 9300m - 341.74 dated July 29th.
Maybe it can somehow be placed into the installation package?haen7 likes this. -
Did a fresh W10 install and managed to install original Sony driver as you did by unpacking and manually installing through device manager. Brightness doesn’t work in speed mode.
I also noticed that fonts in Edge and in OS look a little bit blurred although scaling is off and set to 100%. After booting to W7 I noticed a much crisper fronts. Not sure if it is related to video drivers or not.galaxyge likes this. -
I have a vpcz138gg running Andrew's 26314 since 2011. I cant install windows 10 due to geforce 330m not supported. Can anybody teach me how?
-
Yeah, I have got a same problem. A lot of us are in the same situation so there are some nice people working on fixing it... http://terenzioberni.blogspot.cz/2015/06/windows-10-on-sony-vaio-vgn-z-650nb.html

At this stage, based on my VGN-Z experience, you would need to install with the originally provided Sony graphics drivers, as the community source drivers are not signed, and therefore won't be loaded by Windows 10. Obviously, there aren't likely to be any new drivers being released, given that one, the notebooks are 4-6 years old, Sony doesn't make/own Vaios anymore, and the new Vaio probably aren't interested in supporting anything else that isn't their own (or outside of Japan at this time).
The most recent driver's notes on nvidia.com state the following Exceptions:
- Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology are not supported (NVIDIA Optimus technology is supported).
- The following Sony VAIO notebooks are included in the Verde notebook program: Sony VAIO F Series with NVIDIA GeForce 310M, GeForce GT 330M, GeForce GT 425M, GeForce GT 520M or GeForce GT 540M. Other Sony VAIO notebooks are not included (please contact Sony for driver support).
- Fujitsu notebooks are not included (Fujitsu Siemens notebooks are included).

Also looking for a copy of Nvidia 26314 - Intel 2266 (64 bit) Andrew08, please.
Existing links are all dead. -
You have the option to use the media creation tool from MS to upgrade (just search it). I did this once to have my Win10 activated and then proceeded to a clean install.
If the compatibility checker refuses to give a go-ahead try to trick it by activating the Intel HD graphics instead of the NVidia one. -
The mega link is working now.

I have an old VAIO VGN-Z48GD which running Windows 8.1 without any problem.
I'd like to upgrade to Windows 10 which seem much more better than 8.1, but the upgrade adviser refuse to do so due to the 9300ms driver
Glad to know haen7 successfully install Windows 10. Can you provide detail procedure to successful clean install windows 10 on this "Previous TOP Machine".
-
I can not activate clean installed windows 10. so i update my already activated windows 8.1 to 10.
i used media creation tool to download Windows 10 ISO.then mount iso file and simply run setup.exe.
for Nvidia driver:
Extract the latest official driver from sony. (NVDVID-00208041-764.EXE)
install Driver using Device Manager and Have disk option.
for other drivers just install official from sony.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015 -
Thank haen7
You mean for installing Windows 10 via upgrage method, use "SATIMA" mode during setup, then install the official SONY Nvidia display driver?
Will it cause any problem on lighting control on "SPEED" / "SATIMA" mode? -
as i recalled you can only install my modded driver once in windows 10 after you uninstall you won't be able to install it anymore like windows 8?
i don't like this driver on windows 8 or 10, i lost all the nvidia power, even photoshop doesn't like it.
i moved to bios hack community, i have windows 10 perfectly running, nvidia 100% working(not optimus), brightness adjustable, full power.
there are 2 type of brightness control issue,
1. brightness control by fn+f5/fn+f6 does not work, but brightness from notification work.
2. fn combination and notification does not work.
note: I do have a workaround for the first one not elegant but working.
and yes those looking to get newer driver from me, it is not i don't want to make new driver, i can't make anymore, not even alienware r11x, dell vostro 3700, lenovo updated their driver, so yeah we are stuck being unable to update our driver. -
I am pretty sure that I did an uninstall and reinstall on your driver Andrew08. I did it on my first attempts to install Win10. IIRC I uninstalled in safe mode.
Off-topic: Thanks for your hard work and time spent to build this driver Andrew08. I use it on Win10 (version Nvidia 26314 - Intel 2266) and I have the switchable graphics without any issues. Currently I am considering the BIOS hack... -
Hi all,
Thanks for this wonderful. I've a Dell Latitude laptop that I use for work. It's a heavy laptop so I decided to install Windows 10 on my beloved VAIO-Z (I previously installed Linux on this laptop) which is still very light even by today's standards.
Found that this laptop still runs really fast for daily use despite it's age. Now with the graphics headache...
Edit:
Below is what I did to get rid of all issues. Function keys now work fine (including brightness) and the Graphics switch work great!Last edited: Oct 4, 2015haen7 likes this. -
Here's what I did:
1. Graphics Driver
- Put notebook to SPEED mode
- Install Andrew08 custom driver: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35043569/26308 2020 101112.rar

6. Sony Programmable Input/Output Controller (SPIC) Driver
7. Sony Firmware Extension Parser (SFEP Driver)
8. Sony Shared Library
9. Setting Utility Series
10. VAIO Event Service
11. VAIO Control Center
12. Battery Checker
13. VAIO Power Management
14. VAIO Location Utility
Use Microsoft drivers for the following:
Wireless LAN Driver (newer than Sony's)
Ethernet Driver (newer than Sony's)
Bluetooth Driver - 10/18/2013 v12.0.0.8047
TPM Infineon - Official Sony driver fails to install
Fingerprint Driver 8/8/2012 1.6.1.341
Skip the following:
Protect Suite QL (not working)
VAIO Launcher (bloat)
VAIO Update (not working properly)

Hi guys,
i've a problem. I've a VGN-Z11 laptop and my stamina/speed switch is broken.
Last state of that switch was stamina, so I can't change anymore to speed mode .
Is there a method to resolve this issue? How can I force speed mode?
Thanks to anyone can help me.

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_06E5&SUBSYS_9025104D

I need a mod for driver version 358.50 so that I can install on windows 10 64bit
Many thanks -
To Chemist20, and anyone interested.
After numerous trial and error attempts, and just shortly before starting the BIOS Hack...
I solved the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (and most other issues around it) on my VAIO VGN-Z58GG, as follows.
Note that I don't use graphic intensive games so for me the original Sony driver has been sufficient.
To clean uninstall the corpses,
1. Run the official uninstaller of the NVIDIA driver
2. Reboot to Safe Mode.
3. Run Guru3D Driver Sweeper to clean deinstall NVIDIA any remainings
4. Disconnect from LAN and WLAN
5. Reboot.
To install,
5. Run Original SONY NVIDIA driver .exe in Win7 compatibility mode (it didnt really do anything except extract the setup files)
6. Find the Display Driver INF file in the folder where it extracted to
(C:\Users\<profile>\AppData\Local\Temp\Drivers\NVMVSZ.INF in my case)
7. Right click it and select Install.
8. Hit "Install this Driver Anyway" when Windows complains it can't verify the publisher.
9. Bit later the display flickered and went black - then wait till the installation complete message appears.
10. Reboot.
This was tried both in STAMINA and SPEED mode.
Other thing I did is disabling Windows Fast Startup, but not sure if its needed.
I hope this may help anybody fighting similar issues.
I have HDMI, Hibernation and STAMINA/SPEED Mode Switch working (only during reboot), whereas Brightness can only be adjusted in STAMINA mode.
Cheers and Good Luck, guys.Last edited: Dec 12, 2015chemist20 likes this. -
