Wow, great find!!! Rep for you! :)

Yes the BZ series is replacing the BX series.

On that recycling page, I found several new Z and SR models as well. But no BZ models.

Funny how the recycling page is giving the fees to recycle models which haven't even been released yet. :D

Hmm, would it be possible to purchase a BZ-model as a consumer? Or can only companies get them for their employees?

How do you think the BZ compares to the FW? Will the 16,4 inch FW be considerably larger and more heavy than a 15,4 inch BZ? I actually wanted to buy an FZ, then started waiting for the FW, but now I'm worried 16,4 inch might just be too big...

Is Sony going to release a laptop that is around 13.3 inch in the 700-800 price range? I'm particularly interested in this VAIO SR model. I'm thinking about getting:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8782089&type=product&id=1204924952362 or http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...#0##o~~ncabcat0502004##0##k&_requestid=355662

The HP is nice but it might be a little heavy to be portable and its a lot cheaper than the Toshiba which is just right.
The thing is I'm trying to get a laptop before July 10 when I fly out of the country.

    Thanks!

    Yeah,

I'm very interested too in the 3G. Is important the HSDPA for an ultraportable, the SZ had it so I think also the Z and SR will have this option.

I couldn't agree more. Even If am waiting for a Montevina TZ, if the Z series has nice design, HSDPA, keyboard of the TZ, LED screen, and hopefully SSD I will pull the trigger on this. I can't wait any more...At least these models that we are discussing here in August will be available, who know when we will see a Montevina TZ.

Since Toshiba has a 1.8" 128gb SSD in their R500 laptop right now, its safe to say Sony will do the same to match. I think they'll have a 64 and 128gb option in the next Vaio T. :)

I hope they have larger SSD options in their other laptops as well though. I'll bet the 13" Z series will have it too.

I don't think they'd put a 128gb SSD in their new T series, unless it can actually FIT a 2.5" drive without sacrificing the dvd drive

Besydes, on the much cheaper side, you can find a 120gb ssd by supertalent i think it was? for only like, $700; slower than most high-end ssd's, but for a price of $700 and speeds of like, 35-45mb/s you can't really ask for much more (if you're looking to save abit of money that is)

And they probably won't add a megapixel cam if it has an LED backlight screen =/ makes it "too thick", which i find to be pure bs, since cellfone cams are insanely thin at 2mp (i've taken apart some cells before, the camera module is only approx 3mm for most? though some go to 5mm)

Probably not considering the highest end FZ model, FZ485U/B with close specs is $2200 from Sony.

    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665291458

So I'm sure this replacement FW model will be around the same price. :)

So let me get this all straight:

SR replaces SZ. Z series is a new line, made to compete with the MBA/X300/Envy, has a 13" screen and such. FW replaces FZ, BZ replaces BX or whatever it is now.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Who calls TR to replace TZ? Bring back the cute white laptop with the swiveling camera! :p It'll probably be TW or something though.

I hope it is. Usually, when you start customizing your notebook on the Sony website, they automatically charge an extra $100/$200. Same thing with HP's business line notebooks.
It also seems that the components are highly overpriced. When customizing a Sony notebook, and choosing some of the higher-end options, the price soars, literally. Compared to other notebooks with the same configurations, the Sony is overpriced by $300-400 bucks and it only offers a 8400GS! You can easily get a notebook with a 8800GTX for the same money! I understand it's Sony, and you pay a premium for the Sony brand name, but is it necessary to overpay so much? Wouldn't Sony be losing out on a lot of customers? Unless you have the extra money to pay...
Nevertheless, I appreciate the quality of Sony's products and the excellent customer service though. ;) Maybe the extra money is worth it afterall. Just a thought...

I take back what I said. It seems that this notebook is an older version. Just look at the specifications:
    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 1.70GHz*1
    — Supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology
    Chipset
    Intel® 855PM Chipset
    Processor System Bus
    400MHz
    Memory Bus
    266MHz
    Cache Memory
    L1 Cache: 64KB L2 Cache: 1MB (on CPU)
    Main Memory
512MB DDR SDRAM (512MB on board, upgradeable up to 1GB),
    1 SO-DIMM slot
    Hard Disk
    60GB (C: 15GB, D: 45GB) Ultra ATA/100
    Graphics Accelerator
Dual display compatible • 3D graphics acceleration compatible • ATI Technologies Inc. MOBILITY™ RADEON™
    Video Memory
    16MB
    Display
    14.1" SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) TFT colour display

The specifications are laughable at this present time.

So it looks like it was only a false alarm. :(

Promoting this kind of feature is so 90's :

The VAIO Z comes with a convenient hardware On/Off switch for fast and easy access to its wireless functions

another hint that it was old: the first vaio notebook to feature a dvd-rw drive... o.o
Also i thought something was strange, I saw that design ove ra year ago, i just didn't actually see anyone with it...

Oh well, COMON SONY! bring a 13.3" with LED, 8 or 9 series GT (or gs if it's something like 8800), backlit keyboard, and that awesome battery life! =D *crosses fingers* here's hoping :)

We know quite a lot already about the new Z series, in case you guys missed it:
    VAIO VGN-Z11MN / P8400 4GB 200GB 13.1" WVB 1766.39€ (same in US$)
    VAIO VGN-Z11WN / P8600 4GB 250GB 13.1" WVB 2276.71€

    Sony VAIO VGN-SR Serie
    VAIO VGN-SR11M / P8400 3GB 250GB 13.3¨ VHP 1232.53€
    VAIO VGN-SR19XN / P8400 3GB 160GB 13.3¨ WVB 1232.53€
    VAIO VGN-SR19VN / P8400 4GB 200GB 13.3¨ WVB 1422.87€

This is what I speculated and what is confirmed as quite accurate: The SR is a consumer 13,3". Possibly with a more 'trendy design'. Competing with Dell 1330. The Z11 is a more business oriented laptop, a bigger version of the TZ. It will be lighter than SR and have offer higher resolution.

PhilFlow, are you certain the Z series will offer a higher resolution 13" screen like in the Lenovo X300 with its 1440x900 vs 1280x800 in all other 13" panels?

These new models are going to be announced any day now, arggh, the wait is too much! And the ultraportable models are even farther away! :( :(

No i am not certain, but Nixon said earlier on in this thread that my guesses where as close as could be.

Since the Z11 has a 13,1" screen it could be 16:9 in 1366*768. (again speculation but that's all we can do for now). Although for a business laptop it seems more logical that it's 1280*800.

There are probably not many 13,1" screens out there so maybe someone could find this out?

Do you think the Japanese models are better quality?
They come with 3 years warranty too :)

I am thinking maybe to get one custom build there and shipped over here from http://conics.net/

Remember that the 3 year warranty applies only in Japan. So you would have to ship it back to Sony Japan for repair and I'm not sure if they deal with foreign customers, is there a language barrier? I guess you'd have to deal with Conics or any other Japanese importer as the middleman.

I think you can purchase a 1 year international warranty for a Japanese Vaio.

So far differences I see between the SR and Z are:

    • SR might be thicker
    • No mention of either using Bluetooth 2.1 or Intel's SSD drives.
    • optical drive buttons in different places
    • Z has no media buttons
    • Z has the motion eye indicator in a different place
    • SD Card/Memory stick slots are in different positions on each notebook
    • SR has no stamina/speed buttons????? Means no dedicated gpu???

That's what it looks like from the manual. One model has integrated graphics. The other has an ATI card. (no specs listed) That similar to how the CR series was marketed here. I'm pretty sure Blu-ray video (drive probably only available with the ATI model) will be downsampled to 720p. (need to confirm that)

The Z on the other hand has a Nvidia card (again, no specs mentioned) and can switch modes ala the SZ. It also has HDCP. That with the HDMI port helps eliminate some of the current Nvidia chipsets on the market.

The new models do appear a bit chunky next to the current SZ:

I *love* the keyboard choice in both of the newer models!

Thanks for the comparison picture iisdev!!

I disliked the SZ compared to its predecessor the S for being taller and having a bigger footprint. I like that the Z is going back to the S with it being smaller and shorter, taking up less room and looking more compact. :)

I don't like the placement of the microphone and headphone jacks on the SZ and SR being at the rear of the machine though. Maybe good for connecting external speakers but I don't think so for headphones.

Although the SR100 series doesn't explicitly mention a HDMI port in the manual there *appears* to be a spot in the casing (left side between VGA & iLink) meant to accommodate one. (maybe a SR2xx or SR3xx?)

Yes, I noticed that earlier, looks like one is supposed to be there. I don't know why they would wait until the 200 or 300 series to implement it.

I hope will put it in the higher end initial SR1XX models at least.
