Those Z11 prices may be with or without tax. -
Woa pretty cool , was about 2500 in France .
What is the real diff between a 13"3 and 13"1 ? Is it still like a 16:9 ? -
Actually the 13,3" screen at the SZ is 16:10. -
I hope its not a "square" screen , but 0.2" of diffrence might not be really important ...

What is the earliest you guys expect the new VAIO FW-models to be released? I really need a new notebook by half August, although I prefer having it somewhat earlier (e.g. by the end of July). Currently I am doubting whether to go with an FZ-model or to keep waiting for the new FWs...
I am living in the Netherlands, what's the chance I can get an FW here before my 'deadline'? What do you think would be the chance of getting an FW in the United States before half August? Thanks a lot for your insights! -
-
Can you guys show me the differences from the TZ250/270/298 to these new models TZ350/370/398?
The only thing that I see is what rahul said the biggest hd in the TZ398....Instead of 250 gb now is 320 gb. Nothing else???
Sony refresh the TZ for what?? Another dissapointment from Sony. From the first TZ1xx we went to the TZ2xx and Sony refresh the 1.2 ghz to 1.33ghz and the 32 GB SSD to 64 GB SSD. Nothing else....and now even less!
Something is wrong with the marketing of Sony. I know that Montevina ULV will be available in September but this is really too much. I will just grap a MSI Wind that has the same 945 chipset and cost 1/4. -
-
@Jack Sparrow,
You forgot the major update of the TZ. From 0.3 mp the camera is now 1.3. -
It's not really an update. They just bought a bunch of 320GB HD's and installed it in some remaining TZ's.

News on the FZ update: FW100 now listed on Sony support USA.

The only reason I am waiting is to see if they get HDSPA instead of EVDO
-
I hope they offer higher-end graphics cards this time! The 8400GS isn't good enough for a 15 inch notebook...
-
-
I don't think Nixon is allowed to tell us that, Sony really wants to keep everything as closed as possible until July.
I hope they do offer a higher resolution option like on the Lenovo X300. But as an option, I think most would still prefer the 1280x800 but some like me would like the higher res.
And good job noticing the new FW100 entry in Sony's support! -
Are you kiddin me ? Nixon knows and he doesnt want to tell us ?? Cmon man , we have been wiating for this for so long !!!
-
yes at least he could leak a few things about new models ... !!
-
Does he work for SONY ? Let's kidnap him !!!
-
:O ZOMGGGG!!!!
2 DIFFERENT 13" MODELS!!! :'(
I want them both..... But lets see their design and battery life first ^^; -
I am more in the mood for smaller units: 11,1 inches screen --- or even smaller: 8,9 inches. TZ and/or something new?
-
It seems strange two model of 13''3 competing each other...Also the specs are very similar.
Nixon only one thing: The TZ, when the Montevina appears, will be refreshed with it or Sony will design a hole new model? -
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Sony is manufacturing the VIA Openbook, which is an 8.9" mini notebook that uses the Via C7 processor. -
-
- they are not really competing with each other because SR is cheaper than the Z11.
- the Z11 is 13,1" in 16:9, the SR is 13,3" i guess in 16:10
And who knows what other differences there will be in design. Exciting! -
Sony will probably overprice the new models just for the brand name...
-
I just cannot believe they would simply use Via's design instead of making their own design. Sony has experience in making ultraportables. They do not need anyone's help.
I hope they make a 8.9" notebook, but make their own design and hopefully use Intel, not even the Atom processor. Make a smaller version of the TZ without the DVD drive and its instant buy for me!
I also think they will replace the TZ with a new model in their "Type T" series. The previous Vaio TR and T lasted a year before being replaced and the TX lasted for a little over 1.5 years. When the Montevina ULV processors come out in September, the TZ would be out for over a year.
So I think by the Fall, we'll see the TZ replaced by a whole new model. -
Knowing Sony, they will probably stick to using Intel processors in their notebooks.
-
16.4" ? Wtf, that has to be a mistake. They can't phase out the 15.4", because that's the norm and perfect model. Anything more is too big (16.4 is way to close to 17, which is a giant!).
-
-
The 16,4" is in 16:9, so it's a wider version of 15,4". -
So then I'm wondering how the Z11 will be more expensive, assuming that the SR is a redesign of the already high-end SZ. If it has a DVD drive as well, then what's going to differentiate the model (other than screen ratio)?
OLED, Blu-ray... none of these seem likely. And if they hang on to the CR series, then SR is unlikely to be a lower end replacement for the SZ, there's no room for three 13" models all with optical drives... Someone throw me a bone!
Maybe the Z11 has a DVD on a portable docking station, like that old 505 model, and sports SSD, -
-
And like you said maybe the higher resolution.
-
Well, anyway, time will tell - and I agree with you that a 13.1" version of the TZ would be a dream!!! -
Phil, you're as close as anyone has been so far on the Z and SR series.
-
-
.. Cool.

Looks like PCNation.com had an American Vaio FW model listed before removing it.
Here's the cached page.

Nice find Rahul.
FW139EH P8400 2.26G 3GB 250GB DVDRW 16.4-XBRT
American price $ 1082
European price € 1105 -
Good job at keeping us updated. I hope they'll offer some more high-end options for CPU and GPU. The pricing seems rather reasonable.
-
Aside from the American FW139E/H which will be grey in color, I also see a FW139N/W listed with the same specs that will be white in color.
On Google, search for FW139EH and FW139NW and you'll see several retailers that listed them and removed them. You can still find them on some sites through Google cache. -
You guys are incredible...In a little you will know before the specs than Sony...
Seems like FW is going to be the first model to appear. In a few days we will have the first pics. From what I understood only FW is going to have a blu-ray drive? I don't see BD option at the SR or the Z series.
Phil you say that the TZ has a small screen to work with and you ordered a MSI Wind that is smaller?? -
But you know, maybe I'll be turned off by the size aswell and sell it. Like I usually do -
-
Sony will definitely implement blu-ray drives into their ultra-portable models.
Nixon, you wouldn't happen to know if Sony will be offering any high-end graphics options (to go along with the blu-ray drive)?

When you visit this site and click "Click to Verify Stock and Price" it gives you a date of 7/16/2008. Coincidence?
