hi all. hope someone can help me confirm the fuse for back light in a PCG-71911M vpceh3b1e.

ive taken out the board, took some photo's. its a mbx-247 mobo. i have suspicions its F4 labeled 'h' very close to the connector, but would like conformation before i attack.

a link to a replacment fuse would be nice if you have one, but i am fine with just bridging it.

Hi guys, i just saw this forum and it seems that people know what they talking about here ;).
Anyway i have VAIO VGN-AW11Z/ Laptop, and i just bought a new display screen, because the old stock one has no display (Black).

i just thought that i will replace the screen and it will work, but i thought wrong maybe :(.

anyway when i connect another external screen from VGA connector, its work great, otherwise when connect the new screen that i bought, the same results like the old one (Black screen).
NOTICE: If i check in right click on deskstop >> "Screen and Resolution" >> he give me two choices "PnP Generic screen 1920x1080" and the external screen which i connect. 22" wide screen samsung 1680x1050.
i think its like old posts here, fuse problem.

if anyone can help me more specificity to find the problem and need some hi-res pictures from the board, just let me know.

    Thank you very much Appreciate.

SVF15N190X here (flip 15). A shop attempted to replace a cracked screen and got a black panel. They assumed the panel was bad and didn't charge me for the repair because they could not locate another screen. I found one on ebay and installed it (destroying their panel in the process, dangit) and it's still black. There are four fuses I've found, including the most likely candidate next to the display connector, but all read short (good) on my ohmmeter. Any fallback position for dark screens? It's def. LED, and the screen is def working except for the backlight. If I solve it I'll post back, but if someone else has gone to a "next step", feel free to post.

    thanks!

Older reference post, but I think I have found the "N" chip for the fuse needed to fix a dim LED display. Can someone please confirm I have correct chip to test for Vaio SVE14A16FGH?

    Hello,
I have this SVE151E11M and yesterday, when I turned the brightness to the max the display turned black and remained that way. On hdmi works perfectly and if I put a flashlight on it everything is ok but no backlight.

I disassembled the laptop and measured the fuses, on continuity all indicate 0 and beeeep, so I think the fuses are ok.

    The mainboard modelname is mbx-269.

I posted the photos and I am waiting for advice.

    Thank you!

I have a Sony Vail SVE1511BGXS. I'm not finding an F2 fuse. I've found F1 (on the back of the mb) with TN on the top of it and an F5 fuse also with TN on top of it (on the front of the mb). Am I just missing it or is one of these the offending fuse that has dimmed my backlight?

    Hi,

I've been given a Sony laptop, VPCEB4C5E (Model PCG-71211M) where the battery was left in whilst screen was replaced; suspected blown fuse.

I think I've located the blown fuse but was hoping you could help confirm?

    Many thanks!

I must say that this forum and this particular post have been a great find. Having already sent 1 replacement screen back and parcelling the 2nd up to go back tomorrow, I thought I'd try 1 last Google search :)
I have a Sony Vaio VPCEA4S1E (PCG-61211M) with the same problem. New screen in, display like you're watching it through a pair of dark sunglasses.
Fairly confident that this will be a fuse issue. If I post up mobo images, could someone please identify which component is at fault?
Also as a complete novice, what do I need to do to fix it? Solder a wire across it or something else?

    ***UPDATE***
OK I found a video on YouTube (even though it's up incorrectly as PCG-6121M). It identifies the fuse as F15.
I've dismantled the laptop and solder blobbed the fuse. Trying to get a micro fuse is as rare as hens teeth. I had no alternative. Anyway the screen now works.
However... having solder blobbed on the motherboard, is the laptop now a fire risk?

It will be something labelled "F" (5 or 15) near to where the display cable is connected to the board. I don't see anything for this model on the web so it's a shot in the dark.

Thanks WMCM76. There does not seem to be much info about the Duo 11 available. The only devices with anything labeled on them have the letter "T". I've checked them and if they are fuses they appear to test ok. Unfortunately the PCB doesn't seem to have anything to provide guidance either.
My next line of thought was to try to figure out the pinouts of the LVDS and see if I could trace the backlight power back on the board. Possibly impossible if they are a multi-layer board. Don't know.

Mine was a multilayer board and the fuse was on the underside. I put a voltmeter on either side to check continuity before doing anything. I was also lucky enough to stumble on a YouTube video for my precise model that told me exactly what F number I was looking for.
The one thing they all share in common seems to be that they're all located near to the monitor connector on the board.
I wasn't able to get a fuse to replace mine. Instead I tinned a fine piece of copper wire and soldered it on top. It's not ideal, but will still blow before setting fire to the house :)

I have this issue with a VPCSA390X. I tried using a continuity tester on it and it is good, however there are three components on the top that aren't giving me anything. On the opposite side of the dip switch/video connector they still have continuity. They don't look like the the fuses with the N on them either. I am thinking this board is fried.

Hi @ ngvuanh hope you're there!

Thanks in advance as following this thread I've been able to find and fix blown fuse at a Sony Vaio VPCSA3L9E laptop.

But my problems din't finish there, let me explain the hole picture:
I'm fixing this laptop for a friend. It had one or two lines crossing the screen up to down, I though it was a bad connexion as when twisting screen it tended to change, at times no lines other times some more. So unmounted screen panel an pressed plug, some times lines disappeared but unfortunately once the plug was off and plugging it back the screen turned black, but could notice some shadows.

I bought a new screen but this one, when plugged, was completely black, I asked for return but a guy at the store pointed the fuse as a possible cause. Now that fuse is bridged the old screen works but with much more lines and the new screen do not work.
I'll include links of both screens behaviour videos.
At this point I need some advice as I remember the guy at the store saying that by connecting the new screen to a blown fuse laptop I could have damaged it, my common sense says this is not possible as a blown fuse sends nothing, no signal nor electricity, to the screen. And the fact that the old screen still works confirm that point. But I look for a much more experienced opinion in order to negotiate a return screen if needed.

    Thanks a lot!!

Hello, and have a healthy new year!!

Please, I need your help!! I have a problem with a notebook monitor. From my experience to the post, I find it ideal to ask for your help.

Videos are shooted by cellphone camera.

From falling down laptop, screen is flickering in many many points. You can see in the following two videos (I did the best I could with the cellphone camera):

and an image as far as it concerns first video:

On the other side, when I connect laptop in an external monitor with VGA DIN-15 connector, screen resolution is centralized, and the image is totally clear. No flickers (following two videos):

The one that I do not know, and want to ask, is:if sb has a notebook, which has a damaged monitor, it indeed happens? I mean, if he connects notebook via VGA connector to an external monitor, the screen resolution on the damaged monitor is centralize and clear?
Below I quote the notebook monitor image when connected to the VGA monitor (green rectangle:full monitor screen - red rectangles are the lost surfice from left+right centering)

And another very important I should report:the flickers are made also in BIOS. There, no drivers are loaded.

    Notebook features

-Notebook Model:HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC
    -Product Number:E9L98EA#AB7
    -System Board ID:213B
-Processor Type:AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics
    -Processor Speed:1500MHz
    -AMD Radeon HD 8330

So, what is your opinion about all that? Monitor needs replacement?

    Thank you for your time!

Well, thank you for your answer. I also think that it's about LCD screen or the flat cable. But, since screen displays images perfect when notebook connected to exrernal VGA monitor, most possible is LCD cable. Because, if screen was damaged, wouldn't it have to show the same images in flickers when connected to external monitor? Of course this is just what logic says. Cannot prove this.
I know here is Sony section. Sorry for any confusion, but from your answers to the whole post, and being kind of desperate, I asked here.

no because when you use double connection (vga+lcd) the laptop change resolution/ratio/frequency on lcd (in fact the image is centralized...),
so is not the same state.... your lcd couldn't work in a particulary condition of resolution/ratio/frequency ..... idem for cable....

or simply the cable is not right connected or needs a thickness

This was my first thought and doing that is how I blown the fuse.
But the fact now is that old screen works, after I bridge the fuse, every time I plug it while the new one always gave problems.
My thought is that new screen is wrong either for my fault or because was sold faulty.

Is it possible to damage a screen by plugging it to a back light blown fuse laptop?

    I'm glad to hear that!

Screen part number is ok, the guy at the store choose it after I sent back lable picture.
Spare screen must be faulty. I talked with supplier and I have a new screen on the way.

I hope this new one will work.

Thanks a lot for your answers

    Edit. It works!!!

    Hi Guys,

I have been reading on this led no back light issue all day long, and seen that this is the only group that has some real knowledge on this topic that I had to join. I just purchased a Sony all-in-one model number: vpcl22dfx. its a core i3 2nd gen. processor, that has the same issue as many of others here. The screen does turn on but it is very dark. I put a flashlight to the screen and can see that it is telling me that there is no bootable device so the screen works.

I have tried all day long to find the proper fuse to no avail. I did find fuse,13,15,16,no 17, no 18 or 19 there. 20, 24 and several others. I have tested with a multi-meter and all seem to be working fine. I have not been able to find any N or H or A or any other hint of a fuse that could be causing this issue. I am fairly knowledgeable on computer repair, not to well versed on what all the numberings and letterings on the motherboard means, but working on it.

I am not able to attach pictures today of the board but will do so tomorrow. Was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge on any sony all in ones that may be able to give me some insight on this issue. Frankly any help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Hello,
    I found the dead F2 fuse labeled "N" on my DA0HK9MB6D0 Rev.D of a VAIO SVF152A29M
near the batteryconnector, in the servicemanual it's called VGA_VCCSENSE

and it's definetely blown, but does someone know how many mA would be an ideal replacement?

Hi guys back again. Sorry for the long delay in being able to post the pictures here are the motherboard pictures. This is a Sony mbx-245 touchscreen 24" all in one pc. I tested all the fuses i could find but any help would be mostly appreciated. Ive tried looking into the led driver also and it seems to receive 19v but also the output on some pins is also the same. is that supposed to be that way also the output voltage?

Sorry for the picture quality, its the only place i can upload to put on here for now, i am not sure how to just add the to the post directly.

You won't find F in this area because it is not lcd connector.

Your lcd needs to be replaced.
Make sure check led fuse first before install new lcd.
